Their meal service enables seniors to enjoy a hot meal delivered to their place of residence, as well as the opportunity to interact with the volunteer bringing food to their door.  In many cases this is the only human interaction they have that day.

🙌In this episode we have the fortune and privilege to have Dr. Jorge Reynolds on board, Colombia’s pioneer of the electric heart. He invented the electric pacemaker before producing groundbreaking research on whales and nanotechnology.

In 1958, a Cambridge University-educated electrical engineer made history when he developed the first battery-powered external pacemaker at the Shaio Heart Foundation in Bogotá. His first patient was a Colombian priest, who had his life extended 17 years thanks to Dr. Jorge Reynolds’ “totally homemade” apparatus.

Reynolds’ pacemaker would go on to become a widely-used device in hospitals around the world. There were no other options on the market for treating irregular heart conditions.

Reynolds became a heart expert not through medicine, but electronics. Seeing how many patients turned up at the Shaio with arrhythmia and short life expectancies, he applied his knowledge to expanding the pacemaker’s possibilities.

Even though Reynolds was the father of the pacemaker and early models were manufactured in Bogotá, mass production overseas soon became the norm.

Electronics is now widely applied in medicine via robotics, tissue engineering, stem cell research and partial wave spectroscopy, among other uses. Pacemakers have been developed for patients suffering from a wide range of health conditions – from hypertension to Parkinson’s.

After the landmark scientific development of the pacemaker, Dr. Reynolds began to monitor the hearts of Humpback whales in their oceanic habitat.

Hi! My name is Megan and I work for Right at Home here in Rhome, TX.We are a locally owned and family operated business that is licensed, bonded, and insured. All of our caregivers are W2 employees, which means we are 100% responsible for them. Due to our screening process and ongoing training programs we have been recognized as one of the Top Home Care Agencies for the 3rd year in a row earning us the CARING STAR of 2021 for Senior Care Service Excellence. Today I would like to share with you some of the services that we offer and ways that we are able to provide additional assistance for our seniors and disabled adults.

Right at Home of Rhome offers non-skilled or non-medical caregiving services which means we do not have nurses on staff and we do not administer medications. However, we can pick up prescriptions for our clients and help them with med reminders.

We have an hourly rate with a minimum of 3 hours per shift and are available up to 24 hours, seven days a week. Our scheduling is flexible and allows you to make changes as needed or cancel any time without penalty. There may be resources available to you to help cover the cost which we can discuss further during our initial conversation.

Our caregivers make great companions by socializing, taking walks, playing games or engaging in hobbies that interest our clients. If you need someone to just sit with and/or monitor a client, we can provide safety supervision as well. A patient-specific Care Plan is created for each client to fit their needs. Beyond our basic companion care we also provide homemaker services, transportation, personal care assistance and skilled nursing support.

A breakdown of these services includes things like…

Assistance with laundry, light housekeeping and meal preparation. Running errands such as grocery shopping or driving to appointments. Ambulation and mobility assistance, bathing, toileting, and working alongside Home Health nurses in order to facilitate efficient care for our clients.

My name is Megan and today I would like to talk to you all about my journey thus far working for Right at Home in Rhome Texas.

I want to share some of my experience with you because the past three years that I have been with Right at Home, Rhome have been an honor and a tremendous joy.

Back in early 2018 I found myself working somewhere that I was not very happy being. My good friend who had recently been hired on with Right at Home Rhome spoke highly of them and recommended that I apply with them as well. Having some previous experience with in home care I decided to give my two week notice with my current employer and submit an application there with Right at Home.

Since day one, from the first call I received and from the first time I walked into the office I was made to feel so welcome. The environment was unlike any other I had been a part of and I knew I made the right decision.

The continuous support and training at Right at Home Rhome has given me the tools I need to give our client’s the best care possible and has enabled me to grow. With growth comes opportunity and after two years working as a caregiver, I was offered an office position as the new Outreach Specialist.

Being with a company that treats you like family, always does their best to recognize your hard work and show appreciation for all that you do is a huge blessing. Right at Home, Rhome truly cares for all of their employees and understand that taking care of their team better equips those team members to provide the best care possible for our client’s.
