How Credit Gurus are killing and exploiting black and brown entrepreneurs

How Credit Gurus are killing and exploiting black and brown entrepreneurs

In episode 5 of Earned Interest podcast, the business school for the Culture, Pedro and Dion discuss How Credit Gurus are killing and exploiting black and brown entrepreneurs, teaching them to go into more debt vs. growing their business.

The business credit industry has exploded recently, with numerous credit gurus and experts offering courses and coaching to help entrepreneurs obtain business credit. However, many people don’t realize that some credit gurus exploit and kill black and brown entrepreneurs by teaching them to go into debt instead of growing their businesses.

We'll discuss the recent news about celebrity Gwyneth Paltrow facing $300k lawsuit over ski collision, questioning whether suiting someone is worth it or not.

In our take or leave segment, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch reportedly turned down multiple offers of over $2 billion to buy Tubi even with the streaming service hit record users and ad revenue.  Was that a good idea or not?

How to get a celebrity on your cap table

How to get a celebrity on your cap table

Welcome to episode 4 of our podcast, where we dive into the world of startup investments and the latest news in the business world. In this episode, we explore "How to get a celebrity on your cap table" and discuss the advantages and challenges of having a high-profile individual as an investor in your startup.

But before we dive into our main topic, we'll start with some recent news that has caught our attention. We'll discuss the recent lawsuit against Buffalo Wild Wings for falsely advertising their boneless wings as real chicken wings. We'll examine the implications of this lawsuit for businesses that prioritize marketing over transparency.

After that, in our "Take it or Leave it" section, we'll discuss Angel Reese, a WNBA player who has made a lot of money. We'll explore whether this is a good time to buy a WNBA basketball team and whether it's a smart investment move that could potentially yield more significant returns in the future.

Finally, we'll dive into our main topic and discuss how to attract celebrities to invest in your startup. We'll examine the benefits and challenges of having a celebrity investor and provide insights into how startups can successfully partner with high-profile individuals. We'll discuss the different ways to approach celebrities and offer tips on building lasting relationships with them.  This topic was inspired by a TikTok clip from Earned Your Leisure podcast, the founder of Actively Black, Lanny Smith complained about the challenge of getting celebrity endorsement or having to pay $100K for a promotion for his business. Still, those same celebrities would wear other big brands without getting any compensation.

Join us for this exciting episode as we discuss everything you need to know about getting a celebrity on your cap table.

The Black Dollar - Ownership Problem, Not a Spending Problem

The Black Dollar - Ownership Problem, Not a Spending Problem

In this episode 3, Pedro and Dion explore the concept of group economics and the importance of circulating the black dollar within our community. Our hosts discuss how the lack of ownership in businesses within the black community is the main reason why the dollar circulars one time despite having a 1 trillion dollar spending power compared to other communities.

We share insights on overcoming these obstacles and creating more black and brown entrepreneurship opportunities.

We also talk about Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds earning $300M by selling his company for $1.3B.

Investing in startups and small businesses 101

Investing in startups and small businesses 101

n recent years, private equity and venture capital have become increasingly popular ways to invest and build wealth. Unlike public companies, which are traded on stock exchanges and have to comply with a variety of regulations, private companies are not subject to the same level of scrutiny. This makes them a potentially more risky investment, but also one that can offer significantly higher returns.

Before investing in a private company, it's important to learn the basics of how these businesses work.

Here are the things you will learn:

  1. Overview of Angel Investing or investing in privately held companies
  2. Deal flow sourcing, deal selection, and preliminary due diligence
  3. Managing/Monitoring the deal; Wealth creation and Exit

Bad advice that sounds good - Listening to Elon Musk Tweets vs his actions

Bad advice that sounds good - Listening to Elon Musk Tweets vs his actions

Due to the price of Dogecoin and Bitcoin fluctuating based on Elon Musk's tweets, there have been individuals who made their financial decisions based on Elon Musk's tweets, which is bad.  After Elon said Telsa would not accept Bitcoin, the value of Bitcoin dropped dramatically.  I have seen individual posts/memes about how they invested their life savings in Bitcoin due to Elon Musk's influence.

This prompted me to share this message about bad advice that sounds good.  We all want to be rich, but we try to find the fastest and easiest path. The same individuals believe crypto will be their golden ticket because of Elon Musk, but we forget how he made his fortune and what his first investment was.  Check out this post to learn what that is.
