Special Episode ft. Barbara Bray
For our Season 2 finale, we feature Barbara Bray, who recently released her new book, Define Your WHY.  From Barbara's website (barbarabray.net): About Barbara Barbara is a Creative Learning Strategist who believes that anyone at any age can learn and that everyone has a WHY. She works with schools, districts, individuals, businesses, and non-profit agencies around the world. Her dream has been to create an online place that was safe and secure with all the tools and resources all in one place. She did it with My eCoach as early as 1999 — way before there were blogs, wikis, Twitter or Facebook. Barbara is what you call a “Digital Pioneer.” She coined and trademarked the phrase “Making Learning Personal” in 2000 and trademarked it in 2002. Barbara founded Personalize Learning in 2012 with Kathleen McClaskey. After several years and two books later, they decided to do what they do best. Barbara is now doing keynotes, strategic planning, presentations, playshops, webinars, interviews all over the world along with hosting her podcast, and is writing her new book, Define Your WHY to expand on her keynotes and presentations about the WHY. Barbara is a teacher, writer, disruptor, risk-taker, instructional designer, connector, and visionary. People call her a “change-maker.” Whenever anyone told Barbara she couldn’t do something, she took it more like a challenge. Barbara co-authored two books on personalized learning: Make Learning Personal and How to Personalize Learning. She wrote a regular column on professional development for OnCUE (CUE) for over 17 years and continues to blog on this site and writes chapters in books, articles, and as guest posts on other blogs. She works tirelessly to find and research new tools and methods that help educators create learner-centered environments and to find their purpose. Now with multiple opportunities to network using social media and join various online communities, teachers and learners are confused. Barbara makes it her job to determine what is authentic, valid, cost-effective, safe, user-friendly, and relevant for her clients. She is relentlessly researching how to personalize the learning so learners of all ages can develop their passions so they discover their WHY so they can live and learn on purpose. Finding Your "Y"
Recorded on January 20, 2019   Moderator: Dene Gainey (@Dene_Gainey) I have twelve years of classroom teaching experience, working with a diverse group of students during that time. I currently serve as the ELA teacher at my current school as well as the gifted coordinator and teacher of technology. My writing reflects my experiences both in and out of the classroom, as it pertains to the field of education. My educational passions include the student-driven classroom, diversity, and community as well as innovation and authenticity, to include student empowerment and the C.L.I.M.B.E. philosophy.   I attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL for my baccalaureate degree in elementary education K-6. I have a Masters of Education degree in Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University. I am currently a doctoral student at Grand Canyon University. I continue to capture my experiences as an educator in written form. Thanks for reading.   Panelists: Marvia Davidson (@MarviaDavidson) I began my career as a high school English teacher in public, charter, and private schools. I served high school students who always cracked me up and had the opportunity to be an active campus improvement team member, student activities sponsor, and curriculum writer. I’ve managed and facilitated engaging learning in classes small and large.   I love seeing growth in learners and the people with whom I work. I am encouraged when they experience learning epiphanies.   As a result of these experiences, I moved into school leadership roles where I coached and trained teachers to be impactful, passionate, efficient, and effective. I created curricular and instructional products designed to improve learner engagement and performance. I have enjoyed coaching, training, improving processes, people development, collaboration, coming alongside teams, & being a servant thought-leader. Now, I seek to empower, encourage, and equip people as a trainer and learning developer.   To hear a learner say, “Ms. D. this is the first book I’ve ever finished, or I finally get it!” are the moments I live for in learning and in life. Each has cemented my core beliefs and helped me know I was doing my job well.   It is my passion to equip, empower, and encourage the people in my sphere of influence. I am all about helping people who think they can’t to remember they can. Special Episode ft. Eagle Eyes OFOA
Recorded on March 31, 2018 EagleEyes is a mouse replacement system for the computer that helps children and adults with profound disabilities interact and learn by using a computer.  These individuals are most often non-verbal, paralyzed, and at most have a YES/NO method of communicating or are completely locked-in. There are hundreds of  EagleEyes systems distributed in the USA and Canada, in schools, non-profit organizations and individuals homes. EagleEyes was developed at Boston College by Computer Science Professor Jim Gips in 1994. In 2005, The Opportunity Foundation of America began a partnership with the Boston College EagleEyes Project and signed a formal license agreement to manufacture, distribute and provide training for the technology. The Opportunity Foundation of America was chosen by Boston College because of our commitment to distributing this technology as a non-profit organization. We strive to keep the cost of the EagleEyes technology to a minimum for those in need.
