Hildegard of Bingen was certainly ahead of her time on many fronts, and her music stands the test of time, too, still being played today. But her visions, feminism, and theology are not to be emulated. These women were weird in the extreme, and yet their doings and their theology are praised by Catholics and have even inspired some Protestants with their examples of private revelations or extreme asceticism or deeds of the flesh. Julian of Norwich was definitely an “Influencer”. How so, you may ask, especially since she lived the greater part of her life as a recluse? She had visions, and she wrote them down.
