58. You Can’t Be Bougie and Broke
Welcome Back to the Faith in Finance Podcast!
57. Integrating Faith Into Our Finances, Business, & Life - Katie Jones, Agape Investing
Katie Jones has always been finance and business-minded. In high school, she really had two activities in life: her job and church activities. The only thing she was really taught about money was how to save it. She didn't know what she was saving for though.
She went to a small Christian college in Colorado and throughout her college career, she always had at least one job and at times I had 3. She was blessed to have fallen in love with a man who is very frugal. When they met, she was working for a leasing agent for a property management firm. She worked there until God made it clear that property management was not the place she was meant to be, however, she did love real estate in general.
While working there, she developed an interest in real estate investing and was determined to become an investor herself. Somehow, she got her risk-averse, youth pastor husband on board, and only 3 months after getting married, they bought their first rental property. She quit her job at the property management firm, followed God's call to start a blog, and help out a real estate brokerage with showings.
Katie is passionate about teaching people how to implement their faith into their investing, their businesses, and their finances. "I believe we are all called to full-time ministry wherever we are at. It is super rewarding to educate people about real estate, finances, and entrepreneurship. I admit that I am nowhere near an expert in any of these things, but I am dedicated to self-educating because I believe it is right where God has called me to be!"

21. God Has a Perfect Plan: A Story of God’s Faithfulness in Finances, Business, & Family
In 2016, Kendall and her husband were living the American newlywed dream: Great jobs, great income. They wanted to start a family but they were also deeply in debt with car payments, credit cards, student loans, and a new mortgage. Kendall wanted so badly to stay home with her children someday and knew that in order to do so, they would need to pay off their debts and live comfortably on her husband's salary. This was the catalyst that helped the Berry's start getting their financial life in order.
That year, they took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University class at their church and started getting on a plan to pay off their debt immediately. It took them about 8 months to pay off $50,000 in debt! They have built an emergency fund and improved their financial situation by about $100k since then. Once their debts were paid, Kendal was burnt out at her job as a social worker. They were also having trouble getting pregnant and with that, they decided that Kendall could finally come home and rest.
After a couple months of rest and restoration, Kendall started thinking about how she could bring in an income and do something she loved, which is why she is now a financial coach!
Kendall is passionate about all things personal finance but most passionate about making sure people have an emergency fund and a down payment before buying their first home.
We talk about all the things including debt payoff, starting a business, trusting God, the sometimes terror of being a homeowner, emergency funds, Ramit Sathi (personal finance guru), how God can use our stories to make something beautiful for His glory.
