Is It Really Time to Sell Your Cards or Is the Hobby Just Warming Up?; Weighing In on The Wemby Card Cleaning Controversy; Playing Another Fun Round of "Over/Under"

EPISODE 201 - Clark, Hyung, and John discuss the Victor Wembanyama card cleaning controversy off the top of the show. Should it be considered altered or is it fair game to clean and submit to graders?

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys give their take on the current state of the hobby and respond to some of Cage the Lawyer's critique of where he thinks the hobby stands at this moment. They also dive deeper into Kevin O'Leary's more recent interest in investing in the hobby and the optimism he holds for sports cards as a viable alternative asset class.

Afterwards, they play another round of "Over/Under" where Clark gives a list of five cards to Hyung and John, and then they guess whether the last sold price is over or under $4,000.

Lastly, Clark, Hyung, and John play their weekly segment "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

Interview With Coach Koe on Connor Bedard Mania, Topps Hobby Rip Night With Tom Brady, And Creating Consistent Hobby Content; Kevin O'Leary Enters The Hobby?

EPISODE 199 - Clark and Hyung open the show sharing their thoughts on Kevin O'Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, the popular entrepreneur and investor on Shark Tank, ripping cards with Shyne and possibly coming into the hobby space.

He's been traveling across the continent attending several card shows producing a ton of content as well as sharing a stage with Tom Brady in the recent Topps Hobby Rip Night event at Citi Field.

As a fellow Canadian collector, Coach Koe and Clark also talked about the state of the hockey card market and whether Connor Bedard mania has had any impact on growing more interest in hockey cards in general and especially in the United States.

To end the show, Clark and Hyung return to play "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

CardLadder Indexes Trending Up in 2024 A Bullish Sign for the Hobby?; Another Smart Move by Panini America in Signing Caitlin Clark; Playing Another Round of "Would You Rather"

CardLadder Indexes Trending Up in 2024 A Bullish Sign for the Hobby?; Another Smart Move by Panini America in Signing Caitlin Clark; Playing Another Round of "Would You Rather"

EPISODE 198 - Clark, Hyung, and John start the show discussing the recent signing of Caitlin Clark to an exclusive signing deal by Panini America. Was this a smart move by Panini and will rookie autograph cards of Caitlin Clark hold any longterm value?

Next, for Hobby Headlines, the guys take a look at several CardLadder indexes with many of them looking up in the first two months of 2024. In contrast, the trend has generally been negative since 2021. So is this the beginning of a bigger positive trend for the remainder of the year or is this just a blip and there's more room to go down?

Afterward, they play a round of "Would You Rather?" where Clark offers Hyung and John a hobby-related scenario and they have to choose one (ie. Buy 3 boxes of 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 2 for $1,000 or just one Connor Bedard Young Guns base card for the same amount of money.)

Finally, as usual, the guys end the show with "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

Buying Into the Connor Bedard Young Guns Frenzy?; Monopoly Prizm Basketball Cards Worth the Hype?

EPISODE 197 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show giving their thoughts on the Monopoly Prizm basketball cards with the big chase being the Victor Wembanyama 1/1s (worth an estimated $30,000.) Are they worth the hype?

They move on to discuss the Connor Bedard Young Guns mania and whether the base cards valued at $700 are sustainable and whether it's worth ripping a hobby box currently on sale for $300. Plus they give their two cents on the social media post of the collector who pulled a Bedard Young Guns but took up the card store's offer to trade it in for another new hobby box. That box didn't yield any hits and the card store allegedly listed the Young Guns base card for $1,000. Who's at fault here?

Then for Hobby Headlines, they discuss the Collectors (parent company of PSA) recent acquisition of SGC including what that could mean for the future of grading, how it impacts competitors namely Beckett (BGS), and whether it's a good thing overall for the hobby.

Next, they play another round of Quiz Show where Clark quizzes Hyung on a few hobby-related questions (ie. How much did a single pack of 1979-80 O Pee Chee hockey cards cost back in 1979?)

Finally, as usual, the guys end the show with "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

Discussing PSA President Ryan Hoge's Statements About Grading in Forbes Article; Panini Deal With LIV Golf Enough to Save Company?; Playing Over/Under with Hits from 2024 Topps Series 1

EPISODE 195 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show talking about the announcement that Panini America recently secured a deal with LIV Golf to produce such trading cards as Panini Prizm Golf. Will this be enough to put Panini back on track even after losing some of the major sports licenses?

Then they move on to Hobby Headlines where they discuss the Forbes article more in depth titled, "How PSA Built An Industry Leader Around Grading and Authentication." In the interview with PSA President Ryan Hoge, the guys go over some key quotes from the article to see if they agree or disagree with him.

Afterwards, they play another round of Over/Under where Clark gives them a card and a dollar amount, while Hyung and John guess if the last sold price was over or under the aforementioned dollar value. The theme for this segment is hits from the 2024 Topps Series 1 baseball card set.

Finally, as they normally do each week, the guys end the show with "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

They include the MLS Debut patches, the Facetime call between Michael Rubin and Kevin Hart, and the Victor Wembanyama Black Shimmer 1/1 being pulled by a Chinese breaker.

They go through several points to see if they agree or disagree with some of the quotes about the state of the hobby coming from Rubin, as well as CEO of Fanatics Collectibles Mike Mahan.

Genius Marketing Moves: Fanatics Live $10K Break Credit for Pulling Grails and Victor Wembanyama "No Autograph" Card?; Ranking Iconic Cards Based on Most Desirable to Least for PC

EPISODE 189 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show giving their two cents on the Victor Wembanyama "No Autograph" Card and wonder if this is it for Panini America?

Moving on to Hobby Headlines, the guys dig deeper into the announcement that Fanatics Live is offering a $10,000 break credit for anyone that pulls one of the grail sports cards in "The 10" list. It includes the 2009 Topps Chrome superfractor rookie card of Stephen Curry as well as the Black 1/1 2018 Luka Doncic Panini Prizm just to name a couple. Is this promo good for the hobby? Will it force other breakers to provide incentives for collectors in the future? Or is this just a gimmick?

Then afterwards they introduce a new segment called "Rank Them" in which they rank different sets of cards chosen by Clark in the order of which one would be the most desirable to the least for their PC collection (ie. Shohei Ohtani 2018 Bowman Chrome superfractor autograph card vs. 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle vs. T206 Honus Wagner.)

Lastly, they end the show with "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in.

How Pro Athletes Becoming Collectors Can Help Boost The Hobby; Babe Ruth Bat in Future Relic Cards?; Guessing Last Sold Prices of Sports Cards in "Over/Under" Game

EPISODE 186 - Clark and Hyung open the show talking about the Babe Ruth bat that Topps teased in a post on the X platform, which may find its way onto future relic cards.

Then moving on to Hobby Headlines, the guys talk about professional athletes who have gotten involved in the hobby (ie. Corbin Carroll, Evan Longoria, Mike Trout, Bobby Witt Jr.) and what the impact of that has been in growing the sports card industry. They also brainstorm what else they could do to further promote the hobby.

Afterwards, they play a round of "Over/Under" where Clark picks a specific card with a specific grade and calls out a dollar amount. Then Hyung guesses whether the last sold price of the aforementioned card is over or under the specified dollar amount. Cards in this round include the Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer rookie card (PSA 10) and the LeBron James 2003 Topps Chrome Refractor.

Lastly, the guys play "Pick 1" with Hyung putting up Jackson Chourio and Jackson Holliday rookie cards against each other; Clark puts up the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1st Bowman base auto (which he just sold) vs. the Guerrero Jr. Topps Chrome blue refractor /150 going for around the same price (BGS 9.5).

Afterwards, Clark, John, and Will brainstorm new ideas to make the hobby more interesting in the "Just A Thought" segment.

Finally, the guys play "Pick 1" with Will putting up a "Discard" error card from the Disney Lorcana set vs. a Charizard 1st Edition (PSA 7); John makes up a scenario where the Shohei Ohtani Topps Now card signed by himself and Mike Trout is put up against the Ohtani Bowman Chrome superfractor; Clark puts up the Sidney Crosby Young Guns rookie card vs. Alexander Ovechkin Young Guns rookie – both PSA 10.

Iconic Tracker Tool by Gemrate Yields Surprising Data On Just How Many Iconic Cards Submitted for Grading Monthly; Reacting to Reported 21% Fake Michael Jordan Fleer Cards Submitted to PSA in 2023

EPISODE 180 - Clark and John open the show by reacting to Collectors CEO Nat Turner's recent social media post about 2,000+ Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer rookie cards being submitted to PSA with 21% having been deemed fake. Will that have any impact on the overall value of this iconic basketball card moving forward with (a) the number of submissions each year, and (b) potential fakes slipping through the grading system?

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys explore the new Iconic Tracker tool by gemrate.com, which keeps track of how many of the top 100 sports cards are submitted to the major grading companies on a monthly basis.

They go over eight such cards to see if they're surprised by the number of submissions as well as if there are anything to be learned from the data.

NOTE: The rest of the show was not recorded for some reason hence the shorter Tuesday episode. The "Pick 1" segment teased on last Friday's episode will be re-recorded next week!

Discussing Michael Rubin's Recent Comments About the Hobby On Bill Simmons Podcast; Hobby Impact of Shohei Going to Dodgers vs Jays; Babe Ruth $7.2M Card Sale Worth It?

EPISODE 178 - Clark and Hyung open the show discussing the recent sale of the Babe Ruth 1914 Baltimore News pre-rookie card (SGC 3) for an astounding $7.2 million.

Then they get into Michael Rubin's interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast where he talked about the sports card industry for nearly 16 full minutes.

From the interview, Clark pulled eight quotes/excerpts where Rubin provides some insightful observations since Fanatics got into the collectibles space, which ranged from how the company dealt with the redemption card issue to trying to innovate in the hobby (ie. MLB Debut Patch).

Then the guys reacted to some of Rubin's comments whether they agreed, disagreed, or had anything else to add to them.

Next, in a new segment called "Hobby Impact," they went over some of the recent free agent signing and rumours in MLB including whether Shohei Ohtani signing with the Dodgers or the Blue Jays would be better for the hobby (this podcast episode was recorded before the Ohtani to the Dodgers news).

They also touched on Juan Soto going to the Yankees, and speculation on where Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Cody Bellinger would sign.

Finally, Clark and Hyung play "Pick 1" - the regular weekly segment where each of them pick two cards and then debate which one they'd rather invest in. Hyung put up Shohei Ohtani's Topps Gold rookie card ($2K) vs. Juan Soto's Topps Gold ($1.2K); Clark put up Corbin Carroll's 1st Bowman Chrome autograph card PSA 10 ($850) vs. Gunnar Henderson's 1st Bowman Chrome autograph card PSA 10 ($520).

The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Repacks; Plus Long-Awaited Interview with Pokemon Card Collector Roy on the Booming Market (And the Basics of Collecting/Flipping Pokemon Cards)

EPISODE 177 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show discussing the controversial topic of repacks - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Then they welcome their good friend and go-to Pokemon card collector Roy who is there to help answer many of their Pokemon-related questions.

While the sports card market is down, there are big gains being made from buying and selling Pokemon cards. So Roy was invited to help the guys learn the basics of Pokemon cards, what characters and cards are popular, which sets are iconic and rare, common terminology used by Pokemon card collectors, and much more.

Then Roy sticks around with the boys to play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in.

Roy starts things off by asking whether they would rather have a $10K Pokemon card that continues to grow in value but they can never sell, or a $2K sports card they could do whatever with. Hyung asks if the Jackson Chourio 1st Bowman Chrome autograph card is a better investment or the Ronald Acuna 1st Bowman Chrome autograph card at double the price; and John puts up the Frank Thomas NNOF error card PSA 10 (Pop 1) vs. the Derek Jeter SP Foil PSA 10 (Pop 21).

Lessons To Be Learned From The "Megabid" Controversy; Dual Autograph Ohtani and Babe Ruth Worth $100K?; Casting Way Too Early Votes on 2024 MLB Rookie of the Year and MVP

EPISODE 175 - Clark and Hyung open the show giving their initial thoughts on the 2023 Topps Definitive Collection set including the big chase, the dual autograph 1/1 cards of Shohei Ohtani and Babe Ruth, and whether it's worth the $100K bounty.

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys address the controversy surrounding Rob G., aka Sports Card Therapist, but focus more on what lessons can be learned from it. They also talk about "megabids" as well as what they would do as a content creator if caught in a similar controversy.

Then Clark and Hyung "cast their vote" in a new segment on recent lists that Major League Baseball put out asking followers who they think could win their first MVP next season, which rookie can rise to stardom in 2024, and who could get into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Then the guys bring it back to the hobby and decide whether they would invest in that player's cards.

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung asks whether the aforementioned 1/1 dual autograph card of Ohtani and Babe Ruth is a better investment or a 1933 Babe Ruth Goudey; Clark asks which would be better to buy – a Jackson Chourio base 1st Bowman Chrome autograph at $800 or a Jackson Holliday base 1st Bowman Chrome autograph at $500 (both PSA 10s).

Ranking the Biggest Hobby Mistakes in 2023 (Including Recent Wemby 1/1 Card in Wrong Product); Impact of Leaf Trading Cards Under New Ownership; Presenting Some Hobby Hot Takes!

EPISODE 174 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show discussing the news that Leaf Trading Cards was recently acquired by Orange Mountain Capital. What does that mean for Leaf product and should collectors be excited for it?

Next for Hobby Headlines, the guys talk about the big mistake by Panini America with the Victor Wembanyama Nebular Prizm 1/1 pulled from the wrong hobby product. Then they compare that hobby mistake to the other notable ones in 2023 such as the Babe Ruth cut autograph booklet featuring George Brett's autograph instead, as well as the 2023 Bowman Chrome duplicate superfractor fiasco.

Then Clark, Hyung, and John present some new hobby hot takes and subsequently discuss how "hot" their respective takes actually are.

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung asks which player would they rather invest in long-term: Shohei Ohtani or Luka Doncic; John asks what side they'd choose with the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle (PSA 8) on one side, and then six more modern grail cards across different sports on the other; and last, Clark puts up the 1st Bowman base autograph card of Mookie Betts and Juan Soto against one another with both BGS 9.5/10 cards going for about $1,000.

Interview With Raymond Li (Co-Founder of Veriswap) On How The App Makes Trade Night 24/7; Examining the Roll Out of MLB Debut Patch Cards

EPISODE 173 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show discussing the roll out of the MLB Debut Patch baseball cards in 2023 Topps Chrome Update products. More specifically, they give their two cents on breakers getting the live cards in the product while hobby/jumbo/retail boxes have the hits come as redemption cards.

With the option to send off the redemption cards to grading companies such as Beckett, SGC, and CGC (yes, no PSA), the question is does this mean the redeemed card that's shipped directly from the manufacturer to the grader will return automatically with a high grade. If not, why not?

Oh, and there's another bounty from Dave & Adam's for the top chase cards in the set (ie. Anthony Volpe and Jordan Walker.)

Then Clark welcomes Raymond Li, Co-Founder of Veriswap, to the podcast where he shares all the pertinent details of his app, which allows collectors to trade their cards securely online.

They also touch upon some of Raymond's personal grail cards and some big trades that have already happened on Veriswap (think tens of thousands of dollars in trade value!)

Staying Active In The Hobby By Set Collecting On A Budget; Brainstorming Ideas To Make the Hobby More Fun; Where Should Shohei Sign in Free Agency For Boost in Hobby Value?

EPISODE 172 - Clark and John welcome back Will to the podcast to fill in for Hyung. To open the show, they first discuss the news that LeBron James is signing autographs for Topps/Fanatics again. They also give their initial reaction on seeing the dual autograph 1/1 card featuring LeBron with his son Bronny.

Also off the top, the guys talk about Shohei Ohtani and where he could possibly land in MLB free agency, and what team would boost his value the most in the hobby.

Next for Hobby Headlines, they share how set collecting on a budget can be a good way to keep active in the hobby while the state of the market and economy are down. Some creative ways to set collect including PCing your favorite player and going after each of the parallels within a particular set. Or to collect players from your home team within a subset (ie. Blank Slate cards.)

Then afterwards, the guys brainstorm ideas to make the hobby more fun or better in the "Just A Thought" segment. One idea includes introducing a "pizzafractor" with a game plan on how collectors could win pizza for life. Another is to return base cards to an LCS for store credit (not unlike the bottle return system at liquor stores.)

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. John puts up three Canadian hockey player cards vs. three U.S.A. hockey player cards; Will asks whether it's better to invest in a 1/1 card in a non-rookie year vs. a limited card in a rookie year within a mid-tier set. Then Clark asks whether it's better to buy the cheaper 2023 Topps Update hobby box or go for the more expensive 2023 Topps Chrome Update hobby box.

EPISODE 166 - Clark, Hyung and John start the show by talking about the "First Stitch" relic sports cards, which can be found in 2023 Topps Update, and whether it's worth the chase.

For Hobby Headlines, the guys go through a rundown of some of the biggest hobby news released recently and give their initial takes. Preparing For Next Big Card Show and What To Expect In Current Market; Costco Selling Topps Baseball Cards Good for the Hobby?; Overrated/Underrated (Hockey Edition)

EPISODE 169 - Clark and John first open the show talking about the news that some Costco stores are now selling Topps baseball cards again. Is this good for the hobby or are we now entering another junk wax era? They also discuss Tim Duncan's new exclusive multi-year deal to sign basketball cards with Panini America and what it could mean for the value of his new autograph cards.

Moving on to Hobby Headlines, Clark and John discuss the upcoming Sports Card Expo (the largest card show in Canada) in early November and what their strategy is going to the show this year. They also share what they might expect at the expo in light of the current sports card market.

Next, they play a hockey-themed round of Overrated/Underrated focusing on hockey cards such as the 1979 Topps rookie card of Wayne Gretzky, Connor Bedard 1st Draft Pick card in Upper Deck Series 1 and Patrick Roy rookie cards.

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Clark uses a submission from a loyal listener (Josh @inspiredsportscards) as his Pick 1 while John puts up a 1st Bowman non-autograph card vs. a non-Bowman 1st autograph card of the same player with the same value.

Examining Recent High-End Sales of Sports Cards (Worth It?); Halloween Parallels in Topps Update Review; Playing "Would You Rather"

EPISODE 168 - Clark, Hyung and John open the show talking about the new Halloween parallel cards in the recently released 2023 Topps Update baseball blaster boxes. How much do they currently go for on eBay?

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys examine some recent high-end sales of sports cards (especially in this bear market) and give their thoughts on whether the purchase was a good deal or not.

Next, the guys play a round of "Would You Rather" where they are given two hobby-related options on which one they would rather have or do (ie. Would you rather have one on-card autograph card of Julio Rodriguez or a dual autograph card of Rodriguez and Ronald Acuna Jr. but the autographs are on stickers.)

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung asks whether Victor Wembanyama or Connor Bedard is the better rookie superstar investment; John asks which NBA draft class is better – 2019 (Zion Williamson/Ja Morant) vs 2020 (LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards); and Clark puts up a Corbin Carroll Radiating Rookies insert autograph card /23 vs. a Corbin Carroll Bowman Chrome autograph card.

EPISODE 165 - Clark, Hyung and John open the show talking about the MLB post-season action, who they think will win the World Series, and if they were to try to make a short-term flip, which player currently in the playoffs they might invest in and why.

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys give kudos to Fanatics/Topps for its recent marketing efforts to promote the hobby (ie. They also suggest a few more ideas that Fanatics might want to consider to further promote the hobby.

Next, the guys play another round of "Overrated/Underrated" with various hobby-related things such as the Allen & Ginter baseball card set, cut autographs, and Bowman Chrome pearl refractors, to name a few.

What Topps Should Do With The Duplicate Superfractors in the 2023 Bowman Chrome Boxes; Impact of Damian Lillard Card After Trade; Sell High on Travis Kelce Rookie Cards?

EPISODE 163 - Clark, Hyung and John start the show by discussing the impact of Damian Lillard card values after the trade to the Milwaukee Bucks, especially now playing for a contender and alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Next, for Hobby Headlines, the guys do a deeper dive on the duplicate superfractors issue in the 2023 Bowman Chrome baseball card set. They offer some solutions for Topps (this episode was recorded before the buyback program announcement) and how the realization of more duplicate superfractors in the set could impact the value of 2023 Bowman Chrome hobby boxes.

Then for the next segment, they play another round of "Buy/Sell/Hold" on such cards as the Ronald Acuna 1st Bowman Chrome autograph rookie card, the Giannis Antetokounmpo Silver Prizm rookie card, and the Travis Kelce Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card.

Lastly, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Interview With Dappz On Building His Big Hobby Business and Social Media Brand Plus What It's Like to Visit Steve Aoki; How Much is JRod's Superfractor?; Playing Another Round of "Would You Rather"

EPISODE 162 - Clark, Hyung and John open the show talking about high-end collector Shyne's new Julio Rodriguez 1st Bowman Chrome autograph superfractor card, and guessing how much it would go for now if on auction. They also discussed the two Victor Izturis superfractors that were ripped by two separate breakers, and offered a solution as to what should be done with the one extra superfractor.

Next, Clark welcomes Dappz to the podcast who shared how he was able to build his breaking business as well as produce hobby content for his 50,000+ subscribers on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. He also talked about how it was interviewing some famous guests on his channel including Steve Aoki, Geoff Wilson, and Michael Rubin.

Then the guys play another round of "Would You Rather" where Clark gives Hyung and John a couple of choices to decide from (ie. Would you rather open a pack of cards that were all off-centered or cards that all had a dinged corner.)

Finally, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung puts up Ronald Acuna Jr.'s Sapphire rookie card vs. Ronald Acuna Jr.'s Bowman Chrome green shimmer /99; John asks if the better investment is in Hulk Hogan wrestling cards vs. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson cards; and Clark puts up Mookie Betts Blue Refractor Bowman Chrome autograph rookie card vs. Julio Rodriguez Blue Refractor Bowman Chrome autograph rookie card for the same price.

Grading The Graders On Their New Announcements; Three "Outside The Box" Ideas To Make The Hobby More Fun; 3-Month Update on Fantasy Sports Card Draft

EPISODE 159 - Clark, Hyung, and John start the show by giving a 3-month update on their fantasy sports card draft to see who's team/portfolio of players is delivering the best ROI (based on the CardLadder index data). You can catch that draft episode here.

Next for Hobby Headlines, the guys "grade the graders" based on how impressed (or not impressed) they are of some recent announcements and updates by SGC/PSA/BGS. That includes the new $15/card fee by SGC as well as the launch of its new app, and PSA adding another feature to its own app.

Next, Clark introduces a new segment called, "Just A Thought" where he pitches three (some ridiculous) ideas on how to make the hobby better or more fun (ie. dual Topps certified autograph card with an IP auto of the same player?)

Finally, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung puts up Jasson Dominguez rookie autograph card (this is prior to hearing the UCL tear news) vs. Jordan Lawlare rookie autograph for debate. John asks which player would be the better hobby investment: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Trae Young; and Clark puts up the Derek Jeter SP Foil rookie card – a PSA 9 vs BGS 9.5 of the same card.

EPISODE 157 - Clark and Hyung open the show by discussing the departure of Brian Gray as CEO of Leaf Trading Cards, and whether his successor Kevin O'Neill can improve Leaf at all.

Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys discuss the other high-level departure in the hobby – the firing of Jeromy Murray, now former president of Beckett. Both Hyung and Clark then offer ideas and action plans on what they'd do if they took over Beckett (including bringing back the Beckett magazine but a new and improved version!)

Next, Clark introduces a new segment called, "Ask ChatGPT" and he asks the AI tool to name the top 10 most iconic sports cards of all time. Then Hyung tries to guess what ChatGPT came up with. Afterwards, the guys talk about whether they agree with ChatGPT's answers.

Finally, they play their regular "Pick 1" segment where they are given two players or cards and subsequently debate which one they would rather invest in. Hyung puts up the Ronald Acuna Jr. rookie autograph card vs. Mookie Betts rookie autograph card for debate. EPISODE 156 - Clark starts the show discussing the LeBron James and Mookie Betts Topps Now baseball card that was recently released and why it might mean the return of LeBron James Topps autograph cards in the near future.

Then Clark welcomes Mac Gambill (mac_cardcollection on IG) to the podcast. They discussed Mac's approach to hobby content creation (ie. bringing humor and levity to the card space) as well as why he likes to collect both '90s basketball cards and modern soccer cards.

And Mac also participates in Clark's "Rapid Fire Questions" segment, where he gave his thoughts on the future of the hobby in 5 to 10 years as well as ranked some of the recent big hobby news by shock value (from the NFLPA breaking its licensing deal with Panini to Brian Gray leaving as Leaf CEO.)

Finally, Clark hosts another "Quiz Show" segment but asks the podcast listeners to participate. Listeners can DM their answers to the @cardstothemoon Instagram page or email hello@fivecardguys.com

Is There Long-Term Value for NIL Trading Cards?; Thoughts on Panini Vs. Fanatics Lawsuit; Addressing Wander Franco Situation; Playing Quiz Show: Name 21 Athletes With Cards That Sold For Over $1M

EPISODE 154 - Clark, Hyung, and John are back together in this episode, opening the show by discussing their thoughts on the Panini vs. Fanatics anti-trust lawsuit. They also briefly address the sad and unfortunate situation regarding Wander Franco.

Then the guys talk about NIL (name/image/likeness) trading cards after reading a recent Washington Post article titled, "Thanks to NIL, college athletes have trading cards. Their value is hard to quantify."

They dive deeper into NIL's long-term value as well as whether it could dilute the value of a player's rookie card and if a company like Leaf or Panini America (or any other card manufacturer without professional league licenses) could profit from the NIL card market.

Clark then hosts the Quiz Show segment with Hyung and John trying to name all 21 athletes who have at least one card that sold for more than $1 million dollars.

Finally, they end off the show with the regular weekly Pick 1 segment where each of them put up two cards and they debate which one they would invest in. This week includes picking between a Corey Seager rookie autograph card vs. Freddie Freeman rookie autograph card; a $20K Michael Jordan autograph card vs. Shohei Ohtani Kanji autograph card; and Victor Wembanyama 1st Bowman Chrome base autograph card vs. Kevin Durant Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card.

Darrell also talks about the venue in Cleveland where it'll be held next year and what to expect compared to Chicago.
