Victims of Abuse and PTSD

Victims of Abuse and PTSD

One of the reasons victims of abuse stay in abusive relationships is due to suppressing past traumatic experiences. A lot are dealing with PTSD and do not realize it because they were never seen to be diagnosed.

Today's episode shares a little light on some of the things victims deal with when they have not dealt with past issues and what they could do to help resolve those issues.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Abuse

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Abuse

I remember when I first heard about PTSD. I was a youth and from what I remember, most of what I heard about it was related to men who went to the Vietnam War. Not a lot was spoken about victims of abuse dealing with PTSD as it is today. There were issues in our community with couples experiencing abuse in the home due to trauma experienced by the men who served during the war. As told by my parents, and the other adults in my community, young men were taken from high school and taken to the war zone to participate in the war. Today's episode is the connection of PTSD and abuse.  Publications Support Proactive Eye podcast Support Heal With Granny Email: proactiveye@gmail.com Please make use of these resources: If you are in immediate danger, call *911 National Domestic Violence hotline 1(800)799-SAFE National Child Abuse hotline 1(800)4-A-Child National Sexual Assault hotline 1(800)656-HOPE National Suicide Prevention hotline 1(800)273-8255 National Sexual Violence Resource Center:  https://www.nsvrc.org/   Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network: https://www.rainn.org/  ***************************************************************************************************************************************************HEALING IS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS; NOT A ONE SHOT DEAL! ~ Elegant Granny Connect with me: Heal With Granny  LinkedIn  Alignable  HappsTV Instagram - @proactiveeye Twitter - @proactiveeye Reference(s):  American Psychological Association. 2nd Annual Sexual Violence Avocation - Recap and Reflection

Experiencing abuse is NOT a joke. It can paralyze you, traumatize you, and prevent you from enjoying or living life to the fullest. Raising awareness of any forms of abuse, sharing relatable stories, the mindset of the victim and survivor, and things you can do to help are the premise of this podcast. Doing a recap and sharing my reflections in today's episode will help you to understand why I do this and will continue doing so. Next year will be a little different. I give a hint how in this episode.

2nd Annual Sexual Violence Avocation - A Brief Synopsis of the Rape Culture

2nd Annual Sexual Violence Avocation - A Brief Synopsis of the Rape Culture

Grannyism - The truth of the matter is there are people who have no respect for others or their boundaries and consider themselves privileged enough to cross those boundaries no matter what the victim says or does to prevent the occurrence, what their employer says about having no tolerance of it on the job, or even if they have been in trouble for committing these acts before. They just do not care. So when people are blamed for this ugly occurrence that has happened to them you pretty much just made things worse. ~ Elegant Granny

2nd Annual Sexual Violence Avocation - Experiencing Sexual Assault/Asexual Violence As A Victim

2nd Annual Sexual Violence Avocation - Experiencing Sexual Assault/Asexual Violence As A Victim

This episode will about the victims experience with sexual violence and sexual assault.

According to the RAINN website (Rape, abuse, and incest national network), every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted; and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child.

From 2009-2013, Child Protective Services agencies substantiated, or found strong evidence to indicate that, 63,000 children a year were victims of sexual abuse.

A majority of child victims are 12-17. Of victims under the age of 18: 34% of victims of sexual assault and rape are under age 12, and 66% of victims of sexual assault and rape are age 12-17. Meanwhile, only 5 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison. Every day, hundreds of Americans are affected by sexual violence.

2nd Annual Proactive Eye Sexual Violence Avocation

2nd Annual Proactive Eye Sexual Violence Avocation

Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence are important to talk about. So many people feel ashamed of what has happened to them or have been threatened of what will happen to them if they tell their story. No one, absolutely no one, should ever feel like they are worthless, have no value, or not important because of this traumatic event. It does not matter what gender, age, race, nationality, sexual orientation, or creed, no one deserves to be treated with this form or any form of abuse.

This episode will be the start of a new series which involves the 2nd Annual Proactive Eye Sexual Violence Awareness Avocation.

Transitions - Dealing With Loneliness

Transitions - Dealing With Loneliness

This is the last installment of the Transitions series. Survivors of abuse have a hard time letting go of feelings just like everyone else. This is why in a previous episode I stated that the first 90 days are very crucial. Just because it was necessary to end the relationship and the survivor is now in a safe place does not mean their feelings for the one they left has ended. It takes time. And the longer a survivor has been with that person, the harder it is to heal. Love is not something you can turn off or on like a light switch. It is a matter of a growth and maturity which requires patience. Getting over that person involves the same thing. This time instead of having patience towards the other person you are in a relationship with, it is important that the survivor understands it is time to redirect that patience towards themselves. And to best support them, supporters – survivors need a lot of patience from you.

For those of you who are survivors, Granny wants to say – YOU GOT THIS! You are embarking on a new journey now so be proud of yourself. Yes it feels like hell because you still love them, but that’s ok. That just confirms you’re still human. What is not ok, is you still being in a space where they or anyone else can harm you in any shape or form.

Transitions - Rebuilding A Relationship With Yourself

Transitions - Rebuilding A Relationship With Yourself

Today’s episode will be back on track with the transition series, and today’s topic is rebuilding a relationship with yourself. Getting back to the most important person in your life – YOU – is a big deal because what generally happens as you are in an abusive relationship, absolutely everything is about the abuser and no one else, so the importance of your/kids existence (or the relationship with yourself) tend to fade. With this in mind, I will share a few things that could help.

For those who do not know, I am a Restoration Strategist supporting victims and survivors of abuse as they transition from toxic relationships. I also share resources with their supporters (friends, family, or coworkers) with resources to help them transition successfully. Just so you know, the website is being updated and will have new services released in Quarter 2. The tentative date is April 1, but I will keep you updated on the actual date of release.

Transitions - Fearful to Fearless

Transitions - Fearful to Fearless

One of the many, many, many things a survivor of abuse deals with is fear. Not knowing if their abuser will track them down and harm them again; if they will threaten to harm their family members; stop their flow of money by causing them to lose their job/business; steal the children away if there are any involved; sending others to taunt them for leaving – these are the things survivors either deal with or are in fear of happening once they have left the toxic situation. Today, I am using this episode to speak to the survivor and the supporter to help them get from fearful to fearless.

Transitions - From Toxicity to Wholesomeness

Transitions - From Toxicity to Wholesomeness

As difficult as it is leaving out of a toxic relationship, it is equally hard evolving into a healed individual; mainly because as someone works on healing, they have to confront all the darkness they went through and process ‘out loud’ how it makes them feel and how they want to change it now that they have the opportunity to do so. Today’s episode will be about transitioning from toxicity to wholesomeness.

Living That VIP Status

Living That VIP Status

No one in this world should be more important to you than you, and this is also for those who have not experienced abuse. In any given situation, it is necessary that whatever, or whoever, you are engaged in or with, brings you peace and things you want to manifest. If that’s not happening, there is a problem.

Living that VIP status will help you gain momentum of continuing your life of freedom after a life of abuse.

Healing After A Loss By Suicide

Healing After A Loss By Suicide

This one is tough. How do you deal with the loss of someone you know or love who died by suicide? I can start by telling you how it made me feel – helpless, scared, angry, abandoned, guilty, etc. I never knew what caused my loved ones to leave me this way, and it is possible I will never know.

My prayer is that this episode will give you some options on how to recover after your loss.
