Independent Thinking - Martin Braun (master watchmaker) & Scott Goldman (@goldmanstagram1) - indie watchmaking, astronomical complications, stars and clocks
In this special episode, Roman (@TimesRomanAU) sits down for a chat with one of his horological heroes and indie watchmaking royalty - master watchmaker and clockmaker Martin Braun, and a previous guest and friend of FifthWrist Scott Goldman.
Our fascinating conversation captures the intricacies of indie horology, the evolution of Martin’s horology career, and the trials and tribulations of early independent watchmaking in the 1990s and early 2000s.

This episode is packed with rich stories and insights into the world of watchmaking, giving listeners a close-up look into the complexities and the artistry involved in creating timepieces.
The iconic Martin Braun EOS model (with customisable sunrise and sunset indicators set for the owner’s location) is now relaunched and available.

On a very special day, 1st Sep 2023, in a very special place, La Chaux-de-Fonds, a Fifth Wrist party was being had. The Defining Time Show (Back from the dead for 1 episode) was recorded, sitting around a table amongst friends at the Maison ochs und junior. Hence why you can hear the rawness of the track and I do apologise for some of the background noises.
It was a fabulous evening full of great food, wine, beer, laughter and friends enjoying each others company after meeting in person for the first time. This was also the night the world came to learn about the now world famous Chick-Lip. We were blown away by Benoit's project and generosity.
A huge thank you to ochs und junior for hosting a lovely event that allowed us to all be together and see the beautiful Maison. We are truly grateful for your hospitality. Thank you also to Claus for bringing the podcast gear and editing the track.
Here is the list of colourful characters who attended the event.
Also joining us was Leonard and Alice. Check out his amazing Butterfly watch he built at watch school. Find him here @Leonard_widmer
