Are you wasting your time blaming and complaining?
We’ve all done it. We complain about the traffic, we complain about our boss and coworkers, we complain about what the people in our lives forgot to do. But WHAT DOES IT GET US? Not a darn thing except time lost that we can never get back. The same goes for blaming others. It doesn’t change a thing—literally. When we fail to take responsibility for our part, we don’t improve and grow. Healing Blended Families
Do you struggle to keep peace in your home? Are you trying to make it work in a blended family? If you're a step-parent, or a foster, adoptive, or relative caregiver for kids that you didn't bring into the world, you're going to want to hear this. Debbie Bailey Ausburn was a social worker (and single) when she decided to become a foster parent to teenagers. Over time, Debbie went back to school and became a lawyer. She was a prosecutor of crimes against children before she moved into defending the good people and organizations that care for children who have been traumatized. Her experience in all those roles prepared her for marrying a man who had 5 children. Debbie has created a blended family, and says, "Being someone's Plan B can be pretty wonderful." Look for Debbie's book, to be released later this year, Healing Blended Families. For more on Debbie, go to www.debbieausburn.com. Succeed Because of What You’ve Been Through Step 4
This is where it gets fun! Step 4 is where we learn to articulate the good things about ourselves that we’ve extracted from our painful situations. No longer do we lower our gaze and shamefully admit what we’ve gone through. We don’t have to talk about what we’ve been through at all. But what we do talk about are the good character traits, learned abilities, and perspective that we acquired as we went through adversity. When we can look someone in the eyes, and unashamedly explain who we are and what we’re capable of doing that is of value in the world, we are the ones who get hired, who get the business loan, the patent, the partnership, or the relationships. I hate this part, but there’s no way around it. If you don’t give yourself permission to properly grieve what you’ve lost, what you hoped for, and the fantasies you had about it that were never going to be, your grief will show up in your attitudes, emotions, and your physical health. The key is to grieve for a time and then to move on so that you don’t get stuck forever in grief. If you get stuck, you lose the good future that is your destiny. Here’s what one couple did to help tens of thousands of kids who have been abused
In this episode we hear from Wayne Tesch who at 12 years old had a vision of helping children. That vision became reality 24 years later when he and his wife, Diane set up the first Royal Family Kids Camp. That was in 1985. Royal Family Kids have taken tens of thousands of foster kids to camp to create moments that matter, to show them what healthy family interaction looks like, to give them a chance to experience joy, peace, and unconditional love from volunteers who are there because they want to be there, not because they are paid to be there. Royal Family Kids Camps and Clubs are now in 13 countries and engage over 17,000 volunteers in over 2 million volunteer hours every year. The good that has come from RFK, cannot be measured, and it’s not just for the kids—it’s just as life changing to the volunteers who have become foster parents, adoptive parents, social workers, and have been immeasurably enriched by giving their time to help children aged 6-12 who have been unspeakably abused. Without focus, that is nearly impossible. #focus #achieve #succeed #purpose #meaning #priorities #live #love #survive #thrive
