Event PROMO: The "Philosophy in PhD" PodiNar series - Part II
Event PROMO! Event PROMO! Event PROMO! The Green Living Chats podcast presents the "Philosophy in PhD" PodiNar series.  In this second program of the podinar series, we hope to achieve two main objectives: Discuss the value of learning to summarize big ideas: According to Arckam's razor, Truth Is Simple. Therefore, the ability of any graduate student to present their opinions or findings in concise and coherent words reflects how well they have thought about them and understand them. Here we discuss the 3minutes thesis module. Developing interdisciplinary research collaborations: Ideas do not reside in one mind or field. Therefore, to adequately tackle problems in society, reasons must come together. But what is the value of this? What does it look like? Attendees will benefit from developing a 3-mins thesis presentation and cultivating interdisciplinary research collaborations. All graduate students are invited. Find more details about registration here: https://glcpodcast.ecoametsolutions.com/. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-philosophy-in-phd-registration-243953500487.  For enquiries, reach us at glcpodcast@ecoametsolutions.com.

The 4th Ghana Green Building Summit 2021
The 4th Ghana Green Building Summit 2021
The Annual Ghana Green Building Summit (GGBS) was created in 2017 to evaluate Ghana’s Green Building needs and tailor the local design, finance, and policy solutions. In the past three editions, prior speakers have included ministers of state, policymakers, international development agencies, industry experts and professional associations.  Having had the opportunity to discuss materials and design extensively in past year summits, this year we are highlighting how efficient operational management of a building’s life cycle can contribute immensely to increased comfort, financial savings and reduction in carbon emissions. This inspired the 2021 theme: Re-thinking Operations Management for High-Performance Buildings. Some confirmed speakers for the Summit are the Minister of Works and Housing, Ghana; Minister of Energy, Ghana; Mayor of Accra; Industry experts from Denmark, Nigeria, South Africa and the UK will present at the Summit. BiogasUnite - join our aid-free initiative for entrepreneurs in Africa | (B)energy
Biogas entrepreneurs in Africa join forces to demand better working conditions and regulate foreign aid involvement. #BiogasUnite is an initiative of local and international companies and entrepreneurs to improve the conditions for all in the biogas sector. Up to now, the biogas sector has been primarily driven by donor-funded projects and programs without creating a sustainable, fair and functioning biogas market anywhere. As a result, not only has market development largely failed, but markets are distorted, and the reputation of biogas as clean cooking fuel has been destroyed. As entrepreneurs, we are interested in working in reliable and protected environments, solid and competitive markets with equal conditions for all players and clear rules regarding technology and service quality to assure a good reputation of biogas among customers, partners and investors. In this podcast, we present the reasons and aims of #BiogasUnite. Katrin Pütz As an agricultural engineer, environmental scientist and cabinet maker, Katrin developed the concept and technology for mobile biogas between 2010 and 2013. Since 2013 Katrin has been (B)energy's head & heart. Let's talk about "RECYCLING" | Nicole Baker Loke
Nicole Baker Loke joined me in the podcast to discuss the role of effective recycling in a circular economy and the loopholes we need to consider in sustainable economic growth.  Nicole Baker Loke is a former North Pacific groundfish fisheries observer (2010-2015) and Net Your Problem LLC founder.  Net Your Problem collects fishing gear from fishers and sends it to recyclers who turn it into the raw material needed to manufacture plastic products.  Net Your Problem has been actively establishing programs to dispose of waste in remote fishing communities since 2017 and currently operates in Alaska, Maine and California.  Projects are in development for other ports on all the US coasts.  Over 971,000 lbs of fishing gear have been recycled so far from individual fishing vessels and by partnering with Native Tribes and community groups. Nicole has given presentations for many different audiences, including at industry meetings, inter-governmental meetings (the Arctic Council), waste management practitioners, and entire communities and other entrepreneurs. In April 2020, Net Your Problem completed a Maritime Accelerator program and pitched it to a virtual audience of 250 maritime professionals and investors. In 2021, Net Your Problem was selected to participate in the Alliance to End Plastic Waste Accelerator Program. Nicole currently serves as the co-chair of the Cordage Institute Life Cycle Management Committee, is a member of the IMAREST Plastics Special Interest Group and the Global Industry Alliance of the FAO~IMO GloLitter project. Nicole also received the Alaska SeaLife Center Ocean Leadership award for Sustainability in 2021 and is a finalist in the Rare Solution Search competition for solutions to plastic pollution that rely on behaviour change. Solutions to toxic algae blooms in freshwater bodies | Eyal Harel
Eyal Harel joined me on the podcast to discuss BlueGreen Water Technologies' solution to cyanobacterial toxic blooms in freshwater bodies (aka “blue-green algae”). We talked about his life experiences and how he came up with this solution together with his team. We also discussed the application of their technology as well as the research and certification that has gone into securing the safety of this solution to human health and environmental protection.  BlueGreen Water Technologies is a leading global WaterTech company that provides innovative, scalable solutions to toxic algae bloom for all bodies of water, irrespective of size or shape with guaranteed results. Water is the source of life. It is a precondition for a healthy environment. It is a human right. Triggered by lower water levels, pollution and global warming, toxic algal blooms pose a serious threat, turning half of the world’s lakes and oceans into ‘dead aquatic zones’, hostile to other living beings. (B)energy: Don’t donate for biogas, but make it your business | Katrin Pütz
Katrin Pütz joined me on the podcast to discuss her amazing sustainable cooking energy solutions with (B)energy. We talked about the problem or loopholes in the cooking-energy industries and the solutions (B)energy brings on board. Katrin is very passionate about what she does and I encourage you to listen and share this episode. Katrin's aim with (B)energy is to make biogas in the global South independent of development aid. This became possible with the biogas backpack that I developed at Hohenheim University, Germany in 2010 for this purpose: making biogas profitable. After 3 years of research and piloting in collaboration with Addis Abeba University, Ethiopia complete mobile biogas set in combination with a business concept was ready for implementation. She started (B)energy in 2014 to make the results available to the market. Today, (B)energy is a social business that does more than biogas technology. They are a growing network of international partners, who work on creating the market for biogas as business, try to change mentalities in terms of aid dependency and new economy and are advocates for the "economy for the common good" - movement. Can the packaging industry be sustainable? | Jan Kaprhál
This is a bonus chat with Jan Kaprhál joined Michael Rada on the Green Living Chats podcast. We had an interesting discussion on how we can improve recycling and upcycling in the packaging industry.  This is part of our new segment, the Industry 5.0 segment, where we have discussions with industrial players to brainstorm and share ideas on how to prevent waste generation, promote and support sustainable production. In this episode we talked about what recycling really means, the role of the industry, consumers/client and the government in enhancing recycling as well as alternatives the industry can adopt from the Smurfit Kappa model. Jan is the Innovation & Marketing Manager CZ/SK of Smurfit Kappa. Smurfit Kappa is an FTSE 100 company and one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging in the world, with operations in 23 European countries and 12 countries in the Americas.
