A Life Of Film-Making (FanGirlHour, S4,E1)

A Life Of Film-Making (FanGirlHour, S4,E1)

It's Season 4, Episode 1 of the FanGirlHour!  And, in this episode, could be called the FanGirlHour...& a little bit more, I interview my good friend, Ray Nomoto Robison who shares his life long  love & journey with film-making.  Ray shares how he fell into film-making and the reasons why, what influenced him including family, upbringing, favorite films, and just why he loves the art & creation of filmmaking that keeps bringing him back again and again!

Ray Nomoto Robison
Filmmaker
A Fine Arts major in college Robison decided half way through his freshman year that film should be his medium. After receiving his film degree he opted not to move to LA or any other metropolitan area preferring a more rural lifestyle. In Montana and Oregon Robison made a 20 year career of producing and directing local television commercials then began teaching at Southern Oregon University where his students reignited his passion for filmmaking. He began production on his first feature film in 2001. The ultra-low budget feature was sold to a small east coast US distributor allowing Robison to recoup some of his investment. He then began writing his second feature film and in 2007 he saw his first film festival screening (Dances with Films) with his film noir piece Sixes and the One Eyed King. The experience increased the momentum in his passion for filmmaking and he began work on the short film Model Rules which would be the first short film he had made since college. Numerous features and shorts followed and today Robison as a film director has over 100 film festival selections under his belt and continues independent filmmaking primarily in Oregon where he makes his home. He is currently in pre-production on a horror film And Evil Makes 8 which will be the first feature he will have directed in over 10 years.

FanGirling 4 Kevin Smith (With KJ)

In this episode of the FanGirlHour, I chat with my good friend, KJ, about how the movies & story-telling of Kevin Smith has been a life-long influence on his creative output and his overall outlook on life.  He shares some of his most influential moments bonding with others  over Kevin Smith films, including his wife & shares how this fandom has influenced his outreach for artists of many a variety.

KJ has been a theatre professional for much of his career, including as a youth drama teacher, lighting designer, technical director and stage manager. While at home in stage tech and leadership positions, he also enjoys performing. His other interests include writing poetry and playing hand drums in local bands and at church. A former teacher, KJ has launched Artists Happy Hour in support of a new non-profit, Talent Pool, where our creative interests can develop through mentoring. KJ supports Randall Theatre/Ghostlight Playhouse, Backyard Community Food Court, Rockafairy, and collaborates with the local independent film and stand-up comedy scenes. None of this would be possible without the support of his wife and 2 kids, and a very talented group of close friends.

Richard Jensen is back and this time he's discussing how his love for his fandom, Star Wars, has influenced his life as an actor, writer, director, and film-maker.  We dive deep into the sociopolitical backstory for Star Wars, discuss the various behind the scenes facts about George Lucas as well as others.  Richard shares how much he cherishes all of Star Wars, although some of the series doesn't always reach the top tier.  However, others do and he details why those certain ones have captured his attention.

Making The Yummies With Kurk! (FanGirlHour)

My good friend, Kurk Kasparian, is back! This time he shares his passion for vegan cooking and all the reasons why throughout his life history cooking and eating healthy became such a central focus for his love of himself and connection with others.

We get a little deep about family background & trauma--so bit of a content warning!  But....Kurk also entertains us with his impression of Julia Child, something to look forward to!

Hope you enjoy the show!

Kurk Kasparian is a film producer, actor, and award-winning director who has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, such as Reese Witherspoon, Michael Biehn, and Jennifer Lopez. He's vegan and loves animals more than people - which sometimes makes it difficult for him to work in an industry that often exploits them. Kurk's secret passion for the superhero genre is no secret anymore- his favorite comic book is X-Men. Kurk is an up-and-coming film director, and recently directed his first feature film, a romantic comedy called "The Last Kiss". Details on where to watch it will be released soon! He also directed a short film, a dark comedy called "happy Prank day" it has won 9 nominations and 8 awards for best comedy, best cast ensemble, and best director. Links to watch that will also be coming soon. When he isn't working in Hollywood he runs a video Production and marketing company focused on helping the vegan e-commerce market. you can find him on imdb:https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5373925/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 ; linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kurkkasparian/

That Night Court Podcast: Dan Finally Dan, Bull Finally Bull, & Can someone please help Lana?

In this episode, we finally get to see the character dimension and growth of the other characters, that's right, we finally get to see Dan Fielding become the Dan Fielding we will know & hate to love...but we also get to know Bull some more & Lana...& we are introduced to some great side characters who would continue to make appearance like...AL CRAVEN!

Listen with me as I dissect and deconstruct my childhood idealism looking at how this show, as awesome as it was & is, still has some very 80's qualities to it, the way women are portrayed, for example, as well I look at the importance of comedy in storytelling with a moral and reflecting both our light and shadow facets.

All in all, Harry is still my Daddy-0 Judge!

ReConnect.

ReConnect.

In this week's episode, I chat with my longtime friend and fellow SNLie fan about our mutual love of all things SNL.  We talk over the happy moments, how it shaped his life & personality, and fondly remember those whom we have lost in the "where were you" type conversation.

Also, its the 7th episode, I keep saying the 8th throughout this episode.  Silly me!

Thanks for listening.
