Episode 45: How to Use Cannabidiol & Health Benefits of CBD with James Sol Radina

Episode 45: How to Use Cannabidiol & Health Benefits of CBD with James Sol Radina

Marijuana isn’t just about getting high; this plant has been used for thousands of years in Eastern Medicine, and now research can prove the medicinal benefits of tis plant. But now science has taken it a step further. We are able to get all the benefits of weed without getting high through the use of cannabidiol (CBD).

There is much confusion on this topic of CBD vs. weed. But our CBD expert James Sol Radina with BioCBD comes on the show to clear up the misinformation and help you learn about CBD. You see, cannabis is a family name that consists of the hemp plant (male part) and the marijuana plant (female). CBD is found in marijuana and hemp, as is THC. Although both CBD and THC are naturally found in cannabis plants, THC is the part that gets you high. CBD is used for medicinal purposes, without any anxiety or psychoactivity.

CBD from hemp is 100% legal in all 50 states and 40+ other countries. But like everything, all CBD products are not created equal. Some CBD oils have poor bioavailability, with only 5-10% of the CBD actually being used in your body. But CBD products like BioCBD are 100% bioavailable and are free from chemical additives. BioCBD products are naturally extracted from the hemp plant using curcumin, one of the world’s most powerful compounds on the planet.

In this episode, Dr. Zyrowski & James discuss the benefits of CBD extracts and CBD oils for everything from athletic recovery, sports performance, sleeping, pain, stress, anxiety, neurological disorders, and even cancer. They review just a few of the thousands of CBD healing stories, including Little Lance. He’s been 3 years bout free from his Chron’s disease thanks to CBD. James also reveals three different ways to utilize CBD and when to use each.

In this episode:

  • What is CBD? What is THC?
  • Why using cannabidiol does NOT make you high
  • The 100% legal way to get all the health benefits of weed without marijuana
  • What CBD really is and isn’t
  • Is CBD right for you?
  • The amazing therapeutic benefits CBD
  • Best way to use cannabidiol: Topically vs. Capsules vs. Vape Pens

Episode 42: Breakthrough Longevity Strategies – How Dan Sullivan is Defying Nature and Extending His Life

Episode 42: Breakthrough Longevity Strategies – How Dan Sullivan is Defying Nature and Extending His Life

If you knew the coordinates to the fountain of youth, would you make the trip? Who wouldn’t, right? It isn’t exactly the fountain of youth, but Dan Sullivan believes it to be the next best thing.

Dan Sullivan is the creator of his own Strategic Coaching Program based in Toronto, ON Canada. Dan started his coaching in 1989. Currently, he has approximately 3000 clients, 120 employees, and 15 other coaches.

In the age we live, new methods and procedures are being developed frequently; however, if you don’t have the mindset to take advantage then they won’t do you any good. Reprocessing your own stem cells & bi-passing pharmaceutical companies certainly affects their bottom lines. On top of that, things are becoming faster and more affordable. It is up to YOU - and YOU only - to take control of YOUR health.

Instead of letting Dan's success come as at the expense of his health, he fosters better health in his 70s than he did in his 30s. Dan constantly is searching out ways to optimize his health and cure the common signs of aging, so he can live well into his 100s.

 In this episode, you’ll learn…

Episode 41: The Hottest Anti-Aging Product on the Market + How Fitness Trackers Could Save Your Life

Episode 41: The Hottest Anti-Aging Product on the Market + How Fitness Trackers Could Save Your Life

Want to stay looking young and feeling young longer? Want to know the BEST anti-aging product on the market? Of course you do!

Collagen is a buzz topic right now, and for good reason. Collagen is “like the glue that holds us together”, as it is the primary building block of skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons, joints, and cartilage. As we age, the production of collagen slows and our skin begins to sag, our hair becomes brittle, and our joints begin aching. A vital way to rejuvenate your body and stay youthful is to supplement with collagen. Collagen is also renowned for its gut-healing properties. Tune in to figure out how to start using this superfood daily and which product to choose.

With the holiday season approaching, consider gifting health to your loved ones. Fitness trackers have come a long way in the last few years, and the data collected by them could save your life (or the life of your loved ones). The real-time data collected from fitness trackers can help you adjust your lifestyle to achieve more effective workouts, better health, more restful sleep, and a healthier heart. Dr. Zyrowski compares which fitness trackers are the best overall health trackers on the market.

Episode 40: Vitamin D + 5 Ways to Avoid the Flu and Thrive in the 4th Quarter

Episode 40: Vitamin D + 5 Ways to Avoid the Flu and Thrive in the 4th Quarter

Refuel with October’s signature fruit. The best defense against the flu (and it’s not the flu shot). All this and more we discuss in this week’s episode.

Dr. Zyrowski totes that pumpkins are more than just décor. Pumpkins contain nutrients such as alpha and beta-carotene, nutrients that are associated with longevity. Although you may have heard bananas being referenced as “nature’s energy bar”, cooked pumpkin actually has more refueling potassium. Potassium helps restore the body’s electrolytes post-workout, which is why Dr. Zyrowski encourages it’s consumption for optimal performance. Ashleigh gives cooking tips and recipe suggestions for using fresh pumpkin.

But don’t toss the seeds! Pumpkin seeds are little treasures that are extremely rich in zinc, magnesium, potassium, protein, essential fatty acids and B vitamins, which are important for immunity, energy, and balanced hormones.

With the seasonal change comes the threat of “seasonal” illnesses like colds and flus. But that’s just a myth. The truth is that we are exposed to viruses and bacteria every day of our lives; the thing determining who gets sick and who stays well is NOT the presence of the viruses or bacteria – it is the state of our IMMUNE FUNCTION. Dr. Zyrowski discuses the most effective way to keep your immune system in tip-top shape during the winter months so you can avoid the flu and thrive!

Episode 39: Quit Sugar - Why It’s Harmful & How To Stop Eating It

Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas…all three holidays revolve around sugar. Sugar is bitter-sweet. Sure, it tastes good, but what it does to your brain and your body is sickening, literally.

Sugar is an addictive substance that is linked to various types of disease, including weight loss resistance, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and more. Why? Because it single handedly drives inflammation in the body, throwing off your hormones, and wreaks havoc on nearly every system in your body.

But sugar hides in 74% of packaged food. What’s more, bread, rice, pasta, and cereal have the same effect on your body as sugar, contributing to the problem.

Want to know why you should quit sugar? Want to learn how to stop eating it? Then you’ll need to tune in this week’s episode.

Sugar hides under many names. In fact, there are at least 61 different names for sugar listed on food labels. These include:

High fructose corn syrup, barley malt, Barbados sugar, beet sugar, brown sugar, buttered syrup, can juice, cane sugar, caramel, corn syrup, corn syrup solids, confectioners sugar, carob syrup, castor sugar, date sugar, dehydrated can juice, demerara sugar, dextran dextrose, diastatic malt, diatase, ethyl maltol, free flowing brown sugar, fructose, fruit juice, fruit juice concentrate, glucose, glucose solids, golden sugar, grape sugar, honey, maple syrup, icing sugar, invert sugar, lactose , malt, maldextrin, maltose, malt syrup, molasses, muscovado, panocha, powdered sugar, raw sugar, refiners syrup, rice syrup, sorbitol, sorghum syrup, sucrose, sugar, treacle, sucralose

Episode 37: Sleep Your Way To Health | Why Sleep Is Your Ticket to Upgraded Health & Performance

Episode 37: Sleep Your Way To Health | Why Sleep Is Your Ticket to Upgraded Health & Performance

What if there was a way to wake up refreshed and energized every single morning? Would you do it? If your answer is yes, then you need to tune into this week’s episode. Dr. Zyrowski’s inspiration from this episode is his new book, Sleep Your Way To Health. He explains how sleep is a necessary nutrient to your body, and good quality sleep can help you reach your health goals, improve productivity and fend off disease.

Sleep is one of the most essential, yet undervalued, components of health. For you to have the life, energy, focus, and fulfillment you deserve, you must optimize your sleep.

Unfortunately, the struggle to get restful slumber is real for most Americans. You see, more than 70 million Americans don’t get quality sleep at night. Even if you’re lying in bed for 8 hours a night, chances are, you are not getting the restorative sleep that your body needs and is craving. This was true for Dr. Zyrowski. After the birth of his second child, his health was struggling. He was chronically sleep deprived and was experiencing high blood pressure, fatigue, and frequent migraines. By implementing the 13 sleep hacks that he teaches in his Sleep Your Way To Heath book, he regained his health, improved his productivity & focus, and maximized his athletic performance.

In his new book, Sleep Your Way To Health, Dr. Nick Zyrowski teaches you everything you need to know and gives you every resource necessary to get the best sleep of your life, including practical and easy-to-implement nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle strategies.

Episode 33: The #1 Self-Help Tool and Stress Solution with Dr. Arthur Ciaramicoli

Episode 33: The #1 Self-Help Tool and Stress Solution with Dr. Arthur Ciaramicoli

Most people are stressed. High achievers have even more stress than the average Joe. Stress causes the body to release cortisol, which causes chronic inflammation in the body, leading to things such as weight gain, hair loss, breakdown of muscle tissue, depression, anxiety, memory loss, and cancer. This is why it’s critical to find the solution to stress. The author of “The Stress Solution”, Dr. Arthur Ciaramicoli, states that by controlling negative thinking and eliminating cognitive distortion, we can see things as they are and not drive this stress response in the body.

To give you an idea of just how extreme this stress epidemic is, here are just a few of the statistics. 75% of Americans state that they suffer physically or psychologically from stress everyday. 75% of visits to primary care physicians last year were due to stress. And 50% of Americans state they wake up every night due to stress.

Those numbers are staggering. The stress epidemic has amplified dramatically in the last few years. Americans have fewer friends, trusts rates are down, prejudice rates are up, and empathy is down. “Being busy” is the definition of successful.

That’s why Dr. Arthur Ciaramicoli decided to write a book specifically to solve this daunting epidemic. Dr. Arthur and I discuss how stress is mainly caused by perception. Being able to perceive accurately is the key to decrease stress, says Dr. Arthur. Not only is stress psychological, there’s also a stress response that happens on a biological level. When we release the stress hormone cortisol on a regular basis, it causes negative thinking, inflammation, weight gain, hair loss, break down of muscle tissue, flabbiness, depression, anxiety and memory loss.

By being more empathetic, we can produce calming neurochemicals naturally. Dr. Arthur discusses the fact that Americans are medication-oriented, trying to fix internal problems with external agents. He states that it is critical to discover the cause. Through empathy and cognitive behavioral therapy, we can stop the stress response, while developing deeper relationships with those around us.

Currently in private practice, Dr. Ciaramicoli has been on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for several years, lecturer for the American Cancer Society, Chief Psychologist at Metrowest Medical Center, and director of the Metrowest Counseling Center and of the Alternative Medicine division of Metrowest Wellness Center in Framingham, Massachusetts.

In this episode…

  • Why stress has become a chronic problem in today’s world.
  • Stress is a driver of inflammation.
  • What stress does to the body.
  • Why high-achieving people are the most stressed and most likely to develop illnesses that stem from chronic stress and inflammation.
  • Empathy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are the most comprehensive self-help tool to date.
  • Sympathy vs. empathy.
  • Why certain people overreact to stressful situations.
  • Perception is key to reducing stress.
  • Six steps to become empathetic and develop deep, lasting relationship with those around you.

Episode 32: The Importance of Community & Identifying the True BioMarkers of Health with Jeremy Hendon

Episode 32: The Importance of Community & Identifying the True BioMarkers of Health with Jeremy Hendon

Jeremy Hendon and I share many of the same passions and interests, specifically those in the area of nutrition and human performance. Although everyone understands the “common sense” aspects of health (eat more vegetables, move more, drink water, etc.), there are some massive gaps in our health (sick) care system.

One of these “gaps” that we discuss is stress. Typically, we view stress as a purely psychological state. However, our entire biochemistry distorts when stressors are present. Stressors can include toxins, poor food choices, thoughts, traumas, and electromagnetic fields. But one stress that is less commonly discussed is our need for a community. Historically, humans lived in tribes. But with the agricultural revolution, the industrial revolution, and now the technological revolution, this changed. Although we may be constantly tweeting/snapchatting/instagramming, we are more alienated than ever. This is a massive source of stress.

Another “gap” is the biomarkers that mainstream medicine is looking to for measures of health and/or disease. Unfortunately, most doctors are still running the wrong tests and looking at the wrong data to access a person’s physical well-being. The true biomarkers of health can be obtained through functional lab tests, but these are being run by only a select group of practitioners, and are rarely financially covered by insurance companies. True biomarkers of health give a more accurate assessment of health, and can be used to prevent disease all together. This is why both Jeremy and I are so passionate about sharing this information, as it could the lives of hundreds, nay thousands of people.

Episode 31: Following Your Passion & Vital Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur with Alon Ozery

Episode 31: Following Your Passion & Vital Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur with Alon Ozery

Food is an investment in your health and your future. Alon Ozery’s philosophy of using quality ingredients and crafting them with heart has allowed him to grow his business idea into a successful corporation, while delivering good quality and good tasting food to people across the continent.

In this episode, I talk with Alon Ozery, owner of Ozery Bakery. With heaps of passion and heart, Ozery has taken an idea and turned it into a household name. You may have purchased a few of his products from Whole Foods, Trader Joes or Costco.  We personally love his Organic Morning Rounds…mm!!

In a traditional rags to riches type of story, Alon was the first entrepreneur in his family. With a clever business plan that he wrote while attending Ryerson University in Toronto, he approached his father with his idea to start a bakery selling. His father gave Alon his life savings and together they approached a bank for a loan to open a bakery. Alon opened his first business Ozery Bakery, which was a brand new business venture that he had little to no experience in.

He respected his heritage, and westernized pita breads with good quality ingredients, making and selling fresh sandwiches. Keeping family traditions and values at the core of their mission they grew to sell to breads to local natural health food stores. What started as a small (but profitable) business transformed into a 5,000 square foot commercial bakery with approximately 200 employees.

Part of their philosophy at Ozery Bakery is to imagine and come up with new products that are interesting, taste good, and are good for you. Sensitive to many foods himself, Ozery avoids the use of common toxic chemicals found in many baked breads in commercial grocery stores. This is why their products contain natural and organic ingredients.

But like every entrepreneur, there was a massive learning curve. Paving the way to open the bakery, open the commercial shop, and learn to bake commercially, Alon had to be on the ground and learn each and every aspect of his company. As every truly successful entrepreneur will tell you, you have to put your time in to understand all the processes of the company. “If you don’t do it, you won’t get it, “ says Ozery. The pattern he has seen in entrepreneurs is this: those who want to know it all, who don’t shy away from the hard work, those are the ones that will succeed.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows though. Some entrepreneurs like to put their best foot forward and aren’t honest about the struggles that they endured along the way. Not Alon! He talks about failure as a healthy part of the process. “You can’t succeed all the time and stay humble” he says. Alon is real and raw in this interview, talking about how 30% of the time, there is failure. But through the failure, he asks questions, learns from it, and pushes his company to a higher level. Fear of failure drives him, which is a common theme amongst entrepreneurs.

Another topic we inevitably dive into is the topic of food. His choice to found Ozery Bakery on the values of quality food was due to his personal food sensitivities and health struggles. Dr. Zyrowski elaborates on the difference between food allergies and food sensitivities, and how to distinguish if your body is reacting negatively to a certain food. Even healthy foods can be unhealthy for a specific person who has a sensitivity.

Alon Ozery and I discuss:

  • How he took an idea and transformed it into a large corporation
  • Pioneering a new project
  • Being motivated by fear and passion
  • Personality patterns of successful entrepreneurs
  • Food as an investment in your health

Episode 30: Defeating Chronic Pain Naturally, Posture’s Impact on Health, Entrepreneurial Mindset, and Anti-Aging Tactics with Brendan Ridings

Episode 30: Defeating Chronic Pain Naturally, Posture’s Impact on Health, Entrepreneurial Mindset, and Anti-Aging Tactics with Brendan Ridings

Brendan Riding’s passion is to teach people how to easily reverse chronic pain and correct their posture using simple biomechanics and exercise. Through is passion, he invented a back support device called Posture PT. This back support can be attached to any chair (office, home, or car), helping to maintain proper spinal posture, and therefore maximize overall function of the body.

Brendan has a wildly high success rate when working with potential surgery candidates. In fact, he’s helps 19 out of every 20 people avoid surgery through the lifestyle changes he recommends, including posture, dietary changes, exercises, stretches, and meditation. He makes a really important point: it’s not inevitable that you will age and deteriorate, needing medications and/or surgery. Surgery makes a lot of money. Proactive measures do not. So answers go in that direction.

Through talking with Brendan, I found out that poor posture (sitting in particular) has a stronger correlation to lowered life expectancy than smoking!

I’ve written about proper posture while using technology before, but this new information is staggering.

During our interview, he dives in to just how detrimental our sedentary lifestyle is to our health as a whole, causing hormone irregularities and structural aches and pains, all while aging us prematurely.

Ridings uses a great analogy about a car and how we must fundamentally fix the alignment of our body so we don’t wear down.

In addition to the lack of motion in our lives, our diets also play a significant role in aging our bodies by increasing inflammation and therefore the risk of illnesses like diabetes, cancer and heart disease. These “big killers” are rampant in our society, making the simple strategies that Brendan suggests in this podcast almost brainless.

Furthermore, he utilizes a meditation technique called Shambhavi Meditation, which he claims activates 20% of your brain, as opposed to the average 10%. Meditation, along with exercise, is one of the actions that stimulates the “feel good” neurochemical dopamine, while opening the receptors it acts upon. Besides being naturally more joyful, it helps those practicing this meditation to be less reactive to situations around them. This is a important, because keeping emotions in check allow you to make appropriate (business) decisions.

In this episode, Brendan and I discuss:

Episode 7: HIIT for Fat Loss + 5 Top HIIT Workouts

Episode 7: HIIT for Fat Loss + 5 Top HIIT Workouts

Learn how to get your perfect bathing suit body in the least amount of time possible. High intensity interval training (AKA HIIT) is the optimal way to exercise to turn your body into a fat burner because of its physiological effects on the body. You'll spend less time in the gym and more time burning fat outside of the gym. Jacqueline Schram and I discuss why it works and how to perform the Top 5 HIIT exercises.

Calculate Your Maximum Heart Rate

1. Subtract your age from 180.

2. Modify this number by selecting among the following categories the one that best matches your fitness and health profile:

a. If you have or are recovering from a major illness (heart disease, any operation or hospital stay, etc.) or are on any regular medication, subtract an additional 10.

b. If you are injured, have regressed in training or competition, get more than two colds or bouts of flu per year, have allergies or asthma, or if you have been inconsistent or are just getting back into training, subtract an additional 5.

c. If you have been training consistently (at least four times weekly) for up to two years without any of the problems just mentioned, keep the number (180–age) the same.

d. If you have been training for more than two years without any of the problems listed above, and have made progress in competition without injury, add 5.

For example, if you are thirty years old and fit into category (b), you get the following:

180–30=150. Then 150–5=145 beats per minute (bpm).
