Real-Time Self-Publishing: The Launch Day Chronicles of a New Pen Name

Real-Time Self-Publishing: The Launch Day Chronicles of a New Pen Name

Episode 77 explores the highs and lows of a new book launch under a pen name, adapted from a Kindle Vella story. This episode features several updates I recorded throughout the launch day, providing a real-time peek into the journey. We also revisit the launch two weeks later, examining key metrics such as rankings and pages read in the Kindle Unlimited environment. I'm also talking about TikTok videos and Facebook ads on launch day...

Today is about my author newsletter and how I added 84 subscribers in one week via TikTok and Instagram, Welcome Sequence and More...

Also mentioned in this article:

  1. When you've been crushing on your brother's best friend ever since you slammed into him at the rink...
  2. Everyone’s booming and cruel jokes resonated in your mind like a nightmare.
  3. He didn't laugh. Instead...
  4. His powerful athlete-of-the-year arms around your waist, he murmured...
  5. "Are you okay there, Jellybean?" And...
  6. When you nodded (not trusting your voice not to break), he added,
  7. "You got this." And his rugged hand found yours... Your breath caught as he taught you how to skate *in front of everyone*
  8. You finally understood the flutters described in your mother's harlequin novels...
  9. Except they weren't snow flurries dancing in your chest.
  10. Oh no. They were a teenage-love-Taylor-Swift song blizzard.
  11. And for the past fourteen years, your heart's been beaten, bruised, burned...
  12. by an unrequited crush on your brother's way-off-limits best friend.
  13. Fourteen years. This should come with a trophy. Or some sort of support group.
  14. Especially as he’s now standing in your kitchen…

Episode 75 - Podcast reset, a quick recap and three newsletters for writers

Today, I explain why I won't be posting new episodes regularly, share great new about my latest biopsy (no signs of recurrence, YAY!), an update about the month of December (so many things: Vella, writing immersive videos and more) as well as three newsletters for writers. Oh and I have a new book up for pre-order # Most Eligible Scrooge (how awesome is that title?)

BONUS - Three Black Friday Deals For Writers (2022)

BONUS - Three Black Friday Deals For Writers (2022)

There are a lot of sites listing Black Friday deals for writers such as Kindlepreneur Black Friday Deals For Writers 2022.

The list below is made up of three Black Friday Deals I’m either going to use or am thinking about using.

  • One Stop For Writers (40% for 6 month plan with BF2022): I’ve been using One Stop Writers for more than a year, I think, and it has helped me so much. I don’t use all the features (yet) but I always turn to it when I’m revising. The emotion thesaurus, emotions amplifier, colors and patterns and so much more have been so so helpful to me. I have also used The Character Builder to help me craft Alessandro. So, if you’ve enjoyed #SweetsForLove and the grumpy yet charming bodyguard, part of his characteristics came from using One Stop For Writers.
  • Inkers Con 2021 on Demand (currently 50% off): I really learned a lot during the 2022 Mini-Con (it had four classes, including one with Becca Syme and another on budgeting which has helped me making profits this year – so yay!). There are 27 presentations in Inkers Con and so many I’d like to listen to from the 2021 Inkers Con. 2021 Inkers Con classes on sale for HALF OFF this weekend only (ends Monday at midnight ET). The normal price is $245 but use coupon code HALF21 and pay only $122.50 (or break it into two payments). Access is for 6 years with 100% money-back guarantee.
  • ProWritingAid: : ProWritingAid is a grammar checker, style editor, proofreader, and writing coach all in one. I’ve been using ProWritingAid since August 2022. And I personally like it more than Grammarly. The one thing holding me back from the lifetime deal is that my current yearly subscription is ending in August 2023 and I don’t get a pro-rated discount for the other months… so I might wait until then to see if they have another discount. Or I’ll wait until next November. Buuuuut if you’re currently looking to use ProWritingAid, they’re currently running a 50% off for selected plans.
  • Okay, I know I said three … but here’s another one… 100 photo/vector downloads from Depositphotos (lifetime) for $39 – it’s great for promo or covers… I won’t be using – but only because I use Canva Pro and still have pictures available on Depositphotos from a past deal.

Trying out a new book review strategy and SO MANY emotions about the release of #SweetsForLove

Today, I share with you my new (to me) strategy to get advance book reviews, using TikTok, Instagram (and relying on my newsletter which I've always done) and contacting readers from Netgalley who have reviewed a previous book in the series and who mentioned they'd be interested in contacting with me.
The first #SweetsForLove reviews are raving! :-) Oh and you can get your own copy here:
books2read.com/u/3Gwzpa
In addition, I have created a #SweetsForLove Bingo :-) (bit.ly/SweetsForLoveBingo) and I have a #SweetsForLove Team (Facebook group and discord channel).
And I'm also explaining why this release week is *very* emotional (in a lot of ways). I'm pretty calm about the release itself but knowing my book touches readers and makes them smile is ... an amazing feeling. And I may be slightly reflective right now.

Announcements: Summer Break and Self-Publishing/Writing Ask Me Anything

As I said last week I also have so many plans for this podcast. I want to work on the website which would include resources, the ups and downs of self-publishing, the A to Z shorter episodes, and do a few more interviews and tell you more about what works for me and my writing and self-publishing career.

And to do this, a lot of things need to happen. And so this year, A Self-Published Author's Diary will take a summer break. The diary and I will be back on your favorite podcasting/streaming platform in September.

Self-publishing reflection: planning and goals (Vella, novellas, marketing and more...)

I almost titled this episode: "How to achieve your self-publishing goals without feeling overwhelmed." But dear Diary that would have been false advertisement as while I'm trying to adapt my systems and plans to fit my goals, I'm still in the process and it does feel overwhelming from times to times. Do I have coping mechanisms when it does so thatI can nmake sure that it also doesn't take away from my plan?. Yes, I do but still... I'm not yet at the "achieve your goals without feeling overwhelmed" stage. I am trying to get there. First steps: planning and goals... For the first time, I recorded this episode live on TikTok (before editing it for the podcast). Today, I talk about writing using the Pomodoro method again, my Kindle Vella bonus (more than I expected). Plus, I share an excerpt of the audiobook of Trust Me, Trust Me More and more...

Ep. 54 - How one of my TikTok videos went viral on Instagram and using Amazon ads as an indie author...

In today's episode, I explain how one of my TikTok videos went viral on Instagram and using Amazon ads as an indie author.

For that video to go viral (it has more than 26000 views) which is very uncommon for me, I followed a few steps. That video also resulted in sales and pages read. My book went from sitting at 700000 to about 70000 and then climbed a bit higher and stayed around 100000 for a few days without any ads.

When it comes to the Amazon Ads, my French ads seem to be doing well. I'll keep you updated.

While Valentine's Day was a nice reminder to cherish and enjoy all the little and big moments and also a reminder to infuse those moments into my romance novels, it's also been a challenging week writing-wise. So, it's a reminder for writers out there to keep swimming (or writing) while making sure to be gentle with yourselves.

Ep. 49 - Inspiration, drafting, changing writing spots and writing tools ...

Today's episode almost got called, "How to write like Nora Roberts & Beverly Jenkins" but I thought this might be a bit deceiving... The main topics of this episode are: the reorganization of my office, finding new spots to write and using new tools (such as Alphasmart), leaning into my process as well as developing new systems. So... quite a lot of topics covered. :-) Mentioned in this episode: Beverly Jenkins: https://beverlyjenkins.net/ & Nora Roberts: https://noraroberts.com/ Nora Roberts' note on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/notes/271013907581683/ Interview with Nora Roberts in The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jan/30/nora-roberts-novels-crime-suspense-romance Forbes' article - How Romance Novelist Beverly Jenkins Brings History To Life On The Page : https://www.forbes.com/sites/rachelkramerbussel/2021/03/30/how-romance-novelist-beverly-jenkins-brings-history-to-life-on-the-page/?sh=3ba7e4277c5f Let It Go When You Love It – My Imaginary Friends: Episode 152: https://lpenelope.com/2022/01/let-it-go-when-you-love-it-my-imaginary-friends-episode-152/ BookBub 5 Steps to Writing a Killer Elevator Pitch for Your Book: https://insights.bookbub.com/steps-to-writing-a-killer-elevator-pitch-for-your-book/ (and more) As always: Ask me a question (per email: authorelodienowodazkij AT gmail.com or by leaving me a voicemail: https://anchor.fm/elodie-nowodazkij/message)  Follow A Self-Published Author's Diary on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aselfpublishedauthorsdiary  Visit my website: www.elodienowodazkij.com
