The End Time Blog Podcast

By Elizabeth Prata
Exalting the name of Jesus through Christian essays and podcasts.

About me: I was formerly an elementary school teacher, a journalist/editor, now I'm an elementary teacher's aide. I love writing. After I was saved I began a writing ministry for Christian women on the topics of encouragement, Reformed theology, and discernment. I love children, art, reading, and a quiet life. Why The End Time? We're living in the end time. Time is short to share the Gospel- and grows shorter each day. I'm a member in a local, elder-led church, and I await the day I will meet my Jesus face to face. Blessings!

Discernment Week: Wrap-up
This episode is also available as a blog post: http://the-end-time.org/2021/08/21/discernment-week-wrap-up/ Here on The End Time I spent the last week writing and podcasting about discernment. I did my best to show what discernment is; both the gift some possess and the training up in that we all should do. I showed how discernment operates in the church, and gave some examples of people who do discernment well. Discernment is biblical wisdom applied in order to test what is good and hold onto it. Here are all the essays: Discernment Week #1- What is discernment and why do we need it? Piety for piety’s sake, and not ‘unto the LORD’
We all do things for show, hoping someone will see and notice us doing it. It’s the pride in us that wants to be seen and applauded. But Jesus said when giving or praying or fasting, and by extension any service unto the Lord, render it privately. Don’t let your left hand know what your right is doing. And He knows the difference between rote service and humble, sincere service. The alabaster vial full of courage
Secondly, in the culture of that time, it was common for Pharisees and other town dignitaries to invite notable people to their home for a meal. They would usually leave the doors open so that interested bystanders could listen to the conversation, too. Since this is a Pharisee's home and we know they like the chief seats and places of honor, and to be seen and revered (Matthew 23:6-7), this host Pharisee certainly would have left the doors and windows open to be seen and heard as he no doubt thought he would defeat Jesus in conversation and come out on top. Do we understand how MUCH of an offense the cross was?
Do we understand how MUCH of an offense the cross was? By Elizabeth Prata But as for me, brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been eliminated. (Galatians 5:11) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18) Some translations of the Galatians 5 verse say the cross is an ‘offense’. Charles Spurgeon was a great preacher. In his sermon What are the Clouds? He asks timeless questions. He asks the questions we ask today, when there are disasters, wars, tragedies. Suppressing the truth and searing the conscience
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. God made two genders and only two genders. Gender is not ‘fluid,’ nor should we misidentify our gender
God made man. Then God made woman, Genesis 2:22. God made male and He made female. He made only two genders. He didn’t make another Adam and then change that Adam into Eve. He used one rib, and fashioned a woman, distinct from a man. He did this for a purpose. First, to be a helper suitable for man. Second, so that the two would come together and populate the earth. Listen in to find out how seeking to switch genders is a rejection of God's created order. Phil Johnson sermon “What Creation Reveals” The Gospel in a Nutshell with J. How to make an idol in three easy steps: Exhibit A- The rod of Aesclepius
In around 1400 BC, Moses led the Israelites into the wilderness. They had been released from slavery by powerful acts of God, including ten plagues and parting the Red Sea to aid their escape. (Exodus 1-15) However, it wasn’t long before the Israelites grumbled. They were sick of manna, they wanted an easier life, they wanted to get there. (Numbers 20:4). So they grumbled some more, against Moses and against God. God heard their grumbles. Jailed for the Lord – Paul in the ‘House of Darkness’
Today I'm looking at the notorious jail in Rome known as the Mamertine, dubbed so in the medieval period. History does not record for a definite fact that Peter and Paul were at different times held there, but tradition and Roman practice indicate it was a strong possibility. Why was this jail notorious? Was it really that bad? (hint: YES) This episode is also available as a blog post: http://the-end-time.org/2021/07/12/jailed-for-the-lord-paul-in-the-house-of-darkness/

Don’t “help” the Gospel
Because the Gospel is too simple for some people, or too offensive for others to hear, well-intentioned Christians, even pastors, sometimes tweak the Gospel, change the Gospel, soften the Gospel, in order to "help." Despite evil days, the word spreads
It’s evil days. The Bible tells us that. And we only need look at both secular and Christian news sites to see it playing out in living color before our eyes. It’s enough to get a person down. Here are two encouragements for you. This set of verses from God’s word are but a few of the verses that tell us that no matter that satan’s efforts to try and thwart, interrupt, or block God’s plan, none of it will work... God told me: part 5, Conclusion
For the last week I’ve been presenting different essays examining from a biblical perspective whether direct revelation is happening today. There were 4 previous parts to the series. Today is the conclusion. It was sparked from a conversation I’d had with Jennifer Ross of Confidently Called Homemakers on her podcast. Please go take a listen to the wonderful material Jennifer has for you over at her site. Here is my final question: Why is all of this important knowledge for the average Christian mom and wife? ‘God told me’: part 4- Should we avoid ministries where the person says they receive direct revelation?
Question: I’ve heard Christian women claim “voices from God” promised them a large following, or popular ministry, or a specific calling. How does this go against what’s written in God’s word? And should we avoid their “ministries?” This episode is also available as a blog post: http://the-end-time.org/2021/05/03/god-told-me-part-4-should-we-avoid-ministries-where-the-person-says-they-receive-direct-revelation/ I use the NASB translation unless otherwise noted

Marriage is intended to be solely one man and one woman
Yesterday I wrote about polygamy in the Bible. God does not accept polygamy as an appropriate marital configuration. His standard is seen in Genesis 2:24, where he brought one man to one woman and made them as one flesh for life. So on what basis do the Mormons claim it's legitimate to have plural wives? Listen to find out. Marriage: Polygamy in the Bible
A dear sister contacted me and asked me to write about polygamy. In my series, I’d only mentioned polygamy, noting that Abraham had multiple wives. So did, David, Solomon, Elkanah, and that even the institute of marriage crumbled as early as Genesis 4:19, when we read that Lamech took two wives. As I was writing the series I briefly considered writing more about polygamy (multiple spouses supposedly married to one person) but discarded the idea since polygamy isn’t a huge concern in the US. I was wrong. This episode is also available as a blog post: http://the-end-time.org/2021/04/27/marriage-polygamy-in-the-bible/

Persevering in Marriage: A True Story
Persevering in Marriage: A True Story By Elizabeth Prata Marriage is hard. It takes a lot of work, denial of self, service to the spouse, and submission. Having Jesus at the center is necessary for success and even then, some Christian marriages still fail. Without Christ, I am not sure how any marriage survives! I am not married now, but I was before I was saved. It was difficult and I wish now that I’d had Jesus to rely upon for help. Christians are truly blessed to have the Groom to whom we can bring our marital cares, joys, and petitions. This week I’ll look at Christian marriage in a upcoming few essays. Here is a heartfelt, true story about marriage from someone who knows. May you be encouraged as I was by this sweet testimony of my friend Pastor James Bell. He posted this in 2016. He’ll now have been married for 54 years next month. Here’s Pastor Bell: This episode is also available as a blog post: http://the-end-time.org/2021/04/19/persevering-in-marriage-a-true-story-2/

The sea is restless
But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt. (Isaiah 57:20) [The ungodly are] wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. (Jude 1:13) The sea is an apt metaphor for the restlessness of the ungodly. They toss and turn, go to and fro, casting up muck and mire with ungodly thoughts and deeds. In Jude, he is speaking of infiltrating false teachers, but the metaphor is apt also to apply in general to the ungodly, their foaming spray prevents clear vision and in fact has no substance. Having a free platform in which to share one's thoughts and words with the world was a revelation, as I remember what life was like pre-internet. The Carpenter
I think we’re all curious about Jesus in his “hidden years at Nazareth” as Morgan called them. We see much about the baby when he was born, and then when he was about two years old when the Magi worshiped him in the house. We see nothing else of Jesus until he was twelve and at the temple questioning the priests and listening to them. That was the incident when the caravan left Jerusalem to return to Nazareth but Jesus wasn’t among them. Joseph and Mary had to return and look for the boy. Then…nothing until he stepped foot in the Jordan at John the Baptist’s baptism of Him. What was Jesus like in the in-between? Here’s why we should read old books
I’m reading a biography of the short missionary life of William Borden, turn of the last century. It’s called Borden of Yale ’09 by Mrs. Howard Taylor. It’s considered to be a good bio of the young millionaire who gave it all up to be a missionary, but tragically died before he reached his intended field. It’s a good book that paints a sweet picture of a godly man raised in a godly family. This biography led me to knowledge of G. Campbell Morgan, who apparently is one of the 20th century's great expositors. Up on the Roof
In the Bible times, the roof was an important ‘room’. It was constantly used for a variety of things. Why? Homes were small, dark, smelly, and the lower room held the animals.
