Joker Review
Join us this week as we talk about a disturbing movie called JOKER.

Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker"

Interview: Dead Legends Creators
Written by James Maddox, Art by Gavin Smith, Letters by Ryan Ferrier, Cover by Leo Colapietro.
"A widow seeking revenge. A champion hellbent on losing. A world-class assassin second-guessing her contract. The Dead Legends tournament contains a long history of pitting the best fighters in the world against one another. But this year, these combatants bend the rules and place the future of the tournament in jeopardy. This is the martial arts throwback series that hits harder than a kick to the skull, where alliances are made, bonds are broken, and fighters lose their lives."

The first comic he remembers buying was Batman #316 (Oct. 1979). Comic strips he enjoyed included Peanuts and Doonesbury.
He became a regular, weekly comic reader around the time that the 1985–86 DC Comics storyline "Crisis on Infinite Earths" ended, though he found that storyline too bizarre and impenetrable to a new reader; as a result, he gravitated toward Marvel Comics, finding Spider-Man to be his favorite, along with other books such as Star Wars and G.I. Joe.
1990’s
In the late 1990s Fraction worked as an employee at the Charlotte, North Carolina-based comics retailer Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, and participated on the Warren Ellis Forums under the username "Matt Fraction"
2000’s
He became known early in his career for his creator-owned work on The Five Fists of Science (2006) and Casanova, before taking on a number of assignments for Marvel Comics
2006: Fraction teamed with Ed Brubaker for a run on Marvel's The Immortal Iron Fist.
The pair re-teamed on Uncanny X-Men for a short time, after which Fraction wrote the series solo until leaving it in 2011
He wrote The Mighty Thor and The Invincible Iron Man, the latter of which led to his consulting work on the set of the film Iron Man 2 (2010) and writing the Iron Man 2 video game that tied into that film sequel
2010’s
In 2011 Fraction wrote the Fear Itself limited series, which was the central part of the crossover storyline of the same name.
In December 2011 he revived the series The Defenders with artist Terry Dodson
August 2012 he started a new Hawkeye series with David Aja
part of Marvel NOW!, Fantastic Four was relaunched in November 2012 with the creative team of Fraction and artist Mark Bagley
spinoff series FF was produced by Fraction and artist Mike Allred
February 2013, he was named on IGN's list of "The Best Tweeters in Comics", which described him as "the premier comics Twitter personality.
2013, Fraction and Chip Zdarsky co-created the Sex Criminals series for Image Comics
He and Christian Ward created the ODY-C series in 2014, a science-fiction retelling of the Odyssey with the characters' genders changed to women.

Book Club: Astonishing X-Men - Gifted
Issues 1-6 Gifted
"The first story arc focused on the introduction of several key characters and their involvement on the team. Whedon introduced a "mutant cure" designed by Indian Benetech scientist Dr. Kavita Rao, who was secretly sponsored by warrior alien Ord. The prospect of "real" humanity arouses the interest of a heavily mutated Beast, who visits Rao only to discover that the drug is the product of illegal human experimentation on an unknown victim. The X-Men raid Benetech and reunite with Colossus. With Colossus's help, the team takes down Ord, but not before it's revealed that a mutant (most likely an X-Man) would destroy Ord's home planet, the Breakworld, within the next three years."

Dark Phoenix Review
"This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own."

Creator Focus: Dan Jurgens
This Week we talk about Dan Jurgens for Creator Focus.
We apologize for the sick voices, we tried.
Dan Jurgens: Penciller, inker, writer
Born: June 27, 1959 (age 59)
Ortonville, Minnesota, U.S
Notable Works
Action Comics
Batman Beyond
Booster Gold
Captain America
Superman
Tangent Comics
Thor
Warlord
• After graduating from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1981, Jurgens' first professional comic work was for DC Comics on The Warlord #63 (Nov. 1982)
In 1984, Jurgens was the artist for the Sun Devils
Sun Devils is the title of a science fiction "space opera" comic book series. The series followed a group of cosmic adventurers led by Rik Sunn, Additional cast members included Anomie Zitar, an apparent feline-human hybrid (fittingly, the team's resident "sex kitten"); a smuggler-pilot named Scyla, a tall, powerful woman whose personality borrowed heavily from Han Solo Three clones, genetically-raised as starship repairmen, who had no name and were referred to only as "One", "Two" and "Three".
In 1985, Jurgens created the character Booster Gold, who became a member of the Justice League
Jurgens began working full-time on the Superman character when he took over the writing/pencilling of the monthly The Adventures of Superman.
During his run on Superman, Jurgens created two major villains, Doomsday and the Cyborg Superman.
In January 1996, Jurgens was writer and penciller of the new Spider-Man series, The Sensational Spider-Man, at Marvel Comics.
• In November 2002, he wrote and penciled the four-issue weekly miniseries Superman: Day of Doom (Jan. 2003), which marked the 10 year anniversary of "The Death of Superman" story line from 1992
