As we wrap up the series, Lauren and Payton want to equip you with the knowledge and skills to be an ally and advocate for gender queer folks. In this episode, they discuss micro-affirmations, acknowledging pronouns, and enacting change on intimate, local, and policy levels. The internet has had a unique role for the queer community, including nonbinary gender. Albeit clumsy at times, it has been an integral space of self expression, discovery, and connection. Zenon and Phoenix log-in to talk about the evolution of the world wide web and its impact on gender construction.

How do nonbinary individuals exist in establishments such as healthcare, education, and the law? Phoenix and Lauren dive into these institutions and more. Hear experiences from our panelists' and how Quidditch (yes, the sport from Harry Potter) is critiquing dominant sport culture.

Nonbinary may be a newer term to this generation, but there is historical evidence of gender nonconformance worldwide. Lauren and Phoenix review some of these identities, how they functioned in their respective society’s, and how Eurocentric, colonizer narratives have erased or overlooked trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) identities. Listen along as we uncover gender variance found in history.

The use of the term “nonbinary” multiplied tenfold from 2013 to 2019 and continues to increase. In this episode, Payton and Zenon examine the origin of the term and its emergence during the last decade. They connect the social and cultural conditions that facilitated this phenomena and supported its ascent. Learn about about the creation of the nonbinary flag and “Nonbinary Peoples Day”.
