#20: Wes Anderson Films
On episode 20, Bryan welcomes back Kristin Willoughby to discuss their favorite films directed by Wes Anderson. Knowing for his unique and eccentricity storytelling with distinctive visuals, Anderson has been heavily regarded as a modern-day auteur by critics and audiences. His work has been widely celebrated by cinephiles around the globe, since his feature-film debut with "Bottle Rocket" from 1996. Having produced films such as, "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Moonrise Kingdom", "The Darjeeling Limited" and "The Royal Tenenbaums", Anderson has also delved into animation with "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Isle of Dogs". His stories are filled with wonderful comedic timing, but also with deeper, emotional moments that leave audiences being in awe of his work. There is no other filmmaker out there working today like Anderson. He stands out on his own, which makes us love him even more. Having been nominated for seven Academy Awards, he is certainly bound to win one in the future. #19: Guillermo del Toro Films
On episode 19, Bryan welcomes Brett der Wiese to discuss their favorite films directed by Guillermo del Toro. The acclaimed Mexican filmmaker's work has been characterized by a connection to horror and fairy tales, while incorporating a visually poetic feeling towards them. His appreciation for monsters, practical special effects and religious imagery has been widely appreciated. Having tackled independent dramas like "Cronos" and "The Devil's Backbone" to blockbuster tentpoles like the "Hellboy" films and "Pacific Rim", it wasn't until 2018 when del Toro won his first Academy Award for directing the romantic fantasy "The Shape of Water". His career continues going in fascinating directions and we don't see it going sour for quite some time. On episode 18, Bryan welcomes Kathia Woods to discuss their favorite films starring Adam Driver. A former Marine, he has only been acting in films since 2011 when making his debut in Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar". Throughout the past decade, Driver has been collaborating with incredible filmmakers one after the other, including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, J.J. Abrams and Noah Baumbach. While receiving some notoriety in independent features, it wasn't until he was cast as Kylo Ren in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy that launched him into a household name. He has been heavily regarded as one of the best actors of his generation and has received two consecutive Oscar nominations for "BlacKkKlansman" and "Marriage Story". The phenomenal line of work Driver has done since his feature film debut is impressive and it'll be exciting what roles he tackles next. On episode 17, Bryan welcomes Joel Copling to discuss their favorite films starring Tom Hanks. Considered by many as "America's dad", six-time Oscar nominee Hanks has been acting since the early '80s after getting his start by appearing on sitcoms, such as "Happy Days", "Family Ties" and "The Love Boat", as well as the starring role in "Bosom Buddies" and later snagging lead roles in the films: "Splash" and "Bachelor Party". Since 1988's "Big", he has been acting in project after project, including "Saving Private Ryan", "Road to Perdition", "Toy Story" and "Captain Phillips", showing his true versatility as an actor, as well as a director. Hanks won two back-to-back Best Actor Oscars for "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump" respectively. There's no one like Hanks working in the industry today and there'll never be a day where he isn't regarded as one of the best actors of all time. The two-time Oscar nominated filmmaker is best known for tackling projects involving gothic fantasy and horror, with films such as "Beetlejuice", "Edward Scissorhands", "Corpse Bride", "Sweeney Todd" and "Frankenweenie". He has also directed blockbusters including "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", "Batman", "Ed Wood", "Big Fish" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Since his debut in 1985, Burton has been noted as a visionary filmmaker with a mind unlike any other working in the industry. Frequently working with many talented actors including Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as composer Danny Elfman, Burton hasn't stepped away from pumping out one film after the other. Compiling a list of our favorites was a challenge, but definitely a wild one that was a blast. The comic actor's career was launched in 1990 after appearing on the sketch series "In Living Color", but expanded even more in 1994 after starring in three back-to-back comedy hits: "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", "The Mask" and "Dumb and Dumber". He has also starred in popular comedies, such as "Liar Liar", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", "Bruce Almighty" and the recently-released "Sonic the Hedgehog". Carrey also has ventured into dramatic territory, which garnered him critical acclaim and heavy awards buzz for his performances in "The Truman Show", "Man on the Moon" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." For nearly 30 years, he has made audiences around the world laugh to his energetic slapstick performances, while also being in awe with his serious works. While he hasn't pumped out as many hits as he did early on, he's still highly regarded as one of the finest comic actors to have come our way. With 11 directorial efforts under his mantle, the British-American filmmaker has tackled films that stand out in an original and unique fashion compared to a majority of the Hollywood blockbusters released nowadays. Making his debut in 1998 with "Following", Nolan's films has grossed more than $5 billion worldwide and garnered 34 Oscar nominations, including two for Best Original Screenplay and one for Best Director. With films that include "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "Inception" and "Dunkirk", there has yet to be a film from the director to receive negative reception from critics. He is one of the most respected filmmakers working today and it's unlikely that will change anytime soon.
