Episode 37 - Why are Men...

Boner culture.

This week we spend some time chastising the folks  who use boner culture without a hint of irony, while also delving into  the Nintendo Direct, the eShop shutdown, and some truly bizarre quotes  from Platinum Games' recent interviews. Alongside that we spend some  time talking about Jason's time playing It Takes Two with his wife and  Steve delves into Trails of Fire, a new card game he's been playing. If  that sounds fun then strap in for another episode of Frosty Canucks.

Episode 36 - The Great Video Game Conglomeration

Well...uh...didn't see that one coming.

Not to be outdone by Microsoft, Sony dropped news last week that they'd acquired Bungie and had several more acquisitions on the way. As such, we took to talking about what this means in the wider scope of Sony's future efforts and speculate on their direction moving forward. After that we talk a bit about Legends: Arceus, Monster Hunter Rise, and Persona 5 Royal, though be wary of spoilerinos with that last one.

Episode 31 - The Canuck Definitive Experience

What a week.

This week we decided to tackle the dumpster fire that was the GTA  trilogy remaster and the disastrous launches of everyone's favourite annual military shooters. In that vein, Jason and Steve delve into if 60  dollar shooters are still viable and we briefly touch on The Game  Awards.

As far as games go there's Ys VIII, Miles Morales, and Stardew Valley.  Oh, also Steve highjacked the podcast again to talk about Guilty Gear  Strive for another ten minutes.

Episode 30 - Who the Fuck is Still Buying Skyrim?

Identify yourselves! WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE!?

It's another flaming dump truck of an episode as Jason and Steve talk about Skyrim: the game that will not die and Marvel's Avengers. Unfortunately, the Avengers video game is about as exciting as watching paint dry, so Steve goes on a mountain of side tangents which Jason has conveniently shaved down into a hilarious bite sized chunk for your listening pleasure.

Along the way we also talk about Monster Hunter Rise after playing the PC demo, Pokémon Emerald, and Hades. Nothing but quality content.

Episode 29 - Back 4 More Canucks, Eh?

Not a week goes by where Nintendo doesn't screw up something internet related.

After our previous episode we received a viewer question asking for further elaboration on our thoughts regarding China's latest gaming related laws. Only time will tell how correct our predictions end up being, but it was certainly an interesting topic to explore. That aside, we also briefly dip into the disaster that is the Nintendo Online Expansion pass before going into the games we've been playing which include Back 4 Blood, Dusk Diver, Lost Judgment, and, of course, Monster Hunter World. Though it may surprise you to know that Steve isn't the one who brought up Monster Hunter this time.

Episode 28 - China's Judgment Call on Video Gaming Made Us Cry

Episode 28 - China's Judgment Call on Video Gaming Made Us Cry

Finally the China episode!

As Steve said several episodes ago we've finally covered China's war on gaming as it pertains to their youth and what kind of long standing ramifications it may have for China being a growth market for much of the gaming industry. We also cover what makes rogue-likes good and moments in games that made us well up. Warning there is a boat load of spoilers for Valkyria Chronicles in that section, which we do call-out verbally so stay mindful of that if you want to play the game at some point.

And what would the Frosty Canucks be if we didn't cover the games we've been playing? Well Steve spent almost all his gaming time playing Strive, but didn't want to bore everyone so we're a bit light this week with Jason carrying the load as we delve into Pokémon Unite, Lost Judgement, and The Surge 2.

Episode 27 - A Nintendo Direct Adventure with Special Guest Ian from Adventure Rules

Smash players are the worst. Amirite?

It's a Nintendo episode which we're contractually obligated to do (not really) because Nintendo held a big Direct in September. To help with our limited Nintendo exposure regular hosts Jason and Steve brought along Ian of Adventure Rules. We delve head first into all of the Direct goodness and dissect what we feel are the best and not best announcements shown. We also spend a bit of time chatting about Boyfriend Dungeon (with spoilers), Bloodstained, Pioneers of Olive Town, and Streets of Rogue.

Big shout-out to Ian for hopping on the mics this week with us. You can find his stuff here:

In addition, there is talk of Ubisoft pivoting into free-to-play games and we take a deep dive into why licensed games are usually terrible.

The government total sucks!

This episode we've had no short supply of interesting topics to go through be it the launch woes of Outriders, Epic Games buying their market share, and Sony's decision to pivot into focusing on their blockbuster titles. Along the way we also talk about how game systems help to create stories in games that are otherwise not known for their story telling potential and delve into the games we've been playing. As a warning there are a fair few Firewatch spoilers this week, but otherwise topics of Disgaea, Ori, and Utawarerumono are abound among others.

This week on Frosty Canucks we delve into our takeaways from the Sony State of Play and Pokémon Nintendo Direct (spoiler: they weren't positive). We also discuss the recent death of Anthem and how we feel about shouting out smaller developers and their games.

Frosti also lied and spent time talking about Monster Hunter again.

Space hookers.

This week on Frosty Canucks we talk a ton about the recent Nintendo Direct which happened a day before recording (lucky). In addition, we also spent some time talking about Warner Brothers successfully patenting the Nemesis system and about which games we believe would still hold up today if they had never been released.

There's also a lot of games talk as Jason's been plowing through his back catalog and Frosti has been enraptured by HuniePop 2. It's all good stuff we promise.

We riding stonks to the moon, gamers!

This week on Frosty Canucks we cover Nintendo's success with the Switch by way of the recently announced lifetime sales, yet another nail in Staida's coffin, how stacked May is this year, and Thomas Mahler's outcry about shady shit within the game's industry. A not insignificant amount of time is also once again spent going over the games we've been playing so there's lots more Monster Hunter World and Yakuza Like A Dragon (Frosti swears this is the last episode for a while where he'll talk about either at such length). There's also something about stonks in there.

The world is ending!

Not really, but after we talked about the World Ends With You a sequel was announced. Isn't that weird?

And just ahead of Geoff Keighley's annual awards show we took a stab at guessing who we think the winners will be. We're inevitably going to be super wrong, but guessing while discussing the greater strokes of 2020 was a bit of a laugh. Also, we take a brief detour into what we've been playing (spoilers it's more Pokémon and Pokémon adjacent games).

Alongside that we had our first two viewer questions and ended up spending a fair amount of time discussing the future of Loot Boxes following the EU's increasing scrutiny of the maligned monetization method and what we think the closing console generation will be remembered for.
