The Cheer Up Luv Podcast

By Eliza Hatch

Hello and welcome to The Cheer Up Luv Podcast, with me your host, Eliza Hatch. This is a podcast based on the photo series Cheer Up Luv, which is a campaign I started in 2017, dedicated to retelling stories of sexual harassment.

In this podcast, I will be interviewing a number or artists, activists and creatives about their work, and discussing your submitted stories of sexual harassment, with the aim of dismantling myths and challenging some of the things that have become normalised in our day to day lives.

*BONUS EPISODE* with #YouAreNotAlone

*BONUS EPISODE* with #YouAreNotAlone

This week we have another bonus special episode which was made in collaboration with #YouAreNotAlone, a public awareness campaign. This episode is dedicated to addressing the issue of domestic abuse, recognising the broad and varied forms in which it exists and provide valuable information.

In this episode, I will be speaking to three representatives from the charities Refuge, Surviving Economic Abuse and SafeLives. Each of the guests will talk about the different types of domestic abuse, the stereotypes around it and most importantly, how to access the support available.

If you have been affected by anything that you have heard listening to this, more information is available at www.gov.uk/domestic-abuse, and you can contact The National Domestic Abuse Helpline by dialling: 0800 2000 247. The 24 hour helpline in Scotland is 0800 027 1234, Wales 0808 801 0800 and Northern Ireland 0800 917 1414.

If you are in immediate danger, please ring 999.

For more information about Surviving Economic Abuse and support available please visit:https://survivingeconomicabuse.org/

For more information about SafeLives and support available please visit: https://safelives.org.uk/

For more information about Refuge and support available please visit: https://www.refuge.org.uk/

If you are experiencing domestic abuse and need urgent help, you can also ‘Ask for ANI’ in participating pharmacies. ‘Ask for ANI’ is a domestic abuse codeword that stands for Action Needed Immediately and which is available in nearly half the pharmacies across the UK including Boots, Superdrug and other independent pharmacies, so be sure to look out for the icon in the windows .

This podcast was made in partnership with the #YouAreNotAlone campaign. The UK Government launched #YouAreNotAlone in April 2020 to help raise awareness about the support available to domestic abuse victims during the pandemic.

Welcome to the Cheer Up luv Podcast hosted by me, Eliza Hatch!

This is a podcast based on the photo series Cheer Up Luv, which is a campaign I started in 2017, dedicated to retelling stories of sexual harassment.

In this podcast, I will be interviewing a number of artists, activists and creatives about their work, and discussing your submitted stories of sexual harassment, with the aim of dismantling myths and challenging some of the things that have become normalised in our day to day lives.

Basically, I wanted to do a deeper dive into the issues, and stories that I post about on Cheer Up luv, and reflect on the weight these stories have when they are read out loud, coupled with some really interesting chats with people I admire, doing incredible things!

So stay tuned, as there are some really exciting guests lined up for this season!

* Trigger Warning

We will be discussing themes surrounding sexual harassment in this podcast, and reading out stories submitted from members of the Cheer Up Luv community.  Each theme of the episode will be slightly different, and tailored to what the guest feels comfortable talking about. All stories discussed on the podcast have been submitted in the knowledge that they will be read out, with consent for first names to be used, or in some cases anonymous.

Each story is openly discussed with the guest from the point of view of personal experience, bearing in mind everyone's experiences to harassment may differ and no reaction is the same.

If you would like to send in your story, please feel free to DM @cheerupluv or submit via the website: www.cheerupluv.com
