Episode 46: The Resurrection Of The Jewish Messiah - Eric Chabot
The resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in human history. While many books have been written on the subject, Eric Chabot, in his book "The Resurrection Of The Jewish Messiah" looks at the context with a, particularly Jewish outlook. What is the historical evidence for Jesus' resurrection? And how does the resurrection relate to Jesus being the Jewish Messiah? Is resurrection really a messianic qualification? That is the subject of this podcast episode's interview.  You can by Chabot's book here --> https://www.amazon.com/Resurrection-Jewish-Messiah-Eric-Chabot-ebook/dp/B07SQ5GYV8?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B07SQ5GYV8

Episode 44: Darwinian Evolution and A Historical Adam are Compatible
Darwin VS. Moses, The Origin Of Man VS. The Book of Genesis, Science VS. Faith. Most people seem to think that you've got to have one or the other. If one is right the other is wrong. As we've seen in Evan Minton's series on Genesis, this is not true regarding the first chapter of Genesis, but what about the second chapter? Does Genesis 2 present a view of human origins that is hopelessly at odds with what we know from biology, genetics, paleontology and anthropology? How can someone accept The Bible and science at the same time if the scientific evidence seems to favor a view of human origins The Bible contradicts? Should we reject science or should we reject The Bible? In this podcast episode, Mr. Minton's answer is: NEITHER! You neither have to deny the truth of Genesis 2 nor reject what science says. The two, when properly understood, are compatible.

Episode 39: The Cosmic Temple Inaguration View Of Genesis 1
Genesis 1 is one of the most widely disputed passages of The Old Testament. What is Genesis saying? In this episode, Evan Minton argues that Genesis 1 is not an account of natural history/material origins. Rather, Genesis 1 is about functional origins and about God inaugurating the universe as His temple in a time period of 7-24 hour days. God assigned functions to the things mentioned in Genesis 1 as part of inaugurating His "Cosmic Temple" which He took up His "rest" in at the end of the 7 day account. Minton believes that science is not conflict nor CAN be with Genesis 1 because Genesis 1 is not offering an account of material origins. Whatever account of material origins science offers cannot be rejected on the basis of science.

Episode 38: The Creation Battle - Interview With Daniel Eaton
How did such a wonderful text as Genesis 1 become such a bloodied battleground? Why is there such emotionally charged rhetoric and disdain from  over a chapter of The Bible? Are these battles over how to correctly read Genesis one we are called to win at all cost, or can one be a faithful Christian and have freedom to explore various options? This episode's guest, Daniel Eaton, argues that the damage that quarrels over Genesis 1 within the body of Christ is not worth the benefit of winning someone to one particular interpretation of a biblical passage. He believes we should abandon the fight over whether the Bible teaches young-earth versus old-earth or miracle versus natural processes.  To buy Eaton's book, click here --> https://www.amazon.com/Creation-Battle-fighting-battles-harming-ebook/dp/B00T6N61TQ?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00T6N61TQ  To become a Cerebral Faith Patron, go to Patreon.com/cerebralfaith.

Episode 35: The Rabbi On The Mount - Interview With Phil Weingart
You can’t interpret scripture properly without understanding its context. When Jesus spoke, Judaism was the context. In today's episode, Evan Minton interviews Phil Weingart about his book "The Rabbi On The Mount: How Jesus' Judaism Helps To Clarify The Sermon On The Mount". “'The Rabbi on the Mount' presents details from history, scripture, and the writings of the Jewish sages of Jesus’ day that illuminate what Jesus would have meant by many of the things He said in the Sermon and explain how His students would have taken His words. Learning the facts about Jesus’ Jewish culture and religion sheds much-needed light on this crucial teaching by the Master."

Episode 34: The Story Of The Cosmos - Interview With Daniel Ray
Psalm 19:1-4 says "The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the works of His hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech and night after night, they reveal knowledge. There are no words. Their voice is not heard. Yet their voice goes throughout the Earth and their words to the ends of the world." The scientist Johannes Kepler considered science to be "thinking God's thoughts after Him". Unfortunately, our secularized culture has caused many to view the universe not as the brilliant handiwork of an Engineer, Mathematician, and Artist, but simply the outworkings of purposeless and blind processes.  In this episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast, Mr. Minton interviews Daniel Ray. Ray is the general editor and contributor of "The Story Of The Cosmos: How The Heavens Declare God's Glory". Episode 33: Ancient Near Eastern Thought and The Old Testament - Interview With John Walton
Interpreting Scripture is about three things; context, context, context. There are different kinds of context when it comes to interpreting The Bible. There's  "Immediate Context" which is to interpret a verse in light of the verses that come before and after, there's the context of scripture as a whole, and there's cultural context. When it comes to that last one, much homework needs to be done. Cultural context is reading a biblical passage the way it's original author and audience would have understood it, according to their cultural cognitive environment. Knowing the cultural context can sometimes let you see additional meaning to a passage or even to alert you to how you may have been reading something INTO the text something that was never there. In this episode, Evan Minton interviews Leading Old Testament scholar John Walton on his book "Ancient Near Eastern Thought and The Old Testament" which helps people to do just that.   "Ancient Near Eastern Thought and The Old Testament: can be purchased here -->  https://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Near-Eastern-Thought-Testament/dp/1540960218

What does Molinism have to do with The Kalam Cosmological Argument for God's existence, The Fine-Tuning Argument for God's existence, or the problem of evil? More than you might think. In this episode, Mr. Minton interviews Tim Stratton of FreeThinking Ministries (www.freethinkingministries.com) about a paper he presented at the most recent Evangelical Philosophical Society conference. Episode 28: Is Hell A Hellacious Doctrine?
The doctrine of Hell is a stumbling block for many people. To many, it just doesn't seem possible for God to be perfectly good yet sentence people to an eternity of torment. In this episode, Evan Minton talks about the doctrine of Hell and addresses a variety of objections to it such as "How could God punish people infinitely long for sins of finite significance?", "How could God send infants to Hell?" "How could God be just if He punishes all sins equally?" and "What happens to those who die without ever hearing the gospel?"  Evan Minton goes into more depth about these issues in the book "A Hellacious Doctrine: A Defense Of The Biblical Doctrine Of Hell" available on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle. --  https://www.amazon.com/Hellacious-Doctrine-Defense-Biblical-Hell/dp/1539938824

Episode 27: Is The Problem Of Evil Really A Problem?
If God is all powerful and all good, why doesn't He stop evil and suffering? The answer that atheists think most plausibly answers this question is that either God is not all powerful, not all good, or doesn't even exist! This is one of the sharpest arrows in the atheists' quiver. Nevertheless, while it has prima facie persuasive power, it withers under scrutiny, and Evan Minton will show that in today's podcast episode. There are three versions of the problem of evil. Two of them are intellectual in nature and one of them is emotional in nature. In this podcast episode, Evan Minton will refute all three of them.

In this episode, Evan Minton interviews Dave Glander of Truth Ministries who believes that The Shroud Of Turin really is the burial cloth of Jesus. And he doesn't just take this stance on blind faith, he takes it on the basis of powerful scientific evidence.

Episode 23: The FreeThinking Argument - Interview with Tim Stratton
Atheists pride themselves on being "Free Thinkers", but if atheism, and particularly the naturalistic version of it is true, can they or anyone else really be free thinkers? The guest in this episode is Tim Stratton of FreeThinking Ministries (www.freethinkingministries.com) says that if naturalism is true, no one, be they atheist or theist, can be free thinkers. He defends an argument called The FreeThinking Argument, which was the topic of his Master's Thesis at Biola University. -------------- To help you keep up with the discussion, I've included the steps of the argument in the show notes.  1: If naturalism is true, the immaterial soul does not exist. 2: If the immaterial soul does not exist, then libertarian free will does not exist. 3: If libertarian free will does not exist, then rationality and knowledge do not exist. 4: Rationality and knowledge exist. 5: Therefore, libertarian free will exists. 6: Therefore, the soul exists. 7: Therefore, naturalism is false. 8: The best explanation for the existence of the soul is the biblical God.

Continuing from last week, Evan Minton will be talking about various logical fallacies that come up during discussions he's had when defending Christianity. Logical Fallacies are mistakes in thinking and reasoning, which renders an argument for a certain conclusion unreasonable. In this episode, Evan Minton talk about The Red Herring Fallacy, The Genetic Fallacy, Appeal To Emotion, Shifting The Burden Of Proof, The Fallacy Of Composition, The Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc Fallacy, Loaded Question and The Ad-Hoc Fallacy.  Become a patron at  https://www.patreon.com/cerebralfaith

Episode 21: Logical Fallacies: What They Are and How To Avoid Them -Part 1
Logical fallacies are mistakes in thinking and argumentation. When a fallacy occurs, one's argument is a failure, and one is unjustified in believing said argument's conclusion on the basis of said argument. To learn how to avoid falling for someone's fallacious argument and to avoid coming up with fallacious arguments on your own, you need to know what the list of fallacies are to better help spot them. In this episode, Evan Minton goes through 9 logical fallacies and gives examples he's encountered from non-Christians who make fallacious arguments against Christianity.  Become a patron at  https://www.patreon.com/cerebralfaith

Episode 20: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 5: Answering Unanswered Questions
This is the conclusion of a 5 part series on the resurrection of Jesus. In this finale of the series, Evan Minton answers some questions that commonly come up during his discussions with skeptics on the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. "Why didn't Jesus appear to Pilate and the Pharisees?", "Why does Mark's gospel end with no post-mortem appearances?", "Why don't more historical sources mention Jesus if He existed?", and others are questions that Mr. Minton addresses in this podcast episode. Finally, for anyone who has been persuaded by the arguments and evidence in this podcast series, Mr. Minton closes with a mini-sermon on how to move from merely acknowledging the truth of Christianity to saving faith.

Episode 19: The Case For Jesus’ Resurrection - Part 4: The Antecedent Probability Objection
When skeptics fail at finding a naturalistic theory to account for the minimal facts, they resort to a different tactic. In this episode, Mr. Minton responds to the argument that the resurrection of Jesus is so improbable, that the evidence given in favor of it is just simply not good enough to overcome that probability. This is known as "The Antecedent Probability Objection". Mr. Minton will argue that all of the evidence we have is indeed strong enough to overcome the a-prior probability against miraculous resurrections.  To get into more detail about the topics Minton discusses in this episode, get the book "My Redeemer Lives: Evidence For The Resurrection Of Jesus" written by Evan Minton himself, and available for free for a limited time in this DropBox link --> https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rvtwg9ai2w8you/My%20Redeemer%20Lives%20-%20Evan%20Minton.azw?dl=0

Episode 18: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 3: The Best Explanation For The Minimal Facts
This is part 3 of 3 of a series on the historical case for Jesus' resurrection. In part 2, Evan Minton used The Principles/Criteria Of Authenticity that he laid out in part 1 to come to the conclusion that 5 propositions are historically true; (1) Jesus died by crucifixion, (2) Jesus was found empty the following Sunday morning, (3) His disciples sincerely believed that Jesus appeared to them alive after His death, (4) a church persecutor named Paul converted on the basis of what He perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus, and (5) that a skeptic named James converted to Christianity on the basis of what he perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus. How does one best explain these 5 historical facts? Did Jesus rise from the dead? Maybe, but perhaps we should see if a natural explanation works first before we conclude that. In this episode, Evan Minton comes to the best explanation by means of a process of elimination. He eliminates all of the bad explanations until only one remains.

Episode 17: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 2; The Minimal Facts
In the previous episode, Mr. Minton explained the historical methodology he would be taking in defending certain facts about Jesus as actually being true, historical facts. He explained that he would be employing "The criteria of authenticity" to The New Testament just as non-Christian historians and scholars do in their examination of the historical Jesus. He then went on to argue that the historical Jesus believed himself to be divine. However, why should we believe him? After all, anyone can claim to be God, but that doesn't make it true. This is where the resurrection comes into play. If Jesus died and rose from the dead, then that is pretty good evidence that He was telling the truth. God would not raise someone who committed identity theft against him, knowing that doing so would validate those claims. In this episode, Evan Minton defends "The 5 Minimal Facts" surrounding the death of Jesus upon which an inference to the historicty of His miraculous resurrection can be made.  The minimal facts are (1) Jesus died by crucifixion. (2) Jesus' tomb was found empty the following Sunday morning, (3) His disciples sincerely believed that Jesus appeared to them after His death, (4) A church persecutor named Saul Of Tarsus converted to Christianity on the basis of what He perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus, and (5) That a skeptic named James converted to Christianity on the basis of what he perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus. How do we know these facts are facts? Episode 16: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 1, The Criteria Of Authenticity & Jesus' Divine Self-Understanding
This podcast episode is the beginning of a series in which Evan Minton makes a case that the Jesus of history and the Jesus of faith are the same Jesus. Minton argues that (1) Jesus claimed to be God,(2) died on the cross and (3) rose from the dead. In the first half of this episode he explains the methodology he'll be employing, as understanding the methodology is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and to keep opponents from attacking straw men. The second half employs that methodology to the documents written about Jesus from the first century to make the case that Jesus of Nazareth believed that He was God incarnate.

Episode 14: The Case For Nero Caesar Being The Beast Of Revelation
Who is the anti-Christ? Who is the beast of Revelation? Many people over the past few decades have been identified as the anti-Christ such as Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Ronald Reagan, The Pope (or some future pope) and even Barack Obama! All of this speculation about who the anti-Christ or the beast is all hinge on the same presupposition: that the beast is yet to come. But what if that presupposition is false? What if the beast isn't some future person, but a first century figure who's already come and gone? Episode 13: The Case For The Preterist Reading Of Matthew 24
Jesus' sermon in Matthew 24, also known as the Olivet Discourse, is one of the many biblical passages that comes up during discussions of the end times. Most Christians however, presuppose that everything Jesus prophesies has not yet been fulfilled, it's still in our future. This makes some excited when blood moons occur, when they watch the news and see all of the turmoil in the world, the "wars and rumors of wars", "famines and earthquakes in various places", and people who claim to be Jesus (because Jesus said near the end that many would say "I am The Christ") etc. But what if all of the end times speculation built around Matthew 24 is built upon a false presupposition? What if, in fact, Matthew 24 has already been fulfilled? In this podcast episode, Evan Minton will read his paper "The Case For The Preterist Reading Of Matthew 24" which argues that The Olivet Discourse was completely fulfilled by the end of the first century.  To donate to this podcast, click here --> Anchor.fm/evan-minton To read the paper, click here --> https://cerebralfaith.blogspot.com/2018/09/the-case-for-preterist-reading-of.html To download the paper, click here --> https://www.dropbox.com/s/5la9rx9oci65kq5/The%20Case%20For%20The%20Preterist%20Reading%20Of%20Matthew%2024.pdf?dl=0

Episode 12: The Soteriological Case For Molinism
In this week's episode, Mr. Minton reads aloud his paper "The Soteriological Case For Molinism". Molinism is a theological system that seeks to account for divine sovereignty and human freedom. Molinism is the view that God uses His knowledge of what any free creature would freely choose in any given circumstance to orchestrate every event that occurs without violating human freedom in the process. In last week's episode, Mr. Minton showed that The Bible teaches that human beings have libertarian free will, that God has middle knowledge, and that God meticulously controls all things. He showed how only Molinism can fully harmonize and account for all 3 biblical teachings. In the paper Mr. Minton is reading in this week's episode, he shows that The Bible teaches several facts about the doctrine of salvation, and that, while traditional Arminianism and traditional Calvinism can account for SOME of these biblical teachings on the doctrine of salvation, they fall short of explaining ALL of The Biblical data. Calvinists and Arminians often have to downplay or explain away some of the biblical texts. Molinism can account for everything The Bible teaches concerning soteriology. It doesn't have to explain away any biblical passage. Therefore, Christians who want to embrace the whole word of God ought to affirm it. Episode 10: The Case For Mere Molinism
If God is in control, how can human beings have free will? On the other hand, if human beings don't have free will, how can God hold us morally accountable for the things that we do? The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all things but also that human being are genuinely free to make decisions. The Bible itself doesn't give us the answer of how these two biblical teachings can both be true. To harmonize them is the task of systematic theology, not biblical theology. Molinism is a theological system that seeks to account for divine sovereignty and human freedom. Molinism is the view that God uses His knowledge of what any free creature would freely choose in any given circumstance to orchestrate every event that occurs without violating human freedom in the process. In this podcast episode, Mr. Minton reads aloud his paper "The Case For Mere Molinism" which shows that out of all the theological systems on the table, only Molinism can account for the entirety of scripture's teachings. Episode 8: Into The Life Of Christian Scientists; Rhyanna Rogers and Angela Fugate
Many people seem to be under the impression that to be a good scientist, you must be an atheist. The best scientists are atheists after all, right? In this episode, Evan Minton interviews Rhyanna Rogers and Angela Fugate; two microbiologists who also happen to be Bible believing Christians! Rogers and Fugate give the story of how they became Christians, what made them want enter the field of microbiology, what microbiology even is, how they reconcile their faith with science, advice to young Christians who want to enter the natural sciences, and more.  If you wish to donate to this podcast: click here --> https://anchor.fm/evan-minton

After weeks of surveying Argument's For God's Existence, Evan Minton has come to the end doing a series on of the series. He finishes off by talking about The Ontological Argument For God's Existence which was first formulated by St. Anselm. Episode 5: The Local Fine-Tuning Argument For God's Existence
In this episode, Evan Minton will talk about how improbable it is for our planet to be suitable for advanced life. The size of the Earth, the size of the moon, the size of the sun, the rotation speed of Earth, the amount of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere, and many other parameters had to come together to make our planet habitable. What is the best explanation of this? Did these things all come together by mere chance? Or was this result of a divine plan?

Episode 4: The Fine-Tuning Argument For God's Existence
In this episode, Evan Minton goes over a scientific subject known as The Cosmic Fine-Tuning. The Laws of physics are so delicately balanced that if they were off by even a hair's breadth, no life of any kind could exist anywhere at all in the universe. What best accounts for this extraordinary feature of the universe? Physical necessity, chance, or intelligent design?

Episode 3: The Kalam Cosmological Argument For God's Existence (Part 2)
This is part 2 of a 2 part episode on The Kalam Cosmological Argument for God's Existence. In the previous podcast episode, Evan Minton laid out the premises of the argument; (1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause, (2) The universe began to exist, (3) Therefore the universe has a cause, and explained why the type of cause has to be God. In this episode, Evan Minton will be addressing a myriad of objections that atheist detractors have lodged against the argument in an attempt to refute it. The Kalam argument seems like a good argument at face value, but does it hold up under scrutiny? Listen to this episode to find out!

Episode 2: The Kalam Cosmological Argument For God's Existence (Part 1)
Many would be surprised to know that there are good reasons to believe that God exists. You don't have to take God's existence on blind faith alone. There's evidence for God. The Kalam Cosmological Argument is one of them. This argument, initially formulated by the 11th century philosopher Al Ghazali and popularized by contemporary philosopher Dr. William Lane Craig, argues to the existence of a Creator from the law of causality and the fact that the universe had a beginning to its existence out of nothing. (1) Whatever Begins To Exist Has A Cause.  (2) The Universe Began To Exist. (3) Therefore, The Universe Has A Cause.
