Episode 158 - Becoming A.D.
The guys discuss how they each found hardcore and how Becoming A.D. came together. We spend a considerable time hearing about the state of the Belgian and European hardcore scenes, which are going through a post-pandemic renaissance like many scenes in the United States. This is a great episode for people how like European hardcore; the guys introduce us to a number of lesser known bands from Belgium that are worth checking out.

Episode 152 - Hereditary
On episode 152 of the Hardcore Archive Podcast, Greg and Josh interview Nate DelGallego from Hereditary.
Hereditary is a newer band from San Diego, CA that will appeal to fans of heavy hardcore and beatdown hardcore.
Nate shares his hardcore origin story; he is a second generation punk rocker who was first introduced to skate punk through his father. Later came to find hardcore through his relationship with an older cousin, which he then shared with his brother and Hereditary band mate, Jacob.
We hear about Hereditary's formation and their rapid rise in popularity in the San Diego hardcore scene. Nate covers some of the highlights of shows Hereditary has played with bands like Death Before Dishonor, Missing Link, and Sunami.
Nate is also interested in hip hop and creates beats in addition to playing in Hereditary. Josh and Nate discuss recent trends in hip hop and their mutual love of the genre.

Episode 151 - Hannah Mountain (Harm Reduction, Recovery & Buddhism)
Hannah is an addiction councilor and yoga instructor from Syracuse, NY. Greg and Hannah discuss their experiences recovering from substance use disorder and mental illness, and their shared interest in hardcore and Buddhist philosophy.
This episode focuses on the concept of harm reduction, and the role it plays in recovery. Hannah and Greg also discuss the mind-body connection, how trauma disrupts it, and how yoga and weightlifting have helped them both repair it and get 'back into their body.' Buddhist philosophies and how the concept of reincarnation relates to psychology is discussed at length. Greg expounds upon how Buddhism, physics, and the ultimate nature of the universe may be related.

Episode 150 - Spit Truth
We hear about how Vennie made the transition from an angsty teenage metalhead to a more positive outlook through hardcore punk, and how his early life experiences and childhood adversity influenced his love of hardcore.
Vennie speaks at length about how his career as a therapist intersects with hardcore, and the importance of maintaining one's own mental health. Greg and Vennie discuss mental health struggles, PTSD, and their own experiences with therapy.

On episode 146, Josh and Greg join Brendo, vocalist for AllxIn.
AllxIn is an old school, positive hardcore band from Adelaide, Australia that will appeal to fans of Carry On and Youth of Today. Brendo catches us up on some recent lineup changes, the band's formation and history, their recent full length "What Remains," and their experience touring in Indonesia.
We also hear about the connections AllxIn shares with bands in southeast Asia via their relationship with Set the Fire Records, and some of the similarities and differences in the hardcore communities in the US, Australia, and Indonesia.
This is a great episode for fans of international hardcore, with Brendo highlighting a lot of bands from his region of the world that most of our US listeners will probably not be familiar with.

Episode 144 - Mike Jeffers & Rob Antonucci (Union)
Mike Jeffers and Rob Antonucci from Union join Greg and Josh on episode 144 of the Hardcore Archive Podcast.
Union was active in the Buffalo, NY hardcore scene between 1994 and 1997, and released music on Ferret Records and Knowledge Records. They also toured throughout the north east, playing shows with other Buffalo bands of the era like Snapcase and Despair.
Mike recounts the history of band, including his experience putting the group together after moving to Buffalo from New York City, notable shows and tours throughout out the lifespan of the band, recording at Salad Days Studio and Watchmen Studio, as well as how they came to be affiliated with Ferret Records.
Rob and Mike discuss how Union provided a foundation for their subsequent hardcore, punk and metal bands, as well as the enduring influence 90s hardcore acts like Union had on Buffalo hardcore.
Rob and Mike also catch us up on their upcoming reunion show with Integrity and Despair on December 30, 2023, and the retrospective release of their recordings which is now available on Classic Core Records and music streaming services.

Episode 143 - Charles Cure (Spiritkiller, Endicott, Hush)
Josh and Greg interview Charles Cure from Albany, NY's @spiritkiller_hc on episode 143. Spiritkiller is classic 90s style hardcore with detectable post-hardcore and metal influences, and will appeal to fans of Integrity, Helmet and Orange 9mm.
Charles has also been in a number of notable hardcore bands over the last twenty years including Endicott, Hush, Crisis Actor, Jaws, and Hush.
Charles discusses his introduction to the mid-90s hardcore scene in Albany, NY and his experiences booking shows in the small, rural college town of Potsdam, NY. We hear about the formation of Endicott, how the band came to be affiliated with Equal Vision Records, and some of Charles' experiences touring with the band in the early 2000s.
Charles spends most of the time discussing Spiritkiller, their writing and recording process, some of guitarist Tom's former bands (You & I, the Assistant, This Ship Will Sink), and their EP released on @protaginc.

Fight Like Hell was active in the early to mid-2000s and toured extensively throughout the US, sharing stages with bands like @deathbeforedishonorbhc. Joey talks about his experience booking tours in the MySpace era, notable Fight Like Hell shows, and the evolution of the Denver and Colorado hardcore scene over the last twenty years.
Joey discusses a past Fight Like Hell reunion show, and their upcoming soldout reunion show in December 2023 with @timexheist and @mindforceny. This episode pairs well with episode 132 with Mark from TimexHeist.

Episode 140 - Mark Scondotto (Shutdown)
On this episode of the Hardcore Archive Podcast Josh and Greg interview Mark Scondotto (@markshutdown) from Shutdown (@shutdownnyhc).
Mark discusses his early life growing up in Brooklyn, and his introduction to hardcore punk through his older brothers. We cover the formation of Shutdown and the influence Mark's friend and classmate @justin.brannan (@indecisionnyhc guitar player, New York City Councilmember) had on the band's first songwriting efforts. Mark also talks about the important relationship he and the band had with Ray "Raybeez" Barbieri from Warzone, and how his mentorship helped the band gain a foothold in the New York hardcore scene and get signed to @victoryrecords.
The interview also covers a number of notable experiences Mark and the band had including touring Europe, playing the Raybeez memorial show, and the recording of the LP "Against All Odds." Mark also shares a surprising and hilarious story about how the band met the cast of Dawson's Creek while on tour in North Carolina, and @katieholmes' subsequent appearance at a Shutdown show.
Mark discusses Shutdown's reformation and the band's recent activities including their appearance this weekend at Off Limits Fest (@offlimitsmx) in Mexico City, their December appearance at Festival 100% Bogota Hardcore (@100hcbogota.festival) in Columbia, and their forthcoming record on @equalvision Records. Mark also shares how fatherhood has influenced the band members, his lyrics and their outlook on life.

Episode 139 - Zion's Blood
On episode 139 Josh and Greg interview Zion's Blood.
Zion's Blood is an up-and-coming band from Connecticut that will appeal to fans of metal influenced NYHC bands like Leeway and Crown of Thornz. The guys from Zion's Blood are all currently enrolled in college in various music related fields of study, and their technical proficiency is on full display in their studio recordings which can be found at the link in their Instagram bio.
Greg and Josh cover the usual questions like how they came to find hardcore, their musical influences, and lyrical content. Episode 138 - Coalition
Coalition was a hardcore band from Michigan in the early 2000s that toured actively until they broke up in 2004. They released records through Smorgasbord, Martyr, and Fight Fire With Fire Records, and had a number of notable connections to some of the founding figures in the hardcore music community. Coalition played Rochester a few times so we discussed those shows at length, and a particularly notorious Coalition show where Porcelly from Judge/Youth of Today made a guest appearance.
We also discussed Alex's earlier band Varsity, their spilt 12" with Bloodpact, and their early touring experiences. Alex is also currently in a few bands, including Hellmouth and Temple of Void, which can be found on all the popular steaming services.

Episode 137 - Brian Rau (Future Cult Records, Black Azalea, Standfast, Tears of Isaiah)
On episode 137, Josh and Greg are joined by Brian Rau from Standfast, Tears of Isaiah, and Black Azalea.
During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Fairport, NY had and active and vibrant hardcore punk music scene, which produced a significant number of notable bands from that era. Brian discusses his introduction to the music and people that established that scene, and his experiences playing in bands as a teenager and young adult.
We cover his involvement with bands like Standfast, Prepare for War, His Own Hero/Tears of Isaiah, and Arson Ember, all of which can be hard at the Rochester hardcore History SoundCloud archive at the link in the podcast Instagram bio.

Josh and Greg sit down with Damien Moyal in episode 135 and discuss his prolific involvement with hardcore.
For the past 30 years Damien has been involved with a number of significant hardcore bands including As Friends Rust, Morning Again, Culture, Shai Hulud, and Bird of Ill Omen.
Damien discusses how he came to be involved with hardcore, the formation of some of his most popular bands, and differences and similarities in the writing process for each band. We spend time talking about the upcoming As Friends Rust album, "Any Joy" available on August 18th on End Hits Records. The conversation includes Damien's early experiences touring and his more recent experience playing larger festivals. We also discuss how hardcore relates to and influences our experiences with fatherhood, mental health, and growing older.

Absolved are from Salt Lake City and are one of many bands there that has been helping to revitalize their scene in recent years. Absolved are currently on a southwest tour with Manadalore. Absolved also released one of Josh's favorite EPs so far this year.

Episode 127 - Threshold
For Episode 127, we are featuring our first Australian band.
This episode features a conversation that Josh and Greg had with Tenaya and Sam from Threshold a few weeks back. Threshold are a new band out of Melbourne, Australia, that released a 3 song demo earlier this year. We talk about the formation of the band, what they have planned, as well as what the scene is like in Australia. After the episode, stick around to hear a song from Threshold.

Episode 126 - Anthony Burke (Magnitude, Seed of Pain, Moment of Truth)
Anthony is in a ton of bands currently so we briefly talked about each band while getting to know Anthony a little bit. The bands Anthony currently is a member of are Magnitude, Seed Of Pain, Envision, Moment of Truth, and Be All End All. Anthony also has a solo project named Charnel Grounds.
We touched on Anthony's recent production work at Burke's Dungeon, where he has been recording a lot of bands lately.
You can catch Magnitude on tour with Drain in the United States this summer. Magnitude and Envision will also be touring Japan and Southeast Asia in May.

Skylar talks about growing up in a small western New York town, his introduction to extreme music, his early attempts organizing DIY shows, and how he came to join Such Gold. We spend the bulk of the interview hearing about the latest tour and recording updates from Taking Meds and Who Decides including his experiences recording at the legendary God City Studio. Evan discusses how he discovered hardcore while growing up in New York's Southern Tier, his experiences attending local punk and hardcore shows in Olean and Wellsville, and how he eventually came to become involved with Buffalo Hardcore. Evan discusses the post-pandemic surge of interest in hardcore, the current state of the Buffalo's hardcore scene, and new bands that have emerged from the city. We also get a thorough overview of significant bands and people who have had a hand in shaping the hardcore community over the past 15 years.

For Episode 123, Greg and Josh are welcoming Brandon DiFabio back to the podcast.
Brandon is back to talk about the recording that Pure Bliss should be releasing soon after this episode drops. Pure Bliss will be starting a two week east coast tour with Regions starting on April 15 as well. We also talk about the current state of hardcore and Josh does his best to say what bands he doesn't like to get the podcast canceled.

Episode 122 - Andrew "Thorp" King (Thorp Records, Failure Rules!)
Episode 122 features a conversation that Josh had with Andrew "Thorp" King on March 9th.
Many of our listeners will be familiar with the tremendous output that Andy has had with Thorp Records and Sailor's Grave Records over the last two decades. We talked quite a bit about Andy's time in the hardcore scene on this episode.
The main reason we brought Andy on the podcast now was to talk about his recently released book "Failure Rules." Andy discussed with Josh how he put the book together. While covering the five rules of failure in his book, Andy keeps things interesting by connecting these rules to pop culture icons as well as many people from the hardcore community.

Episode 121 - Chip Walbert (Destro, Where Fear and Weapons Meet, Until the End)
On Episode 121 Josh and Greg welcome Chip Walbert to the podcast for the first time.
Chip has been in several bands in South Florida dating back to the mid 90s. Some of these bands are: Destro, Where Fear And Weapons Meet, Until The End, and All Hell Breaks Loose.
Our conversation touches on these bands, South Florida Hardcore, 1990s and early 2000s Hardcore, as well as Chip being a DJ for several years. Chip was also one of the creators of Stuck In The Past (xstuckinthepastx.blogspot.com). The site is great for finding obscure hardcore releases.

Episode 120 - Andy Messer (Fugitive, Barricade)
Episode 120 features a conversation that Josh had with Andy Messer recorded on February 19.
The interview covers bands that Andy has been in over the last two decades. These bands are: ANS, Stymie, Occult Detective Club, Razorbumps, Fugitive, and Barricade.
Fugitive recently played LDB Fest in Louisville, KY and have a new record coming out in April on 20 Buck Spin called Maniac. Barricade also have a record coming out in May on Dirt Cult Records. That is one of Josh's favorite releases of the year so far. We're including links to both records below. Andy is our first guest from Texas on the podcast. Episode 119 - Andrew Stankevich (St. Joe's House of Hospitality)
For around a decade, Andrew was heavily involved in activism in Rochester. Andrew helped create a Food Not Bombs chapter in Rochester and he was responsible for St Joe's House of Hospitality hosting monthly benefit shows. This also lead to our city having its own all ages show space, which mainly served as a home base for Food Not Bombs at the time.
Currently, Andrew resided in the DC area and is practicing sky breathing meditation at The Art of Living in DC.

Godslove is a technical hardcore/metal band with mathcore influences that will appeal to anyone who likes polyrhythms and blast beats in their extreme music. Andrew and Mike discuss how they got involved with hardcore and the bands that have influenced Godslove and their previous musical projects.

Episode 116 - Tino Valpa
Tino recently released a solo album called Live or be Lived all Over. The conversation centers around the creation of this album and everything involved with it. Tino has also been vocalist of The Cryptics for many years. We touched on this, as well as his experiences playing with Battalion of Saints, and many other bands.
We ended the conversation by talking about nutrition. Tino is an SOS-Free vegan. This part of the conversation was especially fascinating for Josh and it should be for other vegans as well.

Episode 115 - Alex Jones (Undeath), Part 1
Alex discusses how he got into extreme music and his involvement with Rochester hardcore. We also cover his previous band, Druse, their local success, and their experience embarking on DIY tours.
The bulk of this interview focuses on Undeath, their formation, and meteoric rise in popularity during the pandemic lockdown. Alex shares stories about their tours with a number of significant metal and hardcore acts.

Episode 114- Andy Williams (The Funeral, Eternal Youth)
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Andy played in a number of bands in the Syracuse region. Some of these bands include Eternal Youth, Darker Day Tomorrow, The Funeral, and We The People.
We also talked about Andy's time growing up in Connecticut and eventually finding hardcore music there. A few of the other topics we touched on are fanzines, the connection between Rochester and Syracuse, and Andy talks about his time living in New York City for the last several years.

Episode 113 - Sarah Miller (Always Late Never Lost)
If you have been to a hardcore, punk, or metal show in western New York during the last 12 months you have probably noticed Sarah capturing footage of bands using vintage VHS video equipment. You have probably also come across the product of her efforts on Always Late Never Lost, her Instagram and YouTube accounts.
Sarah discusses how she got into hardcore and punk, the equipment and process she uses to record bands as well as how she came to develop this unique hobby.

Episode 112 - Randy Carncross (Thirsty, Project Grizzly)
In 2003, Randy relocated to Japan for what was initially supposed to be one year. Randy has now lived in Japan for close to twenty years.
We talked about his experiences in Buffalo and Japan, including his current band Thirsty. We also talk about how Randy turned a hobby of craft beer into a career in Japan. Stick around at the end of the episode to hear the song "Be Happy" from Thirsty.

Episode 110 - Devin Boudreaux (Rejection Pact)
Rejection Pact is a band that I first noticed in early 2020. I've been wanting to get their vocalist Devin on the podcast since I first started interviewing people and I was just waiting for the right time. Rejection Pact recently released their debut LP "Can We Wait" on Safe Inside Records.
I had the chance to talk with Devin about all of the work that went in to releasing the LP. We also talked about the current state of hardcore, Boise Hardcore, and Rejection Pact's plans for 2023. At the end of the episode you can hear the song Failed Animal from Rejection Pact.
