By FPL Lounge

Welcome to the FPL Lounge. Sit back and relax whilst listening to Andy and Chris discuss the week's FPL happenings. With Andy's blend of stats and football knowledge (which saw him finish in the top 5k overall last season) and Chris' unique, perhaps more neutral view on FPL, you might just pick up a few helpful tips along the way too (although don't hold us to that!). Every good lounge should be relaxing and so the FPL Lounge aims to be detailed enough that its helpful for your mini league position, without taking things too seriously.

S4E37: Gameweek 36 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW36 Preview!

The potential for rolling a transfer looms large over this gameweek but there are still plenty of appealing options for your FPL teams.

The radar looks similar to last week's with great fixtures and doubles still on the horizon for the league's oil rich clubs. Some movement though with players going up, some going off and some newly appearing.

The eyes to next week's double are also wide with the anyone else list slightly longer than usual...

That upcoming double also impacting the tide - its very still and clam out there. Nothing to swim against. So the Honey Traps are back out and they make for some useful consequences for FPL.

Captaincy looks to be open to a few options this week with ranks swings certainly possible and big returns expected for more than one key player. The lads discuss these pros and cons before finishing with what could be a crucial game of Who The Heck Is Stat?!

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW35 Preview!

A double gameweek for two teams gives a focus to this week's pod, although with many managers on Wildcard, the lads run through a few permutations including how seriously to take this DGW35 and when the best time is to play your bench boost.

The radar has had a facelift, with plenty of new names to discuss, including a mercurial young Englishman and a super Swede on the mid-range, and a whole host of fringe picks to get you wildcard-ready. Andy even says a few positive things about United players.

Honey trap this week suffers from a bit of groupthink, but there's still some takeaways for managers to use, before they run the rule of the big DGW captain shouts and finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E35: Gameweek 34 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our DGW34 Preview!

Big double gameweek for seven teams (and a blank for one) means divergent strategies - including in the Lounge! - so the lads run through some thoughts about how to tackle the DGW34 depending on what chips you've left. There's also a focus on European rotation.

The radar has a familiar feel to last week, but with some upgrades for *some* Crystal Palace assets, and the inclusion on the radar for the most expensive defender in the game. Speaking of, they run the rule over Liverpool assets, with a certain attacker notable by his absence... although long-time listeners won't be surprised.

Hold your horses AGAIN and don your swimming trunks AGAIN - there's ANOTHER tide to swim against! This player is no favourite of the Lounge, but even so, the most transferred player in not doubling this week? Not for this podcast.

Captaincy seems a toss up between two assets, neither of whom look great on the eye at the moment. They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E34: Gameweek 33 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW33 Preview!

The key FPL news kicks us off and it focuses on this GW being in a European sandwich.

Like last week, the radar is influenced by the chips you may or may not have left, and by a large DGW looming next week. A couple of new additions make their way on including a previously much maligned FPL asset with some very interesting recent stats. Some interesting returns from injury for big players has also caught the lads' eyes.

Hold your horses and don your swimming trunks - there's actually a tide to swim against! And its a potentially risky one, but the lads explain why they think transferring in one of the league's best players could be an error.

Captaincy seems close this week, with the usual suspects seeming like the best shouts - but which one?! They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E33: Gameweek 32 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW32 Preview!

A shorter pod than usual this week due to work commitments, but a GW32 preview is here all the same, with all the key info you'll need before the deadline.

The lads start with some rotation news from GW31, with several FPL big-hitters either rested to nursing minor injuries.

The GW32 radar includes some new additions, including a budget flying defender, and an upgrade from last week's fringe for a Liverpool midfielder. There are also two players, perhaps a bit reactionary, that will fit nicely into teams FHing in DGW34. The fringe itself has a similar feel to last GW.

The lads save some time by moving straight to captaincy, where it feels a pretty evenly matched field, with Salah, Haaland and Cole Palmer all very spicy options to be considering for the armband this GW. Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW31 Preview!

Like buses, you wait aged for one pod and then two come along in quick succession! It's a short turnaround to GW31 but there's plenty of FPL news - most of it injury related - and with little time for press conferences before the deadline, some managers may feel underprepared.

The lads add some fresh blood to the radar though, with another addition to the centre, a rare foray into a double-up defence in the mid-range, and some Liverpool assets on the fringe.

Little to swim against again this week so the lads try to catch each other in their honey traps following a successful trap last week, before a captaincy discussion that is once again, not focused on the machine that is Erling Haaland.

They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E31: Gameweek 30 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our GW30 Preview!

It's been a while, due to various illness and work commitments, but the lads are back, and they start by looking ahead to the DGW announcements and think about upcoming chip strategies. they also have a look at injury news after the international break, and also discuss FPL's new Fantasy Challenge game.

The radar is brand new, and as strategy-agnostic as they can make it, with TWO players on the centre of the radar - although they'll need no introduction to FPL players. There are budget teammates on the mid-range, and a cheeky cheap goalkeeper to target on the fringe.

Little to swim against this week so the lads try to catch each other in their honey traps, before a captaincy discussion that assesses the merits of four players, three with an appealing home fixture, and the other one is Haaland.

They end, as ever, with captaincy and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E30: Gameweek 26 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our BGW26 Preview!

It's a blank gameweek for 4 teams, with some popular assets missing, so the lads run through those BGW fixtures teams and give an update on the FPL calendar over the next few GWs, with some doubles and a large blank on the horizon.

The radar has the blanks and doubles in mind, with a Bournemouth player on the mid-range despite a tough fixture this week, while the fringe contains a first mention for a Manchester United player, and some budget midfielders that could be useful through the next few GWs.

Little to swim against again this week so the lads try to catch each other in their honey traps, before a captaincy discussion that has an all-too familiar feel.

They end, as ever, with captaincy and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our DG25 Preview!

It's a double gameweek for 4 teams, including two of FPL's big-hitters, so the lads run through those DGW fixtures and give an update on Man City's strong side in European competition and some injury news for players on a double.

The radar has a very familiar feel to GW24, with managers wise to target the double with assets with great underlying numbers and high upside this GW.

Little to swim against this week so the lads try to catch each other in their honey traps, before a captaincy discussion including whether to play the Triple Captain chip this GW, and a look ahead to other potential Man City and Liverpool DGWs later in the campaign.

They end, as ever, with captaincy and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E28: Gameweek 24 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for a slightly later GW24 Preview (apologies - there was illness in the lounge!)
Plenty of updates in the FPL world, including two new doubles, some updates on BGW29 and therefore plenty of chat about chip strategy. The lads unpack and dissect it all to keep you up to date.
The radar reflects the changes to the FPL schedule, with DGW25 players featuring prominently, with also a nod to DGW28.
The lads swim against the tide this week with a fairly high-owned player being transferred out en masse, despite having some favourable fixtures - including a double - on the horizon.
Choosing between Liverpool and City assets may be the challenge this week given both have favourable fixtures, but the captaincy segment focuses primarily on these two sides.

S4E27: Gameweek 23 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW23 Preview.

Barely a couple of days since the last deadline so not loads of talking points, although some key further info on Mr. Erling Braut Haaland, with his long-awaited return to action.

The radar reflects the impact of the return of one the most expensive and highly owned FPL assets ever in Haaland. The lads discuss how desperate, or not, the need is to get him back in immediately. Another striker at the other end of the price spectrum sneaks his way on as does another Man City premium player and - unusually for the lads - a guy they've got all excited about despite the numbers. Pure vibezzzz.

What's that - can I hear the bees? With very few transfers taking place yet the lads wheel out the honey traps again and try to suggest a scenario they can see happening this gameweek.

They end, as ever, with captaincy and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E26: Gameweek 22 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge - it's been a while! - for the GW22 Preview.

Plenty of news to get listeners caught up on, including injury updates on some major FPL hitters, updates on future double and blank gamesweeks, plus a look ahead to a likely big BGW29. The lads also provide a small update on Afcon and the Asian Cup, with few FPL big hitters returning early.

The radar has a similar feel to GW21, but there is a notable addition, although the lads are unsure on his xMins in coming weeks.

Two swims against the tide in consecutive gameweeks is a real rarity this season, but the lads are back once again to oppose a player with over 200k transfers in at the time of recording. They also look ahead to this week's best captaincy picks.

And history is made when they finish, as ever, with another great round of Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E25: Gameweek 21 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the first gameweek of 2024, to preview this elongated GW21.

Plenty of news to get listeners caught up on, including injury updates on some major FPL hitters, the departure of others to Afcon and the Asian Cup, along with a look ahead to potential blank and double gameweeks on the horizon. As ever, the lads go through the permutations and what impact each could have on your team.

A slim but promising radar heads to the south coast for two mid-range picks, while the fringe has a familiar feel but includes a new Brazilian who may have found his shooting boots.

A rare swim against the tide this gameweek sees the lads refuse to get excited about the return to some degree of fitness for an FPL favourite, while captaincy - and the impact of having your captain feature in the second half of GW21 - is one of several points discussed.

They finish, as ever, with another great round of Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E24: Gameweek 20 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the final time in 2023, to Preview GW20.

Transfers few and far between with another quick turnaround so the lads opt for another shortened show, covering the essentials. Talking points include the last week to use wildcard plus Haaland news.

Some new and some remaining names on the radar, with one from last week pushing on up. A former FPL must-have comes back into the thinking after much-increased underlying numbers and with Haaland out, who from City could benefit?

No time for a tide of transfers to build so the lads move on to Captaincy - a last stand for Salah ahead of AFCON against a UCL rival? Or are there other better options?

S4E23: Gameweek 19 Preview 23/24

Ho Ho Ho! Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the final pod before Christmas - GW19, kicking off the day after the big man's been down the chimney.

In a shortened pod, and with injuries, rotation and suspensions afoot, the lads start by quickly getting you up to date on all FPL news.

The radar has a very similar feel to GW19, but a big name drops off, a hat-trick hero gets downgraded, and a new sneaky addition to the fringe might take advantage of some good upcoming fixtures.

No swimming against the tide this week, or a honey trap, so the lads move (and end) on Captaincy, assessing the risk of putting the armband on a City asset without hearing from Guardiola beforehand, especially with some other attractive options.

S4E22: Gameweek 18 Preview 23/24

Ho Ho Ho! Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the final GW before Christmas - GW18.

It's a blank GW for two teams but first the lads review the circumstances around an inadvertent BGW17, particularly unfortunate from an FPL POV from those who brough in Solanke. The lads also discuss festive rotation and the EFL Cup.

Stop what you're doing - there is a pick on the centre of the radar for the first time in what feels like forever, although he may have a familiar feel... There are also additions to the mid-range and the fringe, including two picks dubbed 'vibes'.

A festive honey trap could allow the lads to glaze their seasonal vegetables if they lure their opponent in, while there's focus on a standout captaincy option. And the little game they like to call Who The Heck is Stat?! ends with some festive drama.

S4E21: Gameweek 17 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview GW17.

Premium player chaos in the news this week with reports of a Haaland injury (or is there??) and the spectre of Son and Salah's departures for most of Jan, mixed in with the impending Wildcard deadline, all leaving managers with big dilemmas. The lads explain and consider the options.

City and Brentford blanking in GW18 heavily impacts fixture runs and so the radar hasn't vastly changed for the past few GWs. That said, the lads consider a move to THE CENTRE for a previously unlikely candidate, who might come into the thinking if no-Haaland is confirmed and a few more possible candidates who've crept their way onto the fringe.

The tides this week hugely influenced by blankers and suspensions so more honey traps are being laid out... will anyone ever get caught in one?!

For once, captaincy is a minefield with many options to consider even if Haaland ends up playing - but particularly so if not. The lads then finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck is Stat?!

S4E20: Gameweek 16 Preview 23/24

S4E20: Gameweek 16 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview this short-turnaround GW16.

Plenty of FPL news, particularly the injury to a high-owned Bryan Mbuemo and the continued benchings of high-owned Matty Cash, with a few other examples of rotation in GW15 too that may have left managers frustrated!

The radar has a similar feel to GW15, with the lads assessing why Solanke or Isak aren't quite hitting the centre, but there is some movement with a budget 'keeper being upgraded from the fringe to the mid-range, and a new exciting addition to the fringe. The lads also highlight and unusually tight defence if you need some defensive reinforcements.

After a bumper swimming against the tide last week, the lads return to trying catch each other in their honey traps, focusing on away wins and a league powerhouse up against a league minnow.

Just two standout captaincy options this week - and maybe only one, given the fixture - before they finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

S4E19: Gameweek 15 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview this midweek GW15.

With such a short turnaround from GW14, the lads assess the impact rotation could have on GW15, with some high-owned players picking up knocks/niggles, some replaced earlier than usual, and some benched in GW14. The lads also take a look at the big-name players one booking away from a ban.

The radar has the feel of Postman Pat's cat, with the Toon Army featuring heavily, including a budget 'keeper and a midfielder whose FPL ownership is rapidly increasing.

No swimming against the tide for several weeks, so the lads naturally return with not one, but two players to swim against bringing in to your team ahead of GW15 - and they're both defenders! Plenty of reliable assets have favourable fixtures, too, when weighing up who gets your captaincy, before they finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview GW14

A rarity for this season takes place with midweek Premier League games meaning 3 FPL GWs in 9 days. the lads highlight the issues this raises for you teams. It also starts the run in towards the congested Xmas fixture schedule, which has consequences for Wildcard. When added to rearranged games coz of City's Arabian adventures, it calls for some chip strategy consideration, and how to build your team towards it

Some outstanding underlying numbers, regained fitness and improved fixtures result in 3 new radar picks for the lads to consider.

Its getting real sticky out there with even more honey traps being laid out this week - again no tides to swim against. Many potential captaincy options with many good options playing at home - but can anyone challenge the usual contenders. S4E17: Gameweek 13 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return after the international break to preview GW13.

Plenty of flagged players for FPL managers to consider ahead of the GW13 deadline, so the lads remind all listeners to keep an eye on press conferences. A look ahead at the fixtures, too, before a busy Christmas schedule, sees some smaller EPL teams atop the ticker - would we see some emerging FPL assets?

Not on the radar - yet! A skinny radar features an if-fit West Ham midfielder on the mid-range, with a team mate on the fringe alongside a recent England debutant.

Honey traps again feature, with little to swim against, and the lads try to assess a pretty poor week for standout captaincy options. They finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview GW12.

As seems to be the case across the entire football landscape at the moment, VAR was a talking point for the lads this week, as well as the European midweek consequences for FPL.

Some cheap soon-to-be starters in one of the best defences in the league make their way onto the radar this week, with another cheap new starter on the fringe too. A positive turn of fixtures for a London team draws out some further options on, or just outside, the radar.

More reactionary Haaland action and big injuries means not much original to swim against again, so the lads whip out their honey traps once more. What do they believe might happen, that others perhaps wouldn't...?

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview GW11.

Very few talking points this week, but the lads have a quick chat about possible rotation in the Carabao Cup, especially given some Premier League heavyweights face off against each other.

Some injury news means guaranteed minutes for a new addition to the radar's mid-range, while the fringe also has some new, budget, defensive additions with high clean sheet potential over the coming weeks.

After a bumper swimming against the tide last week, there's nothing of interest this week, so the lads try to catch each other in goals-heavy honey traps.

There's also another genuine captaincy debate before they finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return to preview GW10.

the lads have a quick chat to start about Europe, and the potential to wildcard, but also spend some time reflecting on the passing of two giants of English football, Sir Bobby Charlton and Bill Kenwright.

The radar has a familiar feel to last week, with some minor additions and movement, including an upgrade for an in-form Ollie Watkins.

There's a bumper swimming against the tide where the lads swim against not one, but two players being heavily transferred in and out this week.

S4E13: Gameweek 9 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads return refreshed after the international break to preview GW9.

After a quick chat about Beckham (the documentary *and* the man), they turn their attention to wildcard strategy and why now may be tempting for many.

Their radar is given a refresh, with a few players remaining from GW8, but also plenty of new chat and discussion, including a very appealing under-priced defender and a number of forwards with decent underlying numbers.

They swim against a defender who's had several, perhaps unjustified, price rises, before a captaincy discussion concentrated around the two most expensive assets in the game. They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

S4E12: Gameweek 8 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our preview of Gameweek 8 - the last before an International break

A very similar looking radar to last week as the trends spotted then continue, but 2 midfielders and strikers who've been highly adored in these parts before are rearing their heads again too: one each for the radar and for the "anyone else" watchlist.

Someone call Winnie the Pooh as the lads are rolling out the Honey Traps again this week, with injuries and fixture swings dominating transfers and not leaving much to swim against. Can they swing low sweet chariot??

STOP THE PRESS... Captaincy is an actual conversation this Gameweek!! The lads of course discuss the main man Erling, but if ever there's a week to genuinely think about some other options... hear what the lads have to say. S4E11: Gameweek 7 Preview 23/24

S4E11: Gameweek 7 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for our preview of Gameweek 7.

Some potentially helpful rotation this week with the Carabao cup rather than Europe taking up the midweek games.

Many defenders remain on and join the radar this week with varying risks and opportunities which the lads discuss. Some top premium assets of FPL past are starting to catch the eye again too...

A swimming against the tide this week which seems to hugely go against popular opinion (and the data experts!), but the lads seem pretty set on going against it... spolier alert - it involves a Double Gameweeker

The lads discuss captaincy and vice captaincy - whilst realising they missed someone they'd eyed up for the radar, so do listen out! And they end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who the Heck is Stat?!

S4E10: Gameweek 6 Preview 23/24

S4E10: Gameweek 6 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! European football returns but the lads, as ever, are focusing on FPL in this, their preview of Gameweek 6.

European rotation of course if a concern at this time of the season, but with so many injuries mounting for the Manchester clubs, how much rotation will we see? The lads feel confident that De Zerbi's Brighton will more than make up for it.

No centre of the radar again this week, but a packed mid-range and fringe, featuring a player the lads *nearly* swam against last week and a defender - yes, defender - with the 3rd best non-penalty xG in the league!

Show me the honey, bebe! Nothing to swim against this time, so the lads get sticky, before finishing with captaincy, and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E9: Gameweek 5 Preview 23/24

S4E9: Gameweek 5 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads are back after the international break and the transfer window SLAMMING shut to preview Gamweek 5.

Our first FPL DGW of the season has been announced and it's a big one, when in GW7 two titans of FPL, Burnley and Luton, square off twice - how will we resist bringing in assets from those two? Perhaps they can replace some pre-international break injury worries? Or maybe you can Wild Card them in? The lads discuss the options.

A trim radar features no-one in the centre, but a new, possible out-of-position player for the mid-range, while the fringe includes a budget forward and a group of defenders with underlying numbers going unnoticed.

the lads swim against a defender who's started the season in rich goalscoring form, but without underlyings to back it up. They are also tempted to swim against a quality forward who may become a minutes risk...

The (vice) captaincy discussion centres around North London assets, with a small mention of a certain Man Utd forward... before they finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E8: Gameweek 4 Preview 23/24

S4E8: Gameweek 4 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The lads are back to preview the final Gameweek before the International Break (and the transfer window closing!).

Transfers - and potential transfers - dominate the news with last minute carnage occurring all over the league. What will the impact be on FPL? What's the best way to try and deal with all the upheaval?

The radar is interesting this week with 2 well-performing English MIDs causing much debate - the lads fall down firmly on the side of one over the other. Some moves in and out of the radar for others and an Anyone Else section which is growing by the minute, as transfers bring new possibilities into the foreground.

Nothing to swim against again this week, so the lads lay out more Honey Traps - after last week's successes. Captaincy yet again becomes vice-captaincy with many seemingly good options (if Erling Haaland weren't a thing). They finish, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E7: Gameweek 3 Preview 23/24

S4E7: Gameweek 3 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The season is now in full swing, and the lads turn their attention to GW3.

They start by running through the latest FPL news, with European midweek fixtures beginning for one team, and injuries and transfers aplenty impacting FPL assets.

They also have a quick look at the utility of using the Bench Boost chip in GW3, given a good set of fixtures for many assets.

On the radar, the centre is dominated by two team-mates with the best underlying numbers in the league, with the mid-range also dominated by some slightly more expensive team-mates.

Many players on the fringe remain there from last week, but with a special nod to Chelsea's attractive impending fixture run.

Nothing to swim against this week, so they try to catch each other in their honey traps, with goals and newly promoted teams the focus, before finishing with a vice-captaincy chat (yes, Haaland will be everyone's captain) and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E6: Gameweek 2 Preview 23/24

S4E6: Gameweek 2 Preview 23/24

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! As the dust settles on GW1, we go again as we look ahead to GW2.

The lads give a few of their takeaways after GW1, including some concern for Man Utd, and less concern about Aston Villa, despite their respective results.

O the radar, the lads look at an eye-catching defender in the centre, while KDB's injury presents some opportunities in the mid-range.

The Fringe features four players, including two exciting forwards and two midfielders who returned in GW1.

They swim against a player they both like, but with an atrocious fixture run, before debating Salah vs Haaland for the armband.

They finish, as always, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E5: Gameweek 1 Preview 23/24

We're back, baby! Welcome once again to the FPL Lounge for our flagship GW1 Preview episode - and how good does it feel for football and FPL to be back?!

The start of this season feels more difficult to navigate than usual, and with that, Andy & Chris start by discussing how new football rules relating to added time and bookings could affect FPL. They look at the 'template' and how playing safe early can benefit your team further down the line, as well as advising of a keen ear on opening week press conferences from Premier League managers.

The radar focuses on one of the league's better defences, with a high-owned player in the mid-range and some budget midfielders on the fringe.

They swim against a high-points scorer from last season being featured in over a third of active teams, before finishing with captaincy and the latest renewal of a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S4E4: FPL Lounge Long Weekend 23/24: Forwards

S4E4: FPL Lounge Long Weekend 23/24: Forwards

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! Join Andy & Chris for their series of season preview podcasts, the FPL Lounge Long Weekend. In this final of four episodes ahead of the 2023/24 season, they'll be looking at Forwards.

With only two 'premium' forwards in the game this year, how irresistible is Erling Haaland? Can managers survive without him? Is there a way to own both him and Kane? The lads try to answer all these questions.

There are only two mid-priced options from £7.0-8.5m that appeal to Andy & Chris, although they acknowledge that others could come to the fore if their minutes are more guaranteed. There's plenty of intrigue in the budget options, though, including a possible Brighton forward on penalties and Brentford's Ivan Toney replacement.

That's a wrap for the Long Weekend; next up is the GW1 Preview, due to be recorded Wednesday and with you by Thursday. Don't forget to follow the lads on twitter and instagram @FPL_Lounge.

S4E3: FPL Lounge Long Weekend 23/24: Midfielders

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! Join Andy & Chris for their series of season preview podcasts, the FPL Lounge Long Weekend. In this third episode of four ahead of the 2023/24 season, they'll be looking at Midfielders.

With only four 'premium' midfielders in the game this year, can managers survive without? Is Salah worth his price tag? Can Son rediscover his 2021/22 form? The lads try to answer all these questions.

There are a number of mid-priced options from £6.5-8.5m that could be worth consideration, although many of the big names feel like more of a 'wait and see' to Andy & Chris. There's a similar feel to the budget options, with a few £4,5m shouts potentially worth a gamble ahead of GW1.

The final Long Weekend episode will be released on Monday, ahead of the flagship GW1 Preview later this week. Don't forget to follow the lads on twitter and instagram @FPL_Lounge.

They spend the second half of the podcast looking at their least favourite FPL position, goalkeepers, analysing options for every budget and questioning their own 'keepers strategy of seasons gone by.

S3E42: Gameweek 38 Preview 22/23

S3E42: Gameweek 38 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the final preview pod of the season! It's the GW38 Preview.

They run through the permutations of GW38, with only a handful of teams with things to play for, primarily those locked in a relegation battle and those trying to claim England's final European spot. They look at some final day data from years gone by, concluding it's best to target goals and not target clean sheets!

No radar this week in its usual format; instead, the lads go fixture-by-fixture trying to unearth the gems that might secure your high rank or win your mini-league. Two minutes per fixture and two men never short of things to say...

The lads do their final honey trap of the season, before a fairly lengthy discussion on captaincy - will Andy finally be brave enough to go without his armband on Haaland? They finish, as ever, with another dead rubber game of Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E41: Gameweek 37 Preview 22/23

S3E41: Gameweek 37 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW37 Preview.

The lads are back with the penultimate GW preview of the season, and it's the final double of the season, with four teams playing twice in GW37.

They run through the permutations of GW37, with a handful of teams with nothing to play for, they ponder whether assets from these teams should be ignored. They also look at potential rotation, particularly among teams fighting on multiple fronts, like the Manchester clubs, or those who've had a fixture backlog, like Brighton.

A trim radar sees them focus on Andy's favourite team, with an asset in the centre and two more on the fringe, while they also highlight a few players with good underlying numbers but playing for bad sides with relegation a real possibility.

Swimming against the tide features a player who's hit a rich vein of form, but the lads doubt whether it can continue into the last few matches, while Captaincy features the age-old discussion about the temptation to veer away from Haaland. They finish, as ever, with another dead rubber game of Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E40: Gameweek 36 Preview 22/23

S3E40: Gameweek 36 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW36 Preview.

The lads are back again as the Gameweeks come in thick and fast - and this ones a doubler!

With only 3 GWs left and doubles this week and next, the radar features players form teams with extra fixtures. The biggest of debates this week is which NEW FWD to go for - the lads talk through the pros and cons of Isak vs Wilson. They go on to look at other BRI and NEW assets, plus anyone else catching their eye

Swimming against the tide features a player who's scored a few from the edge of the box recently and is one of the highest scoring players in the game - are the lads too bold in swimming against bringing him in? Captaincy takes into account City's intense 2 legs against R. Madrid which straddle this GW, plus the fact 2 teams are on doubles - do you go for the the old guard of Haaland/Salah or a doubler from NEW or BRI?

Although the title is done and dusted, anguish still persists for Chris as the lads end the show with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E39: Gameweek 35 Preview 22/23

S3E39: Gameweek 35 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW35 Preview.

The lads are back with their final 'normal' pod of the season, given there's just two double gameweeks and the final day to go. Despite being as the business end of the season, they discuss another Premier League managerial change, as Big Sam tries to firefight Leeds United away from safety. Will he be able to turn them around defensively enough to prevent an onslaught against the Champions Elect Man City at the weekend?

But it's City defensive assets that are on the centre of the radar, with the lads struggling to determine which offers best value, and which offers the best guarantee of minutes. They're similar confused on the mid-range when it comes to Newcastle forwards and the ever-increasing array of Brighton attacking assets that'd all have excellent FPL value - if minutes were guaranteed!

Nothing to swim against this week, so the lads try to catch each other in their honey trap, before discussing captaincy options and finishing, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E38: Gameweek 34 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW34 Preview.

The lads are back again as the Gameweeks come in thick and fast - and this ones a doubler!

The radar continues last week's theme of being influenced by those teams doubling. Liverpool, Brighton and City assets figure heavily and the lads go through the pros and cons of who to choose.

Swimming against the tide features a previous FPL Lounge player of the season who plenty seem to be getting rid of. He's pricey, so its understandable, but why should you consider keeping him? Captaincy has a familiar ring to it - City on a double... surely only one conclusion? And they end with a potentially season defining little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E37: Gameweek 33 Preview 22/23

S3E37: Gameweek 33 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW33 Preview.

A quick turnaround for a rare midweek Gameweek with all teams in action to start an interesting and fully settled schedule up until the end of the season.

The radar has many new faces who benefit from good run-ins including multiple double gameweeks. Liverpool and Brighton attackers are back in view, which might be expected, but what won't be is the defensive players who have come into form. Strikers and City's good run also feature.

A swimming against the tide in favour of a player one of the lads has always struggled with and who plays for a relegation contender - what??! That is the case though - listen to why the lads DON'T think you should be getting rid. Captaincy seems wide open this week and the lads consider the pros and cons of various options before ending with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E35: Gameweek 32 Preview 22/23

S3E35: Gameweek 32 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW32 Preview.

A blank gameweek for four teams due to the FA Cup semi finals leads the lads to inevitably talk about strategy, with many managers - and listeners - likely to use their Free Hit chip this week. But fear not, if you're on a different strategy!

The radar tries to look at players that can benefit managers on a Free Hit and just using free transfers to navigate this blank, with an eye on future doubles too. It inevitably, then, includes a few standout Liverpool assets, who are unlikely to need much introduction to FPL managers. The radar also runs the rule over an in-form striker for a struggling club, budget midfield assets at Fulham and a rejuvenated Crystal Palace, and a final mention of Free Hit specific players.

Little to swim against again this week so the lads show each other their honey (bebe), with strikers and goals the order of the day, before finishing with a captaincy conversation that belongs in 2021/22 and a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E34: Gameweek 31 Preview 22/23

S3E34: Gameweek 31 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW31 Preview.

A light talking points this week, with the lads discussing Rashford's injury - hold or sell? - and the European fixtures, plus a brief look ahead to the GW32 blank, and the potential for using the Free Hit chip.

The radar again lacks a player the lads feel strongly enough to put in the centre, but does include several players on the mid-range, including one upgrade from last weeks' fringe. It also includes a premium asset with good fixtures and good underlying numbers, but who is not quite passing the lad's eye test. There's also a mention for a budget forward with plenty of upside.

Little to swim against this week so the lads weave together their respective honey traps, which leads nicely into a captaincy discussion before finishing, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E34: Gameweek 30 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW30 Preview.

More manager sackings in the talking points - how will they affect your FPL team? That plus European rotation ahead also to consider.

The radar has a fair few FWDs on this week, including a no brainer in the centre, an in-form option with great stats too on the mid-range and a recently returned player on the fringe. Some other interesting looking City options are also weaved in.

The lads face the calmest ocean they've ever seen in swimming against the tide - what on earth are managers thinking transferring out this player?? Captaincy brings the perennial 'how many mins will Haaland get' quandary, but he's got some competition that makes that even harder this GW - the lads look through them. They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E33: Gameweek 29 Preview 22/23

Welcome back after the international break to the FPL Lounge for the GW29 Preview - a double gameweek for 12 teams.

The lads review the recent managerial changes in the Premier league, with Chris dropping a lovely Roy Hodgson-anecdote, before getting down to the real business of GW29 - all those doubles and how to play your chips!

A busy radar sees some additions with good fixtures now and into the future, with some hesitation places around a scheduled blank for GW32. The lads find something to swim against this week (or is it just an excuse to have a Harry Kane love-in?) before assessing the GWs captaincy options and being careful not to sleep in single GWers. They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!

S3E32: Gameweek 28 Preview 22/23

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge for the GW28 Preview - a blank gameweek for 6 teams.

The talking points dominated by the blank this week - free hit, wildcard, or can you muddle through without a chip?

The radar sees some previous fringe assets make their way forward - with one even making it all the way to the centre. Chelsea players get a look in plus a few punts to consider if you are on of those on Free Hit.

Again the blanks influencing the transfers in and out so no tides to swim against - bring out the honey bebe! The lads lay out some honey traps (FPL related things they think might happen). Many captaincy options this week with some of the regulars not playing and the lads take a look through a fair few. They end, as ever, with a little game they like to call Who The Heck Is Stat?!
