We're live again *and* we have video but here is the audio version of the podcast. Mr Birch and Mr Smith discuss Tenet being released to the cinema and Mulan not being released. We also find out what the boys have been up to during lockdown and discover some terrible news...
Music as always by Two Step to Hell and you can find us on Twitter on @theffl and Mr Birch is @MrBirchFFL
We're back. After an enforced break the cinemas are open again so we've dusted off WOPR and resorted the game.
This month though there are a few changes as Smith has added in a video feed to the usual show. This means you can now see us in glorious grainy SD video (don't ask). We cover the films we should have seen by now as we try to work out when they'll be released. It's all a bit random at the moment but hopefully we'll get back on track.
This is the podcast recorded before the studios moved all the release dates back because of the virus that was shutting cinemas worldwide. The movies will likely still be released, just later. So think of this as planning for the future sometime...
Epic trailer music is from Two Steps From Hell.
Smith and Birch get technical with all the game updates from the last month, the plan for new quarterly leagues, an Oscars mini-game for next year, and an in-depth discussion on how decisions between Top Billing and Supporting Cast are made. Plus with No Time To Die arriving soon, there's a Bond Watch update.
Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.
This month Smith and Birch have been mildly distracted by the ninth fast and furious movie, despite it not being released for a good while yet. For anyone not playing One And Done, they have some reviewed some more relevant trailers with a few good cast suggestions for the next month...
Music comes from our favourite Epic Trailer Music people, Two Steps from Hell.
Birch and Smith deliver a high-speed episode covering the nominations for The Oscars, all the juicy stats from the 2019 season, the Michael Bay homage that is Bad Boys For Life, and a positively huge roster of news including details of FuffleCon.
Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.
Mr Birch and Mr Smith return with a look a what's coming in February. The discuss their distaste for pre-trailer trailers and look at a roller coaster roster of upcoming releases including Fantasy Island, Emma and some weird Harrison Ford dog film....
Music by Two steps from Hell
We know this is right there on the Front Page but just in case you need it here's the quick explainer on how the FFL works. We recorded this a while back but it should give you an overview of the game if you are new to it all. We were going to re-record this but the planning for the new season got in the way. Any questions though you'll find the team lurking round out Discord page or you can tweet us @TheFFL or mail Mr B at Mr.Birch@fantasyfilmeleague.com
Smith and Birch bring you the results of the 2019 season, but not before an important announcement on a change to the game rules for 2020! They also review Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Queen & Slim, Spies in Disguise, and The Gentlemen.
Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.
January is often a graveyard for bad films but Birch and Smith have a pleasant surprise when they review Jojo Rabbit, 1917, Like a Boss, Underwater, Bad Boys for Life, Dolittle, and The Gentlemen. Okay, not everything there is great but there's a lot to look forward to as well. This episode will help you get your 2020 season of the Fantasy Film League off to a flying start with some good options for your lineup.
Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell.
Birch and Smith cover a cornucopia of news, including our move to Anchor, funding Wopr with Patreon, Clooney-funded spy satellites, and Nic Cage playing Nic Cage alongside Nic Cage. It's Knives Out from Birch but not before Yesterday.
Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell.
Christmas - the time for festivities, deliberately terrible jumpers and light-up swords.
Smith and Birch have left the festive jumpers for another podcast, but what with this being a look ahead, we can't ignore Star Wars and our view that it's box office is going to squish all other box offices. But what's out there that's going to mop-up the audience that doesn't care for the galaxy far, far away?
Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell.
Mr Birch and Mr Smith start with chillies (yes!) but quickly get onto proper topics, like secret fantasy films line-ups, awards bugs, One And Done and sustainably powering Wopr into the century (obviously). Films such as Joker and Zombieland: Double Tap also come up. And then there's James Dean's new film. Oh dear.
Mr Birch and Mr Smith discuss decontaminating the FFL's code, all things Spiderman, and how awesome Taron Egerton is, especially in Rocketman. And Kingsman. And Eddie The Eagle. All while attempting not to get distracted by the sports.
Men In Black Neuraliser shots, fake endings and sequels nobody wanted – all in the October Trailers Podcast! Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell. I’m sure I was told where the Neuraliser sound came from but I seem to have forgotten… Wilson
Mr Birch and Mr Smith discuss the One And Done game, whether Tarantino is played out, if Good Boys was a good idea, and whether being a financial flop means that a film is bad. And finally, a dark secret is confronted!
Question: What do Rambo Last Blood, Downton Abbey and Hustlers have in common? Well, they all feature in this months eclectic Trailers review podcast! Epic Trailer Music is from Two Steps From Hell. Always was, always will be.
Each month Birch and Smith look at trailers for movies landing in the following month to see if there are any that point to box office gold (or if any are total turkeys). A couple of quotes from this months episode; “WHY???” “Because everyone likes a good slice of Common” “Are we really going to […]
Mr Smith updates us on the improved navigation around the game site and a natty new weekly leaderboard. Bond Watch returns! Mr Birch reviews Cold Pursuit and off the back of that, trailers that mis-sell their film are discussed.
What’s in store this month in the FFL Trailers podcast? Well, there’s a submarine, Ed Sheeran, zombies and time-travel (because this is us and there’s always time travel. Or should that be there always was time travel?) Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell. Always was, always will be.
Mr Birch loses it over Batman. Mr Smith finds a fresh news jingle. Shocking revelations unfold on the FFL Discord chat! We review John Wick 3 and Can You Ever Forgive Me. And as we near the halfway point of the year, stock is taken of the best picks so far in the Fantasy Film League.
Getting ahead of ourselves? Maybe we’re just waiting for the rest of time to catch up. We’re not sure, but here we have Smith and Birch’s June Trailers podcast, as published in May. This month the Misters give their reactions to trailers from X-Men – Dark Phoenix, MIB International, Late Night, Shaft, Toy Story 4, […]
Talking about Avengers: Endgame was... inevitable. Absolutely minimal spoilers and plenty of warning provided. We also review Destination Wedding, The Favourite and Crazy Rich Asians. And if that's not enough, Birch reveals exciting news about not one but two films going into production.
May has huge number of releases but we bring you only the best. Okay, and some of the worst. So here’s our take on Vox Lux, Long Shot, Detective Pikachu, Destination Wedding, John Wick Chapter 3, Aladdin, Rocket Man and Godzilla 2. Epic Trailer Music by Two Steps From Hell.
Real world news covering the return of James Gunn to the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Smith starts the recasting process for his Flash Gordon remake. Birch reviews Captain Marvel, Smith hits back with Fighting with My Family, but Birch closes with a strong Bohemian Rhapsody / Isn't It Romantic one-two.
So aside from Avengers: Endgame, are there actually any other films coming out in April? Why, yes! And we’re here to review their trailers. We have Shazam!, Missing Link, Pet Sematary, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote and Hellboy. Epic Trailer Music by Two Steps From Hell.
Game news, a kids movie review and a combination of Affleck now and Clooney then bringing Smith and Birch to blows. Must be the FFL March Podcast. Showing love for Creative Commons licences, we have Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell and Bensound created The Elevator Bossa Nova.
We look ahead to movies coming out in March and who from these might be a good pick for the Fantasy Film League game. The trailers reviewed this time are for Dumbo, Greta, I’m Not Here (because J. K. Simmons), Gloria Bell, The Aftermath, and Captain Marvel. Plus we close out with a sneak peak […]
This podcast is dedicated to the newcomers to the FFL with much info on how to play the game. It’s also a good listen for our more experienced players who can laugh at Mr Birch’s feeble choice of stars for his “one and done” entry. There’s lots of interstitial music here. Regulars will know this […]
Mr Birch returns to walk Mr Smith through the best films coming out in February and what impact they might have on the game. Discussed this time are Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, What Men Want, Cold Pursuit, Alita: Battle Angel, Fighting With My Family, Isn’t […]
Before you get stuck into your favorite festive activities, I’d like to bring you the latest FFL Trailers podcast episode. And not a bell will jingle as we look ahead to films opening in January! So is there an upside for your fuffle to The Upside? Will Glass shatter your dreams or will you be […]
This month – no sleigh bells, but some mention of Stirling K Brown. A look ahead at 2019 doesn’t fill us with seasonal cheer but that’s mostly because of the threat of a Back To The Future remake. There’s the latest on the game news that we’ve been discussing on Discord and more. Get it […]
It’s with great sorrow that I report that Smith and Birch have been abducted by aliens and replicants returned in their place. That’s the only possible explanation for this months trailers verdicts. In the battle of the films with “Mary” in the title, the nailed-on success (in Wilsons’ opinion) that is Mary Poppins gets the […]
November FFL Podcast time and it’s some exciting game updates that dominate the News. Join us on Discord to let us know what you think once you’ve heard what Smith and Birch have up their sleeves. Meanwhile, Birch – the one with the least love for Star Wars movies out of us all – has […]
Not many podcasts invite audience participation, but this is one of the few. When the interstatial Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell we invite you to pause the podcast, get the trailer we’re watching on YouTube and then see if you agree with our assessment of the upcoming chart-bothering movie. This months tour […]
It’s October and Wilson has finally rejoined Smith and Birch in the temporary studio in the secondary dining area of the Fortress of Birchitude. So as well as the usual Bondwatch, game news and movie reviews, the Dungeon of Doom makes an appearance. Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell.
Autumn is upon us and as the leaves drift down from the trees, Birch and Smith look at some upcoming movies to see if they have anyone worth investing your hard earned fuffle in. Or if they look good enough for your hard earned real money, for that matter. This month it’s a bit eclectic. […]
It’s August and traditionally we’d use this as our summer break. But we’re starting to get bored with tradition, so here’s Smith and Birch with NINE (count-em) trailer reviews to give you an insight as to whether we think any of their cast are worth investing in. This month, The Meg kicks us off and […]
Smith walks through some recent improvements to the game (and forgets some more in the process). Birch brings back Bondwatch and tries not to drool over Henry Cavill. Ready Player One gets a belated beating from Birch before attention is turned towards an unexpected twist in the career of M. Night Shyamalan. Epic trailer music […]
This month Birch and Smith decide your fuffle is best invested in.. violence in Hotel Artemis, violence for our Dads in The Equalizer 2 or puppet-based violence in The Happytime Murders. The mood is lightened (or not) with The Spy Who Dumped Me, Black Clansman, Upgrade and Action Point. Check it our here… As usual, […]
Here we go again – another podcast with Smith and Birch, who gets his months mixed up. This month, Smith has news, Smith has seen two of the summers biggest films and Birch has brought the stats. You can get it here or anywhere else that serves up quality podcasts… Epic trailer music is provided […]
This month Smith and Birch take a look at the trailers for The First Purge, The Incredibles 2, Future World, Escape Plan 2, Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.
Got time for another FFL podcast? You better have! This time – Smith reveals how a player managed to break WOPR, what happened with the scoring glitch and how we should score movies with no clear lead or a lot of voices, which would be why there’s a ton of stuff about certain recent Marvel […]
This month’s trailers podcast is brought to you by artisan audio creators. We allow the audio to mature in oak casks for a rich, mellow flavour before releasing it to your ears. This careful process does take longer, so much so that May’s episode comes out in June, but we’re sure you’ll appreciate this superior […]
Belated (due to events getting out of hand in Wilson’s world) May podcast time. This month – what’s left of it – Smith and Birch have Game News, stats and Birch has been watching family friendly animations. You know the drill with the Epic Trailer music. It’s Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell. […]
This months trailers podcast might as well be sponsored by Disney, seeing as we’re about to crash our way through Deadpool, Avengers and Solo. But which do the guys like the look of best? And will Sherlock Gnomes be a surprise hit from a Fuffle-earnings perspective? Get it here; Of course Disney make some pretty […]
Hi Everybody – if you’re reading this you’re either craving your latest hit of movie game related podcast, or you’re wondering what this thing called the FFL is. You’re not going to learn much more about what the FFL is here, but if you’re already familiar with what we’re about then what have you to […]
It’s trailers review time and the guys review the latest Woody Woodpecker animation (yes, you read that right), the latest Pacific Rim animation (ok, it’s not officially an animation, but when most of the film is CG, shouldn’t we call it what it is – animation?) and step up the quality by checking out A […]
It’s mid-February (ish) and so it’s time to let you know what we thought about some interesting looking trailers for movies landing from about now into mid-March. This month Birch introduces the future classic that is Winchester, we strap in for the latest in the 50 Shades franchise, I can’t believe that Marvel have made […]
Good news in “This Is The Newwwwws”, bad news about incoming pointless remakes in the Shield feature, a pair of Dungeon of Doom entries that really should have failed the criteria for the Dungeon… and more! It’s the February 2018 FFL Podcast! Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell. “This is The Newwws” interstatial […]
Here for your delight is the first main FFL Podcast of 2018! Christmas seems a long time ago, 2017 in general feels… well… so last year. So it’s a good time to look back at the season that was and see who came out victorious and have a last look at 2017’s good and bad […]
In a longer than normal special episode Mr Smith crashes in the Fortress of Birchitude to help(?) Mr Birch look at the top and bottom investment picks of 2018. We see who you should have spent your money on, you you should have avoided and answer the big question: Was the Star Wars cast worth […]
Happy New Year! Here’s the latest trailers podcast that we absolutely did not record at the beginning of December. Honest… Well, whenever we recorded it, here it is. Smith and Birch cast their critical eye over Downsizing, Coco, Hostiles, The recent (if delayed) Maze Runner and The Commuter. Right, I’m off to dig out the […]
Seasonal Greetings from us at the FFL. Please unwrap, if you will, the December podcast which contains some important game news, one not to miss – at least, if you’re someone who relies on animations for making fufflebucks. I’ve mailed in a Dungeon of Doom entry and there’s talk about unnecessary sequels. So, more of […]
Strong variety of trailers this month. Admittedly, several of the films are out already which makes this podcast less useful than others for predicting which cast members you should invest in. But at least you get to see if we know what we’re talking about, which in the case of timekeeping we certainly don’t; See […]
Mr Birch returns with his regular (ish) look at who’s making you the most Fuffle this month. It’s all about the sci-fi this week as we look at Blade Runner and Thor before we prepare ourselves for Star Wars. Also with only a few week of 2017 he looks at the best investments to have […]
Welcome to the FFL November Podcast. Let me get the issue report out of the way before the emails come in: First, the usual police cordon around FFL towers (ensuring interruption free recording) was booked for the wrong day. That’s why the sound of early morning traffic can be heard from time to time, and […]
Mr Birch is back with his regular look at who’s making you the most Fuffle this month. It’s ludicrous over the top action this week and the Fuffle top 5 is dominated by Kingsman. Can it hold on? Is Blade Runner about to swoop in on a flying car looking a bit moody? Tune in […]
This month on the trailers podcast the boys go strong looking at the trailer for Bladerunner 2049, go sensible with the intriguing Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, go non-pc with Battle of the Sexes, go weird with Six Hot Chicks in a Warehouse (no really) and finally go post zombie with The Cured. And […]
This month… Smith has news, Birch takes the shield generator off his car and uses it to protect The Crow, there are some films that aren’t as good as they should be and – entirely without the use of a time machine (or even a ropey ripped off sound effect of one) – we look […]
Mr Birch is back with his regular look at who’s making you the most Fuffle this month. Dunkirk finally relinquishes it’s grip on the Top Ten. Also he looks ahead to October and looks at what films you may want to invest in..
He’s back with his investment bell and advice on what you should have done 4 weeks ago with your FFL cast. Mr Birch guides you through the top 5 highest scoring stars and looks at a few investment opportunities ahead. It’s like those complicated investment show only it’s on a Sunday morning and even if […]
Wilson here. Now then…guilty pleasures. We’ve all got them. Whether it’s hogging the sour-sugar powder at the bottom of a bag of cola-bottle sweets or secretly enjoying the kids TV show “Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles” (c’mon, it’s not just me, right? Right?) there’s always something we secretly love but tend not to talk about […]
Mr Birch has been working away on a mini-podcast to give you more details on the economics of the FFL. So if you are wondering if buying Vin Diesel was a good decision (it was) or if buying all the Star Wars cast right now is a good idea (it’s not) then this is the […]
Well summer was, er, summery and it’s gone now. So it’s time to stop grilling meat in our back gardens and get back to the important business of explaining how we’re planning to fund the FFL Curry and Beer evening now that Daniel Craig has decided to delay Henry Cavill’s Bond career by a few […]
Smith and Birch bring the last trailers review of the summer. If variety be the spice of life then this podcast is a vindaloo curry. From the most rebooted franchise ever (Spiderman), to a film that brings an (ahem) emotional response from Birch (Emoji Movie) via It Comes At Night and Dunkirk – this podcast […]
What does the FFL Podcast have in common with most european countries? They both take most of August off! But before we drag ourselves away from our screens and go cold turkey from our movie additions on a beach somewhere, we’ve created this podcast for you! (And the trailers podcast for next week too, which […]
So, Ladies and Gentlemen, here we have the June Trailers podcast from the FFL. Which I’ve managed to get wrong – just a little bit. I’ll explain. The point of the trailers podcast is to give you a window into our opinons on the upcoming movies of the month in case any merit some last […]
It’s the June FFL Podcast and with your old pals Birch and Smith! We have the regular news and game update but then Birch brings us down by looking at really bad films. We’re still using Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell because we still like it, and would encourage you to get […]
This month the boys discuss trailers for The Circle, Alien Covenant, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Pirates of The Caribbean, Baywatch and Mindhorn. And if that little lot isn’t enough for you, remember what Marvel do during and after the credits for their movies… well, you’ll need the links at the bottom of this […]
It’s the May FFL Podcast and it’s another Birch and The Smiths spesh. We’ve seen Fast and Furious 8 which ticked all the right boxes, but begs the question of why we don’t rate xXx the same way. Weird, I know. There’s also game news and a review of Beauty and The Beast by Birch, […]
This month on the Trailers Podcast there’s a look at the Spandex-i-licious Power Rangers, animation of the month in the form of Boss Baby, we’re not sure what to make of Life, and finally Birch and Smith get excited* about Guardians of The Galaxy 2 and Fast and the Furious 8… no, wait, that’s not […]
Hello and welcome to the FFL April podcast. Coming to you a few days late because of [feel free to insert your own excuse here because it will be better than anything Wilson can come up with]. We are pleased to continue our outsourcing to Smith Jnr by making him watch films we don’t want […]
It’s March, it’s the 8th and that means it’s time for the March Trailers Podcast. This months selection of out-now-or-really-soon movies includes violent action, a failed attempt at comedy violence, a creature feature, sci-fi, superheroes and a ghost story about someone who goes shopping in France. So, quite a good spread on the genre front […]
Welcome to the March FFL Podcast where we completely ignore that big awards festival where people ban their accountants because the wrong winner gets announced and instead let you know what really matters. Yes, Ladies and Gents, you can talk to us directly via Discord. Let us know what you think of the game, what’s […]
Hello and welcome to the February edition of a podcast you can play along with (usual disclaimer about this feature not being recommended when driving or operating machinery applies). This month we’ll be looking at Patriots Day before coating ourselves in sequels with 50 Shades Darker, Lego Batman and John Wick 2. If you’re new […]
Hello and welcome to the blog that welcomes you to the February Podcast from us at the FFL. In a rare event, four of the Mister Men are present so this month you get to hear movie reviews from Birch, the “Movie-Descriptions-In-Simple-Words” quiz from Smith, possibly the most expensive Dungeon of Doom DVD review from […]
Hi Everyone, As usual it’s Mr Wilson here presenting to you another of our fabled podcasts. It’s the second podcast of the month and that means a review of trailers for upcoming films where we try to predict which are films that will do well and which will tank – hopefully giving some kind of […]
Happy New 2017 from us at the FFL. Welcoming you into the new year is the January podcast, full of all the usual favourites – game news, Bondwatch and more. As well as our Epic Trailer Music from Two Steps From Hell, the Budget Bond Theme comes from our new pal, DS Quid, writer and […]
Here we have the Annual Star Wars trailer review. Apparently there are some other films out too – Dwayne-Not-Mr-The-Rock Johnson gets a supporting credit because he has a voice in an animation, Nick Cage gets a mention, somehow Birch and Smith managed to miss Passengers and they spend a few minutes of their lives they’ll […]
The December FFL podcast contains no festivities at all. Not until the *very* end anyway when Wilson makes a late appearance in one of the worst clichés since every Christmas film ever (which we do a great job of not talking about). This is the perfect listening material for when you’ve had enough of Wizard […]
November trailer time. This month Smith, Birch and Wilson look forward to Arrival, look forward less to Fantastic Beasts, try to forget we heard anything about Life On The Line, get a sense of deja-vu over The Take, have no idea about La La Land and are still giggling about The Office Christmas Party. A […]
An autumnal welcome to the November edition of the FFL Podcast! Along with the usual Game News and our latest features “Bond Watch” and “Birch watches something Black and White”, Wilson is in the room meaning the Dungeon of Doom is back by (assumed) popular demand. Hey, Smith? YOU’RE NEXT!! As usual our Epic Trailer […]
Long time listeners – by which I mean any of you who’ve been with us at any point in the last year – will be aware that once per month we sit down and watch trailers for movies being released in the coming few weeks. We try to guess which movies have a cast worth […]
Mr Birch and Mr Smith return live with the first episode of season 5. They discuss the new, friendly game site, catching up on scoring, a certain Star Wars film coming out this year, and an Alec Guinness film that’s not Star Wars. Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.
Summer. Was fun wasn’t it? Lots of fun in fact, which is why I, Mr Wilson, took 3 months to do a 1 month job. And what a job – compiling the edits, cuts and ramblings of a years worth of podcasts (well – the stuff we’re allowed to publish and possibly some stuff we’re […]

Mr Thorn rejoins Smith and Birch to review Kung Fu Panda 3, 10 Cloverfield Lane, High-Rise, Batman v Superman and Eddie The Eagle. And perhaps a couple of others by mistake. The play list follows if you want to watch along. Epic trailer music from Two Steps From Hell.

While Wilson sleeps off the mince pies, the team bring you an update on the game plus a review of our favourite films of 2015 and compare them to the big hitters in the box office. Rather unexpectedly Wilson drags us back into his Dungeon Of Doom for one last time this year. Oh, and […]
Things get a bit timey-wimey in this episode of the podcast and Thorn remains lost in the vortex. Smith brings a game update and the team discuss playing at the end of the season with films like Star Wars on the horizon. Birch brings disappointment by spoiling another aspects of the film world.
