Social comparison sometimes can be positive, and inspire us to enhance our skills and capabilities, set higher standards for ourselves, and emulate positive habits.
“Social comparison can motivate people to improve, but it can also promote judgmental, biased, and overly competitive or superior attitudes” according to Psychology Today.
It can also set unrealistic standards, especially on social media, because we often only present the best versions of our lives.
Constant exposure to images and accomplishments can distort one's sense of reality, and lead to feelings of jealousy or unworthiness.
Social comparison can breed unhealthy levels of competition and instead of fostering cooperation, it may encourage individuals to prioritize their own success at the expense of others.

When we try to dictate how someone else should behave, we undermine their individuality, which can create resentment.
Control freaks many times use the words “should” or “shouldn’t” and have unrealistic expectations, believing that they can shape someone else's actions or beliefs according to their own preferences.
