Teach Us to Pray: Matthew 6:5-13 with Pastor Yami
This week we learn that when we pray, "give us today our daily bread" we are assuming our dependence on God and recognizing that we can do nothing outside of Him. God provides all that we need, but sometimes what we believe we need, God knows will derail us.

Teach Us to Pray: Matthew 6:5-10 with Pastor Yami
This week we are focusing on the phrase "Your Kingdom Come" of the Lord's prayer. Prayer allows us to know ourselves, and to know God, on a more intimate level. When we pray, "Your Kingdom Come" we are submitting ourselves to the will and love of God.

Teach Us to Pray: Matthew 6:5-13 with Pastor Yami
This week we are looking at the second line of the Lord's Prayer: "hallowed by your name." Throughout the Bible, and even today, we know that names are important because they hold meaning. We can "hallow" the name of the Lord by acknowledging His excellence and worth.

Teach Us to Pray: Matthew 6:5-9 with Pastor Yami
This week we are using Jesus's model of how to pray and really zooming in just on the first sentence: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name." This first line of the Lord's prayer can sometimes get overlooked because we have heard it a million times, but when you take the time to think about the implications of God as our Father, it is quite profound.

Prodigal Week 2: "Elder Brother" [Luke 15:11-32 with Pastor Yami]
This week we continue our series on the Parable of the Prodigal Son and take a look at what it means to live like an "elder brother." When things don't go our way it is really easy to fall into the trap of jealousy and indignation but God invites us into His loving arms of grace and love despite our bad behavior.

Prodigal Week 1: "Same Goal, Different Tactics" [Luke 15:11-32 with Pastor Yamikani Kalizang'oma]
This sermon is the first in a two-part mini series on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, one of the most well known parables in the whole of scripture. We're taking a fresh look at this old story, referring heavily to Tim Keller's book Prodigal God (highly recommended reading!) This week we learn that both the younger (prodigal) and older brother really had the same goals, they just had extremely different methods to achieve that goal.

Easter 2020 Sermon: "No Longer Live like He is in the Grave" [John 11:17-27 with Pastor Yamikani Kalizang'oma]
If Christ did not rise from the dead, Pastor Yami echoes the apostle Paul, then our witness, our faith, and our very lives are meaningless and indeed, we Christians are to be pitied for believing a lie. However! The good news is, HE DID. The truth of our faith and of life itself is that Jesus Christ did die on the cross on Good Friday and rise from the dead on Sunday. If he hadn't, we have permission to live however we want; since he has, we must remember and LIVE THAT WAY. Be encouraged, as Martha was, to proclaim that he is the Christ, son of God, who is coming into the world, and that our whole being hangs on him.

Relationship Goals Week 12: "Do Not be Troubled" [Living love in the time of COVID-19 with Pastor Yami and Dr. John Parks]
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have much to think about, as people, as brothers, sisters, wives, mothers, husbands, fathers, colleagues, bosses, teachers, students, as Christians. Join us this week as we take our church service online for the first time with Dr. John Parks giving us an informative overview of the Coronavirus while also keeping it light and making us laugh. Pastor Yami takes up the baton from there and reminds us that in this world we will have trouble, but Christ assures us that he has overcome the world.  About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Now when you get into scripture, scripture has a lot of stuff to say about love. So we are are looking at some few amazing things that God has said in his word in 1 Corinthians chapter 13 of what love is."

Relationship Goals Week 11: "The Already but Not Yet" [1 Corinthians 13:8-12 with Zack Brady]
"There is a tension that exists between the reality of the kingdom of God, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the realities of the broken world we live in," Zack says in his introduction to this message. This tension is the already but not yet of the Kingdom, which is ultimately what the Apostle Paul is talking about in this middle section of 1 Corinthians 13. We live in the promise, given spiritual gifts and love to work in the world while we wait for its fulfillment in the return of Jesus. About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 10: "Hope and Endurance" [1 Corinthians 13:7b with Pastor Yami]
"Figuring out where you get your hope will completely inform how you endure," Pastor Yami explains as he opens the 10th week of Relationship Goals. In this sermon, we conclude our examination of v. 7, with Pastor Yami teaching that ultimately placing our hope in anything other than Jesus will lead us to pain and disappointment. About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 9: "Love bears, believes, hopes, endures..." [1 Corinthians 13:7 with Pastor Humphreys Mkandawire]
Coming to us from our our sister church in Lilongwe as we swapped preachers for a weekend, Pastor Humphreys Mkandawire closes out the "descriptions of love" section of 1 Corinthians 13. He begins by calling us to recognize that the way the Apostle Paul speaks of love turns our search for it on its head: it is not for us to ask "Is that person trustworthy? Can I trust YOU?" but instead for us to ask "Am I trustworthy? Can that person trust me?" Christ, and the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13, call us not to look for these qualities of love in others, but ask ourselves if we are offering these qualities to others.  About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 8: "Love in Relationships" [1 Corinthians 13:6 with Zack Brady]
This week in Relationship Goals, we hear from Zack Brady, who along with being one of our Core Team leaders at Flood Blantyre is on the Young Life staff team in Blantyre ministering specifically to our international high schools. In this sermon, Zack takes us through 1 Corinthians 13:6, "[Love] does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth," and calls us to recognize that this one is not quite as easy as it sounds at first listen. To see fullness of this passage, we visit Genesis, the Gospel of Matthew, and 2 Corinthians, and ultimately are reminded that to rejoice in the truth means to exalt God's truth over all others--even the lies we believe about ourselves.  About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 7: "I Can't Can" [1 Corinthians 13:5pt3 with Pastor Yami]
In this installment of our Relationship Goals series, Pastor Yami tackles the challenging statement that "[Love] is not irritable or resentful." Our reality is that irritation and resentment are constant parts of human life; the question is not "Are you resentful about anything?" but "What are you resentful about right now?" Pastor Yami challenges us to recognize our bitter spots and resentful feelings as the necessary first step to being able to grow through them and love well even when we are confronted with injustice, betrayal, or pain.  About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 5: "God's Way" [1 Corinthians 13:5 with Pastor Yami]
This week, we continue the 1 Corinthians 13 conversation with more on "Love does not insist on its own way." While last week spoke much to what insisting on our own way in love looks like, this week we examine what allowing God's way to reign looks like instead. Love, in God's way, not insisting on its own way, is affectionate, gives itself away, exalts the other, and, we learn to our shock, obedient. Dive in with us.  About the Series: The reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 4: "My Way or Your Way..." [1 Corinthians 13:5 with Pastor Yami]
In this fourth week of our Relationship Goals sermon series, Pastor Yami tackles the next attribute in the 1 Corinthians 13 list: "[love] does not insist on its own way/is not self-seeking." We are challenged that often we are not truly loving, but are individualistic and acting as consumers of love. When we treat love as a commodity, it gets warped from being a godly selfless act into a way of getting our own way. Join us on Sundays at Flood Blantyre at 10am! About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 3: "RudeBoi" [1 Corinthians 13:1-5 with Pastor Yami]
Pastor Yami takes us into the next phrase of 1 Corinthians 13, where we learn love is not arrogant or RUDE.   About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. So our heart and our goal in this series is to just be at a place where we ask the hard questions, we get into the space of trying to understand what is love really like. Relationship Goals Week 2: "Love is... Love is not..." [1 Corinthians 13:4 with Ian Farrimond]
Ian Farrimond takes us through a discussion of patience, kindness, envy, boasting, and pride, and how each of these connect to what it means to truly love. He finishes the sermon by challenging us that to actually live in the way that love demands, would be revolutionary. So, let us be revolutionaries.  About the series: the reality of life is there is no life apart from relationships. Your relationships might be with stuff, not people, but your life is relating itself to STUFF. Relationship Goals Week 1: "Noise" [1 Corinthians 13:1-3 with Pastor Yami]
The first sermon in our new series "Relationship Goals," a deep dive into 1 Corinthians 13. Through this series we are hoping to learn together how to build healthy and better relationships in our day today as we pursue God. In this introductory sermon, Pastor Yami examines three initial statements from the Apostle Paul that end in "....If I have not love, I have nothing." From this passage. he challenges us to recognize how we often determine our or another person's value on how gifted they are--how well they speak, what good they can do, how much they give, what they have surrendered--and brings us back to God's true value: our Love.

Highs and Lows: Joshua 5:1-12 with Pastor Yami
In Week 6 of our Highs and Lows series, the Lord has been good and the Israelites have crossed the Jordan on dry ground. Now, this new generation must prepare to enter the Promised Land with a renewal of the covenant and a period of waiting as they heal from fresh circumcision. Pastor Yamikani Kalizang'oma walks us through the importance of Israel bearing the mark of the covenant and challenges us to examine our own feelings about waiting. Can we trust God's goodness no matter what he asks us to do or how long he makes us wait?

Highs and Lows: Joshua 3-4 with Ian Farrimond
In week 5 of our Highs and Lows Series, Ian Farrimond returns to the pulpit to teach us the meaning of that strange line in "Come Thou Fount," "here I raise my ebenezer." The Ebenezer stone was designed to help the Israelites remember what God had done for them and to be ready to speak those memories aloud to the next generation who were not there to see it. What challenge is God inviting you to face? Are you ready to trust that if he is inviting you to go, he will provide a way for you to succeed and afterward raise your own ebenezer?

Highs and Lows: Joshua 1:10-18 with Pastor Yamikani Kalizang'oma
Week 3 of Highs and Lows! Herein, Pastor Yami preaches on the importance of PREPARATION by way of Joshua's commands to the Israelites as they began to prepare to cross the Jordan River and enter battle for Canaan. The preaching may be rooted in an ancient story, but the wisdom Pastor Yami teaches is completely applicable today. Some highlights include: the need to prepare mentally, spiritually, and physically; the importance of preparing with resources, learning, time, and rest; and how we often forget to allow others time to respond and catch-up with what we have been preparing for.
