#46 | Meet Your Lecturer 3 - Becky Selwyn

Manas, Saif and Yassin speak with Dr. Becky Selwyn, a senior lecturer in thermodynamics and researcher in engineering education. Alongside her award winning teaching work, she undertakes pedagogic research investigating ways of improving student engagement in their learning. Read more about Becky's University of Bristol 2021 Teaching Award on the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching blog https://bilt.online/becky-selwyn/ . In this episode, we focus on her journey into engineering and the importance of her role as an educator. Becky also gives us insight into how teaching is prepared and carried out by lecturers and explores some of her work in her research field.

#42 | Meet Your Lecturer 2 - James Norman and Dominika Malkowska

#42 | Meet Your Lecturer 2 - James Norman and Dominika Malkowska

Manas and Saif talk to James Norman and Dominika Malkowska, about the future of sustainable civil engineering. James is an award-winning engineer and teacher, he has designed landmark buildings and developed innovative teaching that combines practice with learning. He’s written several books for engineers and students making sustainable building a reality. Dominika is a PhD student, under James' supervision, researching the use of Bamboo as a sustainable building material.

We talk to James and Dominika about the role civil engineers play in solving the climate crisis, focussing on the materials that are used in sustainable building. They also share their experiences working in industry and the challenges they overcame progressing to academic research and teaching.

For more on regenerative design, James recommends the following book and podcast: https://www.flourish-book.com/

Dominika's papers on Bamboo connections are available here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0950061822016415, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0950061822030148
