Has Social Media Changed the Way We Think? with Ayman Hariri, Co-Founder & CEO of Vero

Has Social Media Changed the Way We Think? with Ayman Hariri, Co-Founder & CEO of Vero

In this episode of DAO Talks, Tim is joined by Ayman Hariri, the Co-Founder and CEO of Vero. Launched in 2015, Vero is a social media platform that markets itself as an ad-free and algorithm-free social media network. It operates on responsible technology principles and focuses on helping people connect without employing the techniques known to promote addiction. Ayman believes that “free” social apps come at a cost, risking users’ personal data and privacy. Ayman has taken a unique approach to creating a social media network and he is exploring integrating Web3 into Vero.

Ayman is also the son of the late Rafik Hariri, Lebanon’s former prime minister in 2005, and he invests in startups through New York-based firm Red Sea Ventures.

Together, they discuss why Vero was made to combat the addictiveness of other social media platforms, why people act differently online compared to how they do in real life, and why we, as a species, are inherently drawn to sharing, collaborating, and helping each other. The problem, then, surely, is that most social networks have changed our behavior and turned us more against each other than we really should be - how do we fix that?

Within a year, Planet IX has become the biggest game on Polygon by transaction. The game has close to 54,000 weekly active wallets. The NFT-based strategy game is part of a sci-fi metaverse and an ecosystem with over 400 million NFTs sold. Plus, in recent months, the team has announced partnerships with Chainlink, BraveWallet, Arcade NFTs, 1Inch, One Tree Planted, Superfluid and more.

Previously, Karl had a long career as an investment banker, focusing exclusively on the technology industry. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of GP Bullhound, and a consultant at Prokura.

Together, Tim and Karl delve into the NFT based-game Planet IX, what it's all about and what makes it so unique in comparison to its competitors. They discuss why Nibiru chose Polygon as a side-chain to the Ethereum network; and how Web3 is growing and developing the future of gaming.

Finally, they get on to talking through the process of building a community in the NFT gaming world. As well as how it can be a challenging process, especially when the initial players are still coming from the Web2 space.

Is the Metaverse Dead? with Hrish Lotlikar, Co-Founder and CEO of SuperWorld

In this episode, Tim is joined by one of the most influential people in the Metaverse, Hrish Lotlikar, to discuss how technology is bringing together our physical and virtual lives. Hirsh is the Co-founder and CEO of SuperWorld, an augmented reality virtual platform that allows users and brands to create, discover and monetize content.

Previously, Hrish co-founded Rogue Initiative Studios, a Hollywood film, TV, gaming, and immersive entertainment studio. He is also the founding Managing Partner of Eastlabs, an early-stage VC fund based in Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2017, Hrish met with Max Woon in Santa Monica after being fascinated with Pokemon GO and its popularity. They realized that they could design a similar, virtually mapped world that appealed to an even wider audience, one where users could monetise and create their own assets. This idea soon came to be known as SuperWorld.

During the course of their conversation, Tim and Hrish discuss the state of the metaverse, how to monetize virtual real estate, and how we will soon be able to discover immersive events through virtual geographic exploration.

Daniel Ospina (RnDAO)

Daniel Ospina (RnDAO)

A former chef, Daniel learned early on in his career that the people doing all the work in the kitchen, have great ideas that are seldom ever heard

Egor Gavrilov & Anna (XDAO)

Egor Gavrilov & Anna (XDAO)

Based in Moscow, Egor is a co-founder of XDAO and Anna is the CMO. Together, they’re figuring out how to manage money on the blockchain. Specially investors money.

While exploring Web3, they found that there was a gap in financial management tools for DAOs. What was needed was something more advanced than a simple multisig like Gnosis, but less complicated than Aragon. So they built it.

XDAO is in the middle - A multichain DAO builder tool for the financial management of funds, NFTs, gaming guilds.

We’ll be talking about that, how their DAO combats voter apathy, the future of crypto regulations in Russia, and a bunch of tother things.

Spencer Graham (DAOhaus)

Spencer Graham (DAOhaus)

Spencer is a product manager for DAOhaus, and a RaidGuild contributor. During his Web3 travels, he's noticed that there are usually 2 kinds of people in DAOs - those that dip their finger in multiple projects, and those who focus on one project only.

Now, he's championing incentive based mechanisms that make people share their availability and generate stronger commitments via token staking.

That, and he thinks that DAOs can be an answer to climate change.
