Finding ANZers about Australian partner visa

Finding ANZers about Australian partner visa

One of the more complex visas that Pinoys go through is a partner visa. We’ve received a few questions about this particular visa so we decided to invite someone who can talk to us about her experience with it.

We've asked Tina's friend to sit down with us in this episode to share her insights, experience and tips about partner visa having done it herself.

Caveat lang noh mga ka-beshies, again, we’re no migration agents and this episode will only talk about our guest’s own experience. So you can get ideas from today’s episode and as usual, we suggest that you still do your own research, go to the Department of Home Affairs website to know more (the information you need to know are all there), and consider talking to an expert like a migration agent.

***

Meet Elesiah Trance - Shang for short. Shang is this intelligent, savvy and street smart woman who has successfully landed great corporate jobs in PH and Australia, and also processed her own partner visa. And kabeshies, she has recently been granted the visa! So listen to this episode to learn about how she did it!

Finding ANZers about moving house

Finding ANZers about moving house

As Tina moved into her new place, the hosts talked about their experience of moving house in Auckland and Melbourne.

They took on a new format - TRUE OR FALSE - and tackled these burning questions:

  • Finding a place to move is fun and easy - many options to choose from and there’s plenty of supply!
  • Since we are in first world countries, moving house is so efficient and such a breeze.
  • Living solo is so much more expensive. So it’s always better to live with housemates on a flat-sharing arrangement.
  • Most houses for rent in Australia and New Zealand are fully-furnished - so no need to worry about investing on your own furniture, beddings, housewares, and even parking is provided!
  • Given the Covid-19 pandemic, house options and setup in Australia and New Zealand are now fully equipped to support working-from-home situations.
  • I follow certain traditions/superstitions while choosing and moving into a new house (feng shui and example: rice and salt should be the first items to enter the house)

Finding ANZers: Part 2 - about Filipino work ethics abroad

Finding ANZers: Part 2 - about Filipino work ethics abroad

So last week we talked about the Filipino work ethics abroad - and sat down with Jay-r's previous manager Sundae who talked about her observations and workplace tips for Pinoys abroad. We sure learned a lot and WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH! So we invited Tina's previous boss to join us and break it down further for us!

Meet Matt Proft! Tina used to work with him in her past life in Manila - promoting Australian businesses in the Philippines. He was their Trade Commissioner based in Manila for a few months. He led the team promoting Australian products and services in the Philippines, and he worked with the Manila team in implementing campaigns and rolling out events.

Fast forward to today, he’s now working in the New South Wales Treasury creating support for startups, scaleups and Ecosystem partners.

---

Matt talked to us about his experience working with Filipinos, what's unique about them, challenges they face when working abroad, and why the Filipino diaspora exists (Pinoys working all over the world).

Finding ANZers about moving and settling into a new country [PART 2]

Finding ANZers about moving and settling into a new country [PART 2]

This episode is a continuation of Part 1 from two weeks ago, talking about moving and settling overseas this time from the POV of our fellow kababayans. We unpacked the tips and strategies for going through the big move - starting from the Philippines and finally into the early days in Australia and New Zealand.

Hear from an awesome mix of friends - one who studied in Melbourne and another who's now working in Auckland. We also got a few questions from our beshies and we tried to cover their questions.

Can you use your Philippine IDs here? Where can you buy furniture? How can you transport them to your new home if you don't have a car yet? What's budgeting like as compared to Philippine costs?

Thanks to our guests for answering these q's for us!

Kina Santillan-Pascua is a good friend of Tina who she met through work. She studied in Melbourne after getting a scholarship from Australia Awards and her then boyfriend, now husband, eventually followed as a fee-paying/full-paying student.  She’s now back in the Philippines, a mom to two beautiful daughters and has worked in the development sector since.

Ginel Taguba is Tina's friend all the way from high school. Two years ago Tina and Ginel were comparing notes about migrating to Australia, New Zealand and even Canada! Ginel finally got the silver fern visa and has been happily working and living in New Zealand for a year now with her partner.

In this episode, we talk about moving and settling into a new city. What do you need to organize and prepare for in transitioning to a new country?

A two-part episode, Finding ANZers will shed light on how working people and students alike have done to prepare for the big move and what their experiences are like adjusting to their new country.

Finding ANZers about surprising ways-of-life abroad

Finding ANZers about surprising ways-of-life abroad

Drinking water from the tap. Drivers giving way to pedestrians. Use of dishwashers (the machine, not Axion!) when cleaning plates.
These are just few of our favourite discoveries. Moving abroad can uncover so many different ways of doing things, at least from how we're used to in the Philippines. Some more shocking than others!
If you're curious about common "culture shocks" of Pinoys who have moved abroad, then sit back and make this episode your next white noise. ;)
