Thin Air and a Clear Perspective / Desire as Fuel for the Journey / Everything is Gift

**Listen to Jan. 7th, 22nd & Feb. 7th episodes first**. We’re well into 2024, at just the time when, statistically, most people start giving up on their desires and designs for their lives in the New Year. Let’s finish diving into this ebook which helps us explore intentional living that can lead to 'life to the full' this year. In this episode I re-present sections 7, 8 and 9 of an ebook I wrote many years ago entitled, 'Discovering Your Rhythm of Life: Ancient Wisdom for Living the Good Life'. It's a brief exploration of how we can lean into living a free and full life- the life that Jesus already won for us -and offers to us- as we walk and work with Him. Largely inspired by Christian monastic communities over the past millennia and a half, I unpack what beginning to offer all of our lives to God in gratitude, and to others/our world, could look like. This is just the beginning of a continual process of becoming and being God's redemptive agents in His wonderful world.. which will lead you over the edge of the wild! +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. Military Man> Prisoner> Wiccan Priest> Anglican Monk: The Many Lives of Bro. Tim Luken

Brother Tim Luken is a character in the truest sense of the word.  His life's journey has been varied, and is very interesting.  From his origin story on the banks of the Ohio River Valley, to his present-day vocation as the Abbot General for the Company of Jesus, a third order monastic community canonically resident in the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes, God has been pursuing and preparing him for a purpose.  Bro. Tim is the founder and prior of LivingStone Priory and Five Loaves Food Pantry in Newport News, VA which exists to serve the Hungry of the Virginia Peninsula.   From January to August 2022, Five Loaves served over 744 families –more than 6,939 people– visiting the pantry 12,267 times since January 1st of that year.  Since developing their database in March 2014, they have served over 8,000 families– 19,643 people!  Five Loaves Food Pantry is 100% Volunteer operated with no salaries as an overhead.  Br. Tim has received the 'Unsung Hero Award' for the work done not only with Five Loaves Food Pantry, but also with numerous other pantries on the Peninsula.  To serve alongside Bro. Tim at Five Loaves is to be the heart and hands of God to those on the Hampton Roads Peninsula.  Volunteers are always welcome! +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. Bonus: Dive Deep Into Wonder & Awe

In 2023, may we be more fully caught up in awe and wonder of who our God and great Father truly is, and all that He’s inviting us to be about with Him. This is a recent message I gave at my local parish, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, just north of Columbus, Ohio, USA on January 1st, 2023. The message was inspired by the following texts from the Holy Bible: Exodus 34:1-9, Psalm 8, Romans 1:1-7, and Luke 2:15-21. (correction: Rev. Jack Heaslip served as U2’s chaplain from 1976-2015). +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. Discovering Your Rhythm of Life

Discovering Your Rhythm of Life

Happy New Year (2023), Friends!  This episode's content is twinned perfectly with the beginning of the year when some people are entertaining New Year's resolutions, and each one of us are reflecting on where we find ourselves in life, and where we'd like to be a year from now..  I'm sharing from the first chapter of my ebook 'Discovering Your Rhythm of Life: Ancient Wisdom for Living the Good Life' which was inspired by intentional Christian communities of monastics, and was birthed from the question, 'What does life lived best look like right now?'.  It's full of original imagery I captured over eleven years while living on the island of Ireland, and during visits since.   The ebook will be available digitally, for a small fee, via my website when it relaunches (early 2023), alongside a hoped-for hardcopy version available as print-on-demand.  [Updates on how to purchase it will be made here]  The content of Discovering Your Rhythm of Life is also featured in some of the sessions I offer clients whom I'm serving through on-going soul care. As in every episode below, here I'd like to make special mention of my friend Jonathan Scheele's beautiful design and brilliant layout which makes this ebook desirable.  Sláinte, Jonathan!  Purchase your copy (digital for now, hard copy available later) of 'Discovering Your Rhythm of Life: Ancient Wisdom for Living the Good Life' ebook soon! +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. Daring to Risk it All to Rescue Another

Daring to Risk it All to Rescue Another

Marcus Young is both inspiring, and challenging, to be around.  He's inspiring because if you spend even a little time listening to him, you quickly become aware that he's invested in some eternally significant work.  He's challenging to be around because listening to what he's lived through as He's said yes to the LORD's lead in his life, makes you realize that there are more 'yeses' right in front of you that you have yet to give to God. Marcus has taken on, developed, and launched major initiatives in numerous countries to "rescue children from cycles of violence and human trafficking, educate and mentor them, and clear the way for these children to become the next leaders and peacemakers in their communities."  The events he's lived through are unbelievable, and the reward of seeing children rescued from lives of violence and death - priceless.  Spend a little time listening to someone who's dared to risk it all to rescue another.. and see how God has taken that act of trust and multiplied its impact for the good of countless others. During the interview, Marcus suggests a book for listeners to read called, 'A Banquet Seat and A Listening Ear: Stories from the Kingdom Frontiers' by Rev. Dr. Bill Atwood.  In the United States you can find it here on Amazon. You can find Marcus' book entitled, 'Love Your Enemy: A 30-Day Guide to Compelling Expressions of Faith' in the Amazon store in both paperback and Kindle formats. If you'd like to find out more about the work of rescuing child soldiers, you can do so via Marcus' ministry, InFire.  You can also follow Marcus and InFire via Facebook, twitter, and Instagram.  Please consider donating to this integral, powerful, and significant work, and if you're the praying kind, don't forget to join in the fight that way too!  +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. Bonus: Blaise Pascal’s Belief

Bonus: Blaise Pascal’s Belief

This is a brief ‘taster’ of an hour long conversation some friends and I had based on a podcast entitled 'Reasons to Believe Beyond Reason: The Faith of Blaise Pascal' with Dr. Graham Tomlin.  T.S. Eliot once wrote, “I can think of no Christian writer… more to be commended than Pascal to those who doubt, but have the mind to conceive, and the sensibility to feel, the disorder, the futility, the meaninglessness, the mystery of life and suffering, and who can only find peace through a satisfaction of the whole being.” We will be looking at the life and work of the 17th century French mathematician and philosopher, Blaise Pascal, a man who peculiarly embodied the anxieties of his age and ours, anticipating the intellectual quandaries of Christian belief posed by the Zeitgeists of the modern and post-moderns worlds. Jesus, Rock 'n Roll, and a Voice in the Wilderness

Jesus, Rock 'n Roll, and a Voice in the Wilderness

Michael and Celeste Guido are unique.. and when I say unique in reference to them, I mean it.  For almost four decades they have walked a road very few others have been called to walk.  They have followed the LORD into previously undiscovered territory, bringing the light and the love of God -on display in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit- to countless artists and creatives on numerous continents.  Michael Guido is truly about as close as a person can be to an apostle in our time.  The Guidos' not only open their hearts and hands to artists, they have consistently opened their home and family, inviting artists to be a part of it.  Michael and Celeste have come alongside believers and non-believers alike, always seeking to build relationships, while inviting people into a deeper one with the God-of-the-Angel-Armies.  They've walked alongside (and continue too) recognizable names such as P.O.D., Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), blindside, Chris Daughtry, dcTalk, Stryper, Michael W. Smith, Paul Teutul Jr. and countless others you'll never hear about.  Their lives and calling have been an incredible encouragement to me personally.  I'm forever grateful for them, and I'm honored to call them friends. If you'd like to learn more about their lives and ministry check out www.prministries.com.  You can also find them on Instagram, twitter, and YouTube. Inspiration is the Life of Each Generation

Inspiration is the Life of Each Generation

Carl von Hollen is a one of the most passionate and encouraging men I know. He's been that way since we first met in Chicago in 1998.  Emblematic of his life's trajectory, I often describe Carl as a theo-thesbian since he is trained in theology and acting.. the arts and faith being two of his passions.  He and I have had the opportunity to make some great memories across numerous states in America, as well as Germany (his home country), the United Kingdom, and Ireland (our former home).   Carl has served in numerous church contexts, as a translator for some of the biggest churches in America hosting conferences in Germany, a travel educator, a voice-over artist, as a jury member at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), and an actor. Carl von Hollen is one of those people that you love to be around because inspiration and joy exude from him. May you experience the same from our conversation in this episode!     You can find Carl on IMDB and in this message from Mosaik Berlin (Germany/Deutschland) entitled 'The Secret of Contentment' via YouTube- as well as a few other messages on the same channel. Here's a link to the poem I read at the end of the episode (my favorite poem!), entitled 'Ode' by Arthur O'Shaughnessy. +++ + Special Thanks to.. designer Jonathan Scheele for incredible work, musician Radical Face for use of the tracks "I'll Be There Soon", and "Home Movies" from the album Missing Film, and author J.R.R. The Hope That Gives Rise to Healing

The Hope That Gives Rise to Healing

This is not everyone's story, but at times when circumstances align and our hearts are humble and open, the rescue comes.  The Help that we long for arrives at just the right moment, and then we begin the climb out of the mess, or hole, that we'd been in. Meet Chad and Carabeth.. a young couple that began a family together not realizing the life they had hoped for was about to implode because of choices they were making. These are the times we hurt, and hurt bad, but they don't have to be the end of our story.  As Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Jesus in Matthew 19:26, ESV Bible) This interview with my brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, is Part Two (S1E5). It's an absolute change in direction from what you heard in Part One (S1E4)! If you haven't heard Part One, pause this episode and listen to it first. May their story offer hope to you no matter how difficult and painful your circumstances might be. If you invite Jesus to lead your life, the best is always yet to come -> "God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes." (Psalm 18:24, The Message Bible) You can find Chad on Instagram @chadkellyplus4 and Carabeth on Instagram @carabethkelly. Tolkien for the quote from his work, 'The Hobbit: There and Back Again' (1937) in the podcast intro. > SoulFriend.life / Twitter: @_EdgeoftheWild_ / Instagram: @EdgeoftheWildPodcast / Facebook: EdgeoftheWildPodcast +++ Leave us a message!
