Ladies of Golf: Hally Leadbetter, broadcaster, host, producer and content creator
This week we welcome the absolutely incredible Hally Leadbetter, who is a broadcaster, host, producer and social media content creator. To take it all the way back, Hally played junior golf at a high level, ultimately earning a scholarship to the University of Arkansas. Two years in, she transferred to Rollins College where she ranked No. 10 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and led her team to winning the 2016 NCAA DII Championship. Post graduation, Hally played professional golf, but ultimately decided to pair her passion for golf with her new-found interest in media. In 2017, she started working in social media for Golf Digest and, subsequently, the PGA TOUR as a digital producer and host. In 2019, she returned to Golf Digest to head up their social content team. And most recently, Hally has launched a podcast with Michelle Wie West called Golf, Mostly! Abby and Hally discuss the trajectory of Hally's career, expanding beyond golf and manifesting her passions into reality. Ladies of Golf: Elyssa Nastalski, Co-Founder of Dogwood Country Club on the entrepreneurial spirit
This week we welcome Elyssa Nastalski, co-founder of Dogwood Country Club, Raleigh’s first urban country club which is an indoor golf facility. Prior to launching Dogwood, Elyssa worked for a golf startup leading their marketing efforts and working her way into becoming a company partner. She recently oversaw the development of Dogwood Country Club's new location, just north of downtown Raleigh. Elyssa shares the journey that brought her and her husband to launching Dogwood in 2018, from the original concept to adding staff and designing their dream space. Ladies of Golf: Beth Wu, University of Florida Women's Golf Assistant Coach. Pivoting for your passion.
This week on Ladies of Golf, Abby is joined by Beth Wu, who is assistant coach of the University of Florida women’s golf team. She began her coaching career after spending the last three years on the Epson Tour. She posted four top-10 finishes on the LPGA feeder tour and in 2021 she finished 11th on the Epson Tour money list. Highlights of Beth’s amateur golf career include: medaling at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur, being ranked as the #1 junior when joining the UCLA team in 2015, reaching the semifinals of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur, being a member of the 2016 U.S. Curtis Cup team, winning twice while at UCLA, and earning many awards like All-American, All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and more. Ladies of Golf: Kellie Valentine, Adaptive Golfer
Welcome back to the Ladies of Golf podcast! This week we're thrilled to introduce you to Kellie Valentine. Kellie and Abby first met while playing golf together during the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship media day. The U.S. Adaptive Open is a new national championship that will showcase the world’s best golfers with disabilities this July at Pinehurst No. 6. The field will include 96 players, with at least five male players and two female players per impairment category. Those categories are: Arm Impairment Leg Impairment Multiple Limb Amputee Vision Impairment Intellectual Impairment Neurological Impairment Seated Players Short Stature Kellie became an amputee following an automobile accident that resulted in the loss of her right arm above the elbow in 1993. It was so inspiring to play golf with her and we hope to watch her compete this July. Enjoy our conversation.

So to kick off March Madness … oh you didn’t know we’re a basketball podcast now? Just kidding, sort of. Our latest Ladies of Golf feature is Lauren Niemiera, a LPGA Level 1 certified golf instructor at Five Iron Golf Chicago AND a basketball referee for the G League and NCAA Women's College Division I conference. Badass right? Lauren's story is very cool. She played division 1 basketball and golf and has continued to balance her life between the two sports. We talked about her career path, working at Five Iron Golf, becoming a golf instructor, being a female in two male dominated industries and earning respect. Welcome back to the Fore the Ladies podcast! Today we have Sophia Schubert as our next Ladies of Golf feature. Sophia is one of this year’s Symetra Tour graduates and will be a rookie on the LPGA Tour for the 2022 season. The Symetra Tour acts a feeder tour for the LPGA, a minor league if you will, and the top 10 players on the Race for the Card money list have earned LPGA cards for next season. Sophia was number four on that list after notching her first victory on the Symetra Tour and nine top 10 finishes in the 2021 season. Sophia also had an incredible amateur career, winning the 2017 U.S. Amateur and college tournaments while competing for Auburn and Texas. Ladies of Golf: Hilary Cronheim, Director, USGA Golf Museum and Library
We’re back after a few weeks away with another Ladies of Golf episode! It’s been a busy month hosting our first golf getaway with Pinehurst Resort and planning clinics for the remainder of 2021. As many of you know, Fore the Ladies is a passion project of mine. My full-time job is at the United States Golf Association, and for this episode, I welcomed a coworker! Hilary Cronheim is Director of the USGA Golf Museum and Library, where she oversees the execution of the museum’s strategic initiatives. What does that include? Well everything from leveraging digital media, enhancing access to research collections, and reinforcing its role as the world’s leading center for golf scholarship. Hilary has worked in some of the nation’s leading museums, such as the Art Institute of Chicago and the Frick Collection in New York City. With all of this experience, she shared with us how she came upon the USGA and its museum as well as why she wanted to work there. We also talk about the storied history of women caring for and communicating golf history. For example, the Museum’s first curator, Janet Seagle, led the Museum from 1963 to 1989 and women have been in leading roles ever since. In celebration of Giving Tuesday, the FTL pod shines light on non-profit organizations making golf a better sport. After Abby shares some of her favorites, she welcomes Symetra Tour player Emmy Martin to the podcast to talk about her amazing organization: Played with Heart. Played with Heart equips the next generation of female golfers with the essentials needed to play the game. Emmy and Played with Heart collect donations across the country and package them up to give to participants of LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. I'll let her tell the rest of the story, but we were so inspired by her acts of kindness and we hope you are too.

Golf 101: WTF is Golf Slang? with Roger Steele
For our third lesson, we asked Roger Steele to be our instructor and answer, 'WTF is Golf Slang?' We covered everything from phrases people use on the golf course to terms like 'mulligan,' 'breakfast ball,' 'knockdown,' 'dew sweeping,' 'mashed potatoes,' 'puuuure' and so much more. Take notes y'all and you'll be ready for your next round. Note: Abby's fiance interrupts the pod near the end of the pod and laughter ensues. We just didn't feel like removing it.

Ladies of Golf: Sophia Popov, professional golfer and major champion
This week we welcomed 2020 AIG Women’s British Open champion Sophia Popov! Sophia won her first LPGA and major title this August, and now sits at 27th in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings. She has an incredible story to share, from growing up in Germany to playing golf at USC, as well as dabbling in commentating for the German Solheim Cup broadcast. This week on the Fore the Ladies podcast we welcomed our first professional golfer! The incredible Mel Reid joined us for a fun conversation about her start with the game, how she hopes to inspire others and use her voice. Ladies of Golf welcomed Taylor Stern of the Dallas Cowboys Digital Media team to talk about her experiences with golf. Taylor started playing the game 2018 after helping Cowboys player Dak Prescott acquire a set of clubs. Ladies of Golf: Mackenzie Mack, Associate Exec. Director at The First Tee of Tennessee in Memphis
Mackenzie Mack began her golf journey with The First Tee and she has come full circle, bringing the game to the next generation in her role as the Associative Executive Director of The First Tee of Tennessee in Memphis. Mackenzie has a storied history with golf. Her first time on a golf course was in a competition where she went home with hardware. She has faced challenges in regards to her race, but always persevered, even becoming the first black woman to compete as a member of Indiana State University's golf team. Her Today, Mackenzie is a LPGA Professional who loves playing and competing, and was honored as the LPGA National Junior Golf Leader of the Year in 2018. In our conversation for Ladies of Golf, we discuss a variety of topics including Mackenzie's use of the Rules of Golf at a young age and how she shares that knowledge with her students today. Enjoy!
