There was a lot going on in Japan post-WWII. A lot. With most people trying to scrape together enough money just to have a meal, any extra mouths to feed were an actual death sentence. On June 16, 1944 (76 years ago, today) George Stinney Jr was executed for a crime he did not commit. At the age of 14, he became the youngest person to be executed in the United States. It took 4 minutes for the murder (I said it) to be completed. He was too small for the electric chair so he was forced to sit on top of the Bible that he was carrying to the chamber. A literal Bible booster seat. From the time of his arrest to the time of his death, he couldn’t stop asking “Why? Why would they kill me for something I didn’t do?” From start to finish, it was 83 days. His trial was only 3 hours long. The jury consisted of 10 men, all white. On November 16, 1995, Linda Sobek left Hermosa Beach, heading for a stretch of isolated mountainous land just outside of Los Angeles. She was meeting with up-and-coming photographer, Charles RathBUN (bloopers 🤦🏼‍♀️) The two had worked together recently, so this wasn’t even a second thought for Linda. As Linda’s luck would have it, this would be her last photoshoot, alive anyway. #sendacardtoafriendday is February 7th and, this year, it’s in memory of Linda Sobek.
