FMC | Episode 03x11: Motherhood Update and Getting Out of Survival Mode w/ Nani Dominguez-Smith

Welcome, Filipino Momcast listeners!

Have you ever sat down to really think about what worries you the most as a mom? Do you worry about doing something wrong that you’ll screw your kids up? Do you have a hard time letting them or your partner be their own person?

Closing out our final episode of season 3, we invited first-time mom, podcaster, writer, and communications consultant, Nani Dominguez-Smith back onto the show to get an update on life and the struggles she’s experiencing in her current season of motherhood.

At the time of this recording, her son is on the cusp of turning 15 months and with other life dynamics like getting married, working, consulting on the side, and her husband starting law school, Nani shares candid insight on the stress that surfaces as she bravely takes each turn.

To reach out, connect with, and support Nani, you’ll find her contact info below.

As we wrap up another Season here on the Filipino Momcast to be present with our families for the holidays, from Maryann, Roanne, Leilani, and Lynne, we are grateful that you continue to listen and support our space in the podcast world. You are making a difference in the intersections of your lives and we appreciate all of you who have reached out to share your stories with us.

As we end one year and rise to a new one, we invite you to rest, care, nourish, and love yourself unapologetically. Anchor in your sufficiency. You are enough and whole just as you are.

From the four of us, thank you for being here, for your time, for your support. We can’t wait to continue the conversation with you next year!

FMC | Episode 03x10: Our Faith-Based Recovery Experience, Part 2

Welcome, Filipino Momcast listeners!

When you think of someone going through a recovery program, what thoughts surface to the top?

And, if you've been through a recovery program, what do you wish others knew about your experience?

In this 2-part episode, Maryann and myself share our own experiences entering recovery for codependence through a faith-based recovery program called Celebrate Recovery.

As we share our story, we hope you’ll find helpful wisdom and support for your own journey or someone you know. While our experience takes place through a faith-based program, we respect and honor the different spiritual practices of our audience. Our goal is never to let our beliefs create division, but to share our experiences that you may find resources that align with your needs and goals.

We hope this episode brings a new level of awareness and perspective in how we all can be more informed in our approach to ourselves and others.

FMC | Episode 03x08: The Impact of Extremism

FMC | Episode 03x08: The Impact of Extremism

Welcome, Filipino Momcast listeners!

Have you ever found yourself so convicted of a certain truth that when others don’t share the same views it seems like they’re the problem? Or they’re the one’s who are wrong?

As the world around you continues to shout what’s right and wrong, good and bad, you can easily find yourself caught in your own form of extremism. Going undetected, you might not realize how harmful your behaviors towards yourself or others you care about can be when you so desperately want to be helpful.

In this episode, Maryann, Roanne, and Lynne use the lens of religion and other experiences to shine a light on the topic of extremism. As the conversation evolves, you’ll gain insight and perspective around how you might have some polarizing and absolute views of your own and how to maintain kindness in its midst.

We hope this episode brings a new level of awareness and perspective in how we all can be more thoughtful and kind in our approach to helping and lifting others up.

If you enjoy what we’re talking about here on the podcast, we would love your support! The best ways to do that are by:

FMC | Episode 03x07: Sexuality Minus Religion with Jo Portia

FMC | Episode 03x07: Sexuality Minus Religion with Jo Portia

Welcome, Filipino Momcast listeners!

We have a special Part 2 for you all that needed it's own episode! In this episode, Jo Portia Mayari joins the conversation to help us understand sexuality without the lens of religion over it. You'll want to tune in!

As a sexual wealth coach her deepest passion is in helping women/femmes embody abundance, pleasure, and power in sex, love, and money by awakening their sacred sexuality.

Through her coaching and online platforms, she creates safe and brave spaces to normalize taboo topics surrounding female sexuality in order to shine a light on the societal, cultural, and/or religious programming that prevents us from healing our trauma, being at home in our bodies, and experiencing true wholeness and liberation.

By fusing the tantra rituals with practical tools for empowerment, she has helped thousands of students, clients & followers make meaningful choices & powerful changes in their lives.

Her work has been quoted and featured by The Every Girl, Shape, Elle Magazine, L.A. Times, Coveteur Magazine, and Well + Good. In 2018, she was named as one of the Top 20 Health + Wellness Role Models by Arianna Huffington and Thrive Global.

Her mission is to give women the tools to thrive at a high vibe spiritual, physical, and emotional state of being using their sexual energy. She loves guiding women through practices and rituals that allow them to heal the wounds that have kept them unfulfilled in sex, relationships, and their life.

She is devoted to helping women reconnect to the power of their voice, body, and sensuality, and facilitate deep transformation for sexual sovereignty.

If you enjoy what we’re talking about here on the podcast, we would love your support! The best ways to do that are by:

I mean, who are we even trying to fool, mamas? We don’t like any of it unless it’s done the way we want it, so of course we want to correct it, amiright? LOL

In all seriousness though, our reactions and body language to our child’s behaviors can have a long-lasting impact and that’s what we’re bringing to the table in this episode. So get ready for some helpful tips and examples as you listen to another insightful and encouraging conversation here at the Filipino Momcast.

FMC | Episode 03x02: Co-Creating The 4th Trimester w/ Nani Dominguez

Welcome, Filipino Momcast listeners!

There is a first time for everything - but there’s nothing like being a first-time mom!

The labor and delivery experience, short hours of sleep, cracked nipples, and everything else that comes with your new responsibility of keeping a new human alive. Back in Season 2, Episodes 6 & 7, we shared the mic with our dear friend Nani Dominguez, blog author of Notes by Nani and fellow co-host of The Filipino American Woman Project (you should check it out!), who was 7-8 months pregnant at the time of that recording and anticipating her first child’s arrival, a little boy.

Well, he’s here now, healthy as can be and we are getting the scoop on how the first 3 months have been transitioning to motherhood!

Whether you’re a soon-to-be mama, a veteran at the game, or know someone who would enjoy some unfiltered conversation on the topic, we encourage you to send them this episode to include them in the conversation. We don’t want you OR THEM missing out on any of this.

FMC | Episode 02x13: Combating Mom Guilt

FMC | Episode 02x13: Combating Mom Guilt

Hey, Filipino Momcast listeners! Welcome to the finale of Season 2, Episode 13 on the Filipino Momcast!

Well, here we are! The finale of Season 2 - can you believe it??

To close off our 2nd season, we unpack the topic of Combating Mom Guilt: why we feel guilty and put ourselves last and how we can honor ourselves first without the guilt.

A lot of us carry this weight and can certainly identify as to how heavy it can be. While we navigate this alongside of you, we hope our conversation in this episode encourages and gives you permission to lighten the load to whatever feels right for you.

As we each take a much needed break and embrace the upcoming holidays and close out 2021, on behalf of your FMC family, thank you so much for being a loyal listener of the show and giving us the opportunity to step into 18 countries through these conversations.

YOU as a listener are the reason we can collectively cultivate change for ourselves, our family, and our community so please know that the praise belongs to you for lending us your ear and trusting us with your time so that we can show up safely and imperfectly so others know they aren’t alone.

As always, thank you for sharing the load with us. You making time to find content that resonates and helps you know better and do better, whether it’s our content or someone else’s, displays a strength that others may never know or understand.

WE DO and know this is the biggest gift you could give to yourself that will keep giving for generations to come.

While we don’t have a set date for the launch of Season 3, the best way to stay in the know is by subscribing to the podcast for update notifications.

Our contact information is also in the podcast description, so feel free to connect with any of us even in the off season because we’d love to hear from you!

In closing, supporting this show whether it’s by sharing it with another Filipino mom, tagging us through your posts/stories on social media, and/or leaving us an honest 5 star review does more for us collectively than you’ll ever know.

Thank you for showing up!

With that said, Merry Christmas and Happy New Years from each of our families to yours.

Join us now as we close out Season 2 with Episode 13.

FMC | Episode 2x08: Dear FMC - Navigating Post-Pandemic Life

Hey, Filipino Momcast listeners! Welcome back to Season 2, Episode 8 on the Filipino Momcast!

If you are joining us for the first time, we are so happy you’re here! This little space in the podcast world that bravely opens up conversations around Filipino culture and generational narratives. We are three moms living here in America, in three different states, with completely different upbringings and experiences, and we’ve come together to share unapologetically our experiences of how we are deconstructing and navigating this challenging journey called life.

From parenting to everything in and around what you’d talk about with a group of close friends, we talk about here on the show to help other Filipinos and Filipino moms just like us.

In this episode, we are answering an email from a Filipino Momcast listener asking for some insight on how to Navigate Post-Pandemic Life.

Coming from a close knit family, this filipino mom was pregnant, a toddler in tow, and strictly adhering to quarantine protocol when she asked her parents if they could watch her first-born when she gave birth and if they could quarantine. She notes that the request for her parents to quarantine was tough. So she ended up asking a friend who was strictly quarantining to watch her child when she went into labor and didn’t tell her parents until after her son arrived. Asking them to quarantine after the baby was born, was just as difficult.

Her question then was this: “How can I navigate post pandemic life with all this resentment? Do i just give in and start coming around again?”

So, the three of us unpack the resentment that's built up in this episode. Let us know if this resonates with you. How have you been navigating situations like these? We would love to know!

If you found this conversation on Working On Co-Regulation helpful, it would mean the world to us if you could:
1) share the podcast with another Filipino mom (or honestly, anyone!)
2) post about the podcast through social media, and/or
3) leave us an honest 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you’re using to listen to us on.

Any of these not only validates the 3 of us that the work we’re doing here matters, but more importantly, it allows us the opportunity to reach one more soul that no longer has to feel like they’re the one person going through it, simply through your advocacy.

FMC | Episode 2x05: BONUS - From Airfrying To Dutch Bros

Hey, Filipino Momcast listeners! Welcome back to the 5th Episode of Season 2 on the Filipino Momcast!

We thought we’d share a fun, candid bonus conversation after one of our recording sessions. Normally when the three of us record these episodes, we end right around dinner time which often leads to the question: “What’s For Dinner”. This is when Roanne ends up hopping off because she actually has to make dinner, haha! We think you’ll enjoy this episode as the dinner conversation transitions from airfryers, to instant pots, and landing at Dutch bros. For our listeners outside of the US, Dutch Bros is a drive-thru coffee company with hundreds of locations throughout the country. And, no, this episode is not sponsored by them.

Anyhow, we know it's random and hope you’ll enjoy the silliness. It’s a peak into what happens when you leave Maryann and I to talking… we’re a little crazy and we’ll go EVERYWHERE.

Don't forget, if you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, be sure to pause this episode and catch listen in because there are certainly some nuggets there that you’ll want before coming into this episode.

FMC | Episode 2x04: CW - Navigating Anti-Asian Hate With Kids **CONTENT WARNING**

Hey, Filipino Momcast listeners! Welcome back to the Season 2, Episode 4 on the Filipino Momcast!

Before we get into all the usual intro formalities, Maryann, Roanne, and Lynne have decided to preface this particular episode with a cautionary content warning for our listeners. We will be talking about how we are navigating Anti-Asian Hate with our children and in doing so, we will also be sharing the conversation we had after the fatal incidents that unfolded at the beginning of this year on March 16, 2021 in the Atlanta-area of Georgia at three Asian-owned massage parlors.

It’s important for us to give this conversation room to be shared, but we understand that many of the incidents within our community and the energy around Anti-Asian Hate that we share individually and collectively is full of big emotions.

With that said, we ask that as a listener, for you to check in with yourself and your current emotional and mental capacity BEFORE consuming the contents of this episode. You know yourself better than anyone and we want to encourage you to exercise discernment. Whatever you decide is up to you and in either case, please know we fully support and honor whatever you feel is true for you. Thank you for choosing YOU.

2) post about the podcast through social media, and/or
3) leave us an honest 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you’re using to listen to us on.

Your validation means the world, but more important than that, it allows us to reach one more sibling that doesn’t need to feel alone in the journey, simply by sharing.

Join us now as we jump into the Season 2, Episode 4.

We share our stories of how we are deconstructing and navigating this journey of parenting (and everything in between) to help other Filipino moms just like us.

On behalf of the three of us, it really feels so good to be back on here and sharing new conversations with you all! With Father’s Day coming up this week, in this episode, you’ll hear our Resident Therapist, Roanne, facilitate a conversation for Maryann and Lynne to share how they were able to lean on their partners during the deepest moments of their mental illnesses and how they were offered grace and space to heal.

If you found this talk on Partner Support During Mental Illness helpful, it would mean the world to us if you could:
1) share the podcast with another Filipino mom (or honestly, anyone!)
2) post about the podcast through social media, and/or
3) leave us an honest 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you’re using to listen to us on.

Any of these not only validates the 3 of us that the work we’re doing here matters, but more importantly, it allows us the opportunity to reach one more soul that no longer has to feel like they’re the one person going through it, simply through your advocacy.

We are excited to continue the conversation with you. Join us as we launch Season Two, Episode One!

Hey, hey, Filipino MomCast Listeners! Welcome back to Episode 8 and to Part II of our Sibling Unrivalry Series where the focus will be on How to Un-Do Harmful Competition in Our Children.

This is Part II of the Sibling Unrivalry series, so if you haven't yet listened to Part I, it'll make more sense if you do. Click here.

Earlier we worked on creating positive sibling relationship with our children, the more opportunities we give them to practice every day interpersonal skills. These interpersonal skills teach children the intrinsic rewards they reap when they  give and receive positive feedback loop with their siblings/peers.

Caregivers/Parents are in the position to plant the seed of this positive feedback loop by modeling and providing an environment where a child feels capable of supporting others while getting this same type of support.

In this episode, Roanne provides a few tips on how to Un-do harmful competition in our children.

Thank you for tuning into another episode and for sharing how this podcast is impacting your lives and those around you. We love seeing the shares and photos of yourself listening! Tag us on social media and any insights you’re taking away!

FMC | Episode 1x06: Transplanting To a New State

Hey, Filipino Momcast listeners! Welcome back to Episode 6 of the Filipino Momcast!

In this episode, Maryann and Lynne share their experiences of moving to a brand new state as former Baydestrians. For anyone that doesn’t know, that basically means those who are born and raised in the Bay Area, haha.

We appreciate you for listening and for sharing how this podcast is changing your lives. Jennifer of FlippFamily recently shared: "Listened to this episode during my morning walk! It hits all the points about what goes on in a mom’s head. All those thoughts of guilt and how to cope." Jennifer, thank you for sharing your take aways with us and how the Filipino Momcast is helping you.

We don’t ever know how our show is impacting you all so if there is something that resonates, please share it on social media and tag us! You can also DM us if that’s more your style, too.

Also, if you have another Filipino mama in your life who needs encouragement or even if they’re not filipino, but can benefit by learning more about how to connect with Filipino moms, we encourage you to share the podcast with them. We have been getting some great feedback on how this is helping those who come in contact with Filipino moms and how they can serve them better.
