Episode 6: Conversation with Troy Hadeed

A conversation with Troy Hadeed in Trinidad. Covering how he came to yoga and what yoga means for him. A bigger conversation on how he came to be able to mention the name God in yoga classes which was a big one for me on my own journey to also get my head around. Thinking about God in a different way and how that works for me. Also a look forward to his book, Popcorn in my pocket.

Troy was born in Trinidad & Tobago and has lived there for the majority of his life with the exceptions of attending the University Of Tampa, and his regular stints of travel and exploration. During his senior year at university, he participated in a study abroad program called Semester At Sea taking him to fifteen different countries and exposing him to a wealth of cultures and experiences.

After graduating from university Troy traversed Costa Rica coast to coast on foot, has spent prolonged periods in silence, and has immersed himself in the study and practice of Yoga. After graduating Troy returned to Trinidad to open Trinidad’s first Hemp store (not Head shop) which he ran for eight years, before starting a biofuel business, and then finally nurturing a beautiful yoga studio and community known as One Yoga Trinidad—recently rebranding as BeyondYogaTv.

Troy currently lives on the forested North Coast of Trinidad among the majestic hills of Paramin, continues to share the practice of yoga, and spends his mornings writing on the wings of hummingbirds and coffee.

Episode 3: Conversation with Arlen Seaton

Episode 3: Conversation with Arlen Seaton

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Today's guest is Arlen Seaton.  Arlen is an Antiguan singer-songwriter whose easy-as-molasses vocals charm the listener with a disarming sense of familiarity. It’s not the familiarity of a lyric heard before but of the stranger, sitting beside you in a bar, whom you feel like you’ve known all your life. His nostalgic style of storytelling through song owes a lot to his West Indian heritage of Calypso and folk tales as well as the influences of eclectic artists including Damien Rice, the Mighty Sparrow, John Legend, Coldplay and the Cinematic Orchestra.

Although Arlen graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College with a degree in Biology, he studied voice under the tutelage of Dr. Melvin Foster every semester of his tenure there. He spent as much time in practice rooms as he did in the laboratory, using music as a means of negotiating the world around him and as a tool for introspection.  In 2018, after having completed his course of study in Medicine at the American University of Antigua, Arlen decided to forego medical practice to pursue his dream of a full-time career in music.

Now, he has finally found the gumption to share his music with the rest of the world!  He has collaborated with York on York’s 2016 Traveler album and released ‘Christmas by my Side’, a dynamic duet sung with fellow Antiguan singer Jenny Medina in 2016.  He co-founded the band Blakk Gold with friends Hani Hechme and Venisa Gittens in 2018 and through that, has had the opportunity to open for major acts such as Marcia Griffith and Buju Banton, performing original but unrecorded content.  He now continues to hone his performance craft as the lead singer of the band Rico & Muzic4Play under the expert guidance of premier Antiguan drummer and band leader, Ricardo Anthony.

Arlen is currently working on his EP album and is committed to creating honest pieces, inspired by real life, and to giving himself, through his music, to those who would but listen.  His first single Queen Supreme is a collaboration with indomitable New York City producer David Sisko and was released everywhere on December 6th, 2020.

Episode 2: Conversation with Tom Morley

Episode 2: Conversation with Tom Morley

Today’s guest is Tom Morley former drummer with Scritti Politti in the ’80s a band built around connection and conversation.  To leaving that behind and becoming the ‘Rockstar Activator’. A conversation that touches on having it all, whatever all is. Re-finding yourself by first losing yourself. As the groove returned to him and he returned to the groove how he moved to where he is now. How to lead your own way and activate your inner Rockstar.

A conversation that covers the pieces of training he delivered in the covid lockdowns around the globe; children at home with the parents have got involved with the training and actually facilitated the childlike curiosity of their parents in a quicker way, 200 hundred all on zoom doing the front crawl 10 minutes into the training! A wonderful story of life and how to walk your path.

‘The groove is found at the crossroads of discipline and surrender”.

Episode 1: Conversation with Brenda Lee Browne

Episode 1: Conversation with Brenda Lee Browne

About Brenda Lee Browne: BLB, as her friends call her, is a storyteller. This conversation weaves backwards and forwards across The Atlantic Ocean, as well as through the years.

British, Caribbean born in the ’60s growing up and through the ’70s in the UK. A conversation that touches on ancestry, rites of passage, growth, acceptance and above all, the spirit of a woman destined to return to the country of her parents and find her roots and just write. This conversation has so much depth I know you will enjoy it.

"I was born in London to Antiguan parents. I studied journalism and started my career in Black British media before moving to Antigua in the mid-1980s, where I began writing and publishing short stories and poetry. In the mid-1990s, I returned to the UK and gained an MA in Writing from Sheffield Hallam University. And returned to Antigua in 2003 and established Just Write – Antigua, teaching creative writing workshops and worked with government agencies, adults, young people and inmates at HMP in Antigua.

My work has appeared in a number of anthologies in the USA, UK and Canada as well as online. My first novella, ‘London Rocks’ was published by Hansib Publications in the UK in 2018. I am presently a part-time lecturer at the Antigua and Barbuda State College, where I teach Communication Studies and English Literature.  I joined the Hub Dot community five years ago when the Antigua and Barbuda Hub Dot team was established."
