|OFF-O11| Recognition of Work and Stats
Hello Exam Seekers, As I’ve mentioned a while ago, I’ve been pretty busy lately. It is all demanding… I am glad about the results I’ve been having. So if you want to check out the results.... listen to the podcast! This episode is also available as a blog post: http://exam-seekers.com/recognition-of-work-and-stats/ Don’t forget to follow me on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. |OFF-005| Why is it important to teach pronunciation?
Hello Exam Seekers, Today's post focuses on something that most people - and even teachers - take for granted: PRONUNCIATION! People tend to think that teaching pronunciation is the easiest thing to do. After all, it is not neglected since you always write the words that the students spell incorrectly on the side and spare some minutes of your lesson to correct their pronunciation, right? Are you sure that this is teaching pronunciation? Books to help you with pronunciation: English Pronunciation in Use by CUP. Introducing English Pronunciation: A Teacher's Guide to Tree or Three? and Ship or Sheep? by Ann Baker. Jazz Chants(r): Student Book by Carolyn Graham. English Pronunciation Illustrated by John Trim. |CELTA-015d| Preparing a Lesson Plan [PART 4: Board Plan]
Hello Exam Seekers, As I mentioned in the previous CELTA Lesson Plan posts, I was teaching a Listening Lesson based on authentic material. Students were supposed to watch a video called Travel Tips: Real Discounts on Airfare Found by Sonia Gil and grasp information from it. These are the steps of my lesson plan:  Part 1: Describe the lesson (add information about the type of lesson, number of students, time, etc.); Part 2: Language Analysis (write about the language you will use in class – vocab/grammar); Part 3: Procedures / Steps (write how you will develop the lesson dividing it into stages, grouping, and timing); Part 4: Board Plan (preplan your board to keep it organized); Part 5: Handouts (prepare the material you will use in class). Today, I’m talking about the fourth step: Board Plan. Hello ExamSeekers, The past few Fridays, I’ve been posting about the CELTA Course. Last Friday, more specifically, I talked about the CELT-P (Certificate in English Language Teaching – Primary). The CELT-P and the CELT-S are different versions of the CELTA Course (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). While the CELTA Course is a course focused on preparing teachers to teach adults, the CELT-P  is an online teaching qualification with teaching practice for primary school EFL teachers working with learners aged 6-12. And the CELT-S is for secondary school EFL teachers working with learners aged 11-18. I have already posted a text talking about the differences between the CELTA-YLE, CELT-P, and CELT-S. Hello ExamSeekers, Let’s talk about the #Cambridge #Assessment #English #B2First #Reading and #UseofEnglish Part 2 – #OpenCloze. This exercise has eight gaps in total. Each correct answer accounts for one mark. The main focus of this part is to test your knowledge of both grammar and vocabulary. Hello ExamSeekers, #TBT I have already mentioned that vacation is the period when most publishers and schools offer courses for teachers, due to their lack of time during the year with classes and paperwork (homework correction, class planning, etc.), and back then in 2019 when it was still possible to go to workshops in person was no different. So I took this workshop at @e4lenglish which was awesome. Hello ExamSeekers, As I may have mentioned before, I am taking a course on #BilingualEducation. Therefore, I decided to write a little about the topic. If you find it interesting, I’ll write more and more about it. As for today, I will talk a little about what #bilingualism is and some of its models. According to some authors specialized in the area, #bilingualism is not one stationary thing. There is still a considerable debate on it, so I will describe some types of bilingualism: additive, subtractive, recursive, and dynamic bilingualism. I will also talk about #monoglossic and #heteroglossic bilingual #education. Hello ExamSeekers, The #A2Movers, formerly known as Cambridge English: #Movers (#YLE Movers), is one of the #CambridgeEnglish Qualifications. It is the next step (after the Pre-A1 #Starters) of a child’s language learning journey. It is the second exam of a series of three. This exam is prepared specially for children ranging from 6 to 12 years old. As I mentioned in the previous text about the Pre A1 Starters, offering kids the opportunity to sit for these exams at a young age boosts their confidence. It also prepares them to deal better with any other examinations in the future. |EE–012a| B2: First – Reading and Use of English [Part 1A: Multiple-Choice Cloze]
Hello ExamSeekers, This is a #fillinthegap activity. It is basically a #text with missing information which you should complete with the provided words. It seems pretty simple, right? However, these texts usually come with similar words or #synonyms to trick you. Therefore you must study hard #collocations because this is what is going to save you. As you can see in the example, #Genealogy is a ______ of history. What we want to say here is that it is a part of history. If you look at the provided words (band, set, branch, series), we don’t have this word as an option, so we need to find one that is equivalent to “part”. Which word would be similar to “part” in this case? Exactly, branch. Hello ExamSeekers, It’s been a while since I post something about the C1 Advanced, but I decided to update some old content before bringing anything new. I wanted to check if the exams were all up to date and if I could add an extra tip for you! Part 1 of the C1 Advanced is the Multiple-choice cloze. It is divided into 2 pages. On the first page, you have a text with 8 numbered gaps, each of which represents a word or phrase. On the second page, there are the possible answers for each of the gaps. You have to choose one of the four alternatives (A, B, C or D). These possible answers are probably related to vocabulary (idioms, collocations, shades of meaning, phrasal verbs, fixed phrases, etc.). You get 1 mark for each correct answer. Listen to this episode to get some tips!
