Entre Nous

Entre Nous

By Stephanie Lee and Marcus Wermuth
Entre Nous is a collection of conversations about the messy, glorious, baffling things in life. Each episode is raw, unfiltered, awkward, genuine, and most likely nerdy — just like us.

Join us as we think out loud about what it means to be human.

How to have Hard Conversations 😫
Your palms sweat, your heart races, your mind floods with "What if? What if? What if?"... That's what hard conversations can feel like. And we've ALL had them.  2020 was Steph's year of learning how to have hard conversations. So, in this episode, Steph and Marcus have a conversation about hard conversations. Natch! These are the tough ones about relationships, work -- anything in life that means something to us. And they're hard precisely because there's something at stake for us. So how do we meet these head on? How do we have hard conversations without falling to pieces?  Listen out for: The Jedi-like exercise that Marcus is learning, our two stages of preparation for hard conversations, how to have compassionate conversations, Steph's reasons why she doesn't resort to hyper-logical arguments in hard conversations anymore (even though she always wins those 😅). Have you had a hard conversation recently? What did you learn about yourself?  Head over at our Instagram (@entrenous.podcast) and share your story with us in a comment or a DM! Or Tweet at us! Tag us if you share this podcast with your favorite friends -- we love to hear how the conversation resonates with you! Also, check out Steph's IGTV on Why Hard Conversations are a Win-Win.

On Switching Careers (And Why We'd Do It Again!)
Did you know that Steph used to be a teacher? Or that Marcus studied Electrical Engineering? Between the both of us, we've switched careers multiple times and we're better for it.  In this episode, we dive into how we made the switch(es) and more importantly, WHY these changes were so significant for us. We look at where we've been and how they have shaped us into the people we are today.  Is it better to plan for your future or just wing it? What's most important when searching for the right job?  Head over at our Instagram and share your story with us in a comment or a DM! Or Tweet at us! Listening to Music Is a Full Body Experience
Do people with eclectic musical preferences have richer inner worlds? Or are they just weird? Is there a link between curiosity and musical tastes?  In this episode, Steph and Marcus discuss the role that music plays in their lives. From the songs that tell the story of their lives to the ones that you are kind of embarrassed about but know every single lyric to. (*ahem* Mambo No. 5 *ahem* MmmBop *ahem*) Listen out for: Marcus' description of listening to Ennio Morricone 'live', why Steph no longer makes music (and why Marcus does), why Steph no longer listens to sad music, Steph & Marcus' discussion about how listening to music is a full body experience. On Growing Up Awkward
We were awkward children and look how we turned out 😂 In this episode, we revisit our childhood, reminisce about what it was like to feel like odd ducks and reflect on how we came to love the people that we are today.  Did the popular kids feel awkward too? Does everyone feel awkward in their childhood? How do people move through that awkward phase? We muse on all these questions -- and more.  Listen out for: Steph & Marcus' Theory of Awkward Development, what Marcus agrees 1,000,000% with, and why Steph is grateful for her breakup.  We mention Episode 1 - How To Be An Adult and Episode 9 - Why Everyone Needs a Coach and a Therapist, so check those out if you haven't!  Were you an odd duck as a child (or maybe still are?) Why Everyone Needs a Coach and a Therapist

Why We Read (And the Books We Love)
This podcast began with an article that Marcus sent Steph that Steph obsessed over. Reading is a MASSIVE part of our lives and we're both bibliophiles.  In this episode, we chat about all things reading. Why we read, how reading shaped us from childhood, what we read (spoiler: we're not snobs), quaint bookshops, AND our recommendations for must-read books.  If you've enjoyed the twists and turns of our conversations, you might enjoy hearing where these ideas come from.  Tell us what your favorite books are over at our Instagram (https://instagram.com/entrenous.podcast) and leave us a comment or slide into our DMs. Tag us if you share this podcast with your favorite friends -- we love to hear how the conversation resonates with you! Words create worlds
This episode was kind of meta. We used words to explore how words inform how we experience the world. How doe words interact with the world we live in? Does the word we choose to use influence how we experience something? Does being multilingual change how you experience the world? Does Marcus dream in English or German? So. Many. Questions. Join us as we explore all of these questions, unpack the roots of "abra cadabra", The Gospel of John 1:1, and Steph's take on how manifestation and the law of attraction works. In true Entre Nous fashion, we go all over the place and we loved every minute of it.  What thoughts do our words spark in your head? Do you agree that paying attention to the words we use changes the way we create the world?  Hop on over to our Instagram page (https://instagram.com/entrenous.podcast) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/EntreNousPod) and leave us a comment or slide into our DMs. Tag us if you do share this podcast with your favorite friends -- we love to hear how the conversation resonates with you! Making Nails with Heads -- Just Do the Thing!
Nägel mit Köpfen machen. Making nails with heads. Wait, what?  This week, we talk about just doing the thing! Steph is a recovering perfectionist and Marcus has a strong bias towards action. We chat about doing the thing, not overthinking, getting out of your head, and how all the scary 'what if's' are 90% fiction. Listen out for mentions of chakras, the ugly face of failure, the 5 'So What's', saboteurs, and some freaking amazing energy from the both of us (because we're just so excited about just doing the thing). How to be Alone
Is being alone necessarily lonely? What reflections has being in lockdown sparked for us? How did we go from chatting about being alone to curiosity to talking about therapy? What do we do when we're alone? How do you stay connected when you're alone? Why does Steph book appointments with herself in her calendar?  So many questions about something that can be really scary for some folx! But we're two introverts and, as you can imagine, being alone can be a truly joyful place for the both of us. Let us know your thoughts on how to be alone! Is it something you enjoy or is it something that you dread?  Hop on over to our Instagram page (https://instagram.com/entrenous.podcast) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/EntreNousPod) and leave us a comment or slide into our DMs. Tag us if you do share this podcast with your favorite friends -- we love to hear how the conversation resonates with you! Waxing Lyrical about Walking
"And this is precisely the secret held by all those who go by foot: Life is prolonged when you walk. Walking expands time rather than collapses it." -- Erling Kagge. This week we talk about a book that's got Marcus all reflective and philosophical about the everyday activity of walking. Join us as we stroll and meander through all the things that walking opens up for us -- how we experience the world, being present (or not) in calls, emotions, the nature of time, and neuroplasticity.  Wait, what?  Yes. In true Steph and Marcus fashion, this conversation went everywhere our little feet could take us. This was a delightfully reflective episode and we'd love if you came and walked with us. Let us know what walking does for you! What We’ve Learned in Our 30s
July is Steph's birthday month, so OF COURSE we had to talk about age, getting older, and being in our 30s. In this episode, we chat about the things we've learned since hitting the big 3-0. What new realizations have we had? What hasn't changed at all? Join us as we wax lyrical about getting older, reflects on the influence that our parents' stories have on us, and chat about '4AM friends'. Do you have any thoughts about getting older? What's clearer for you with each passing year? Let us know over at Instagram (https://instagram.com/entrenous.podcast) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/EntreNousPod).
