Just Roll Tape 60 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Inside My Head")

Just Roll Tape 60 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Inside My Head")

Often, before The Hamlin Avenue Boyz even begin to ‘roll tape’ in the Homan Studio - Vince and Edward will essentially just bullshit-a-bit to get the conversational juices flowing. While there is usually a clearly identified starting point where the Boyz will signal the booth to ‘roll tape’; many times the tape has been running since the Boyz entered the control room headed to the recording area of the studio. All happening while there is cool music, usually selected by the engineer, playing in the distant background.  BTW - That very music playing in the background can at times influence what conversational direction the Boyz sometimes choose to take. It may also sometimes show up as the soundtrack backdrop or bed for the segment. This bullshit-a-bit period has produced so many moments over the years that the entire Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast Team are all usually glad they got it captured.  All of the tracks that comprise “Inside My Head”, the 16th album of podcast segments produced by The Hamlin Avenue Boyz, were all born from bullshit-a-bit beginnings.  Every one of them. These are definitely something to sprinkle in with your next beautiful 'tug on da glass chalice' or self-assembled Doobie ceremony.  The Boyz did (and do)…..can’t you tell?

Just Roll Tape 59 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Would You?")

Just Roll Tape 59 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Would You?")

How many times throughout your life have you been presented with the question “Would you”?  For most of us, it is probably at least a few times if not more.  This type of question can come up during conversations with any number of friends, family, strangers, listeners to the Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast, and life directions covering a whole host of subjects and situations.  Well, as is sometimes the case, Da Boyz loves to entertain hypotheticals in conversation just about more than anything else.  The reason?  They just love (or would prefer) putting themselves in awkward situations in the laboratory (aka the studio) versus real life.  I mean who wouldn’t? It’s just safer.  One particularly late night of recording produced one of those golden moments that you can hear on tracks 6 and 7 of their latest episode, which was prompted by a communication from a ‘listener’.  Thank you James from Davenport, IA.  So to everybody and anybody listening ‘out there’ - What would you do?  Would you?

As always - Da Boyz is grateful to you for pointing your ears in the direction of Hamlin Avenue now and then and for all your communications to the show.  And we do mean ‘all’.  We encourage you (if the feeling arises) to send the Boyz your comments, questions, or hypotheticals.  Send a shout-out to The Hamlin Avenue Boyz in care of:

Just Roll Tape 58 ( 'Dirty Feet' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

Just Roll Tape 58 ( 'Dirty Feet' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

The Boyz have spent many a ‘Hard Days Night’ over these last few years in Homan Studio “A” pontificating on all manner of subjects, which have produced a stockpile of recordings. Not everything makes the grade for release to the world.  Only those recordings that tickle-the-entire-team in the studio are produced into a Hamlin Avenue Boyz Album of tracks.

No matter the weather, most often The Boyz arrive late in the evening parking in the darkened alley behind the studio. They come ready to enjoy each other’s company, the company of the studio staff and with an almost ‘ceremonial’ approach - the entire team will imbibe in some select herb.  Only then do they signal the engineer with a ‘thumbs up’ to hit the record button and capture the come-what-may moments with the help of the always dependable studio staff of support.  This scene continues sometimes through the night.

On this particular late-night, along with the many other unusual subjects of discussion, the Boyz got on a tangent that was quite surprising to say the least.  As an example - ‘Dirty Feet’.  That’s right we did just say that.  Anything and everything related to da feet.  Who knew there was so much to say. Who knew the younger generation generally doesn’t like the idea of feet or looking at them.  At all.  Who knew there was a solid reason for so much feet washing in biblical times.  Feet had to have been real freakin dirty back then right?  And who knew Vince does not want anyone touching his feet. “Nobody”! To quote an iconic audio artist from the past, Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.)  “And If you don’t know.  Now you know….”

So, enjoy you some ‘Dirty Feet’.

As always, thank you for pointing your ears in this direction now and then and for all your communications to the show.  And we do mean ‘all’.  We encourage you (if the feeling arises) to send the Boyz your comments, questions, or hypotheticals.  Send a shout-out to The Hamlin Avenue Boyz in care of:

Just Roll Tape 55 ( ‘Going To Mexico’ The Hamlin Avenue Boyz )

Just Roll Tape 55 ( ‘Going To Mexico’ The Hamlin Avenue Boyz )

As 1975 turned into 1976, The Hamlin Avenue Boyz made a memorable road trip from Los Angeles to Dallas in Vince’s old red VW bus and did so by skirting the U.S. Mexico border all the way from San Diego to El Paso. Pretty much nothing was seen along the way but scorpions, snakes, and occasional illegals making their way to a new life in America.  The purpose of the trip was to move Vince from his former Hollywood digs to a new adventure in Texas.  What worldly possessions Vince owned at the time were found in that VW bus.  That along with a case of Coors Beer (previously only available west of the Mississippi River), a carton of Marlboro Cigarettes and a fairly large quantity of Panama Red secured just prior to departure from a Hollywood stuntman Vince befriended during his days spent on many a movie studio casting couch. The Boyz spent their time driving day and night, drinking, laughing, smoking cigarettes, and occasionally rolling up some ‘Red’ in Vince’s old red VW Bus.  The entire trip kept them close to the border, which at that time was a difficult line to see or follow.  Sometimes the road would take a turn south for a while and it was not easy to tell whether you were still in America or Mexico.

On the edge of America’s southern border, west of El Paso right where New Mexico and Texas meet Old Mexico lies the famous rough-and-tumble Mexican town of Juarez.  Late one night a couple of hours west of El Paso; the road seemed to once again take a turn to the south only this time it didn’t turn back east or north so the Boyz didn’t know what else to do, so they kept going.  Their decision that night was certainly influenced by the unusual contents that could be found in the VW bus. As the Boyz kept driving they could see lights on the horizon from some kind of a town a few miles up ahead and before long they also saw a sign for El Paso pointing in a northerly direction away from that town.  At the time, the Boyz didn’t put 2+2 together, but the sign they saw pointing to El Paso was a little different than others they had seen along the way.  This one read “Por Aqui A El Paso12.6 km.  Even in their late-night condition, the Boyz thought it was a little strange that the distance to El Paso was not in ‘miles’, but kilometers. The Boyz later figured out they had indeed wandered just south of the border under cover of darkness within a few miles of Juarez, but ultimately they wandered back north across the border well before reaching El Paso.

Just Roll Tape 54 ('Cannibal Cafe' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

Just Roll Tape 54 ('Cannibal Cafe' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

One very early Sunday morning coming down, the Boyz decided to make an unscheduled visit back to the Homan Studio after an already long late night of recording on Saturday.  What made this unusual was they had left the previous night’s recording session just a few hours earlier. So, in the early morning hours with their friend Jack Herrer in tow, they decided to go into the night on a two-wheeled ride while the city slept.  They took random turns into alleys and onto streets that just seemed interesting at the moment, and every now and then they would stop, shut down the engines and engage in conversation with their friend Jack. They were trying to truly get ‘lost’ in the city that raised them.

As the ride and the night unfolded they came upon a most interesting consideration for a food stop they had never seen before, even though they had passed by this same corner on the city’s south side what seemed like hundreds of times before.  The ‘Cannibal Cafe’ appeared out of nowhere.  They pulled in, sat down, looked at the menu, and ordered the “special” from the silent waiter that was also the cook and the only other person in the cafe.  The meal was meat, potatoes, toast, and jam, and was simply referred to on the menu as YOU?  After only a few bites, Vince looked up from across the booth and with a smile on his face told Edward “I have to say there is no telling what the hell this meat is, but overall - YOU taste good”!  Edward looked up and made no reply, but just smiled.  When they were finished, they paid the check and stepped outside to again converse with Jack about their ride, the evening, and the meal and it was then they decided to immediately return to the studio for some follow-up recording inspired by their trip into the night and their foodie experience at the Cannibal Cafe.  The follow-up conversations recorded that early Sunday morning were interesting, to say the least.  And as for the Cannibal Cafe?  The Boyz have been unable to locate that cafe again, but every now and then they will look at each other and remember that - YOU taste good at the Cannibal Cafe.

Just Roll Tape 53 ('My FAV' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

Just Roll Tape 53 ('My FAV' The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

Sometimes an unusual question, asked on the fly at any time anywhere in your life can really throw you.  A stop you in your tracks kinda thing.  This has happened to the Boyz so many times over the years. Usually, while they are deep into a late night of recording conversation in the Homan Studio.

After a few sips of firewater and a puff or two of the magic dragon, you forget about the microphone that’s only a fist away. You don’t even see it anymore.  It’s just a conversation between long-time friends. Then all of a sudden, there it is.  A curve ball question nobody anticipated. In this case, the question that kicked it right out of the gate on this episode of the Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast is on track 1 and it was a simple one posed by Vince.

Do you have a child among your children who you would have to say is your FAV?  No names.  Just do you?  How do you answer it?  Can you answer it?  Especially since the world will hear your answer.  And oh by-the-way you’ve made the commitment from the very beginning to always “Just Roll Tape” and capture it all no matter what.  And it’s at that very kind of moment that you’re glad you have a regular in-house studio recording consultant.  In this case, our dear friend Jack Herer whom The Boyz have known for such a long, long, long time.  Whenever a moment like that occurs, you’re glad Jack is around before the tape even rolls.  He simply and consistently advises in his own special way to just relax, blow it out, and then fogetaboutit. Just let the tape roll.  And that’s just what the Boyz always end up doing.

By-The-Way thanks to the many listeners of the Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast for pointing your ears in this direction now and then. And remember, you can send along your comments, questions, or topics for the Hamlin Avenue Boyz to ponder:

Just Roll Tape 52 (Trouble With Space And Time - The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

Just Roll Tape 52 (Trouble With Space And Time - The Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

So very late one night Da Boyz were taking a break from recording in the studio while their Engineers, DB Cooper, Dick Goesinya, and Barry MyKockinher (aka The Crew) worked on the Homan Studio A master control board where some wire(s) had come undone.  The Boyz took the opportunity to elevate several bottles of cerveza each and fill the studio with music while they conversed at least a ‘dime’s worth’ along with their recording consultant, Jack Herer.  Needless to say after more than an hour's delay in recording in the early morning hours that night they began to have some trouble with space and time once 'the crew' began to again roll tape. And there was a reason.  As their senior producer, Tiffany Rosdedale, likes to say, “when dem Boyz open up a dime they open up their mind and they roll joints bigger than King Kong’s fingers and smoke it down till they’re stingers”. So listen up listeners don’t Bogart this episode.  Pass it on!

Just Roll Tape 50 (Don't Believe Everything You Think - Hamlin Avenue Boyz VIII)

Just Roll Tape 50 (Don't Believe Everything You Think - Hamlin Avenue Boyz VIII)

The Hamlin Avenue Boyz always enjoy the process associated with scheduling another ‘sit down’ at the Homan Studios on Chicago’s Southwest Side. They refer to it as a ‘sit down’ because that’s actually what they do when they occupy the Homan Studios for any length of time. Two comfortable chairs. Vince faces the door for security and Edward directly across with an eye towards their recording engineer and long-time producer behind the glass. There's always a third chair between them for their long-time studio consultant, Jack Herer.

These recorded conversational adventures are never boring for the Boyz or the studio team and they often consume a number of late-night and daylight hours. They always leave exhausted, buzzed, and happy as they head to the alley behind the studios for their two-wheeled ride home. There's another recording session in the proverbial can to be combed through at length with tasty selections marked for editing, mixing, and mastering.

Thanks to the support and collaboration of their long-time Producer, Tiffany Rosedale, Board Engineer, DB Cooper, and Studio Consultant, Jack Herer (They also refer to Jack as the “Emperor of Hemp”); the Boyz have consistently been productive in their studio time.  If you didn't already know, studio time is an expense and they always make it count.

Whenever the Boyz have a ‘sit down’ they cover a lot of topics and subsequently the published recordings are from any number of sessions over a period of time. However, this particular LP recording presents a little twist to their typical LP format in that the Boyz decided to include a ‘medley’ of discussion topics on track 5 that were recorded in the specific order you will hear. Track 6 is the first time the Boyz respond to ‘off-the-wall’ questions and topics from you the listeners. And there’s a rather large amount of conversational ‘scatter shooting’ on track 8 that was also recorded in exactly the sequence you will hear.

Finally, you should know, the Boyz have been ‘in conversation’ with each other for decades so there is a natural familiar quality to every recording that tickles the shit out of both Boyz and those present in the studio. They sincerely hope you enjoy being a fly on da wall as you listen in….. Oh yeah and remember “Don’t Believe Everything You Think” !!

Just Roll Tape 49 (Wake + Bake The Hamlin Avenue BOYZ)

Just Roll Tape 49 (Wake + Bake The Hamlin Avenue BOYZ)

Not too very long ago while deep in the middle of some late-night Homan Studios conversations; the BOYZ were discussing the emergence of legal cannabis coffee and bakery shops in Chicago and the surrounding areas.  This became a point of inspiration for the BOYZ who subsequently made plans to visit the 'Wake & Bakery' in Homewood, Illinois to sample some of their offerings and record the process of doing so.  This they surmised was an interesting plan.  So that's what they did.  The BOYZ and their Homan Studios Producer, Tiffany Rosedale, showed up at the 'Wake & Bakery' on a Friday afternoon, and well.......you'll see how it turned out. When they brought back the recordings from that adventure; the Homan Studios Production Team at work on the next Hamlin Avenue Boyz LP felt the results clearly showed that "Waking and Baking" on that Friday afternoon had an impact on dem BOYZ for sure!  And that it should be included in the HAB7 LP already in post-production.  See if you can notice the ch ch ch ch changes as that visit unfolded.

Just Roll Tape 48 (Hamlin Avenue Boyz - Bad Girls Club)

There are all sorts of clubs in the world.  The Hamlin Avenue Boyz (HAB) have belonged to a few different kinds of clubs over the years both individually and collectively.  Most notably - together they have both joined the special club of those who have made seminal recordings within the Homan Studios environment on Chicago's Southwest Side.  Every time they return to the Homan Studios, no matter how they arrive or how long they stay, they leave behind conversational impressions, moments, memories, and laughter that are inevitably worth saving and sharing.  So it is with HAB6, their latest release.  Or, as they like to call it -

" Bad Girls Club".

You see, both Vince and Edward have lived baby!  And the many conversations and stories shared with you the listener are the evidence.  In particular, Vince has had a very unique business life full of unusual experiences culminating at the crossroads of business and a badass member of the Chicago "Bad Girls Club".  You'll want to hear this....very tasty!

Bon Apetite.

Go Figure.  They never seem to miss a beat.  Even after one helluva hiatus, the Hamlin Avenue Boyz returned to the comfy confines of the Homan Recording Studios in Southwest Chicago to resume their love of recording talking, and tunes just like they had never left.  And of course, as per their usual modus operandi, they were once again aided in their recording by the lovely duo of cold hops and the presence of their very good long-time friend, Jack Herer.  Listen in as they endeavor to cover a wide range of subjects from what it might have been like being a medieval king or peasant to Vince's long ago personal experience on a trip to California.

Well, what else can you say?  The Boyz have been around a long long time.  Mostly on the good side of 'around' fortunately.  They've seen and done a lot.  But every now and then they surprise even themselves when it comes to unique and unfiltered observations of life's content.  And on those occasions when they decide to let all that nonsense dribble out of them and actually capture it to share with the world?  They keep returning to the safe and welcoming confines of the Homan Studios in Southwest Chicago.  At the end of the day, they are always looking to slightly improve themselves.  And, for Somebody To Love The Hamlin Ave Boyz' creative efforts.

Another Hamlin Boyz 'Long Play' audio adventure began mid-day mid-week bookended by heavy snowfall in southwest Chicago.  Once inside the Homan Studios, the Boyz wasted no time in getting down to business. Thanks to a genius engineer and creative producer, the tape began to roll and so did the Boyz. Mix in some potable adult beverages along the way and an elongated in-studio visit from their long-time friend, Jack Herer, and the setting was perfect for their second 'Long Play' audio adventure.

Just Roll Tape 41 (Back 2 da Garden)

Just Roll Tape 41 (Back 2 da Garden)

The world today is occasionally nuts.  If as has been said - IN THE BEGINNING - we actually came from an original beautiful earthly garden vs some kinda BIG bang crawl out of the water thing; we need to get back there.  Life was surely simpler then.  Dominion over the animals.  No clothes are required.  It's always sunny just like in Cleveland. And when you get bored; all of a sudden you find yourself maybe one rib short of a full rack, but in the company of a very very curvy companion.  Sprinkle in the ability to make choices and the only worry you have is to stay clear of that good-looking apple tree.  That should be no problem at all - right?  With all the craziness in the world today; maybe we just need to get Back 2 a simpler way of life.  Back 2 da Garden.  But this time no fruit.

Just Roll Tape 40 (For The Love Of Money)

Here's a Chicago Southside Hamlin Boyz roundtable for ya.

What if you could create as much money as you want once per day - every day -  and all you have to do is come up with a number - every day.  And poof - there it is.  The potential freedom from ever worrying about money again.  And what if there were only two requirements.  (1) You must create some amount every single day (never missing a day), and (2)....?

Would you still do it or take a pass?

I once heard it said that oh, well, a young man ain't got nothin' in the world these days.  Have pity on the young man cuz they ain't got nothin' in the world these days. Well, you know in the old days when a young man was a strong man, all the people, they'd step back when a young man walked by.  But you know, nowadays, it's the old man he's got all the money.  And a young man ain't got nothin' in the world these days.  So have pity on the young man cuz they ain't got nothin' to offer, but some special sauce in the world these days.  They got sweet fuck-all! Just Roll Tape 38 (Medicated Goo)

So, not long ago I was feelin a little anxious about things.  A lot of things.  And I thought to myself....maybe I should sit quietly with my hands folded and meditate or self-medicate with one or more substances.  Or, dial-up my dear friend Gino in Brooklyn, New York for a little perspective.  Thank the phone Jesus he was there right when I needed him.  And boy did he bring it.  Thank my lucky stars for that decision to call because Gino never disappoints in getting me back to a place of calm crazy vs crazy crazy if you know what I mean.  Calm crazy is always preferable.  Anyway, along the way, Gino essentially told me yet again "So follow me, it's good for you.  That good ole fashion medicated goo. Ooh - ooh ain't it good for you. My own recipe will see you through."  And it surely did.  Thank you, Gino!

Just Roll Tape 37 (Blackbird Song)

Amidst the very unusual times, we are now living in - the phone, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger Portal, Zoom, Google Nest Hub, Google Duo, Skype, and Amazon Echo have all become important tools for helping us get beyond the world's increasing isolation and staying in touch with relationships that we care about.

And every now and then just when I need a pick-me-up conversation to get me out of some level of life funk; I dial up Gino in Brooklyn, New York.  He never fails to boil it all down for me so I can laugh and maybe even melt my isolation blues away.  Maybe you have a dear friend you can call at those times too.  I hope so.  For me, that and immersing myself in the sounds of nature are the true calming currencies of life.  So, call a friend.  While I can't promise a conversation with a friend will soothe every situation; I can assure you that being in or near nature will make you feel better.  Just listen to a blackbird song sometime.

Just Roll Tape 36 (It's A Family Affair)

Just Roll Tape 36 (It's A Family Affair)

Whether you have or have ever had a family with kids you have at least probably heard or read about the many diverse stories that come out of that paradigm.  Most often a little crazy, for the most part good, definitely at times a whole lot of fun, or even just plain cute, but sometimes those stories can be a little otherworldly.  The legendary businessman, Joey K is no exception to having experienced all of it with his two now-grown daughters.  They are beautiful, intelligent, and most importantly powerful individuals who have been raised to be who they are regardless of the conditions they may find themselves in.  And boy do they.

One day while catching up with Joey K smack dab in the very early stages of the once-in-a-lifetime pandemic; we found out both of his daughters had just returned home to spend the national pandemic lockdown with their parents.  And while both young adult daughters were living in Dallas and L.A. respectively they chose to return to the nest and with it the awesome relationship dynamics that seem to always be there no matter the circumstances. It's definitely a family affair.

Just Roll Tape 35 (Hypothetically Speaking)

Just Roll Tape 35 (Hypothetically Speaking)

To speak hypothetically means to base a statement on a hypothesis or a proposed situation, sometimes for the sake of reasoning some humorous responses to a hypothetical from another person.  Sometimes maybe even while they are in an altered state?  In simpler terms, it's like saying 'what if' and creating a scenario to support an idea that just might illicit fun or funny dialogue between two or more people.

Now, I have to say that whenever I happen to be alongside the legendary businessman, Joey K, it is always a consideration for me to bring along some hypotheticals for him to digest.  Fortunately, Joey digests things quickly and thoroughly with absolutely nothing going to waste.  This usually makes for delightfully tasty conversation.  Yum.

Just Roll Tape 34 (Drinking With Mickey Mantle)

On June 8th, 1969 a very unique jersey number in Major League Baseball was retired never to be worn again.  The person associated with that number was a once-in-a-lifetime kinda player.  The New York Yankees Mickey Mantle. The Mick.  The Commerce Comet.

As a guy?  Let's just say his life is a fascinating study of human behavior.  So what if you could have spent a day or an evening or both 'Drinking With Mickey Mantle'.  Could ya?  Would ya?  If you did, imagine how that might have turned out?  Based on what we now know, it would likely have been one for the ages.  If you didn't know.  Now you know.

Just Roll Tape 33 (It's Been Awhile.....since we last talked)

Every now and then, if you pay attention, life presents nuggets or pearls of experiences you really need to appreciate.  Catching up with old friends you haven't visited with for a long while being one of them.  One very late night as I was heading to the lobby bar of a beautiful music venue in Dallas, Texas I ran into the legendary businessman, Joey K.  It had been a while since we last found ourselves together anywhere for a tasty stop-N-chat. And as has always been the case, Joey K didn't disappoint even if the visit was brief - it was delightful.  I just let Joey drive the conversation.  So, keep your eyes open as you travel through your days from now on because wherever you might be at any given time you just never know when life just might be offering 'you' a nugget or a pearl experience for you to take notice of and appreciate.  I did and I do.

Just Roll Tape 32 (Sin City & The 7 Deadly Sins)

Most people are familiar with The 7 Deadly Sins.  Just to review, they are LUST, GLUTTONY, GREED, SLOTH, WRATH, ENVY, and PRIDE.  And they all reside in Sin City.  Now supposedly they aren't the 7 Deadly 'Options' in terms of experiences you can select from.  And, it has been said you are to try and steer clear of these things.  However, how bout this - let's say you have to select at least one (or more) that you would like to fully experience in this life.  Without the religious or legal repercussions that might come along with that decision.  Which one do you choose?  Or, have you already previously selected one that has actually already dominated your life for some time now in which case we may need to have a talk, my friend.  I'm putting my toe into Sin City.  Hopefully, it won't grab my ankle and pull me in.  How bout you?

Ah yes.  The freedom to dowhatUwant or saywhatUwant.  How bout this - you have an invincibility potion you can drink one time and get whatever you want or get out of any situation you want.  Would you drink it?  And if so when?  This was the premise for a spirited south-side of Chicago 'happy hour' conversation between the fabled Edward 'eddyEd' Hamlin and Vince Hamlin - The Hamlin Ave Boyz from the Southwest Side of Chicago.  What would you do?  Seems easy enough to choose the time and place for ingesting that one-time invincibility potion.  But when you really think about it - you do not want to waste it so take your time people.

Just Roll Tape 29 ('Time' with the Hamlin Ave Boyz)

One late spring-early summer afternoon, I found myself hanging with a brother from another mother. Vince Hamlin and I go way back.  I mean WAY back.  We were and still are known as The Hamlin Avenue Boyz from the far southwest side deep in the city with broad shoulders.  Chicago.  On this particular afternoon as we swam to the bottom of several Stella Artois 12oz bottles and lit a fire under more than one 'Dogwalker' pre-roll; we found ourselves heading down a rabbit hole of conversation about "time".  We've all heard that time waits for no one and it supposedly won't wait for you or me, but by the end of our afternoon visit what we discovered was time is actually on our side after all.  How do we know?  Because what seemed like hours during our visit turned out to be much shorter.  Don't let the clock fool ya.  It's all made up to simply measure movement from one thing to the next. Who knew?

Damn that man kept me glued to the barstool till late in the night as he regaled me with his imbibed discourse. Sure glad the mic was as hot as the conversation.

In the early part of a southern California afternoon not too terribly long ago - I met up with the legendary Joey K at a somewhat otherworldly watering hole called “The Encounter Cocktail Lounge” in the Los Angeles International Airport. Turns out, the iconic atomic architecture themed building is the perfect pitstop between flights or as a destination unto itself. In either case, it is worth the adventure if you are ever in that part of the world.

On this particular afternoon, we began our conversation innocently enough after just a few strong libations between us. But by the time we climbed out of the conversation rabbit hole that afternoon - we had covered a number of subjects from being famous to eyebrows and a whole host of things in between. The conversation ‘and’ atmosphere produced some words to live by. When we were done we executed the perfect WEST LA FADEAWAY. Let’s “Just Roll Tape 20” …..

He didn't ask for that mantle, but as it sometimes happens, life tapped him on the shoulder and told him "Joey, you can do this.  The world needs you!"  So, he simply accepts it and lets the fun begin.  Got a question for Joey K?  Send your most urgent questions about anything to - LetJoeyDrive@Mail.com

Air travel has always had the potential to be otherworldly at any time depending on circumstances, but these days 'otherworldly' takes on a whole different vibe.  So, it might not be surprising to find out that traveling with the legendary Joey K - even during these times - can still be a whole lot of fun.  Somebody help us!  We are having too much fun on this flight.

"hey, joe I've got one more question."  A certain outcome 'or' what's behind the curtain?  Pretty interesting either way.

Just Roll Tape 14 (SiriusXXXM Channel - Dear Joey)

So you are bouncing around the internet one evening just wishing there was a place you could go; to get the answer to important questions that simply come up now and then.  More importantly, a sage you could go to.  And you would just know that what you get in response will be unique and maybe even surprising.  Even if it might be just a bit "dark & dank" !! Oh well.  Paula from Houston, Texas had a truly important question she needed help with.  And Joey did not disappoint.

Just Roll Tape 12 (Gingervitis - Goin To Cali)

In front of a fire on the shores of Lake Tahoe one August night, we learned much from a human wisdom channel we tuned in to. We agree. Music makes the world go round. However, we don't care what the voices tell him. Gingers ‘are’ beautiful life adventures.

There are a million stories in the naked city.  And this is just one we ran into over lunch one day.  Take a legacy of over two hundred years of defending our nation.   Mix in a little 'perspective' on how one individual might get into that line of work and you will become more aware of a unique national and personal history that is unfolding right in front of you.  Oorah !!

Basic.  Raw.  The only kind of feedback you want when you find yourself heading down the rabbit hole.  Thank goodness we got Joey 'K' alongside.  Trust it.  Keep going.  Don't look back.
