For Narnia and For Aslan
By Bethy and Katie
For Narnia and For Aslan Dec 21, 2022
The Most Exciting Moment (V.D.T. Chapter 14)
With chapter 14 Bethy and Katie decide Reep is probably the main character. Also, we meet some heavenly birds, Isaiah 6:1-7 is deeply discussed, and we practice fourfold reading.
The beginning of The End (V.D.T. Chapter 13)
With chapter 13 we ask havruta questions, notice a shift in tone as well as Reep being especially honored, and discuss the big questions with Revelation 19:6-9.
Discrepancies and Dreams (V.D.T. Chapter 12)
With chapter 12 we discover some surprising differences between our versions of the book, discuss Reep's pride, read Psalm 3, and practice PaRDaS.
A Voyage Announcement
Bethy is moving across the country! It is very exciting, but she is so busy that we need to slow our episodes to every other week instead of once a week. We'll keep this pace up for the rest of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and then get back to you about our plans. Thanks for understanding!
I Call All Times Soon (V.D.T. Chapter 11)
Chapter 11 brings up some abstract conversation as we try to visualize time, talk about two ways we tend to view God, and just enjoy a sweet chapter. We also practice Ignatian spirituality and read Revelation 22:12-13.
I've Been Here All The Time (V.D.T. Chapter 10)
With chapter 10 we dive into temptation, contentment, bravery, and an inconsistency that we both spotted in the text. We also read Psalm 131 and try out a reader's theater.
Email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com and see you next week!
Uglified and Invisible (V.D.T. Chapter 9)
Katie and Bethy dive into the pros and cons of invisibility, debate how old Reep is, and decide that great minds don't actually think alike. They also read Psalm 27:11-14 and practice four-fold reading.
Cultivate God Confidence (V.D.T Chapter 8)
With chapter 8 we focus more on Lucy than usual, gush about how much we love havruta, discuss short term missions, and read 1st Corinthians 10:11-13 twice.
Healing Water (V.D.T. Chapter 7)
We have a guest this week! We loved talking with Erin Schulz about Eustace and how his cure begins. Together we discuss what it means to be known, Edmund's forgiveness, foot washing with John 13:1-17, and how sometimes only God and go deep enough. We also practice PaRDaS.
Feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com and thanks again to Erin for joining us!
A Dragonish Surprise (V.D.T. Chapter 6)
In chapter 6 Eustace is transformed both inside and out and with this context in mind Katie and Bethy discuss his appalling loneliness, the valiant Reep, and Lucy's deep kindness. We also take a look at Psalm 115:1-11 and try out a reader's theater.
Feel free to join the conversation by emailing us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
All about Eustace (V.D.T. Chapter 5)
With chapter 5 of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Katie and Bethy compare the storm in this chapter to one found in scripture, see some growth in Eustace (but not much), practice Ignatian Spirituality, and take a look at Mark 4:35-41.
No interviews except between 9 and 10 PM on second Saturdays (VDT Chapter 4)
Katie and Bethy discuss Caspian's clear-eyed confidence, the plethora of biblical references this chapter holds, and the complications of morality. They also practice fourfold reading and take a look at Isaiah 61:1-3.
To join in our conversation please email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
Speed Painters and Possible Histories (V.D.T. Chapter 3)
With chapter 3 of The Voyage of The Dawn Treader, Bethy and Katie discuss the horrific slave trade that is found in the Lone Islands, discuss the often quoted but seldom fully examined Jeremiah 29, and practice one of our best havrutas ever.
Come Into The Sun (V.D.T. Chapter 2)
With chapter 2 of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader we discuss Eustace's delusions, pacifism, and the ways Caspian has grown. We also read the Message version of Proverbs 10:1-11, and practice PaRDaS.
Have Some Ocean (V.D.T. Chapter 1)

Season 4 Bloopers!
Stumbling over words, deciding mid-recording what we should talk about, both of this season's guests featured (thanks again, Kevin and Jenn!) - this blooper reel has it all! More than anything it will remind us that we are grateful for editing. Enjoy!
Well, we have had a time! (Final Thoughts on Prince Caspian)
As we take one last look at Prince Caspian as a whole, we wonder if it is all about preserving old ways, or rebirth, and we discuss Peter's logic and Edmund's leadership. We also read Deut. 26:1-11 and Jer. 31:1-4 with the themes of story, war, dance, and trees in mind, and practice florilegia. Bethy's main takeaway is the power of memory and Katie's is the reminder that things don't have to go the expected way.
Thank you so much for joining us in our exploration of Prince Caspian! We loved it and can't wait to get started with The Voyage of The Dawn Treader on August 24th!
Join in our conversation by emailing us or sending a voice memo to fornarniapodcast@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!
Ah! You have conquered me. (P.C. Chapter 15)
With the final chapter of Prince Caspian, Katie and Bethy wonder how it can be that God and the world are actually affected by prayer, discuss Reepicheep's new tail and the taste of tree chocolate vs. gravel, read Luke 14:11, and practice florilegia.
Katie's microphone is on the fritz - sorry about that! We'll be getting her a new one for the coming season.
Loose My Chains (P.C. Chapter 14)
This two-part chapter sends Bethy and Katie all directions in their conversation - from heads rolling away from Peter's sword, to imposter syndrome, to women and men being honored in such different ways, to a river in chains! They also read a section of Isaiah 55 and practice a virtually bridge-free PaRDaS.
We'd love to hear from you! Our email address is fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
No One Ever Laughed at a Centaur (P.C. Chapter 13)
Katie and Bethy have way too much fun with chapter 13's pedantic posturing and attempt to mimic it as a sacred practice. We also talk about Narnia's calendar, thank you notes, and Lewis' surprising theme of laughter at the expense of others while also taking a look at 1st Timothy 4:12.
Cold Bear Meat and an Onion for Breakfast (P.C. Chapter 12)
With Chapter 12 of Prince Caspian Katie and Bethy discuss how Lewis writes of battles, how very different this chapter is compared to the rest of the series, and how Bethy has packing anxiety. They also dive into the fruits of the spirit from Galatians 5:19-26 and practice Ignatian Spirituality.
Heypresto! (P.C. Chapter 11)
We return to Prince Caspian and our regular episodes this week! Katie and Bethy are thrilled to be recording together again and with chapter 11 they discuss wine, weddings, what Susan's fears could be, and the meaning behind gift giving. They also read John 2:1-11, and practice Lectio.
Katie's Return! The Fairy Flea
With Bethy out sick we weren't able to return to Prince Caspian quite yet, but we are so excited to do so starting next week. Until then, Katie is back and she brings with her a follow up poem about the thieving fairy!
Fairies and Love
As we wrap up our little season of minisodes Bethy reads one more poem as well as a C.S. Lewis quote on love.
Feel free to email us a fornarniapodcast@gmail.com
Justice for Susan!
Spoiler alert!!! This episode is all about Susan Pevensie - the wonderful, the misunderstood, the strong, the gentle. However, we do chat about the last book of the series quite a bit, so please skip ahead in those parts of the conversation if you've never read it. With Jenn Rudsit, a passionate Susan Pevensie advocate, there is discussion on the ways Lewis and society teach us to look down on femininity, what we can learn from Susan, and we even have some lipstick recommendations.
Cultivating Childlike Faith - A Narnia Interview With Dr. Kevin Mack
What would the long-term repercussions of being raised like Caspian be? What's going on psychologically with the Pevensies when they flit in and out of our world and Narnia? How do we cultivate childlike faith in a world that is calling us to do more and more? Which character does this psychologist connect with most in the series? These questions and more are discussed with PHD Kevin Mack!
Messages from the Narnians
This week we have two messages - one from Chris and one from Bethy's mom!
To send us your own message, feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
Explanations and a Poem
We are entering wedding season and therefore minisode season too! Bethy explains what the plan is for the next two months and then reads a poem she wrote this week.
Here's the link to Katie's wedding registry if you'd like to send a gift her way as she starts her marriage with Manoj! (To be very clear, you are loved, but this is NOT an invitation to the wedding, just an invitation to support them with their registry... Thanks for understanding!)

Now You Are A Lioness (P.C. Chapter 10)
Katie and Bethy discuss trees dancing as well as some difficulty in a ballroom dance class, how awesome Lucy's time with Aslan is (He is just the BEST!), how much bravery it takes to relay an unwelcome message, and the beautiful details in chapter 10 of Lewis' Prince Caspian. We also compare this chapter with 1 Sam. 3:1-11 and practice Florilegia.

Only Lucy (P.C. Chapter 9)
With chapter 9 Bethy and Katie dive into injustice, trusting our plans verses trusting God's plans, practice PaRDaS, discuss dieting, and read Proverbs 3:5-6.
What a Champ (P.C. Chapter 8)
Bethy and Katie memorize an epic Edmund moment, discuss what kind of ruddy good looks the Bible may be referring to, and Bethy works on choosing her theme for the coming year of life. They also check out 1 Samuel 16.
Shoot us an email at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com - we'd love to hear from you!
A Very Sad Giant (P.C. Chapter 7)
With Prince Caspian Chapter 7 we explore the idea of Caspian being ready for his leadership role or not, question if Bethy is a fawn, discuss Lewis' opinion of war, and help Katie with some financial questions. We also read Exodus 17:15-16 and practice Ignatian Spirituality.
Thank you Danny Parker for our lovely logo and Salt of the Sound for our exquisite music!
Mine to Watch, Yours to Remember (P.C. Chapter 6)
With chapter 6 we decide which Narnians we would want to meet, ask where Aslan is in all of this, and Katie wishes for a centaur to guide her through confusing times. We also practice lectio divina and read Matthew 16:1-4.
A Dwarf and Badger Bachelor Pad (P.C. Chapter 5)
With Chapter 5 of Prince Caspian we discuss finding time with God, compare Caspian to Saul, have a bone to pick, and Katie has an exciting announcement! We also take a look at Acts 9:26-28 and practice Florilegia.
Bread, History, and Hard Questions (P.C. Chapter 4)
We're back to our normal recordings and we are thrilled!! Along with Deut. 6:20-25, and PaRDaS, Katie and Bethy take a look at Prince Caspian chapter 4, talk about the importance of remembering history and asking questions while expecting answers. We also discuss how different the flavor of this book is and what a shining example we see in Caspian.
You Don't Feel Like Ghosts (P.C. Chapter 3)
With Prince Caspian chapter 3 we have our final blast from the past episode and in it we talk through uncertainty verses confidence in faith, finding joy even in the midst of that uncertainty, and Katie teaches some amazing tricks for memorization. We also take a look at Hebrews 10:32-37.
Feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com and see you next week as we return to present time!
Great Scott! (P.C. Chapter 2)
Once again we're coming at you with a recording from the olden days! With Prince Caspian chapter 2, Katie and Bethy discuss how we come to believe things, the importance of allowing for a change of opinion, and Edmund's love of food. We also practice Ignatian Spirituality and take a look at John 20:24-31.
Where are we? When are we? (P.C. Chapter 1)
Welcome to season 4 of For Narnia and For Aslan! With this first chapter of Prince Caspian, we decided to take a trip down memory lane by playing our very first recording attempt ever! Katie and Bethy try out podcasting for the first time with a discussion about discomfort, adventure, growth, and new experiences. As this is our first ever recording, Bethy's sound is not quite right, we cut out a couple times, and there are editing mistakes... to say the least. There's not even music! However, we thought you might like to hear our first attempt anyway. It feels a little like stepping back in time. Enjoy!
Season 4 Announcements!
Katie and Bethy here to let you know what's ahead in Season 4 of For Narnia and For Aslan! The biggest one is about the first three episodes of the season. See you when we kick off on January 19th and until then, feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com!
The Narnian's Podcasts... Possibly
In this minisode we discuss what it would be like if Narnia characters made podcasts - Edmund would want to talk about social justice. Polly's would probably be the best. As for Mrs. Beaver, well you'll have to listen and find out!
Season 4 begins on January 19th!
Season 3 Bloopers!
There's nothing like listening to bloopers to make you realize how thankful you are for editing! During these Bethy can't remember lyrics, Katie's phone cuts out, and there are many struggles with mispronunciations. It's been a fun season and we're looking forward to the next!
The Hour Has Struck! (Final Thoughts on The Horse and His Boy)
Ram and Ramekin (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 15)
You'll like them... they're not like me. (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 14)
Bethy and Katie talk through Bree needing 5 minutes, how great it is to finally refer to Corin as Shasta's brother - I mean, Cor's brother, and break down Bethy's fear that maybe nothing will come of her hard work. They also do a readers theater and bring 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 into the conversation.
What Matters Most (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 13)
Katie and Bethy discuss how the portrayal of war is different in this book compared to the others, how nice it is that Lewis has the freedom to write whatever he wants, and wonder how old Edmund is in this story. They also practice florilegia and read Matthew 23:5-12.
You Will Find Rest and Toast and Butter (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 12)
With chapter 12 we compare Shasta's and Corin's characters, enjoy dwarf names, and celebrate Shasta's cup running over (finally!). We also practice Ignatian Spirituality and take a look at Matthew 11:28-30.

I Was The Lion (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 11)

Where is the King? (T.H.&H.B. Chapter 10)
We forgot to read out the chapter number and title with this episode. Oops! This, as we are sure you know, is chapter 10, The Hermit of the Southern March. With this chapter Bethy and Katie discuss Shasta's heroism, and how Bethy both would like to grow up to be the Hermit and struggles to decide between a big, selfless life and a small, selfish life. We read Hebrews 11:8-16 and practice havruta as well.
