Episode 15 - A Special Holiday Thank You From Eye Talk Audio

The holidays are a crazy and wonderful time of the year, unfortunately for us that meant scheduling conflicts galore, so there is no new interview this month.

However, we've got a few brilliant surprises in the months to come, so keep listening!

Happy holidays to all! Let's remember to be kind and listen to each other in 2021 - we just might change the world.

Episode 14 - Dr. Rishi Singh Follow-Up

Episode 14 - Dr. Rishi Singh Follow-Up

It's another first on the podcast! This time it's our first follow up chat. In late 2019 Dr. Singh won a grant to expand his research on possible disparities in treatment. He was looking at socio-economic issues, race, gender and insurance primarily. Now after having analyzed over 200,000 cases, he is back to talk about what he found. While you might not initially be surprised by the general findings, you will be by the specifics.

Episode 12 - Dr. Sarwat Salim

Episode 12 - Dr. Sarwat Salim

You know those people you occasionally meet in life that you instinctually know are in the right profession? That’s exactly the feeling I got when I chatted with Dr. Sarwat Salim. She is impressive in her own right, but the way she has dedicated herself to her profession, in all aspects, is quite remarkable. From work around the world to her mentoring and teaching here in the states, she is not shy about stepping in helping move things forward.

In this episode we chat about many many things including the recent recognition of her work during the early days of COVID-19, the need for education and training around the world, mentoring (she proposes a fascinating new model of mentoring that is definitely worth listening to), diversity in ophthalmology and the need for more women to step into leadership roles. We also chat about her current passion – myopia, the rising epidemic it presents, and the work that she and the AAO task force are currently doing to help spread awareness as well as the research being done.

Dr. Sarwat Salim is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University and the Vice-Chair of Clinical and Academic Affairs and Director of the Glaucoma Service at Tufts Medical Center.

Dr. Salim has held numerous leadership positions at both state and national levels. She is currently the Chair of the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees.

Episode Five - Dr. Rishi Singh

Episode Five - Dr. Rishi Singh

Man, we love doing this. In this episode, we talk with Dr. Rishi Singh, one of the winners of the 2019 ASCRS Winning Pitch award. A few years back Dr. Singh began to notice possible disparages in his patients who required some complex treatments and wondered why that was, so he started his own studies based on his patient base and noticed there we socio-economic issues that affected care and dived a bit deeper and what he found was startling. In this episode (recorded back in November) he dives deep into his initial findings and what he hopes to get out of his ongoing study looking at the IRIs registry database. This is some truly remarkable stuff.

Also, apologies for the audio on my end, it was a wonky signal but Dr. Singh is clear as glass. Enjoy.
