Not How—but Who
Entrepreneurs are often very driven and motivated, and are eager to learn new things in order to take their business to the next level. However, as I am just beginning to learn, I think many of us are making a mistake and asking the wrong question. The right question is not, how do I do what I need to do to get the result I want? Instead, it’s who do I know that can help me get the results even faster and better?

Consistency + Relevancy + Transparency = Success
Everybody who runs a small business should be able to define what success looks like. The reason many can’t get there is that they have vague ideas. They know roughly where they’d like to end up (make more money!), but they have little-to-no idea of how to get there. Listening to a podcast the other day, I heard the speaker mention this simple formula: Consistency + Relevancy + Transparency = Success Could it really be that simple? Is that all it takes to be successful in small business? I’m still exploring this for myself, but I definitely have some thoughts on these ideas.

The Ripple Effect in Business and Ministry
In our numbers-obsessed culture, there's a tendency to devalue the work that we do if we don't hit some arbitrary goal that we've defined as "success." However, since our work has the potential to make an eternal impact but we don't have the ability to see that potential impact, we risk thinking God can't use us to accomplish great things. A helpful way to combat this, I think, is with the so-called ripple effect. The concept is simple. A skipped stone hits the water in one spot, but the impact reverberates across the surface of the water in a beautiful pattern. It's one of those "little things" that has become normal to us, despite how awesome it is. However, there's also a great lesson to learn in life, business, and ministry.

The Premium Experience: Why What You Offer is Not as Important As How You Offer It
Why is that Starbucks can charge $3-$4 per cup for a beverage that most Americas were used to paying $.50 for, and that many more could drink nearly free at home? Why does something just seem different about ordering Chicken Nuggets from Chick-Fil-A than from ordering them at Burger King? Why can Apple charge thousands for a computer with less impressive hardware than other computers which cost only hundreds? The chief answer is that each of these brands understands something about making and selling products: What you offer is not nearly as important as how you offer it.

Do I Still Need a Website in 2020?
Last week, we saw how an update to the way Instagram counts likes will change the game for marketers, most likely in a negative way. I concluded with a plea: Don't put all of your eggs in the basket of a social media site or some other external platform. Rather, build a strong home base full of your content. That home base will usually be in the form of your own website---ground you control.

How Christian Business Leaders Can Use Story In Content Marketing
"Story" is a concept that has been part of societies for thousands of years. It probably trades on the idea that stories are generally more memorable than didactic instruction, so ancient oral cultures had an easy time passing down traditions through this medium. However, we should not confuse the use of Story in marketing with storytelling. The former builds upon the latter, but they are not the same thing. Let's talk about how to use this powerful framework. --- Want to pick my brain? Click here.

How to Reframe Imposter Syndrome
"Imposter syndrome is insidious because it makes us feel inferior. It makes us feel like we don’t belong, and it makes us feel like we’re not the ultimate expert on the entire earth in our subject matter. But really, we don’t’ have to be that. We are just a little ahead of other people who we are trying to help achieve a goal. We’re all just a little bit ahead of somebody else. But if anybody’s behind you, you can help them. You can clearly help your students and they’ve acknowledged that you can do that. Try to change it to where you’re saying, “Hey, I need all the answers,” to, “Wait a minute. I just have to help that person find the answer they need. If I can do that, I’m expert enough. I’m worthy of being able to do this because I’m just their guide. I’m just their mentor. I’m not the know it all that knows everything. I’m not Oz behind the curtain.” - Shane Sams How to deal with Imposter syndrome: 1. Realize that everybody deals with it 2. Allow your experience—all of it—to count 3. Be restlessly helpful, and only be stumped once Verse of the day: "But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” - Psalms 5:11 (KJV)  --- God bless you, and may you prosper in your coaching business. Start something special, and do something today to change your tomorrow.

M4C 008: How Coaches Can Become Free to Focus with This Powerful New Framework
What if you could achieve more in your time on this planet, while, counterintuitively, doing less? Michael Hyatt's newest, Free to Focus, is a compelling book that teaches a total productivity system. And if you let it, it will entirely change your life. The benefit for coaches? We all know that achieving clarity is key to knowing what actions to take next. Many times we coach others to clarity, without having it ourselves. This leads to stress, burnout, career dissatisfaction, and life dissatisfaction. Most of it comes down to a misappropriation of priorities---and that's exactly what Free to Focus helps you overcome. Listen in as I debunk a few myths for you and explain why you need this book. It's not only a great idea to pick it up---it's essential. Mentioned in this lesson: Get the book! Get the planner! M4C 007: Up and Running – How to Write and Speak Like a Pro for Your Coaching Business
Here's a thought experiment for you: Would you use a financial planner who's up to his eyeballs in debt? A nutritionist who weighs 350 lbs? A relationship expert who's been divorced three times and is, once again, on shaky ground? A coach with no clue how to communicate? All the way back in episode two, I argued that a great client experience was necessary to achieve "automatic"---word of mouth---marketing. Part of giving your clients a great experience is to be a great communicator. In this episode I'll give you what I think is the #1 framework for honing your communication craft, and articulating your ideas carefully and clearly. In this lesson, you’ll learn: Why inviting your listeners/readers into a story is the most effective way to get them interested. How to make ideas relatable and memorable. M4C 006: Up and Running – Coaching and Content Creation
We're in a series covering the basics of how to get "up and running" with online marketing as a coach. There is perhaps nothing more important than consistently creating compelling content. How does one do that? By giving away their best information absolutely free. If that sounds scary, don't worry, I feel you. But I'm absolutely convinced this is the best and most effective approach. This episode will teach you why and how value-first marketing can radically improve your business and increase your caseload in record time. In this lesson, you’ll learn: Qualifying questions you can ask to determine which type of content you should create on a regular basis. M4C 005: Up and Running – Get Started with your Coaching Business Website
It's pretty hard to do online marketing without a good website. This should be a given in the age of technology we live in, but unfortunately, many don't understand what it even means to have a good website. In this lesson, you’ll learn: Why most coaches have completely useless websites, even if they paid good money for them! 5 things your coaching website MUST include to communicate clearly with potential clients. M4C 002: Automatic Marketing and The Proven Path to Becoming a Stellar Coach
I don't claim to be the expert authority on coaching, but I do know a thing or two about marketing. And there are some universal truths about marketing that, when applied to the practice of coaching, are sure to accelerate your growth to levels that you never imagined. Some of these are obvious, for sure. Others not so much. But often, there is a tendency to overcomplicate. In other words, what may be obvious in principle does not always make it into practice. In this episode I'm going to give you a 4-step path to help you become a stellar coach. This is the first step to achieving what I call "automatic marketing." Enjoy the show! In this lesson, you’ll learn: The one mindset shift coaches can make that will transform how prospects (and even current clients!) perceive their practice. One obvious truth that sets the "referral-chain" in motion. The real job of the coach. (Hint: it's not to solve everyone's problems!) Why your ability to listen is so much more valuable than your ability to give good advice. Mentioned in this episode: 48 Days Eagles Thanks so much for listening.
