The Cerebral Faith Podcast
By Evan Minton
This podcast talks about the arguments for God's existence, the historical evidence for Jesus' resurrection, the toughest objections skeptics pose against the Christian faith, theological issues like soteriology and eschatology (i.e the doctrine of the last days), and so much more. Listen to this podcast (hosted by apologist Evan Minton) whether you are already a Christian, a hardcore skeptic, or a spiritual seeker, and you will discover that you can be a Christian BECAUSE of using your brain rather than in spite of using it.
Episode 148: Designed To The Core - With Hugh Ross
Today on The Cerebral Faith Podcast, I have astrophysicist Hugh Ross on the program to talk about his new book "Designed To The Core", which talks about both cosmic and local Fine-Tuning, and what the latest science has to say regarding the evidence for a Cosmic Creator of our world. Hugh Ross is the founder of Reasons To Believe (RTB), an organization dedicated to showing the compatibility between science and faith, and giving reasons to believe (hence the name) that God exists and that The Bible can be trusted. Episode 147: Gifts Of The Holy Spirit and Tongues - With Chris Date
Do the gifts of The Holy Spirit continue to be distributed today? Many Christians think so. However, some Christians think the gifts of the Spirit have ceased since the first century. Moreover, whichever view you take on this, what about the gift of tongues? Continuing today or not, are the tongues some heavenly angelic language no one on this planet can speak or are the tongues human languages of different nations? And what about those who say speaking in tongues is a litmus test for salvation? These topics and more will be discussed by my guest Chris Date. Chris' material can be found at www.Theopologics.com and www.RethinkingHell.com. And also www.ChrisDate.info

Episode 140: Cerebral Faith 10th Anniversary Special
[DISCLAIMER: Book Giveaway is no longer viable. This audio came from a live streamed episode of Cerebral Faith Live. The winner has already been chosen and has received his prize.] On August 12th, 2012, I decided to start a blog called Cerebral Faith to write about the things I was learning about in the books on Christian Apologetics I had been reading and to give my own thoughts on certain arguments for and against the Christian faith. It grew from a tiny blog with hardly any readers to one with about 1,500 page views a day on average. In 2019, I decided to start an audio podcast, and then in 2020, I started Cerebral Faith Video; the name of the Cerebral Faith YouTube channel. To commemorate 10 years of this ministry, I did a stream in which I read off Q&A articles while interacting with the live chat.

Episode 136: Exegeting The Sermon On The Mount (Part 3) - Jesus' Attitude Toward Old Testament Law
This week's Cerebral Faith Podcast continues a series that started last week. I will be preaching through Jesus' Sermon On The Mount in Matthew 5. This week, we will look at what Jesus meant when he said he "hasn't come to abolish the law and the prophets, but to fulfill them". What does Jesus mean by this phrase? Are we still bound to the 613 laws of Torah? Doesn't this contradict the equally inspired Pauline epistles? Is Jesus teaching we're saved by works? These are the questions I will be addressing in tonight's sermon.

Episode 135: Exegeting The Sermon On The Mount (Part 2) - Salt and Light
This week's episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast continues a series that started last week. I will be going through Jesus' Sermon On The Mount in Matthew 5. Much ink has been spilled in expositing this sermon. It is three chapters of God incarnate preaching to us about kingdom living. As such, it is of importance for any Christian to spend time in meditating on what our Lord is saying to us. Since coming back from burnout in May, I've spent the last couple of months intensely studying this Sermon in Logos Bible Software, reading books by theologians about it, reading commentaries alongside the biblical text in two separate columns, and digging into the biblical Greek and other biblical references. This series will be about me discussing the results of my study. This week, we will begin looking at Jesus' illustrations of salt and light which symbolize what Christians are to be in the world.

Episode 133: Bringing The New Testament To Life - With Phillip Cottraux
"The New Testament is the foundational document of the Christian faith. But how much do we really know about these 27 books? To whom were they written, and what were they trying to say? All too often, we treat the Bible with sacred reverence, without examining its historical context. But in doing so, we risk losing its original meaning. Worse, we provide fodder for skeptics ready to pounce on our lack of knowledge of our own holy book. In Bringing the New Testament to Life, author Philip Cottraux seeks to correct that. Armed with years of historical research, Cottraux weaves an easy-to-understand breakdown of scripture with an epic narrative, casting the world that birthed Christianity in a whole new light.” In today’s Cerebral Faith Live episode, I discuss the new book “Bringing The New Testament To Life” with its author Phillip Cottraux. Episode 132: The High Christology Of The Gospel Of Mark
Some skeptics of The Bible argue that the teaching that Jesus is God did not emerge until very late in the first century. Few skeptical New Testament scholars would deny that the gospel of John presents us with a divine Jesus. After all, not many (besides Arians and Jehovah's Witnesses) can read John 1 without seeing that Jesus is God, distinct from the Father, and is the Creator of all? But what about Mark's gospel? Whereas the latest gospel undoubtedly presents us with a divine Jesus, Mark's gospel, skeptics say, does not. Mark's gospel presents us with a merely human Jesus who is a prophet sent from God at best. In this episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast, I will argue that Mark presents us with a Jesus every bit as divine as John's gospel, and ergo, this evolving divinity hypothesis is false. Episode 130: Have Christians Lost Their Minds? - With Ken Samples
As a philosopher and theologian, Kenneth Samples is passionate about encouraging Christians to think. This is why he was disturbed when discovering this quote from Dennis Prager found in Kent Hughes’s, Disciples of a Godly Man. “One thing I noticed about Evangelicals is that they do not read. They do not read the Bible, they do not read the great Christian thinkers, they have never heard of Aquinas. If they're Presbyterian, they've never read the founders of Presbyterianism. I do not understand that. As a Jew, that's confusing to me. The commandment of study is so deep in Judaism that we immerse ourselves in study. God gave us a brain, aren't we to use it in his service? When I walk into an Evangelical Christian's home and see a total of 30 books, most of them best-sellers, I do not understand. I have bookcases of Christian books, and I am a Jew. Why do I have more Christian books than 98% of the Christians in America? That is so bizarre to me.” The life of the mind is more than simply enriching. It is crucial to the future of Christianity. Philosopher and theologian Kenneth Richard Samples has a great passion to help people understand the reasonableness and relevance of Christianity’s truth claims. He is the senior research scholar at Reasons to Believe and the author of several books, including "Classic Christian Thinkers", "7 Truths That Changed the World", and "God Among Sages". Episode 129: How Did God Create Us?: Evolution Or Special Creation?
How did God create us human beings? Did He create us de novo, apart from the other species or did He employ an evolutionary process? To debate this issue tonight is Reason’s To Believe’s Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Aaron R. Yilmaz. Dr. Rana will be defending the special creation view and Yilmaz will be defending the Evolutionary Creationist view. Biochemist Fazale Rana, is VP of Research and Apologetics at Reasons to Believe, holds a PhD in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry from Ohio University. He is the author of several groundbreaking books, including Humans 2.0, Thinking about Evolution, and Fit for a Purpose (Fall 2021). Aaron R. Yilmaz has taught biology at the college level and holds an M.S. in Biology from the University of Saint Joseph, and a B.S. in Biology with departmental honors from Oakland University. He is currently pursing a PhD in Biology (evolutionary ecology focus) from Case Western Reserve University. Episode 128: Soteriology Is A Bed Of R.O.S.E.S - With Kenneth Keathley
Are you aware that deterministic T.U.L.I.P Calvinism has more holes than a block of Swiss cheese and yet you find yourself not completely satisfied with typical Arminian soteriology either? Then you’re in good company. Evan Minton and Kenneth Keathley felt exactly the same way, but then they discovered Molinism. While Molinism is not a soteriological view per se, it can be applied to one’s understanding of soteriology. With a Molinistic flavor of Arminianism, no longer do you have to explain away any of The Bible’s teachings on God’s love, the extent of the atonement, predestination, or eternal security. You can embrace the whole counsel of God. If you want to dive deeper into this subject, pick up a copy of Kenneth Keathley’s book “Salvation and Sovereignty: A Molinist Approach”. Episode 127: DEBATE - The Resurrection Of Jesus: Fact Or Fiction?
Did Jesus rise from the dead? How can we know whether he did or not? Do you just have to have faith that it happened? Does your answer to this question depend on a presupposition on whether or not The Bible is the word of God? Or can we have good historical evidence for this event? In tonight’s episode of Cerebral Faith Live, Christian Caleb Jackson and Non-Christian James Fodor will be debating this topic. Chris Jackson takes the resurrection of Jesus as “fact” and James Fodor takes it as “fiction”. Episode 123: Baby Dinosaurs On The Ark? - With Janet Kellogg Ray
The issue of science and faith is a struggle for many Christians. How to we reconcile the findings of science regarding an old earth and evolution with our Christian faith? Can they be reconciled? And what does the evidence from science even say in the first place? What evidence is there for an old earth? What evidence is there for evolution? The Sermon On The Mount recorded in Matthew 5-7 has many teachings of Jesus that He intended for members of the kingdom of God to follow. However, not everything in this passage is correctly understood by Bible readers. Many misconceptions and misinterpretations abound. In this episode, Evan Minton sets the record straight on many of Jesus' teachings recorded. The topics to discuss are: *Light Of The World and Showing Off - Matthew 5:14-16 *Since Jesus Said He Came Not To Abolish The Law, Are We Still Bound By Old Testament? - Matthew 5:17-18 *Jesus said never to get angry? - Matthew 5:21-22 *The Commandment Not To Lust - Matthew 5:28 *Did Jesus contradict Leviticus? - Matthew 5:38-42 *The Commandment To Love Your Enemies. - Matthew 5:43-48 *Rain On The Just and The Unjust Is Showing Kindness Not Allowing Bad Things To Happen. - Matthew 5:45 *Did Jesus Say Not To Judge? - Matthew 7:1 --------------------------------------------------- BE SURE TO CHECK OUT: "'Whoever Looks at a Woman With Lust': Misinterpreted Bible Passages #1" by Jason A. Episode 120: DEBATE - Is Annihilationism Or Universalism True?
The debate on the nature of Hell usually takes place between those who believe it consists of eternal torture and those who believe the wicked are annihilated. Often overlooked is a third view of Hell; Universalism. This view asserts that all people will eventually be saved either in this life or the next. How does the case for Annihilationism fare compared to the case for universalism? Episode 117: Is The New Testament Historically Reliable?
Are the gospels historically reliable? Many skeptics would argue that they are not. They will say they’re embellished tales of a man named Jesus at best and outright fairy tales at worst. But is that where the evidence truly points? This episode’s guest, Dr. Craig Blomberg would say no. In this episode, Evan Minton and Craig Blomberg discuss the evidence for the reliability of the New Testament gospels. Episode 115: Does The Old Testament Paint God In A Bad Light? - With Paul Copan
Is The God of The Old Testament a bloodthirsty, slave owning, narcissistic entity? Many skeptics of The Bible would argue that is. How could a good God command the genocide of the Canaanites? How could He regulate slavery instead of outright ban it? Does that mean God is ok with slavery? If so, how could we worship such a God; a God who thinks humans should be owned as property? And what about that strange episode where some youths mock Elijah and God calls two she-bears to attack them on Elijah’s behalf? Episode 114: Discussing The Origin Of Life - With Hugh Ross and Fuz Rana
The origin of the first life: how did it happen? What caused it? Was it the result of blind natural processes or was an intelligent Creator behind it? Episode 113: The Case For The Historicity Of The Old Testament - With Kristen Davis
What evidence is there for the events of The Old Testament? Skeptics of The Bible say the events in scripture are the stuff of fairy tales, but what if the archeological record reveals something much different? This episodes guest, Kristen Davis, shows that there's more testimony to the events of The Old Testament than just the ink on the pages of your Bible. There's external evidence that these events happened as well. Episode 111: The Angel Of The Lord - With Douglas Van Dorn and Matt Foreman
Have you ever wondered if Jesus appeared in the Old Testament in more than just the predictive prophecies about him? Does the Old Testament present us with a Unitarian picture of God until the New Testament comes around and gives us more Revelation and tells us that God is actually a trinity after all? Or can traces of trinitarian thought be found in the Old Testament? Douglas Van Dorn and Matt Foreman wrote a book titled "The Angel of The Lord” which gives answers to all of these. And in this episode, Mr. Minton interviews Dorn and Foreman about their book and they discuss some of its contents. “The Angel Of The Lord: A Biblical, Historical, and Theological Study” by Douglas Van Dorn and Matt Foreman —> https://www.amazon.com/Angel-LORD-Biblical-Historical-Theological/dp/1735003808 "A Dissertation Concerning the Angel Who Is Called the Redeemer” by Peter Allix, edited by Douglas Van Dorn —> https://www.amazon.com/Dissertation-Concerning-Called-Redeemer-Scripture/dp/0986237655/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=&fbclid=IwAR2s-wonxdZCNptq8IcLui0wnonw1qdSzCy9YzcyjVNHLuByDaTZdm3Qp2k "The Worship of the Lord Jesus in the Old Testament” - Gerard De Gols, edited by Douglas Van Dorn --> https://www.amazon.com/Worship-Jesus-Testament-Christ-Scripture/dp/0986237671/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1623269124&sr=1-12&fbclid=IwAR2LfhAYHzn2lXyDf9tc5loB1n2KD6UO7yftHB780j4FHYMeQZPnb8CE4Dk

Episode 107: On God's Freedom To Love
Does God have freedom to choose to love or not love? If not, then doesn't that defeat The Free Will Defense against the problem of evil; that God prefers a world of free creatures over a world of puppets because only a world of free creatures makes love possible? But if God can choose not to love us, then that means love is essential to who God is. But surely love IS essential to a Maximally Great Being. What should we do? Episode 99: (Mis)interpreting Genesis - With Ben Stanhope
The Creation Museum in Kentucky makes claims about cosmic and human origins such as the earth is 6,000 years old, made in 6, 24 hour days, and most surprisingly, that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time until they went extict some thousands of years ago. But how accurate are their claims? How accurate are their arguments? What about the archeological evidence of dinosaurs that lived alongside them? Did The Bible really mention dinosaurs? Episode 98: Is God A Misogynist? - With David Wilber
Is God a misogynist? Does he think women are inferior to men? Many modern day feminists and secularists seem to think so? But does he? If not, then why was a woman forced to marry her rapist in Deuteronomy 22:28-29? Why did God say that women should be quiet in church and not be allowed to teach in 1 Timothy 2? Why did God allow polygamy? If God really is no respecter of persons, how do we explain these things? And is there any positive evidence in The Bible that God considered men and women equal? This podcast's guest, David Wilber, has written a book dedicated to this very subject. Episode 91: How Divine Council Theology Makes Sense Of The Book Of Job
The book of Job has long puzzled many Bible readers. It looks as though God's only reason for allowing Satan to torment Job is to win a bet against him. But perhaps the reason it appears this way is that we often think of the people in the conversation of Job 1 and 2 as just being God and Satan with Satan saying "I'll bet Job will curse you to your face if you removed the blessings you've given him" with God saying "That's not true. And I'll prove it to you." There's a third party in the discussion; The Divine Council a.k.a the heavenly host, a.k.a The Sons Of God. I believe that when this third party is taken into account, the whole picture changes. Episode 87: Does The Bible Teach That Jesus Is God?
A recent poll came out saying that 30% of "Evangelicals" do not believe that Jesus is God, but just a good moral teacher. This is disturbing as belief in the deity of Jesus Christ is one of the essential tenets of Christianity. In this episode, Evan Minton will defend from The Bible the claim that Jesus is God, looking at three categories of evidence (1) Places The New Testament Authors Explicitly Say That Jesus Is God, (2) Jesus' own claims to be God, and (3) Titles Old Testament Authors Used Of Yahweh Which The New Testament Authors Apply To Jesus. Episode 84: The Biblical Case Against Limited Atonement
In Episode 80 of this podcast, Evan Minton gave a syllogistic argument that God loves all people and that Jesus died for all people called "The Maximally Great Argument Against Calvinism". The argument was philosophical in nature, and yet each of the premises could be backed by scripture as well. However, there are also explicit passages in scripture that state that Jesus died for all. So one can go the roundabout way through Perfect Being Theology or just read The Bible. In this episode, Mr. Minton makes the biblical case for unlimited atonement; the view that Jesus died to atone for the sins of all people. The atonement is unlimited provisionally and limited in application. This is contrary to what Calvinists teach; that Jesus only died for the sins of the elect (i.e individuals God chose to unconditionally elect from eternity past). He examines many coherence objections Calvinists make such as that Arminian soteriology makes God a failure, that unlimited atonement entails universalism, and he takes on The Double Jeopardy Argument. He also takes head on passages Calvinists try to use to positively prove that Jesus only died for the sins of the elect. Listen to this episode and you will see that The Bible is not on the Calvinist's side when it comes to the extent of the atonement. Episode 83: What Does Romans 9 Really Say?
Romans 9 is a favorite proof text of Calvinists to support their idea of unconditional election. But is that what the text is really saying? Is Paul teaching that God only wants some saved and others damned, and chastises anyone who dare say that such a thing is unjust? In this episode, Mr. Minton shows how, when Romans 9 is taken in context with the rest of Paul's letter, a very different interpretation emerges.

Episode 80: The Maximally Great Argument Against Calvinism
I wrote a blog post a couple of years ago titled “The Maximally Great Argument For Arminianism” which attempted to show that God’s universal salvific will logically flows out of Perfect Being Theology. The argument was formulated on my part out of frustration to convince Calvinists that God loves all people, wants all people to be saved, and desires salvation for all people. It doesn’t matter how many passages you point to that assert this in plain English (and plain Greek for that matter), they will find a way to twist them all to mean something other than what any objective interpreter would take them to mean. In this episode, I defend that argument. My Blog War with Ed Dingess. Episode 76: Three Surprising Places Divine Council Theology Shows Up In The Bible
Why did Naaman want to take dirt back to him to Syria after being healed of his leprosy in The Jordan River? Why did Satan think he owned the kingdoms of the world and could give them to Jesus in exchange for a little worship? Is the book of Acts just about The Holy Spirit enabling people to speak other languages while doing an end-run around Rosetta Stone? All three of these incidents tie into what happens at The Tower of Babel, talked about in last week's episode. You won't want to miss this fascinating episode about how seemingly disconnected episodes tie into the events of Babel.

Episode 75: Genesis 10-11: The Tower Of Babel, The Fall Of The gods, and The Divine Council Worldview
You may think you know the story of The Tower Of Babel, but you might be surprised at what your Sunday school teacher didn't tell you. There's a lot more going on in this narrative than mere prideful humans trying to build a tower to Heaven and a confusion of languages by God. In this podcast episode, Evan Minton finishes off his series on the Primeval History period of The Bible by reading his paper "Genesis 10-11: The Tower Of Babel, The Fall of The gods, and The Divine Council Worldview." Episode 72: Genesis 6: The Nephilim – Descendents Of Cain, Neanderthals, Ancient Kings, or Angel-Human Hybrids?
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.’ The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” - Genesis 6:1-4 (ESV) This text has fascinated Bible students for centuries. Who and what are the Nephillim? Who are these “Sons of God” who go into “The daughters of men” in order to produce them? And how is this in anyway related to the great deluge the rest of the passage and subsequent chapters narrate? There are 5 different interpretations of The Nephillim that scholars opt for: (1) The Sethite Interpretation, (2) The Neanderthal Interpretation, (3) The Ancient Kings Interpretation, and (4) The Angelic Hybrid interpretation. In this paper, in today's episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast, Mr. Minton will argue that that last alternative is the most likely to be true. It explains all of the data whereas the others fall short. 900 year old men? Absurd right? Well, what if The Bible's long ages in Genesis 5 aren't so absurd if we realize that ancient authors put special significance in numbers. Perhaps the long ages weren't meant to be taken literally. In this episode, Minton reads another paper installment of his Primeval History Paper series. Episode 69: Genesis 2 & 3: Adam and Eve As Archetypes, Priests In The Garden Of Eden, and The Fall.
In this episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast, Evan Minton will read his paper "Genesis 2 & 3: Adam and Eve As Archetypes, Priests In The Garden Of Eden, and The Fall". The paper makes an exegetical case for the following propositions (1) that Genesis 2 is a sequel to Genesis 1. (2) that Genesis 2 does not teach that Adam and Eve were de novo creations, but instead, that the accounts that speak of them being formed from dust and rib are features of archetypology. These facts of being formed from dust and Rib are not just true of Adam and Eve, but it is true of all of us. All men are made from the dust and all women are made from the side of men. Thus, Genesis 2 is not describing material human origins, rather it is describing aspects of human identity. (3) that Adam and Eve were not mere gardeners in an ancient sinless resort, but served as Priests in sacred space, (4) The serpent was a divine being and this explains why Eve didn’t find having a conversation with it odd, (5) that the sin Adam and Eve committed was not eating from The Tree Of Knowledge, but eating of The Tree Of Knowledge outside of God’s timing and for the wrong motives. (6) God’s curse of the serpent wasn’t a removal of his legs and giving him a diet of dust, (7) that while population genetics rules out all people being genetic descendants of Adam and Eve, it doesn’t preclude us from being their genealogical descendants. Episode 68: Genesis 1: Functional Creation, Temple Inaguration, and Anti-Pagan Polemics
In this episode, Evan Minton reads the first paper in his series of papers; The Primeval History Paper series. In this part of the series, Mr. Minton argues that contrary to being an account of natural history (whether taking place over 24 hour days or billions of years), Genesis 1 was never meant to be read as an account of material origins. Instead, Genesis 1 was meant to be read as an account of FUNCTIONAL origins over a 7 day period AFTER a period of material creation that preceded it. Moreover, this assigning of functions God does takes place for 7 days in which God inaugurates the universe to be His temple. These are the two main focuses of the text; God setting up the cosmos and His cosmic temple and assigning functions to everything. However, the author of Genesis also made it a point to take jabs at the pagan creation stories of his day while he was at it. Episode 64: Eternal Universe Models - Going For The Philosophical Jugular
What happens if you're using The Kalam Cosmological Argument with an atheist and he throws out a cosmological model that might seem as though the universe always existed, thus premise 2 ("The universe began to exist") is false? What happens if you have never heard of it before? What happens if there either no scientific problems with the model, or at the very least you don't know what those problems are? In this episode, Mr. Minton will show you how you can respond to such challenges to the Kalam by "Going after the philosophical jugular". Did humans and dinosaurs live around the same time? Many in the Young Earth camp would argue that they did, and they went extinct either in the Genesis 6-9 flood, or they got on Noah's Ark and died out sometime after that. Those who accept Old Earth models of origins argue that dinosaurs died out millions of years before man came on the scene. What does the scientific evidence say? What does The Bible say? Originally formulated by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and developed and defended by modern-day apologist Dr. William Lane Craig, The Argument from Contingency argues that the explanation for why there is something rather than nothing is to be found in the creative will of God. Episode 49: The Genealogical Adam and Eve - Interview With S. Joshua Swamidass
Science has shown that Adam and Eve, if they were real people couldn't have been de novo creations. Science has shown that there was never a population size smaller than 10,000 individuals. We couldn't have all descended from an original couple. Right? Well, contrary to popular belief, you can affirm the de novo Adam and Eve, that all people descended from Adam and Eve, and moreover, that Darwin's theory of evolution (or common ancestry) is true. In this interview, Evan Minton interviews S. Joshua Swamidass of PeacefulScience.org about his soon-to-be-released book "The Genealogical Adam and Eve: The Surprising Science Of Universal Ancestry". Episode 44: Darwinian Evolution and A Historical Adam are Compatible
Darwin VS. Moses, The Origin Of Man VS. The Book of Genesis, Science VS. Faith. Most people seem to think that you've got to have one or the other. If one is right the other is wrong. As we've seen in Evan Minton's series on Genesis, this is not true regarding the first chapter of Genesis, but what about the second chapter? Does Genesis 2 present a view of human origins that is hopelessly at odds with what we know from biology, genetics, paleontology and anthropology? How can someone accept The Bible and science at the same time if the scientific evidence seems to favor a view of human origins The Bible contradicts? Should we reject science or should we reject The Bible? In this podcast episode, Mr. Minton's answer is: NEITHER! You neither have to deny the truth of Genesis 2 nor reject what science says. The two, when properly understood, are compatible.

Episode 39: The Cosmic Temple Inaguration View Of Genesis 1
Genesis 1 is one of the most widely disputed passages of The Old Testament. What is Genesis saying? In this episode, Evan Minton argues that Genesis 1 is not an account of natural history/material origins. Rather, Genesis 1 is about functional origins and about God inaugurating the universe as His temple in a time period of 7-24 hour days. God assigned functions to the things mentioned in Genesis 1 as part of inaugurating His "Cosmic Temple" which He took up His "rest" in at the end of the 7 day account. Minton believes that science is not conflict nor CAN be with Genesis 1 because Genesis 1 is not offering an account of material origins. Whatever account of material origins science offers cannot be rejected on the basis of science.

Episode 38: The Creation Battle - Interview With Daniel Eaton
How did such a wonderful text as Genesis 1 become such a bloodied battleground? Why is there such emotionally charged rhetoric and disdain from over a chapter of The Bible? Are these battles over how to correctly read Genesis one we are called to win at all cost, or can one be a faithful Christian and have freedom to explore various options? This episode's guest, Daniel Eaton, argues that the damage that quarrels over Genesis 1 within the body of Christ is not worth the benefit of winning someone to one particular interpretation of a biblical passage. He believes we should abandon the fight over whether the Bible teaches young-earth versus old-earth or miracle versus natural processes. Episode 35: The Rabbi On The Mount - Interview With Phil Weingart
You can’t interpret scripture properly without understanding its context. When Jesus spoke, Judaism was the context. In today's episode, Evan Minton interviews Phil Weingart about his book "The Rabbi On The Mount: How Jesus' Judaism Helps To Clarify The Sermon On The Mount". “'The Rabbi on the Mount' presents details from history, scripture, and the writings of the Jewish sages of Jesus’ day that illuminate what Jesus would have meant by many of the things He said in the Sermon and explain how His students would have taken His words. Learning the facts about Jesus’ Jewish culture and religion sheds much-needed light on this crucial teaching by the Master."

Episode 34: The Story Of The Cosmos - Interview With Daniel Ray
Psalm 19:1-4 says "The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the works of His hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech and night after night, they reveal knowledge. There are no words. Their voice is not heard. Yet their voice goes throughout the Earth and their words to the ends of the world." The scientist Johannes Kepler considered science to be "thinking God's thoughts after Him". Unfortunately, our secularized culture has caused many to view the universe not as the brilliant handiwork of an Engineer, Mathematician, and Artist, but simply the outworkings of purposeless and blind processes. In this episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast, Mr. Minton interviews Daniel Ray. Ray is the general editor and contributor of "The Story Of The Cosmos: How The Heavens Declare God's Glory". Episode 33: Ancient Near Eastern Thought and The Old Testament - Interview With John Walton
Interpreting Scripture is about three things; context, context, context. There are different kinds of context when it comes to interpreting The Bible. There's "Immediate Context" which is to interpret a verse in light of the verses that come before and after, there's the context of scripture as a whole, and there's cultural context. When it comes to that last one, much homework needs to be done. Cultural context is reading a biblical passage the way it's original author and audience would have understood it, according to their cultural cognitive environment. Knowing the cultural context can sometimes let you see additional meaning to a passage or even to alert you to how you may have been reading something INTO the text something that was never there. In this episode, Evan Minton interviews Leading Old Testament scholar John Walton on his book "Ancient Near Eastern Thought and The Old Testament" which helps people to do just that. Episode 28: Is Hell A Hellacious Doctrine?
The doctrine of Hell is a stumbling block for many people. To many, it just doesn't seem possible for God to be perfectly good yet sentence people to an eternity of torment. In this episode, Evan Minton talks about the doctrine of Hell and addresses a variety of objections to it such as "How could God punish people infinitely long for sins of finite significance?", "How could God send infants to Hell?" "How could God be just if He punishes all sins equally?" and "What happens to those who die without ever hearing the gospel?" Episode 27: Is The Problem Of Evil Really A Problem?
If God is all powerful and all good, why doesn't He stop evil and suffering? The answer that atheists think most plausibly answers this question is that either God is not all powerful, not all good, or doesn't even exist! This is one of the sharpest arrows in the atheists' quiver. Nevertheless, while it has prima facie persuasive power, it withers under scrutiny, and Evan Minton will show that in today's podcast episode. There are three versions of the problem of evil. Two of them are intellectual in nature and one of them is emotional in nature. In this podcast episode, Evan Minton will refute all three of them.

Episode 23: The FreeThinking Argument - Interview with Tim Stratton
Atheists pride themselves on being "Free Thinkers", but if atheism, and particularly the naturalistic version of it is true, can they or anyone else really be free thinkers? The guest in this episode is Tim Stratton of FreeThinking Ministries (www.freethinkingministries.com) says that if naturalism is true, no one, be they atheist or theist, can be free thinkers. He defends an argument called The FreeThinking Argument, which was the topic of his Master's Thesis at Biola University. -------------- To help you keep up with the discussion, I've included the steps of the argument in the show notes. 1: If naturalism is true, the immaterial soul does not exist. 2: If the immaterial soul does not exist, then libertarian free will does not exist. 3: If libertarian free will does not exist, then rationality and knowledge do not exist. 4: Rationality and knowledge exist. 5: Therefore, libertarian free will exists. 6: Therefore, the soul exists. 7: Therefore, naturalism is false. 8: The best explanation for the existence of the soul is the biblical God.

Logical fallacies are mistakes in thinking and argumentation. When a fallacy occurs, one's argument is a failure, and one is unjustified in believing said argument's conclusion on the basis of said argument. To learn how to avoid falling for someone's fallacious argument and to avoid coming up with fallacious arguments on your own, you need to know what the list of fallacies are to better help spot them. Episode 20: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 5: Answering Unanswered Questions
This is the conclusion of a 5 part series on the resurrection of Jesus. In this finale of the series, Evan Minton answers some questions that commonly come up during his discussions with skeptics on the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. "Why didn't Jesus appear to Pilate and the Pharisees?", "Why does Mark's gospel end with no post-mortem appearances?", "Why don't more historical sources mention Jesus if He existed?", and others are questions that Mr. Minton addresses in this podcast episode. Finally, for anyone who has been persuaded by the arguments and evidence in this podcast series, Mr. Minton closes with a mini-sermon on how to move from merely acknowledging the truth of Christianity to saving faith. Episode 19: The Case For Jesus’ Resurrection - Part 4: The Antecedent Probability Objection
When skeptics fail at finding a naturalistic theory to account for the minimal facts, they resort to a different tactic. In this episode, Mr. Minton responds to the argument that the resurrection of Jesus is so improbable, that the evidence given in favor of it is just simply not good enough to overcome that probability. This is known as "The Antecedent Probability Objection". Mr. Minton will argue that all of the evidence we have is indeed strong enough to overcome the a-prior probability against miraculous resurrections. Episode 18: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 3: The Best Explanation For The Minimal Facts
This is part 3 of 3 of a series on the historical case for Jesus' resurrection. In part 2, Evan Minton used The Principles/Criteria Of Authenticity that he laid out in part 1 to come to the conclusion that 5 propositions are historically true; (1) Jesus died by crucifixion, (2) Jesus was found empty the following Sunday morning, (3) His disciples sincerely believed that Jesus appeared to them alive after His death, (4) a church persecutor named Paul converted on the basis of what He perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus, and (5) that a skeptic named James converted to Christianity on the basis of what he perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus. How does one best explain these 5 historical facts? Did Jesus rise from the dead? Maybe, but perhaps we should see if a natural explanation works first before we conclude that. In this episode, Evan Minton comes to the best explanation by means of a process of elimination. He eliminates all of the bad explanations until only one remains. Episode 17: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 2; The Minimal Facts
In the previous episode, Mr. Minton explained the historical methodology he would be taking in defending certain facts about Jesus as actually being true, historical facts. He explained that he would be employing "The criteria of authenticity" to The New Testament just as non-Christian historians and scholars do in their examination of the historical Jesus. He then went on to argue that the historical Jesus believed himself to be divine. However, why should we believe him? After all, anyone can claim to be God, but that doesn't make it true. This is where the resurrection comes into play. If Jesus died and rose from the dead, then that is pretty good evidence that He was telling the truth. God would not raise someone who committed identity theft against him, knowing that doing so would validate those claims. In this episode, Evan Minton defends "The 5 Minimal Facts" surrounding the death of Jesus upon which an inference to the historicty of His miraculous resurrection can be made. The minimal facts are (1) Jesus died by crucifixion. (2) Jesus' tomb was found empty the following Sunday morning, (3) His disciples sincerely believed that Jesus appeared to them after His death, (4) A church persecutor named Saul Of Tarsus converted to Christianity on the basis of what He perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus, and (5) That a skeptic named James converted to Christianity on the basis of what he perceived to be an appearance of the risen Jesus. How do we know these facts are facts? Listen to this episode to hear the evidence. Episode 16: The Case For Jesus' Resurrection - Part 1, The Criteria Of Authenticity & Jesus' Divine Self-Understanding
This podcast episode is the beginning of a series in which Evan Minton makes a case that the Jesus of history and the Jesus of faith are the same Jesus. Minton argues that (1) Jesus claimed to be God,(2) died on the cross and (3) rose from the dead. In the first half of this episode he explains the methodology he'll be employing, as understanding the methodology is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and to keep opponents from attacking straw men. The second half employs that methodology to the documents written about Jesus from the first century to make the case that Jesus of Nazareth believed that He was God incarnate. Episode 14: The Case For Nero Caesar Being The Beast Of Revelation
Who is the anti-Christ? Who is the beast of Revelation? Many people over the past few decades have been identified as the anti-Christ such as Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Ronald Reagan, The Pope (or some future pope) and even Barack Obama! All of this speculation about who the anti-Christ or the beast is all hinge on the same presupposition: that the beast is yet to come. But what if that presupposition is false? What if the beast isn't some future person, but a first century figure who's already come and gone? Episode 13: The Case For The Preterist Reading Of Matthew 24
Jesus' sermon in Matthew 24, also known as the Olivet Discourse, is one of the many biblical passages that comes up during discussions of the end times. Most Christians however, presuppose that everything Jesus prophesies has not yet been fulfilled, it's still in our future. This makes some excited when blood moons occur, when they watch the news and see all of the turmoil in the world, the "wars and rumors of wars", "famines and earthquakes in various places", and people who claim to be Jesus (because Jesus said near the end that many would say "I am The Christ") etc. But what if all of the end times speculation built around Matthew 24 is built upon a false presupposition? What if, in fact, Matthew 24 has already been fulfilled? In this podcast episode, Evan Minton will read his paper "The Case For The Preterist Reading Of Matthew 24" which argues that The Olivet Discourse was completely fulfilled by the end of the first century. Episode 12: The Soteriological Case For Molinism
In this week's episode, Mr. Minton reads aloud his paper "The Soteriological Case For Molinism". Molinism is a theological system that seeks to account for divine sovereignty and human freedom. Molinism is the view that God uses His knowledge of what any free creature would freely choose in any given circumstance to orchestrate every event that occurs without violating human freedom in the process. In last week's episode, Mr. Minton showed that The Bible teaches that human beings have libertarian free will, that God has middle knowledge, and that God meticulously controls all things. He showed how only Molinism can fully harmonize and account for all 3 biblical teachings. In the paper Mr. Minton is reading in this week's episode, he shows that The Bible teaches several facts about the doctrine of salvation, and that, while traditional Arminianism and traditional Calvinism can account for SOME of these biblical teachings on the doctrine of salvation, they fall short of explaining ALL of The Biblical data. Calvinists and Arminians often have to downplay or explain away some of the biblical texts. Molinism can account for everything The Bible teaches concerning soteriology. It doesn't have to explain away any biblical passage. Therefore, Christians who want to embrace the whole word of God ought to affirm it. Episode 10: The Case For Mere Molinism
If God is in control, how can human beings have free will? On the other hand, if human beings don't have free will, how can God hold us morally accountable for the things that we do? The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all things but also that human being are genuinely free to make decisions. The Bible itself doesn't give us the answer of how these two biblical teachings can both be true. To harmonize them is the task of systematic theology, not biblical theology. Molinism is a theological system that seeks to account for divine sovereignty and human freedom. Molinism is the view that God uses His knowledge of what any free creature would freely choose in any given circumstance to orchestrate every event that occurs without violating human freedom in the process. In this podcast episode, Mr. Minton reads aloud his paper "The Case For Mere Molinism" which shows that out of all the theological systems on the table, only Molinism can account for the entirety of scripture's teachings. Episode 5: The Local Fine-Tuning Argument For God's Existence
In this episode, Evan Minton will talk about how improbable it is for our planet to be suitable for advanced life. The size of the Earth, the size of the moon, the size of the sun, the rotation speed of Earth, the amount of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere, and many other parameters had to come together to make our planet habitable. What is the best explanation of this? Did these things all come together by mere chance? Or was this result of a divine plan?

Episode 4: The Fine-Tuning Argument For God's Existence
In this episode, Evan Minton goes over a scientific subject known as The Cosmic Fine-Tuning. Episode 3: The Kalam Cosmological Argument For God's Existence (Part 2)
This is part 2 of a 2 part episode on The Kalam Cosmological Argument for God's Existence. In the previous podcast episode, Evan Minton laid out the premises of the argument; (1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause, (2) The universe began to exist, (3) Therefore the universe has a cause, and explained why the type of cause has to be God. In this episode, Evan Minton will be addressing a myriad of objections that atheist detractors have lodged against the argument in an attempt to refute it. The Kalam argument seems like a good argument at face value, but does it hold up under scrutiny? Listen to this episode to find out!

Episode 2: The Kalam Cosmological Argument For God's Existence (Part 1)
Many would be surprised to know that there are good reasons to believe that God exists. You don't have to take God's existence on blind faith alone. There's evidence for God. The Kalam Cosmological Argument is one of them. This argument, initially formulated by the 11th century philosopher Al Ghazali and popularized by contemporary philosopher Dr. William Lane Craig, argues to the existence of a Creator from the law of causality and the fact that the universe had a beginning to its existence out of nothing. (1) Whatever Begins To Exist Has A Cause. (2) The Universe Began To Exist. (3) Therefore, The Universe Has A Cause.
