Engage Veterans—Interview with Kathy Gallowitz

Engage Veterans—Interview with Kathy Gallowitz

When you think of Veterans, do you think of heroes? Do you think of people who voluntarily agreed to defend you, your livelihood, and champion your way of life? Have you ever thought about being a champion for Veterans—both in the not-military workforce and in not-military life? Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Kathy Gallowitz and I talk about how being a Veteran Champion and engaging Veterans in the workforce helps organizations become strong, remain strong, and seize amazing skills, strengths, and employees. Retired Lt. Colonel Kathy Gallowitz grew up as a Navy "brat" who then served nearly 30 years as an Air Force Officer. She also is an Army spouse. Kathy is the Founder & CEO of Vanguard Veteran, LLC, author of _Beyond "Thank You For your Service," The Veteran Champion Handbook for Civilians_, and has masters degrees in both Nursing and Political Science. As an award-winning businesswoman with first-hand experience hiring Veterans, Kathy coaches employers how to excel with hiring and retaining Veteran talent in ways that strengthens their workforce. Her “Veteran Talent Academy” equips employers to find, hire, and leverage Veterans’ skillsets. Kathy also equips volunteer faith community leaders to build Military Ministries to cultivate mutual support, a sense of belonging and spiritual resiliency for military-connected people.

Have you ever wondered if your company story had any actual value? How about the stories of your employees? Have you seen the value of your own story? Can all these stories fit together and make a difference?

Engage Mentors—Interview with Mike Boccia

Engage Mentors—Interview with Mike Boccia

This episode originally aired 4/19/2023.

How many mentors have you had in your life? How many mentors have you had simultaneously? Have you ever considered having multiple mentors for different areas in your life all at the same time?

In today's episode, Mike Boccia of iDecide talks about mentors and other routes to success in employment, leadership, and business.

Mike Boccia has been in Sales and Marketing for over 25 years. He’s been called a “serial entrepreneur” since starting his first business, landscaping, at 15. Then came a limo company while attending Hofstra University, a nightclub at 21, a restaurant at 23, and the list goes on. Mike really honed his sales skills as a licensed advisor with Transamerica Financial Advisors, where he had hundreds of clients in several states (without ever having a customer complaint!). Other reps saw Mike’s success and started asking for his help, and of course, he was happy to oblige. Eventually, he began opening successful financial offices and training advisors to work in them. After seeing the rapid growth, Transamerica soon had Mike speaking at conferences, flying to other offices to train, and attending high-level meetings to discuss the future of the firm. Mike eventually left the financial industry and ventured into the technology space, where he founded iDecide Interactive.

Mike is now an author, speaker, coach, CEO, and most importantly, a father to his 2 beautiful daughters.

Engage Neurodiversity—Interview with Jenn Grindeland

This episode originally aired 2/23/2023.

Have you ever wondered what leadership, self-advocacy, strategic communication, time management, and organization have to do with neurodiversity and a company culture that embraces it? In today's episode, Dr. Catherine interviews Jenn Grindeland, founder and CEO of The Working Well.

After experiencing two traumatic brain injuries while working as part of a team, Jenn witnessed how confused her supervisors and peers were with how to handle her neurodivergent ways of working. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership, and experience as a yoga and mindfulness teacher, she saw how her unique experience and education could illuminate a new pathway for companies to create more awareness and inclusion in their teams. She now teaches teams leadership and communication skills that are thoughtfully designed to support equity for and inclusion of neurodivergent and invisibly disabled employees. Through this work, all team members, from neurotypical to neurodiverse, benefit from improved culture, productivity, and retention.
