Episode #111: Marco Polo – Hip Hop Producer, New Album Out Now with Masta Ace “A Breukelen Story”
On Fresh is the Word, we like to deliver wisdom through great stories from the minds of bright creatives of pop culture. Through those stories, we like to dissect the journey of our guests and present actionable lessons and advice for our listeners no matter what career or avenue of artistry they pursue. This episode’s guest is Toronto-born, now New York-based hip-hop producer Marco Polo. That move from Toronto to New York is the basis of Marco Polo’s new collaborative album with hip-hop legend Masta Ace (who was one episode #100) titled A Breukelen Story, available now on all formats. Marco Polo has worked with a who’s who of hip-hop throughout his time in New York and during our chat, we talked about his upbringing in Toronto, making the move to New York, his parents support, his creative process, his hip-hop influences, lessons learned during his first few years in New York, working with Masta Ace, working with all the big-named artists he’s worked with, and much more. Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories to tell. Marco chose his long time friend and collaborator, Shylow.
