Episode 15: Budget 2023: Short Term Fixes Without Targeting Long Term Systemic Issues?

The FLY Podcast returns better than ever - with guests from YPolitics (Ku Jie Yee and Elizabeth Lajawai) and an analyst from EMIR Research (Amanda Yeo) joining the FLY team to talk all about Budget 2023. You may be thinking what’s the point given that an election is underway and it has to be retabled, but we’d argue: we can still discuss this a *potential* government policy. Furthermore our conversation flowed into discussing the larger issues Malaysia faces. Interested in checking it out? Well in the episode we talk about these issues;

Dive deep into the Sabahan Economy and the systemic issues it faces (06:10)

Whether the spending is enough to ‘woo’ voters (12:06)

Will these East Malaysian projects be enough to solve the issues (16:40)

Budget 2023 and it’s focus on Women (20:15)

Budget 2023 and it’s focus on Youths (29:11)

Budget 2023 and the Development Expenditure and ‘Mega Projects’ (38:17)

Episode 14: Insights from one of Malaysia’s few “boutique” asset managers (Tradeview)

Episode 14: Insights from one of Malaysia’s few “boutique” asset managers (Tradeview)

On this month’s edition of the FLYouths Podcast, we welcome Mr Ng Zhu Hann the CEO of Tradeview Capital Bhd, a boutique asset management firm which as of May 9th, has RM50 Million in assets under management.

His pathway to become an asset manager, was an unorthodox one to say the least, as a lawyer by trade. His experience includes being called to the Malaysian and Singaporean bar, working in a Fortune 500 company and China’s largest property developer.

When it comes to the world of investing, his pen name “Tradeview” is one Malaysian investors may be familiar with as he’s been writing in the field of economics, business and investing since 2013. In 2021, he published a book “Once Upon a Time in Bursa” which was awarded “Best in Business Readings” by MPH.

Our hour long discussion, encompasses and covers a multitude of things from; How did he manage to break into finance as a lawyer, insights for students on saving and investment and advice for youths as we venture into a world with concerning economic conditions.

Swipe through our slides to see some of the insights that he shares during our podcast (which hopefully will entice you to check out the full show!)
