Ol Burger Beats on the Boom Bap Chat
Our guest today is amazing. Hands down one of my favorite producers out right now. His sound is jazzy, laid back. It is like what I would imagine Digable Planets sounding like in 2024. He has recently put out an incredible piece of art called 74: Out of Time featuring a host of emcees, Awon, ill Camille, vic Spencer, pink siifu, billy woods, tha God Fahim, Fly Anakin, Cooley High and many more. It might just be my favorite jazzy production since the era of Disable Planets and De LA Soul and the Native Tongues. It is a remarkable project that we are going to jump into right now with our guest, the one and only, Ol’ Burger Beats! https://olburgerbeats.bandcamp.com/album/74-out-of-time The Boom Bap Chat is a podcast that explores Hip-Hop music and the people who create it. iomos marad, Profound, MC Till, and sometimes Beau Brown and Joe November discuss lyrics, production, classic albums, building community, and much more with a mix of legendary and up and coming artists. Jamil Honesty making amends with his father, a near death experience, dope Hip-Hop, and much more!
The Boom Bap Chat welcomes a new Hip-Hop titan to the show. His output recently has been nothing short of excellent. He is able to present deep, layered content in straightforward way. His music is both soulful and gritty and cuts through the saturation of music content these days. His music sticks out from most music simply because it is better than most music. During the interview Jamil shares about making amends with his father before he passed, having a near death experience being shot and mugged in front of his home, and rifts on legendary Hip-Hop albums. SkyBlew talks Anime, his most recent album, and much more!
Remember the feeling you got listening to Biz Markie, The Beastie Boys, Digital Underground, or The Native Tongues? The music was fun, often times very light-hearted. Our guest tonight gives that feeling. His music is jazzy, it is boom bap, it is soulful, and it is positive. And it is dope. His most recent album “A Soulful Taste of Jazz: The Royal Blew Experience” came in at #17 on our top 100 albums of 2023. It is a fresh offering of cool lyricism over jazzy beats. Fred Lynch & P.I.D. on the Boom Bap Chat
Hip-Hop is everywhere now, but that was not the case when Fred Lynch started a group that would become PID (Preachers in Disguise). He took Hip-Hop into a place where it was often not welcomed: The Church. And preached Jesus in a way that was pretty much unheard of: Through Hip-Hop music. By dedication and following a real sense of calling, Fred helped usher in a new sub genre of Hip-Hop, Christian Hip-Hop. Tonight we get to hear about his journey, the journey of King Solomon J, and Ace One the MC, and also discuss the current and future state of the Christian Hip-Hop movement and more. Let’s get to it. Denmark Peoples talks about his new album, street level activism, and more.
One day I (MC Till) was just minding my business when I saw this fresh looking emcee doing his thing on instagram. I clicked on something then clicked on something else and soon I found myself listening to “Same Love as Drug Dealers.” First the title alone drew me in. Then, the beats. They were mostly boom bap and also had an eclectic feel but the album remained cohesive. And then, the subject matter and how our guest tonight delivers his words. He is vulnerable one moment, expressing universal pain of loss and disappointment. Then, the next moment he is uplifting and sending us timely messages to make us better. We talk about that album and more in this episode of The Boom Bap Chat with Denmark Peoples. Shortie No Mass talks about Buhloone Mindstate, her new album, and giving the fans what they want!
Shortie No Mass talks extensively about her involvement with Buhloone Mindstate. She was there at all the sessions ready to lend adlibs, a verse, whatever De La wanted. She basically lived with royalty both in Philadelphia with members of The Roots and then in NYC with the Beatminerz. Her story is one of love and passion for an art-form she never let control her. In this interview she also touches on working with her son who is producing her new album along with Posdnous's brother, Lucky and where she would buy property if she could buy anything anywhere in the world. She has a very specific answer for that! Tune in and find out!

YaH-Ra on the Boom Bap Chat #97
YaH-Ra is dope. She can sing. She can rap. Her music is fresh, intelligent, and spiritual. It can be light with a Native Tongues vibe or darker like something you might hear from Griselda. Lately she has been on a darker sound that juxtaposes her smooth, engaging voice with more sinister sounding production. She has her own styles and utilizes them all well. Check out the conversation we had with her and then find her work at https://yahmusic.bandcamp.com/music Then check out Everybody’s Hip-Hop and all our adventures at https://linktr.ee/everybodyshiphop
