The objective for these podcasts is to garner interest for the UH West Oahu's Risk Management and Insurance Certificate Program and Gamma Iota Sigma Chapter (Insurance Club) Recruitment. RMI Hawaii Today features risk management and insurance professionals discussing activities involved in risk management and insurance. Also, to share their professional career experiences and personal stories of how each member became involved with the industry, provide some expert advice for individuals interested in joining the industry, and the future of the industry.

The Insurance Industry in Hawaii - Ellen Mimori, RLI Corp.

Ellen Mimori has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry.  She has worked on the carrier as well as the agency side of the industry and is currently with RLI Insurance.

In the early 2000s, Ellen joined HAIP to expand her industry knowledge and continue lifelong learning goals. Honolulu Association of Insurance Professionals (HAIP) has provided the opportunity to network and form lasting relationships as well as education and giving back to the community. She is honored to serve with the current HAIP Officers to pursue our President's goal of "Educate, Enrich, and Empower."

UH West Oahu Risk Management and Insurance Certificate Program

The certificate in risk management and insurance provides training in risk management for personal and commercial lines of insurance and prepare students for the CPCU examinations and other professional certifications. Courses cover personal property and liability insurance, life and health insurance, retirement planning, business law, loss prevention, risk retention, self-insurance, and risk financing techniques. Students completing the certificate in risk management and insurance will be better prepared to obtain an insurance license and pass the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) examination and course of study. UH West O‘ahu worked in partnership with Hawai‘i’s insurance industry to create this Risk Management and Insurance certificate specifically to address the growing need for skilled insurance professionals locally and nationwide. The program is presently offered at UH West O‘ahu both in-person and online.

The Insurance Industry in Hawaii - Martha Nobriga, DTRIC Insurance

Martha Nobriga is Vice President of Agency Relations who strengthens DTRIC Insurance's connections within the community. She is a veteran in Hawaii's insurance industry with over 40 years of experience. Before joining DTRIC Insurance in 2014, Martha was Vice President/Account Executive at John H. Connors Insurance. She previously held various positions with Bank of Hawaii Insurance Services, First Insurance, Marsh/Seabury & Smith, Hawaiian Insurance Group, Triad Insurance Agency, and Mid-Pacific Insurance.

Martha is the current president of the Honolulu Association of Insurance Professionals (HAIP) and is a past president of the Underwriter's Association of Hawaii. She is a Certified Professional Service Representative (CPSR) and Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW). Martha has received numerous awards for her outstanding service and was recognized as Member of the Year by HAIP in 2012. She is also an active community member with various nonprofit organizations, including March of Dimes and the Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC).
