Today we speak with special guest Gilbert Ndizey discusses how he has transformed coffee production from problematic to positive - using organic coffee production as a way to save the environment, the animals, and children.
Gilbert estimates one poacher can kill 100 animals a day in the wild in Uganda, so by hiring ex-poachers he not only saves the animals, but provides a way for the poachers to make a living, and the profits go to the peace and prosperity orphanage, where he helps over 200 children orphaned when their poacher parents were killed.
As Gilbert says "we now have future conservationists instead of future poachers".

Ep. 45 - Oceanbird - The transportation conundrum
Today we're going to today talk about a really important aspect of the Christmas and holiday season - which is the transportation of cargo. Find out in this video how the Oceanbird and the International Maritime Organization are changing the industry. There are a lot of cargo ships out on the sea and all of them burn fossil fuel! We always talk about traffic jams, our roads, and our cars because we see them every day. But, an even bigger problem comes with what's happening out on the ocean. There's so much poisoning of wildlife due to these old gas-guzzling machines.
Ep. 44 - The Pink Dolphin - How FISH FRAUD fuels EXTINCTION
here are many factors creating pressure on the Pink Dolphins of the Amazon River and their ability to survive. An endangered animal that is being destroyed through fish fraud, the Pink Dolphin is often forgotten, but today we discuss how we can help! The IUCN has listed the pink river dolphin as "data deficient" but endangered.
Ep. 43 - Eco Friendly Glitter
Between 4 and 12 million tons of plastic waste makes its way into the oceans every year - mainly through rivers and a lot of this comes from glitter. How is glitter made? Are there alternative eco-friendly glitter options out there?
Ep. 42 - Good news for Bees!
Are bee populations in the United States really increasing in 2020?
We all know everybody's heard the news that bees are one of the most important pollinators in all of nature and everything that we eat depends on them. Literally everything is pollinated by bees and we saw a rapid decline in their population in recent years. One of the main reasons were GMOs. When a bee or a “pest” eats a part of a GMO crop, their stomachs will explode! That is like chemical warfare on our insects and pollinators. BUT - I have two pieces of good news to share with you.

Ep. 33 - Marine Protected Areas
Ep. 33 - MPA's
Today we will dive into the MPA's. Marine Protected Areas tend to be places where management is used to prevent the collapse of the fisheries and local eco systems by industrial fishing fleets.
But what happens when the ocean's last chance is being sold to oil companies at an alarming rate.
We all drive cars and our antiquated country systems still run on fossil fuels, but there must be a middle ground between exploiting and preserving our natural resources.
Can't wait to talk about the MPA's, enforcement, and changing laws that will affect all of us for generations to come.
Since we are somewhat back at work, we have moved the show to Saturday so more people have the option to join
Ep. 32 - A Conservation Conversation with Stel Bailey
Ep. 32 - A Conservation Conversation with Stel Bailey
PFAS are forever chemicals that cause cancer and other illnesses, and worst of all- legally dumped into our water supplies.
Awareness and education about what is in the water can change the course of how we approach water conservation
and water quality standards, and those 2 topics combined will determine the fate of our future generations and the world around them.
And people like Stel are fighting back!! Cancer survivor, water warrior, and inspiration, she has turned her cancer experience into a motivation to start testing waters and creating health databases to track cancer clusters and other toxin information when the state refused to acknowledge the issue.
Check out her website that tracks toxins, and offers national and local solutions:
Ep. 31 - What's In The Water

Ep. 27 - Earth Day Special
Ep. 27 - Earth Day Special
We are all celebrating the outside while stuck inside.
Perfect time for Spring cleaning! Tomorrow we will talk about helpful ways to recycle or upcycle old and unused items in the house.
The more I do my spring cleaning the more I find things I am not sure how to throw away. With the Environment hanging in the balance, every piece of trash can tip the scales.
We will also be talking about local issues, what is happening in your neighborhood?
With all of the recent focus on CoronaVirus and the many arguments surrounding it, one thing that has been left out of conversations is the Environment.

Ep. 26 - Filmmaker Kerry David
Ep. 26 - Special Guest Kerry David!
Special guest Kerry David, will talk about her documentary Breaking Their Silence!
In my experience, Conservation tends to be more male-dominated in the public eye, while actually being mostly driven by women through direct action, art, science, and policy changes.
My guest Kerry David wants to change that visibility and conversation.
Focusing on the women battling the front lines of poaching, Kerry's film has been winning awards and opening minds all throughout 2019, and I am very excited to have her on the show!
Using the film to help spread the message, Kerry has been working tirelessly to bring awareness about the topic of poaching and finding ways for positive changes in the future to prevent it.

Ep. 25 - The Cost of Costco
Ep. 25 - Overpopulation and the Cost of Costco
Everynight on the news we see Costco parking lots filled to the max, and people buying huge bulk amounts of toilet paper with fears of quarantine.
And it's no coincidence, Americans are approx. 4% of the world's population, but consume 20% of the world's paper products.
On tomorrow's episode, we will talk about Costco toilet paper, and the price our climate is paying for it.
Unfortunately, one of Costco's biggest sellers — toilet paper — is contributing to the destruction of Canada's great boreal forest, which covers about half of Canada. Sadly, since 1996, 22 million acres — an area roughly the size of Indiana — have been cut down to produce virgin fiber pulp, the key ingredient in premium toilet paper and hand tissues.
Is your brand listed on here? These are the results of the NRDC's report grading the sustainability of each.

Ep. 24 - Back to Nature with Scott Countryman
Ep. 24 - Back To Nature
Great internet, no food or water - a sign of the times.
This week's guest is my good friend Scott Countryman , who runs the Coral Triangle Conservancy, and is currently on a small island with no running water in the Philippines.
Under threat of arrest, he cannot leave the island to buy food, and in these times he focuses on surviving every day.
As we all face lockdown internationally due to an animal born virus, we are taking the environment around us more seriously than ever.
Many people are stuck inside imagining a simpler life on an island far from humans.
Scott will join us and discuss his situation right now, and also take us on a tour of the island and some of the inventive solutions he has created to live off the grid and keep the balance of human need and keeping nature natural.
Please check out Scott's website for his work, where he spends his life to save the fastly disappearing corals in a legendary area known as the Coral Triangle.
His goal is to become net positive for the biosphere because sustainability is not enough!
The Coral Triangle is a roughly triangular area of the tropical marine waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste that contain at least 500 species of reef-building corals in each ecoregion
You can watch the show live at facebook.com/erik.crown
We will talk about positive solutions to move forward and how we can improve after the pandemic to change the way we live and demand companies treat the Earth.
Ep. 23 - The Ecology of Disease
Ep. 23
With everyone talking about the CoronaVirus, it's a good time to examine The Ecology of Disease - a term used by biologists and economists to understand the relationship between nature and man’s effect on it.
Most diseases have started from human actions that change the natural world around us, and environmental issues and pollution causing over 60% of the infectious diseases we catch originate in animals.
A few examples include AIDS, Ebola, and Lyme disease.
How we treat our world is how the world treats us, and we will talk about ways we can help the planet from our Revolution through Routine.
On a personal level, this topic really resonates with many of the unanswered questions I have about how the environment affected my Cancer. This question has turned into a personal mission of mine over the last few years to investigate and shed light on the environmental factors that contribute to our new hybrid cancers that are increasing at an alarming rate from the poisoned world around us.

Ep. 22 - Labels
Ever go to the store and not sure exactly what all of the new labels mean?
How can you make sure you are shopping in alignment with your conscience? We all have different approaches to how we eat, but we all want access to safe foods.
We will delve into the variety of labels, and how some countries try unique approaches to labeling products.
With labeling laws being loosened in this country, it's more important than ever to know what each label guarantees, some are good, and some are deceptions!

Ep. 21 - Shark Finning with Wilson McCourtney
Shark finning is the horrible practice of cutting a shark's fins off, then dumping the live bodies back into the ocean, as they fall helplessly to the floor slowly suffocating.
The shark fin is primarily used for only one purpose - as a status symbol ingredient in Shark Fin Soup in China and now around the world, but recently the world has stood up and said No More!
Laws are being passed around the globe to help protect sharks, one of the most endangered animals in the world, with shark populations in the decline from 86% to 99%, they are on the brink of extinction.
Today's guest is Wilson McCourtney, a passionate cinematographer and activist that has helped push the Florida anti shark finning bill that recently passed, and devotes his life to showing the beautiful, tranquil, and hidden life of sharks.
His work on every level has had a huge impact, he is one of the people fighting for a better tomorrow,
Please check out Wilson's website at:
Ep. 20 - Environmental Inequality
The Conservation Conversation Episode 20 - Today's Conservation Conversation Focused on Environmental Pollution and the federal and local policies that affect how badly our neighborhoods are used for toxic corporate pollution.
Ep. 19 - Coral Reefs and Fishinars with Madalyn Mussey, REEF.org
Episode 19 - Coral Reefs and Fish ID - How you can get involved!
with special guest Madalyn Mussey, Education and Outreach Program Manager at REEF!
Coral reefs are called The Rainforest of The Sea and create biologically diverse areas in the ocean which keep it healthy.
One important aspect to watching the health of the ocean is the population of the fish.
REEF collects info on fish populations around the world in reef areas, and stores it in one publicly accessible database.
REEF.org has free fish ID courses you can take online, and then when you dive you can fill out a citizen scientist survey.
CALLING ALL DIVERS!
YOUR EXPERIENCE IS EMPIRICAL DATA.
Using the worldwide army of divers already watching the oceans, REEF.org has created a great way to start a database of what is happening worldwide.
I have done an online class with them, it's really fun, informative, and fascinating!
Check them out at reef.org
"REEF's mission, to educate and enlist divers in the conservation of marine habitats, is accomplished primarily through the Volunteer Fish Survey Project".
Ep. 18 - EPA and Cancer of the Body Politic
This episode explores the Environmental Protection Agency and their quest to de-regulate an already toxic environment. The people who are supposed to help citizens stay safe from the industry have been sold out by Andrew Wheeler, Coal Lobbyist and head of the EPA currently.
With the EPA destroying most environmental protections to pave the way for oil and industry to exploit, we examine this agency and the work they have done in 2019 that have landed us in a more toxic soup than ever before in this country.
Ep. 17 - Ikea and Illegal Logging - Live from Romania
Live from Romania!!!!! Ep. 17 - Illegal Logging
(Sponsored By PREHEMPTIVE)
Excited to get back online and get the conversation going!
Illegal logging is a worldwide issue, and 3 of our most important forests are being cut down by a handful of Environmental criminals.
Not only do they destroy biodiversity, but they also alter the Earth's ability to sustain people, causing food insecurity and many other problems.
Too often, NGO's and companies focus on the poor people on the front lines, claiming to save some while trying to arrest others for an easy victory - yet the true criminals are always left untouched, and the results affect us all.
Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow - It's Our World, Let's talk about it!
Ep. 16 - Environmental Law
This episode looks at the changes to laws affecting the environment in 2019, and how they will affect us in 2020.
Ep. 15 - Eco-Tourism and Performative Activism
This Saturday on the Conservation Conversation - Ep. 15 - Eco-Tourism and Performative Activism.
Eco-Tourism is a difficult area to navigate, with so many companies, zoos, and sanctuaries claiming to help animals, this episode will explore ways to check if your money and visit there is actually helping, or hurting.
Did you know a sloth selfie can kill? Being touched by people causes an insane amount of stress on sloths, and often leads to an early death.
If you have ever wanted a sloth selfie, or have a pet monkey, or even wanted to visit a place like Shedd Aquarium Chicago, IL or Seaworld, you are hurting the animals you are tricked into thinking you are helping by being there.
Many celebrities and even Cconservationists or animal rights activists have been taking selfies with captive animals, which hurts more than helps.
As we enter a time where social media paints a lot of our reality, more and more "performance activists" are showing up, asking for your donation dollars, but how can you tell if they are legit?
Most of us want to help the animals but are being tricked into causing more harm than good. Animal enslavement for human entertainment
From the kill and capture method of acquiring animals for displays, especially endangered or rare animals, like the captive Belugas in Chicago, animal interaction tourist areas keep an industry of poaching thriving.
We will talk about eco-tourism, the good and dark side, and offer ways to know if you are going to a place that will actually help!
This Saturday!! 1 pm California time and 4pm East Coast time!

Ep. 14 - Snare Trap Poaching in South Africa with Kailen Padayachee
Today's podcast delves into the issue of poaching in South Africa with our special guest Kailen Padayachee, who runs Kainev Conservation. He runs a program to remove snare traps, have them turned into jewelry and sold on the internet, and works with educating locals and children all around the area.
Often poaching is a slow path from tradition. AS children learn to hunt and trap from their parents and relatives, for some it turns into a job as they pursue money by hunting endangered animals.
A very complex issue - you won't want to miss this episode!
Ep. 13 - Pesticides and Eco Genocide with Scott Wilson
This was censored by facebook!!!!
Florida clean water activist Scott Wilson works tirelessly to stop pesticide spraying of Roundup (yes, that killer weed killer from Monsanto), and new chemicals onto natural lake areas.
What are pesticides and how do they affect our health?
These pesticides not only kill all of the animals it comes in contact with, but it also poisons the fish, and then the toxins work their way up the food chain.
This episode covers the Green Revolution, which birthed pesticides to control the new GMO crops, and the dangers they face to our health and world around us!
for more information on Scott Wilson's work, please go to:

Ep. 12 - CBD
What is CBD?
Is it legal? Will it get you high? What is the best type of CBD for me?
What are endocannabinoids? How does CBD work in your body?
These questions and much more answered on this episode of The Conservation Conversation - LIVE FRom oro.co pop-up store on Abbot Kinney in Venice, Ca.
