Ruth 1.6-19b - Tough Love
**This episode was recorded on April 22, 2020.** While the Bee Gees might ask "How Deep Is Your Love?", Ruth 1.6-19b is going to force us to ask ourselves, "How tough is your love?"  Tragically, the real answer to that question is probably not as positive as we would want it to be.  That said, however, if we can shift our gaze away from ourselves toward our Lord Jesus Christ, and if we can ask, "How tough is his love?", we are going to be tremendously encouraged!  Listen in as I unpack how Ruth's tough, covenant love for Naomi mirrors the love Jesus has for his church!

Ruth 1.1-7 - The Sky Is Falling
Do you ever feel like the sky is falling down on you?  Where do you turn in the midst of disaster?  If you're like Elimelech and Naomi, your first go-to is to come up with a strategy to fix your own problems.  In this story, the Lord graciously allowed those plans to fail.  Though we often get distracted and place our hope in the things of this world (even good things!), God himself is the only object worthy of our hope because he will never fail to give us what we truly need--in this life and the next! Missions (with Brent Rich)
It's hard enough to stay caught up with what's going on here in our community these days, but what is going on in the lives of our Wellspring EFC global missions partners?  Make sure to listen in as fellow bearded Gospel-man Brent Rich joins me today to talk about his own experience of missions work, how the Lord captured his heart to reach people all around the world with the Gospel, and about the other global missions works that Wellspring is partnering with! The 5 Solas: Sola Scriptura, part 2
In this episode, I pick up where I left off in part 1 of Sola Scriptura.  I discuss two more doctrinal implications of Sola Scriptura: the necessity of Scripture and the sufficiency of Scripture.  Is there more than one road to heaven?  Do I need to know Jesus personally in order to be saved?  Does Scripture tell me everything I need to know in order to be saved and live a godly life? Also, we get a brief look into our theological roots during the Reformation as I discuss a brief overview of Martin Luther's famous stand on what would later be called Sola Scriptura.  Make sure to listen in!

Ruth 1.1a - Where Is God?
As we begin a new series, studying the Book of Ruth, we are reminded that we are not the first people to be overwhelmed by massive societal struggles and difficulties.  The temptations and spiritual battles faced by these ancient Israelites are really not all that different from those faced by our souls today.  This short, Old Testament book will serve as a wonderful encouragement to the complexities of life we are encountering now because it provides hope in the sovereign Providence of God.  Ruth will direct us to Jesus and his Gospel, which is our only hope in life and death. Stewardship During a Pandemic (w/Neil Smith)
One subject that is commonly difficult for Christians to talk about is the subject of stewardship of our resources.  A pandemic such as the one we are currently facing has had a devastating effect on our economy, and we may only be beginning to feel the effects of that.  As a result, giving of our resources to the work of the Lord has become complicated by a number of new, unexpected factors.  Listen in as Pastor Clint talks with Neil Smith, Wellspring EFC's current financial secretary, thinking together through what all of this means for us as individuals and for our collective work together as a church. The 5 Solas: Sola Scriptura, part 1
The 5 Solas of the Reformation (Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solus Christus, and Soli Deo Gloria) are the very heart of the Gospel.  The Reformers recovered these doctrines as they read Scripture, and these doctrines acted as theological distinctives which set them apart from Roman Catholicism.  Because they are so integrally related to the Gospel, they remain incredibly relevant for the Christian life and for the ministry of the church today. In this episode, I begin to unpack the first of the 5 Solas, the Doctrine of Sola Scriptura.  This doctrine teaches us that "Scripture alone" is the final authority for the Christian life and ministry.  Check it out right here!

Romans 3.21-26 - Christ As Propitiation (Easter)
The Gospel stands or falls on the Doctrine of Propitiation.  What is "propitiation"?  It's the doctrine that teaches us that God's wrath against humanity for our sin has been quenched for those who are in Jesus Christ because of his sacrifice on our behalf.  Sin always results in death, whether the eternal death of those not in Christ or for Christians in Christ's atoning death on the cross.  And, what is the proof that God has accepted this sacrifice?  Easter!  The resurrection!  Jesus Christ has died and been raised again so that we can be saved!  Praise God for this wonderful truth today! Wellspring Teenagers Think through the Coronavirus
Have you (grown-ups) wondered at all what this coronavirus has meant for teenagers in our community?  In this episode, Wellspring's very own Annika Rynders and Cooper Reid join Clint to discuss how COVID-19 has affected their teenage lives.  More importantly, we get their definitive answer to who the "cooler" youth group leader is: David or Stephanie Jacobs.  Make sure to check it out.

The Spanish Flu and Francis Grimke (with Jon Rees)
Where can we go to get help about how to think through a pandemic?  How about to a 102-year-old sermon from right after the 1918 Spanish flu?  Francis Grimke, a pastor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries preached a surprisingly-crazy-relevant sermon relating to his observations of how he processed through the Spanish Flu epidemic when it hit Washington D.C.  Pastor Jon Rees (of Faith Baptist Church in Washington, IA) joins Clint to discuss this message and what we can learn from it in the midst of our current times. If you'd like to read the sermon for yourself, you can find it by clicking the link below: Francis Grimke - "Some Reflections Growing out of the Recent Epidemic of Influenza That Afflicted Our City"

1 Peter 5.1-14 - Humble Yourself and Be Exalted
In this episode, you will hear the conclusion to the 1 Peter sermon series Pastor Clint began in January.  This final chapter contains a word for elders (and youngers!), as well as one final plea for humility before God.  This final chapter helps us to preserve the balance the Lord gives us between the commands we're meant to obey and the grace we've been given to obey them.  Peter wants to encourage Christians, even as they are "dispersed"--a very relevant word for our Coronavirus-caused dispersion today. This Evangelistic Moment (with Mike Owens)
The church in America is finding Gospel ministry to be a challenging in this somewhat unique time.  Mike Owens, the leader of the Evangelism Team at Wellspring EFC, joins Clint today to discuss the Gospel and how to think about Gospel-driven ministry to the lost around us, especially when they are, by necessity, much further away from us and yet also perhaps a bit closer to us than normal.

Jesus, the True and Better Bronze Serpent (John 3.13-15; Numbers 21.1-9)
Many have died and others will continue to contract the coronavirus and die.  That begs a question that Clint is back to answer: "How can the coronavirus coexist with the love of God?"  Jesus is well aware of the natural fear of death humans experience and points to himself as the LIFE which answers that question of death.  He does that using a semi-obscure text in the Old Testament.  Check it out.

1 Peter 4.12-19 - Don't Waste Your Suffering
Text: 1 Peter 4.12-19 Is it worth it to do “good” like Peter commands Christians to do in 1 Peter 4.19?  Don’t good guys always finish last?  Is Billy Joel right when he says, “Only the good die young”?  Being “good” in the Christian sense will result in suffering, according to Peter.  How will your soul handle that difficult but blessed truth?  Join us on Sunday as we discover together how the Spirit of God would guide us to prepare ourselves to follow Christ through whatever fiery trial may come! Pandemic Pandemonium and Psalm 2
For all the world's massive might, it has been brought very low by a tiny virus.  In the same way, every man, woman, or child who has ever lived will one day have to reckon with someone who was born in a nowhere town to a nobody carpenter's family, and who was killed in a shameful, demeaning way.  There is an important irony here for us to consider!  Psalm 2 puts this irony on display and encourages us to trust in Almighty God who always brings his purposes to pass, thwarting the vain efforts of the nations.

The Cure for Sin
Far more dangerous than the Coronavirus (aka, Covid-19) is the disease of sin.  God's Word in Isaiah 52.13-53.12 details the only cure available for sin-sick souls, namely, The Gospel.
