Musings

Hey guys. It's great to be back in the patio studio. We cut a fast 1.5 hour podcast last night but we covered a lot of ground from Biden's loan "forgiveness", vaccination regret in light of new myocarditis studies, 6 month war mark in Ukraine and America's place in world conflict, and the continued rise of Ron "DeSavage" out of Florida. As always, thanks for listening.

Hey everyone, don't let the title mislead you. We (special guest Dr. Francesc Morales of University of Alabama) cover a lot more than the Roe v Wade leak and the underpinnings of the abortion debate. We also talk about the latest developments in Ukraine, ibonds reaching 9.62%, Amber Heard/Johnny Depp circus trial, Governor Desantis vs Disney of Parental Rights Education Act, House Bill 7 and its effects in academia so much more! Thanks for listening.

The War in and out of Ukraine

The War in and out of Ukraine

In this episode, Andrew and I with the help of special guest Dr. Francesc Morales, professor at University of Alabama, unpack what is going on inside and outside of Ukraine. Competing visions of American power and responsibility inform much of the discussion and debate as Andrew and I consider each other's point of view and develop our own in real time. Francesc brings invaluable historical analysis and his Ph'D take on the concept of Translatio Imperii as a means of understanding Putin's otherwise irrational behavior as form of conserving nationalism in a declining power. When we talk about the marketplace of ideas, discussions like this come to mind. Thanks for listening.

Episode 16 - Vaccine Politics

Episode 16 - Vaccine Politics

For those of you who complain that our podcast is just 2 hours of libertarians dunking disproportionately on the Left while high-fiving one another, this is the episode for you. Andrew and I spar for the better part 2 hours over the politics of vaccines from mandatory vs voluntary, competing libertarian principles of pollution externalities vs body integrity, individual freedom vs collective responsibility etc We also tackle some international news from the BBC highlights of the day from Trump's death penalty/blanket pardon schemes to France's new anti-radicalism laws. Enjoy and as always, thanks for listening.

On my way back in Iceland, I laid over in Boston for a couple nights and was invited to be on The Movie Loft Podcast. If you're ever in Danvers, Massachusetts and want to see the best podcast physical set on the East Coast, I highly recommend it. Tom and Phil are great conversationalists and have a full bar. Taking a break from their normal content of Film Analysis, on this episode we discuss the upcoming American election with emphasis on the candidates themselves and how people translate their values and experiences into votes, particularly when not a partisan. We also get into personal political evolution as well as the on going Covid-crisis. Thanks for listening!

04-04-19 The Best Guest We've Ever Had

04-04-19 The Best Guest We've Ever Had

This episode, we host the best, by any objective standard, guest we've ever had (irrespective of it being our first and only guest). Our friend Adrian Flynn, a self-avowed Leftist, stops by to smash the orthodoxy of the podcast. It probably doesn't need to be said, but there were plenty of passionate disagreements. We find common ground in some expected areas as well as some unexpected areas. This description would be unconscionably long if we tried to summarize all of the topics we touched on here, so you'll just have to give it a listen. We're certainly going to have Adrian back, because, as you'll hear, we have plenty more to discuss.
