Episode 37 - Why are Men...
Boner culture. This week we spend some time chastising the folks  who use boner culture without a hint of irony, while also delving into  the Nintendo Direct, the eShop shutdown, and some truly bizarre quotes  from Platinum Games' recent interviews. Alongside that we spend some  time talking about Jason's time playing It Takes Two with his wife and  Steve delves into Trails of Fire, a new card game he's been playing. If  that sounds fun then strap in for another episode of Frosty Canucks. As always, if you'd like to ask questions or suggest topics please reach out to us. Thanks for listening and stay frosty! Episode 36 - The Great Video Game Conglomeration
Well...uh...didn't see that one coming. Not to be outdone by Microsoft, Sony dropped news last week that they'd acquired Bungie and had several more acquisitions on the way. As such, we took to talking about what this means in the wider scope of Sony's future efforts and speculate on their direction moving forward. After that we talk a bit about Legends: Arceus, Monster Hunter Rise, and Persona 5 Royal, though be wary of spoilerinos with that last one. Episode 34 - Breath of the Chungus: Souls Edition
You died. By some miracle, Steve played not one, but two different games he enjoyed. There's a lot of Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild talk, though not all of it's positive. We also took some time to bash NFTs (as you do) and briefly delve into PSVR2. As always, if you'd like to ask questions or suggest topics please reach out to us. Thanks for listening and stay frosty! Episode 31 - The Canuck Definitive Experience
What a week. This week we decided to tackle the dumpster fire that was the GTA  trilogy remaster and the disastrous launches of everyone's favourite annual military shooters. In that vein, Jason and Steve delve into if 60  dollar shooters are still viable and we briefly touch on The Game  Awards. As far as games go there's Ys VIII, Miles Morales, and Stardew Valley.  Oh, also Steve highjacked the podcast again to talk about Guilty Gear  Strive for another ten minutes. Episode 30 - Who the Fuck is Still Buying Skyrim?
Identify yourselves! WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE!? It's another flaming dump truck of an episode as Jason and Steve talk about Skyrim: the game that will not die and Marvel's Avengers. Unfortunately, the Avengers video game is about as exciting as watching paint dry, so Steve goes on a mountain of side tangents which Jason has conveniently shaved down into a hilarious bite sized chunk for your listening pleasure. Along the way we also talk about Monster Hunter Rise after playing the PC demo, Pokémon Emerald, and Hades. Nothing but quality content. Episode 29 - Back 4 More Canucks, Eh?
Not a week goes by where Nintendo doesn't screw up something internet related. After our previous episode we received a viewer question asking for further elaboration on our thoughts regarding China's latest gaming related laws. Only time will tell how correct our predictions end up being, but it was certainly an interesting topic to explore. That aside, we also briefly dip into the disaster that is the Nintendo Online Expansion pass before going into the games we've been playing which include Back 4 Blood, Dusk Diver, Lost Judgment, and, of course, Monster Hunter World. Though it may surprise you to know that Steve isn't the one who brought up Monster Hunter this time. As always, if you'd like to ask questions or suggest topics please reach out to us. Episode 28 - China's Judgment Call on Video Gaming Made Us Cry
Finally the China episode! As Steve said several episodes ago we've finally covered China's war on gaming as it pertains to their youth and what kind of long standing ramifications it may have for China being a growth market for much of the gaming industry. We also cover what makes rogue-likes good and moments in games that made us well up. Warning there is a boat load of spoilers for Valkyria Chronicles in that section, which we do call-out verbally so stay mindful of that if you want to play the game at some point. And what would the Frosty Canucks be if we didn't cover the games we've been playing? Well Steve spent almost all his gaming time playing Strive, but didn't want to bore everyone so we're a bit light this week with Jason carrying the load as we delve into Pokémon Unite, Lost Judgement, and The Surge 2. Episode 27 - A Nintendo Direct Adventure with Special Guest Ian from Adventure Rules
Smash players are the worst. Amirite? It's a Nintendo episode which we're contractually obligated to do (not really) because Nintendo held a big Direct in September. To help with our limited Nintendo exposure regular hosts Jason and Steve brought along Ian of Adventure Rules. We delve head first into all of the Direct goodness and dissect what we feel are the best and not best announcements shown. We also spend a bit of time chatting about Boyfriend Dungeon (with spoilers), Bloodstained, Pioneers of Olive Town, and Streets of Rogue. As always we close out with the games we've been playing which are chock full of spoilers. Be mindful of the timestamps if you'd like to avoid spoilers for Oxenfree or either BioShock game. There's a lot to unpack there so that takes the bulk of the episode before we transition over into the games we've been playing. DIS-A-POINTED! This week on Frosty Canucks we delve into our takeaways from the Sony State of Play and Pokémon Nintendo Direct (spoiler: they weren't positive). Episode 12 - Nintend'oh Direct and Double Dating in HuniePop
Space hookers. This week on Frosty Canucks we talk a ton about the recent Nintendo Direct which happened a day before recording (lucky). In addition, we also spent some time talking about Warner Brothers successfully patenting the Nemesis system and about which games we believe would still hold up today if they had never been released. There's also a lot of games talk as Jason's been plowing through his back catalog and Frosti has been enraptured by HuniePop 2. It's all good stuff we promise. If you have any questions or topics you'd like us to tackle please let us know on one of our social channels. Until next time, thanks for listening and stay frosty. Episode 11 - Riding Stonks to the Moon!
We riding stonks to the moon, gamers! This week on Frosty Canucks we cover Nintendo's success with the Switch by way of the recently announced lifetime sales, yet another nail in Staida's coffin, how stacked May is this year, and Thomas Mahler's outcry about shady shit within the game's industry. A not insignificant amount of time is also once again spent going over the games we've been playing so there's lots more Monster Hunter World and Yakuza Like A Dragon (Frosti swears this is the last episode for a while where he'll talk about either at such length). There's also something about stonks in there. As with every week, feel free to reach out to us via our social channels if you have a question or topic you'd like us to cover. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! This week on Frosty Canucks we take a dive into the recent EU ruling regarding Geo Blocking, which games shouldn't have sequels, and we also talk about the pros and cons (mostly cons) of shaking up an established formula in a beloved franchise. Also Frosti goes on a tirade about Monster Hunter.   No spoilerinos this week and apologies for last episode where we went on a massive Yakuza spoiler spree.   As with always let us know if you have any questions and thanks for listening and stay frosty. Cyberpunk may be cyberbunk, but there were a ton of other great games in 2020.   As mentioned on previous episodes, we took to talking about our games of the year. Unfortunately due to time constraints Frostilyte wasn't able to finish his, so consider what's here a preview of the full list which will be available shortly into January.   Still, we talk about a handful of great games as well as why we enjoyed playing them so much.  Timestamps and spoiler warnings below. Episode 7 - Attack on Nintendo: Cease and Desist
God damn it, Nintendo.   This week on Frosty Canucks we spend some time looking at Nintendo going full nuclear for a week and Cyberpunk 2077's bullshit launch. Along the way we also take time to answer two viewer questions, one pertaining to the viability of a music game renaissance and the other on the impact of power creep.   We also spend an extraordinarily long time talking about Nexomon: Extinction now that Frosti has finished playing it.   Thanks for listening and stay frosty. Episode 6 - The World Ends with the Game Awards
The world is ending! Not really, but after we talked about the World Ends With You a sequel was announced. Isn't that weird? And just ahead of Geoff Keighley's annual awards show we took a stab at guessing who we think the winners will be. We're inevitably going to be super wrong, but guessing while discussing the greater strokes of 2020 was a bit of a laugh. Also, we take a brief detour into what we've been playing (spoilers it's more Pokémon and Pokémon adjacent games). Thanks for listening and stay frosty. Or at least Frosti does.  This week on the Frosty Canucks we usher in the new generation and then spend a long time talking about how video game music impacts the play experience as well as our favourite soundtracks. We also spend an unnecessarily long time dismantling what we both consider to be the worst generation of Pokémon.  Watch-out for the spoilers we've marked below! Thanks for listening and stay frosty. Delays, Delays, Delays. Well...rather one delay. This week on the Frosty Canucks we chat about yet another Cyberpunk 2077 delay, the October Nintendo Direct, Pokémon, and Jason's ill-fated attempt to pre-order the PS5. Alongside that we had our first two viewer questions and ended up spending a fair amount of time discussing the future of Loot Boxes following the EU's increasing scrutiny of the maligned monetization method and what we think the closing console generation will be remembered for. We also talk about the games we've been playing including Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy X, Hades, and Borderlands 3.   Plus we have a brief jab at Microsoft for the name of their next generation consoles.   Skip to episode 3 if you cannot stand Jason's mic (I'm sorry) as that has been fixed.
