I was a little skeptical of an inexpensive “shopping cart” program because I have been burned before – with WordPress plugins that were hard to configure, difficult to use and a few that were unsupported and unreliable.  This one impressed me for a few reasons: First of all, you don’t have to install it on a WordPress site – in fact you don’t even have to host it on your own server – it is hosted for you at no additional charge!  Also, the developer designed it for his wife -- who is not a computer geek like he is -- so it was specifically designed to be easy to use.

I remember when the first CRM system I used cost a one time charge of $30 – now it is more along the lines of $200 - $500 per month! Some of the more popular systems I am referring to include Pipedrive, Salesmate, Zoho, Clickfunnels and others.

If you have studied marketing for any period of time, you will know that the headline of your webpage or promotional material and the subject line of your emails is the most important element of your marketing.

I do have a simple “chat” widget on my websites that allow people to give me their contact information and ask questions and I am able to both automate responses to the most common questions they may have or I can reply to them by text on their phone. It’s a good system and it works for me and my particular business, but I have to admit that what I am about to show you is more impressive, is really slick and comes across as much more professional...

These are two related tools that I am currently using for an upcoming event.

One is a social media tool that will allow you to create memes or images with text on them and the other is a companion program that will allow you to schedule them to go out to your social media channels on a schedule that you determine.

I have a friend who wanted to add a QR code to her marketing materials and she asked me how she can create one inexpensively.  I sent her the link to this program where she can create one for free. It will allow you to create a QR code for a URL, a vCard, one that opens Plain Text, one that will send you an email or text, one that takes people to your twitter page, -- even ones for WiFi access and Bitcoin!  Best of all -- it will create all of those for free!

You can't put a video itself into an email, so instead,  the usual process is to have a static "still" image that people can click on that takes them to the video, but the closest thing to having an actual video embedded into an email, is to have a moving image – just 4-10 seconds of a video as a GIF image that can act as a teaser creating the illusion of a video with a button that encourages people top click on the image to get to open the video.

Aside from inserting it into an email, it is also great to use as your video “thumbnail” on a webpage.

I don’t know if you have tried creating a video course or promotional videos, but even at their best, there are pauses and transitions that you really wish weren’t there.

I was introduced to this online video editing software recently and I have to say I am very impressed. I have been holding off on mentioning this software – not because is isn’t good, but because it is so good that I really want to do it justice.

This is an alternative to Zapier. If you are not familiar with Zapier, it is a service that allows you to integrate one software, program, tool, or service with another. For example, when you add a new contact to your Customer database, you can have Zapier automatically add them to an autoresponder series in your autoresponder system at the same time.

Prior to systems like Zapier, you would have had to hire a programmer to custom design away to integrate two or more separate programs. Programs like Zapier make it simple to do on your own.

Zapier has been the leader in this integration field and they do have a free version, but in many of their plans including the free one, Zapier does not include some Premium integration -- one popular integration in particular is "Facebook Lead Ads" integrations

So you want to try reaching out to a new company contact but don’t have their email address and can’t locate it (maybe the gatekeeper won’t reveal that email address to you), then you may have to take a guess at what their email address could be...

You might assume that their email address follows the same format at the previous person’s email address – perhaps their first initial followed by their last name at "companyname.com" – but that is not always the case. 

So to save time, this free service will allow you to enter the email address you are considering and it will check to see if it is a verified email address.

Emails are “fleeting” documents. Once they are opened, unless it is something that someone wants to take action on at that exact moment, it risks never being seen or thought of again.

Why would you need a URL "shortener"?

If you want to include a webpage that has a LONG URL into an email or text, it would be unsightly and hard if people had to somehow “type” it out or write it down. Also, if you are posting on Twitter with the limited number of characters they allow you to use and you wanted to send someone to something like your Facebook event page – like the one I am looking at right now for the Texas Bluebonnet Festival, the URL am looking at is 405 characters long! – It wouldn’t even fit on a tweet that only allows you 280 characters!...

I keep thinking that many of the programs I use regularly people already know about – but just because I know about them and use them doesn’t mean that others know about them or use them as well.

I was introduced to this program from software programmer who wanted me to send him a quick video of a problem I was having with their software. When I first tried it out, I was impressed on how easy it was to use. 

Video files can be enormous, and although I have video software that allows me to record screen shares and personal videos whenever I want to, what I like about this program is that everything is done online and the videos don’t take up valuable space on my hard drive.

I think in today’s day and age, an autoresponder system for your business is a MUST. In the same amount of time it takes to write one email to a prospect, you can send that same email to hundreds – or thousands of your prospects efficiently.

If you are not already adding it to your marketing mix, you should consider adding postal mail to your marketing as well. Unlike email messages, Flyers and postcards can be filed away where they can easily be retrieved later – and even put on bulletin boards and refrigerators waiting for the proper time to take action!

I often mail letters and flyers to my prospects, but only after I have spoken to them on the phone first to determine if they are a viable prospect.  The stationary is relatively inexpensive to print as is the full color flyer…but believe it or not; the most expensive printing cost is the ENVELOPE!

To give you an idea of the costs, doing a quick search on the internet, 500 sheets of stationary (printed as “matte” flyers) can cost $31.80.  --  500 printed envelopes can cost $166.99 – 4 times the cost of the letterhead!

Now you can certainly buy a box of blank, plain white envelopes from a stationary store for about $30 and run them through your printer mail-merging the address perhaps with a logo as well, but that looks “home made” and screams “junk mail”.  Here's a great economical solution that looks slick and professional!...

I was trying to assemble a simple 30 second video for a web project I was working on. Using copyrighted music can get you banned from the platforms like YouTube, Facebook and others and can even open your business up to litigation. As much as you would like to use that music – don’t. You are opening yourself up to a lot of restrictions and may have to end up having to re-record your presentations because you will find that it will not be accepted on major platforms.

The way around this is to use what is called Royalty Free music. 

If you do a search for Royalty Free music on the internet, you will find a lot of available sites. Some of the popular ones include “Storyblocks”, “Soundcloud”, “Audio Jungle” – and even Adobe has a royalty free archive – but don’t be mistaken and think that the music that you find on any of those sites are actually “free” – they charge you for each song that you wish to download and the price can range from $30 to hundreds of dollars per song!. Even the site called “Free Music Archive” charges for each of their songs!

So where do you go to actually find Royalty Free music that is actually free? -- Want to know my “go-to” source for great, completely free music to use in your presentations? It is not anywhere where you would expect to find it!...

I think one of the most frustrating things is to find out about a live event, a meeting or a Facebook live presentation that I would like to attend, and then not be able to easily put it on my calendar so that I can see it on my schedule and plan for it! And I think I other people may feel the same way.

Most webinar programs have an “add-to-calendar” button built into them (although I have been shocked that some “high-end” webinar programs do not!), but if you are scheduling a meeting with a client, a Facebook live event or an in-person event at your company you may not have a button available to you to allow people to add the event easily to their calendar.

If you haven’t checked lately – webinar programs can be expensive! Go-to-webinar: starts at $109/month.  Webinar Jam and Everwebinar cost $499/year! That’s a LOT of money – especially if you are just beginning to experiment with webinars and may only present a few a year.

There was a time when it was not important to have an SSL certificate – it was the wild west days of the internet. But when spammers and unscrupulous people started taking advantage of people online by stealing ID’s, credit card numbers and personal information, it became more and more important to “secure” sites with an SSL certificate and most people will not continue to a site that is not secure (which may keep you from getting visitors…or business).

Some hosting platforms have started providing SSL certificates at no additional charge – and I commend them for that, but there are still many hosting providers that do not -- or they charge you either monthly or yearly for an SSL certificate and the cost can range from $9.99/month through Network Solutions to yearly fees ranging from $40 - $120 or more!

This is a program that I use all the time! It’s simple to install and it’s a BIG timesaver – especially when you find yourself sending out the same information to people repeatedly!

This program that allows you to create a “hotkey” by assigning keystrokes of your choosing (something you would not accidentally type, like “#li” or “//oo”) and the program will type out a pre-written sentence, paragraph — or even an entire page of text for you instead!

For example, for my book “ON YOUR OWN, BUT NOT ALONE: 50 FREE and Low-Cost Resources for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses!” I just type “//oyo” and it types out the full book title and the URL where people can purchase the book -- saving me  153 keystrokes!

I have been using this Chrome extension for years now and found it extremely useful -- It’s such a time saver. 

I use it all the time to send useful links to friends and colleagues and I use it most of all to send links to myself that I want to review later. It is so easy to forget sites that I want to review later, and sometimes after searching through a website, you find the page buried in a website that you want to visit again later and it has a ridiculously long and complicated URL that would take you forever to write down. So with this add-in, I just send the URL to myself and when I review my inbox at a later time, the link is sitting there waiting for me.

Last week I mentioned that I like to audio record webinars and online presentations so that I can listen to them rather than watch them at a more convenient time to me  – like listening to them when I am driving in my car, or at the airport or on a plane instead of wasting my most valuable business time watching webinars.

Although I audio record many of the webinars so I can listen to them later (see episode #108) there are a few instances where I do really need to see the presentation – especially if it is a demonstration of a new software program or something pertaining to web design or graphic layouts.

Research is a vital part of any business. I read business books and listen to webinars and online trainings a lot!

How many times have to tried calling people and couldn’t reach them? And then perhaps they try calling you back and you were out of the office? It’s frustrating playing “phone tag” and it wastes everyone’s time.
