Lessons From a Female Leader and Business Owner with Severine Petras, CEO at Priority Life Care

Lessons From a Female Leader and Business Owner with Severine Petras, CEO at Priority Life Care

In this week’s episode, we chat with Severine Petras, CEO at Priority Life Care, a leader in affordable senior care.

In 2009, Severine established Priority Life Care to provide senior living options to older people of all financial backgrounds. Severine and her brother, Bobby Petras, founded and sustained an option for affordable assisted living and memory care. Back then, this was rare in the long-term care industry.

In 2022, Priority Life Care sticks quite close to its original mission of providing affordable senior care. However, today, Priority Life Care is a full third-party management company, in contrast to when the business first started. Initially, Priority Life Care had a capital partner and did a lot more back office work.

One of the biggest learning curves in Severine’s career has been the pandemic. The company was not fully prepared for dealing with such a crisis.

Severine’s role evolved from supporting people at a community level to helping people in the field. At the time, she didn’t have the tools and knowledge to do it, and she had to learn how to navigate the pandemic on the job.

The Experiences of LGBTQ Elders From the Stonewall Generation with Dr. Jane Fleishman, Certified Sexuality Educator at Speaking Of, LLC

The Experiences of LGBTQ Elders From the Stonewall Generation with Dr. Jane Fleishman, Certified Sexuality Educator at Speaking Of, LLC

In the latest episode of the LTC Heroes podcast, we speak with Jane Fleishman, Ph.D., Certified Sexuality Educator at Speaking Of, LLC. Jane is the author of The Stonewall Generation: LGBTQ Elders on Sex, Activism, and Aging.

In the episode, we discuss the book in detail. The book shares the experiences of nine elders in the LGBTQ community who came of age around the time of the Stonewall rebellion.

There aren’t many books about the LGBTQ elders' experience, which makes the book stand out. When Jane finished her doctoral research on statistical research on LGBTQ elders and sexual satisfaction, she longed for the stories behind the numbers.

Jane heard back from a group of people who had come of age or came out as LGBTQ during the Stonewall rebellion, a very heavy, exciting time of political turmoil. Jane interviewed people and they seemed to like the idea of being called the Stonewall generation. That’s how the name and vision for the book came about.

In this episode, we hear all about the book, including common reactions from readers and about Jane’s learning curve.

IntelyCare is a digital staffing platform with thousands of nurses, nurse assistants, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities signed up. The app matches healthcare professionals with facilities for temporary staffing needs.

IntelyCare has become very successful and now operates in 30 states.

David and Chris attribute their success to coming in as new players in the market. While there are other staffing agencies with good existing client relationships, IntelyCare is proud of the growth of the number of its nurses and of how well-engaged they are with the company.

Marketing to the 1% in Long-Term Care with Moorings Park Communities

Marketing to the 1% in Long-Term Care with Moorings Park Communities

In the latest episode of the LTC Heroes podcast, we sit down with Tom Mann, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Moorings Park.

Tom has enjoyed a long career in senior living, spanning over 27 years. He served as senior vice president of advertising for the national development of life plan communities.

Then he worked as principal chief marketing innovation officer for Love & Company. Tom has been with Moorings Park since January 2020.

Tom got into long-term care accidentally. After a short stint at an advertising agency as a copywriter, Tom created his own advertising agency. During this time, Tom met John Erickson, founder of Erickson Retirement Communities.

Before he knew it, Tom was working with John at the company. He spent 15 years at Erickson Retirement Communities. In this time the company grew to 20,000 residents and 10,000 employees.

Over the years, marketing has changed dramatically. When Tom was first hired at Erickson Retirement Communities, there was no in-house ad agency. Tom worked as a copywriter, graphic designer, and in other roles.

There was no digital marketing at the time. Today at Moorings Park, over 60% of leads come in digitally.

The Middle Market Playbook in Long-Term Care with LeadingAge Virginia President and CEO, Melissa Andrews

The Middle Market Playbook in Long-Term Care with LeadingAge Virginia President and CEO, Melissa Andrews

In this week’s episode of the LTC Heroes podcast, we speak with Melissa Andrews, President and CEO at LeadingAge Virginia. Melissa is responsible for the overall management of the company and leading the membership.

LeadingAge represents more than 5,000 nonprofit aging services providers and other organizations that improve millions of lives daily. LeadingAge uses applied research, advocacy, education, and community-building to make the United States a better place to grow old.

The episode takes an in-depth look at Melissa’s book, The Middle Market Playbook. This was organized by Melissa back in 2019 and was published by LeadingAge.

The idea for the book started when Melissa began traveling around Virginia when she became CEO almost six years ago. She would ask members what kept them up at night.

There were two main issues: the workforce; and that many faith-based members felt like they weren’t being served well. The book was created to help solve a problem that existed for that group.

Other topics discussed in the episode include the challenges of diversity in the long-term care workforce and strategic planning.
